    This was the first car I bought with my own money years ago. I paid 800 bucks for almost the exact same car, manual and everything. Power steering leaked, clutch was going and it had no AC but it never left me stranded. I put maybe 40k miles on it before it blew up. I remember tearing up on my drive home. A year of only having a bicycle and then having freedom again will do that.

    I just bought a 2005 Honda CRV with the 5 speed manual transmission last summer, and overtime I’ve learned that finding one of these cars with a stick is on the same endangered species list as white elephants, Bengal tigers, and rhinos. It’s a one owner car that has been meticulously maintained since it was purchased brand new back in 2005 clean title with no accidents and best of all no rust. Something that is extremely rare to find in one of these cars that spent its entire life in southern New England. I love it!

      @mds2465 9 месяцев назад

      @@highmileagehopes9860 Thank you! Yeah, it really is a great car. Unfortunately, after the second generation they stopped making CR-Vs available with a manual transmission here in the states. However, they do sell them overseas for newer models, and I really wish they had them here as well because I would totally buy one. The car currently has just over 211,000 miles on it and I bought it last July with just over 200,000 miles. Unlike my previous two 2014 CR-Vs this one burns no oil whatsoever and the build quality is really there. I got it for $4500 which honestly was a really good deal compared to some other ones that I looked at which were in way worse shape than this one is. Yes I’ve had to put a lot of money into it making it a reliable daily driver but in my opinion, it’s money well spent because at the end of the day I have a great car that’s going to last a very long time! There’s still more things that require attention on the car, but it’s nothing that keeps it off the road for now so when the funds allow, I plan to complete the rest of the remaining work and make this vehicle 100% again. Hopefully soon.

    Great find! Unfortunately, 5th gear failing is a known issue on these 3rd gen Accords, especially if the fluid gets low. There's an oiling mod to help prevent that from happening. You can easily replace 5th gear without removing the transmission, it's under the side cover in a separate compartment. The only problem with that method is the metal shavings that may still be in there. If you get a used transmission, I'd suggest inspecting 5th gear before you install it. Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing the progress!

    That combination of light weight, double wishbone suspension, and tall sidewalls (13" tires), is just magic. Really tall 5th gear for the engine output, but you could get amazing fuel mileage.

    Lovely car! Awesome popup headlights!
    Shame someone's tore up 5th gear like that
    This isn't an auto trans, changing the fluid isn't going to do anything, the teeth are all stripped off the 5th gear ring :(
    Sounds like someone who wasn't aware of a manual transmission tried pushing it into 5th gear while stopped with the clutch up and the engine running, and just kept pushing it until it went in, tearing all the teeth off
    Honestly I'd be happy enough just using it as a 4 speed haha
    I had a 1982 Honda Ballade 1.3L, its 5th gear was doing 3000rpm at 60mph; from the looks of it in the video, this Accord is doing 3000rpm at 65mph in 4th!
    While that's not ideal, that's really not that bad, especially for a revvy Honda E series (assuming that's what it is by the looks) you'll just be missing out on fuel economy and a bit of engine longevity (as if it'll matter with a indestructible Honda engine like this)
    Looking at the video the clutch seemed fine, it wasn't slipping or chattering on engagement, just I assume a high biting point from your description? If these are anything like the MK1 Honda Ballade, they have a cable clutch which can be adjusted by turning a little plastic light blue adjuster on the end of the clutch cable where it goes into the gearbox, turning that in some turns will help bring the bite point back down to lower in the pedals travel
    So surprised by american market models of cars, this thing is absolutely packed with luxury features we'd never even dream of in the 1980s; but at the same time this twin carb engine seems to be plauged with so many vacuum hoses and lines running all over the place, I assume for american emission stuff(?). The way it idles high at 2K when cold is impressive but scary witchcraft I wouldn't want to deal with when it all goes wrong lol
    Either way this is an awesome buy and I'm really rather jealous, hope it works out well for you!

Definitely do the TIming belt, and related parts, they could look OK.. but age may be an issue, Regarding the transmission, maybe drain the fluid, check for metallic junk.. refill it.. Where i am we use km's, it had 400kms the starter moter died, we fixed that, then some hooligans broke into it and ripped up the mint interior stole the radio and defaced the car, we dont know why or who. They did not even attempt to steal the car, just broke in and ripped it all up. They went into it with big knifes and tore the interior seats up front and back.

    That era of Honda/Acura manual transmissions would lose 5th gear if you put 90wt instead of 20w/50 by mistake. The 5th gear train lived under a tin cover added to the transmission case and too heavy lubricant wouldn’t get out to that cavity. In most cases you could pop the tin cover off, replace the synchro train and drain/fill the transmission with correct fluid. If you decide to do the used assembly swap be sure and look under that tin cover for obvious carnage before expending all that effort.

    Those kind of AT there is only 1 remedy, change oil, change oil, change oil. Once bought a Civic, JDM built, AT oil never replaced, it shifted like a clunker, I replaced the oil many time, every time you change it you cannot get everything out but only like 80%. After many miles driving and changing the oil like every 1000 miles, the AT finally was smooth as butter, well as good as those old 3 / 4 speed AT can get. Use only genuine Honda AT oil or the replacement by some oil companies ( I used Ravenol I think which is 1/3 the price). Not ATF.
