I built a 670 to 700 making 150hp. I put it in a stretched blaster. In 2019 I was doing high 9's at 156 in 1320. I know this monster has some nuts and the guy riding needs even bigger.
In the late 90s early 00s I worked on a team that ran a V-max 4 that started in Pro stock and ended up in open. I got to ride it a few times when I was 17-19 years old. I never raced it, and I never ran it in full Open trim, but it was crazy to be around. We also ran a Polaris 650 triple, a Phazer 2 and an Exciter 2. My buddy worked on a competitors team that ran a 1000cc thundercat dynoed at 320+ but the sound that the 4 makes, especially with the firing order changed for drag, is nuts... like ripping fabric.
Also, one of the Artic Cats we ran against "Triple Trouble" was a 600 with a extra cylinder welded on (so a 900cc) and it ran really good... tho I wouldn't have admitted it at the time 😂Also looked cooler than the Yamahas

The front suspension of the Yamaha made it unique(ish), and I do like them now looking back at those vintage skis... but I personally think the Cat had the best look with their suspension, and Polaris with the 1995 XCR just as good. That being said, I think two of my favorite skis of all time are the 1981 Yamaha SRX 440 and the 1977 Ski-Doo RV 440
Back in the 90’s Anoka Ramsey Sport Center in Anoka, MN there mechanics put together several 4 cylinder motors made of 2 700cc Arctic Cat Wildcat motors. Remember seeing them for sale at the shop they were about $5000 if I remember right.
Back in late 90's i snowboarded with a gentleman named norm elkholm... he had a v-max 4 fully modded for hill climbing... (chassis, engine, race gas and pretty much everything else).... got to rip it up the mountain a few times and i can tell you that thing was a crazy insane beast... POINT, AIM, AND HANG THE HELL ON.... Cant imagine what that nut case machine would be like to pull the trigger on. If you guys need a test dummy for a full throttle run i would be happy to volunteer.... LOL...
There is quite a few 4 cyl. motors out there , lots of 521's, 617's , 670's and 800's put together , Barry Pool made 1 way back in the mid to late 80's , it was 2 521's put together then lots more came after that . There alot more common than you think

Buddy of mine had ZR900. At the end of season one he dropped the 1,010 kit into it. He eventually graduated to a snopro F7 like I had. And eventually a crossfire. But one day he got this ridiculous idea to motor swap the 1,010 motor into the crossfire cuz the chassis was obviously superior to that old ass zr chassis. It was pretty ridiculous after adding some better handling to it. He eventually sold it to some guy who was very very insistent and practically gave him enough cash to buy two new machines.
More out there than you think. I had two at the same time. Plate the cases and they will stay together up to 9100 rpm. 320 hp without even trying. Under 130 pounds. 50 mm carbs are better. Reliable and parts are everywhere.

I just happen to have one as well... itd be the one you heard about.... if you need someone to ride it. Let me know. We kept snapping cranks. Needs a billet crank. Ours turned about 10500 RPM. AND our crankcases were welded together and the crank was made from 3 cranks pressed together, then pinned, then welded.
Old boss back in 90s in Southern AB built same, but sandcast a monoblock as I recall. Welded cranks. Pavement dragster. Remember one of our wrenches/mechanics from shop ran it at Race City? and couldn't pull a wrench for a week because his fingers wouldn't unclaw and move after the weekend. I just did this with two 340’s and an adapter I 3D printed just to see if I could make it work now I’m going to get a better steel adapter made so I’m not relying on plastic then I’m gonna put it in a 1988 Indy 500

Oh man I love it! Sounds so good. However, I'm thinkin' one of the reasons it's hard to hold on to is the seat - a flotation device from a canoe (slippery nogga-hide no less). Needs an ace pusher attachment! Awesome machine...
Back in the day there were multiple versions like that built . So there are more than 3 . I’m a Canadian . My ex boss had one exactly like that 1340cc . When unlimited open drag class was avail . When ISR . Limited motors to 1000cc . Plus 10 percent overbore . You could build a 1050 . 2 snow pro 440 making a 880 was popular. I no drove one . Competitive for a guy . The larger engine mods are actually not that wild a ride . Yes there fast . But can only put so much power to the track especially early in a race . And there mandated to be heavier. A small bore . Light mod like a 500 or a 600 turning more rpm at the starting line in a lighter frame is actually more of a handful to drive . The big ones are like a super fast couch 🛋.

This beast is different, and I wonder why. I guess the engines have 180 degrees cranks, but are their cranks put exactly 90 deg. from each other in the adaptor, or is it some other number? -I.e. is it an "odd fire engine" all together?

Also my dad had a Twin Engine mod pulling tractor I have 2 questions: 1. How are the #1 cylinders setup, both at TDC or 180 degrees out too make it act like a 4 cylinder? 2. There are usually 3 ways of tying the Engines together, straight collar, 2 piece collar with bolts, and 2 piece collar tied with chain. Which whay was used?

Shop I worked in raced a Vmax 800 in grass drags with a Union Bay engine. Improved stock, dyno'd just over 200 hp.
I used to have a 93 PSI trail piped 750 Vmax4 that was in the vicinity of 165 h.p that sled was alot of fun on the lake.

There was a guy in Perth Ontario Canada named Steve Payne that built 3 and 4 cylinder Rotax engines in the middle 90's.

They just bolted the cranks together with a coupler. There is no need to time them. They run independently.
There is quite a few 4 cyl. motors out there , lots of 521's, 617's , 670's and 800's put together , Barry Pool made 1 way back in the mid to late 80's , it was 2 521's put together then lots more came after that . There alot more common than you think

I have a wall of 583s, 617s, 670s and 670ho's (I run them in old honda buggies) never owned a sled , but would buy that in a heartbeat

Yamaha Vmax-4 was the most refined and as far as I'm aware of the only mass produced 4 cylinder 2 stroke sled. I'd like to see a built one of them.
One was turboed and made over 560hpfrom about 900cc big bore and 332 ft-lbs torque.
