Seriously lol. Feels like yesterday I thought 200 was expensive and was scoffing at the fact that horophiles would hardly consider anything under 1000.......now now I've spent 4200 (this seamaster), 3200, 2400, and a couple sub-500 to beat up lmao. Lord help me if I start being able to afford the 15-20k+ hahahaha
The escape valve is truly there for character and to remind the user that it's a tool watch. You don't even know it's there when its on. It adds a unique touch that makes it its own thing. Lastly size and weight is all about the times. I love a larger heavier watch because I know that I've got something that solid and instills confidence. I think the 1mm increase in thickness is to accommodate the display case back. The 1mm increase in diameter is to fit the caliber 8800 movement. While I would have liked the dimensions of the previous version I also feel like in both cases it was worth the trade off (for me). Omega is currently unable to offer this watch with these specifications in a substantially smaller package. It would require something along the lines of what Tudor has done with their in-house movement. Redesigning it to be smaller to address the common complaint of their watches being too thick. Omega has doubled down on their co-axial movement implementing it across their range of watches. They have slimmed down movements in the past and they could be working on something similar now. Implementation of it in their watches could however still be years down the line. 42mm still looks good on a modern dive watch in my opinion. Especially for those with larger wrists. But 40-41mm would have been perfect and would allow those with
I have the old (Brosnan era) wave dial version - actually put it on because this review inspired me. Big fan of the old version, and this new one is certainly beautiful, but you've nailed it with your comment about the wearability: one of the great things about the old SMP is how thin it is for a dive watch. It makes it wearable with almost anything. I've even worn it with a tux, because it just disappears under a shirt cuff. Not recommended, especially because a blue watch with a tux is a screaming no-no, but I was going out of my way to try and look like James Bond on that occasion. Tbh I think the current gen Rolex Sub suffers from some of the same issues with thickness. If you want a more wearable dive-style Rolex you're probably better off with the Yachtmaster, especially now they have some variants that have dialled down the 80s to a more socially acceptable level of gauche, but then you're into an even more ridiculous price point. Still, as others have said, at least with Rolex they either maintain or appreciate in value. Still, this is about the Seamaster Pro and, if you can deal with the increase in thickness - and if you can get it for less than retail to avoid the inevitable bath, or you're planning to keep it forever - it's an otherwise gorgeous watch and a great timepiece. (I think the accuracy is one area where Omega have Rolex whupped.)
arcade.ly I have had the watch for a month. 6.75 inch wrist: the watch just nestles down into my wrist; no catching on a dress cuff whatsoever. Although the notional diameter is larger than the previous model, with the new end link design, the lug to lug is smaller. Supremely comfortable, it really does wear a lot smaller than the dimensions would suggest. As for weight, I don’t notice any issue, although I like to wear watches tight on the wrist; hate a loose bracelet.
The only thing I don't understand is the helium escape valve. Ok, include it if you really want to but at least make it flush with the side of the watch.

I am saying it again, you should really try out the Oris Aquis in Titanium or the 39.5mm version in steel.

It's an amazing value when you look at how much a submariner is. I was told there's a price increase coming for Omega may 1st 2019 and the watch will still be an amazing value.
@Daytona 6263 I'd still say product B is a better value it was 4850 back then now 5200 and I think you'd have a hard time finding a good one used for 3k. I bought a white dial used in January for 3500 and sold it for 3800 in April. Product A is a better investment sure so if your buying a watch as an investment then your better off going with product A but if you want a dive watch that is better than product A in a lot of ways and costs 1/3 the price product B is better value. The Rolex bubble could burst and the 15k watch you buy today could be worth 10k again in a few years. The price increases the past few years have been unprecedented and I dont see how it can continue forever.
@Daytona 6263 it's pretty much impossible to buy one at retail though and your not losing 9k. I bought my seamaster for 4850 from the omega boutique with the rubber strap included for free. If I sold the strap and watch with bracelet separately I wouldn't be losing much. Value is what your getting for your money the day you buy it not the fact that watch A happened to go way up in value after the fact.
@Daytona 6263 oh I gotcha. Yeah its crazy whats been going on with rolex. I bought a Rolex explorer 2 from 1994 back in 2017 for 4k and I sold it last February for 5500 then I got a offer from bobs watches a few months ago for 8500 if I still had it because I wanted to see what they would buy it for last year before I sold it myself. The whole thing is pretty annoying and has turned me off of the brand. Maybe once this madness ends (if it ends) I'll buy another one but right now I'm happy with the Omegas I have.
Nick the case got bigger because of the size of the movement, the old Seamaster used the 2500 caliber which is a highly modified ETA 2892 with co-axial escapement. the 2892 is a rather small 21 jewel movement that is used in a lot of dress watches that need thin cases to fit under cuff of dress shirt well. The Globemaster is actually 39mm case with 8900 caliber but is not rated to 300m and does not have a uni-directional bezel.
