We were original owners of a 1986 Accord. The car was built to last. So sad so many were thrown away over simple issues.
Those rubber trim pieces around the rear wheel arches alone killed off a lot of car. 😢

I must admit, this car seems to be in very good shape for its age. I realize you still have some work that you'd like to do on it, but I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy seeing new videos of this particular model, especially since my late grandparents had a light blue 1989 Honda Accord LX sedan that they had for over 20 years. It wasn't used very much, though, but the interior and exterior were in terrific shape. It was given to one of my cousins before one of the tires wrapped around one of the axles, among other issues. That Accord had just over 137,000 miles before it was sold to a mechanic a few years ago. I think it's still alive and well somewhere, but I don't know. I miss that car so much.

I agree, the 3rd and 4th gen Accords were definitely a high point for Honda. As ahead of their time as they were even being compared to the German brands, I can't help but wonder what Honda and the other Japanese manufacturers would have built since then if not for their big recession in the 90's.

I had a 87 LX in this dark metalic blue, it was a good car, should have replaced the front rotors instead of having them machined, A/C was always nice and cold, loved the dash computer when it told you you had a burnt out tail light, trunk was nice and big, I got rust on the rear wheel wells a lot, I think i paid $600 in 93 to have them both fixed, it looked really good for about three years then starting rusting again

I was 9 when my parents bought an ‘89 5 spd. DX with manual windows (we added A/C and cruise).
Two things, first, my mom was very cautious and the times our’s was going 75 mph in hot weather could probably be counted on my hands. The car just may not have been made to go that fast. As memory serves, in 1989, the National speed limit was still 55 mph.
Second, our headlight motors broke once before 2004 (we sold it around then, at about 15 years old) so since you want to keep it nice my advise is to keep the headlights up as much as possible.
Otherwise, our car was a tank and I was angry when Dad sold it and didn’t offer it to me first.

Unlike large North American cars. The average UK car was small noisy and basic. I remember my parents buying this car although not much bigger than most other UK cars it was quiet well equipped. Apart from expensive Mercs and BMWs this car showed Europe could be driven across in cool and comfort. Every button was exactly where it should be. It was the 1st car that drove exactly the same at 150k as it did at 50k. The only problem is it would be horrendous in a accident compared to modern cars.

I noticed a lot depends on these cars. Location is a big part. In tampa I almost bought one with 190k miles and carbureted for $3200. This one I talked down to $3k but I took a risk because it sat for a long time. Luckily this one has been very reliable. I would say in good condition lxi automatic under $5k is good and manual ones can go way up depending on condition.
