It’s a breeding male channel cat. Breeding males get dark like that and are often caught up in the shallows when breeding. Also flatheads don’t have a sharply forked tail.
Lake Cumberland is beautiful. Fished there several times... fished Dale Hollow every week for about 12 years. This was back in the 60's and 70's. Beautiful lakes and a beautiful time in my life. Nice fish you caught there.. Looks like you had a good trip. Thanks for sharing.
John, I'm a principal of a local high school in the Lake Cumberland (Somerset) area. Love your channel and true creek fishing. Be glad to take you to some good creeks anytime you're in the area.
We caught a 52 inch gar on a fluke of all things. They just don't care what you throw at them sometimes and just go for it . Caught it in fishing creek beyond the parkway bridge. The water was still down because of construction at the dam. Bank fishing was awesome back then.

Looks like that Gar gave ya a toothy, bloody kiss! That, admittedly, was unexpected, seeing you catch that Gar in the first place, but hey, life itself can be chocked full of surprises. I'd suggest that you keep a pair of very thick worker's gloves in your gear, just in case you run into another one of those bad boys ever again. If it's warm enough for fishing, go fishing-Even if it is raining. Don't be out in the open water if there's a thunderstorm going on, though. I fished Cumberland in the spring of 92 out of the State Park marina the weather didn't exactly cooperate but I did manage an 8 lb striper the State Park is gorgeous but you have to be careful in the campground at night the timber rattlers are large and numerous, I wish that I had the time to go down to Dale Hollow, ( only 20 minutes away from the Wolf Creek Dam) on the same road, but I had a commitment elsewhere. One guy fishing for bluegill off of his houseboat caught a 40 lb striper!

I wish I have a kayak like one of those. We have rivers and spots here you just can’t fish here without a kayak. One more is I live near a beach and I really want to fish deep sea. Man! Fishing is so exciting!
When you see them striper follow your lure, throw something that works the top or middle of the water column, like a topwater, jerkbait, or swimbait. Work it quickly and erraticly. Jerkbait is my go to for hybrids and striper here on the etowah river.

Exactly especially when it rains the fish are expecting bugs and other critters to get washed into the water at the tree lines. Not to mention the trees that have fallen under the water are an excellent habitat for fish .
@@CreekFishingAdventures When you're catfishin on the shore it's sometimes near impossible to pull them outta their holes , rocks whatever . If you're on the water it's a much better angle to work from .

Many think the spot came into existence when the Kentucky bass were introduced in Florida, hence the name Florida bass.
@Tim and Vic 1989 Look at the patterning down the lateral line and the structure of the jaw. Spotted bass tend to have a more defined contrast in the darker coloration of the midsection compared to the dorsal and pectoral regions where largemouth's coloration tends to be brighter in the midsection and with wider banding throughout the body. Also, notice the facial structure when lipping the animal. Largemouth gets it's common name for a reason.