2 years later you are still influencing people. I just bought this watch yesterday, picking it over the Pelagos LHD. Thanks for your review. I made the right choice.
Seems like this is getting a lot of people to plunge into the luxury realm. It sure got me to pony up the money for a piece of this level. I have the black dial as well. Almost hasn’t left my wrist since I bought it. I think you’re absolutely right about it possibly dipping into the submariner market. I’m a big guy so size is perfect for me. Just wish it was a tad lighter. We’ll see what owners can get the rubber strap for come this summer. I really don’t want to spend $300 for it.
The strap makes it more top heavy. I’ve dropped one recently on its crystal. It did not crack or shatter and the rate is still good. The strap is beautiful and flimsy at the same time.
@@n0cturn2l i got around 22% off from an authorized dealer on sussex st in sydney. just bought a chronograph seamaster only last week. it's very gorgeous timepiece.
A great review as always, but coukd you do the weight in grams as well as ounces? You use metric for everything else. After this review I might add this to my collection to join my Speedmaster Professional.
The lugs flair toward the strap. From this widest point where they meet the strap the lug to lug is 49mm and change, and close to the 50mm you sight. With a 6.75" wrist I was concerned the watch would be too large for me. It isn't. I love the way it looks on my wrist.
What type of flashlight did you use to get the lume charged? I have the blue model and my lume is soft as well as the pip on the bezel is blue instead of green and soft lume as well
At time 2:40, Nick states the accuracy of time at some minus 2 seconds value. My issue is that the stated accuracy by Omega is 0 to +5 seconds, so if it's minus, then this new watch is out of spec and needs to go back to the factory. Also the movement is the 8800 as stated but Omega has a newer 8900 movement on the Aqua Terra line which gives the independent hour hand adjustment so why Omega keep this 8800 on the diver. I gad this watch and hated it. It's very thick, top heavy, and was not accurate. Enjoy your Omega. Let's talk about the Oceanus and what your going to do with the extra $4,000!?
I think 🤔 it’s lovely 😊, only advantage the planet ocean has is the metal numbers on the bezel, as opposed to the enamel on the 300m . Does anyone know the pros and cons of each
The iconic Seamaster 300M Ref 2531.80.00 first produced in 1996, Omega Caliber 1120, worn by Pierce Bronson in 3/4 of his James Bond movies, was my first Luxury watch purchase and still my favorite. What a Classic! BTW Bronson first movie, 1995 Golden Eye, actually featured the Quartz version of that famous “Bond Watch” Seamaster 😱 The automatic version was not produced until 1996
If they offered this watch with a non-coaxial movement, I'd get it in a heartbeat. I'd prefer something a little closer to 39mm but I can definitely live with that, I can't live with the coaxial movement.
C911able I’m just not a fan of adding complexity to a movement without significant gain. People say it reduces service need, but service need varies widely with some of the cheapest movements running for decades without service. People say that it increases accuracy, but Rolex guarantees their movements to nearly identical specs. So I’d rather own a simpler movement that is easier to get serviced and isn’t as parts controlled like a Rolex or ETA
Yankee Rider I see, that is a fair point to make. I do think they add something more than just complexity, such as reduced anachronism and higher consistency in timekeeping regardless of orientation. The arguably greatest watchmaker of our time, George Daniels, thought co axial escapements have something going for it, as well. Also, the whole point and charm of a mechanical watch is to do something that is hard, like accurate timekeeping using just springs and gears, because it is very hard. It’s gearporn. If you want to simplify as much as possible, then a quartz movement would be perfect. Good timekeeping, no real service needed except for a battery change every 5 years. That’s my opinion though.
C911able and I do have/have had a lot of quartz watches. While I appreciate that a watchmaking visionary liked the idea, they’re not usually considering the practicalities of complexity, greatest watchmaker types are usually making movements I find useless as anything besides art. They improve accuracy but not past what Rolex is currently doing in terms of practical overall application, and I’m mostly just interested in movements as much as they are usable and cheaply serviceable in the real world where I jackhammer, work on cars, etc with my watch on. Simple durability. And I’ve long ago learned to basically flush anything omega (and Rolex) states as truth, which leaves very little independent praise of coaxial movements besides the inventor, who’s obviously biased
If they made this in a 40mm or smaller size I'd buy it immediately. I know the older ones were in 36mm and 40mm, but I need that display back and dial in my life.
Clasp is a little think, but you don't really notice it day-to-day. Worth it for the tool-less ratchet style micro adjustment that's built into the clasp, Rolex Glide Lock style. Great review though, I love mine, and I'm sure you'll love yours even more as time passes.
I've just bought the blue faced version of this great watch however if I was to be really picky Nick I just don't understand why Omega have just stuck the Omega sign onto the face where the previous older model has all raised letters on the dial and looks a hell of a lot more professional than my new version in my eyes. Great review by the way loved the video however just a bit confused with your remarks over value /price do you think it's good value or not?!
I owned the 2017 model and loved the applied Omega marquise against the glass-like dial. I now own the new version and I don't miss it. The new dial is much more dimensional with the engraved wave pattern and the printed texted is clean and sporty. Bottom line is the new dial doesn't need the added dimensionality that the old dial did. In my opinion, that is. I think it would be too much.
Hey Nick, I enjoy your knife and watch videos I spend a lot of money because of it 😆. What do you think about jomashop I’ve never bought a watch their and I’m between buying a Tudor bb58 or the new Omega sea master and saving around $500 is tempting . What’s the catch ?
I'm lucky enough to own this exact same model and it is nice to see your take on it. I'm not an expert but isn't the added thickness necessary to accommodate the new movement and display caseback?
Maybe. But this is one of those cases where I would argue that the better approach is to work on fixing that with thinner movements, rather than letting the watches continue to balloon. And also, remember that the Seamaster 300 (not this one, the other one) is only 12mm and uses a different movement still.
Thanks for the wonderful review Nick. I am looking for a diver companion to my Omega Speedmaster Pro as it is only 50 meters water resistant and have been strongly considering the Rolex Steel Submariner but due to supply and pricing the Seamaster may be the better choice.
The Monta is thinner, more legible, and lighter than this, with a non-in-house movement, and was less than half the price. It's threatened, but has a lot on its side. We'll see!
Man.. I think I'm 95% sold on this exact Omega. Just have sell my PAM 380. The only thing that's holding me back is wanting to see the white one with black bezel. But thinking the black one will be cheaper on the second hand market.
thx for great review!👍 Can you give me some help/advice on titanium water resistant 200m reliable time accurate omega watch/or maybe some other brand/model to be used as daily watch . Many thanks in advance!
Hey Nick - Can you please do a comparison video between this and the Seamaster 300? Even though they look so difference there’s a synergy there I think Desk Divers like myself would really enjoy seeing. Especially through your perspective of precision, finishing & value for the $. Given that they’re both practically sharing the same name it’s a good SEO play if nothing else 😉👌🏻

I hate the helium valve, why can't omega just do a automatic helium valve like rolex, ball, and a lot of other manufactures. I looks like a sore thumb and just breaks the aesthetic of the case overall, they made the damn thing bigger, no one dives to 300m anyways.
Same thing is often said about the cyclops wart on many of Rolex's watches. Like the cyclops it's an iconic feature, and honestly on the wrist it isn't ugly at all. The key to the watch's size are the sculped tapered lugs which not only look elegant, but helps the watch wear smaller than it is.
Love this watch. I like the size. The helium valve is a non-issue. I agree about the hands. They're cool looking but would prefer the arms to have more lume. Saving up to get this watch, the only watch I like better is the Sea Dweller (3x the price).
I am waiting for the day that you do a watch review and when you compare sizes and get out the _Spyderco Delica,_ the _Ontario Rat Number One_ and _Ontario Rat Number Two_ out of "force of habit".
I wish they’d change the bracelet and the scalloped bezel. It’s a quality watch but I’ve never liked the daggy 90’s appearance. I prefer the Planet Ocean’s styling
Dude, you absolutely rock, love your channel since ages, however working with calipers is not your stuff ... lug to lug of this is much bigger and was going to be if you measured it correctly :)

F*cking subby killer right here!
Hey Nick, just bought first mechanical from Lewis Jewlers, DK was a pleasure.
It shouldn’t never been compared with the sub, this omega has its own history and personality if you like it buy it for what it is
Awesome and very entertaining review!
I got mine on order.... I got 20% off from an Authorized Dealer so I'm satisfied with that .
website? :D
@@n0cturn2l i got around 22% off from an authorized dealer on sussex st in sydney. just bought a chronograph seamaster only last week. it's very gorgeous timepiece.
@@YanruChen_1 That's amazing!
enjoy it
Great review Nick. I am a fellow knife fan and did not realise you enjoyed a time piece too - Jack of all trades!!
A great review as always, but coukd you do the weight in grams as well as ounces? You use metric for everything else. After this review I might add this to my collection to join my Speedmaster Professional.
Most other reviews show the lug to lug at 50mm. Nicks 47mm which is in line with te prior generation. Which is correct?
Fab review, thanks for sharing!
This is like listening to a bugs bunny cartoon. Great review, I dig your enthusiasm!
whyyyyyyy omega whyyyyyyyy
I so want to buy this.
beautiful omega nice review Nick.
I think 🤔 it’s lovely 😊, only advantage the planet ocean has is the metal numbers on the bezel, as opposed to the enamel on the 300m . Does anyone know the pros and cons of each
I agree the squared off bracelet is very nice.
Great video. Thank you
If they offered this watch with a non-coaxial movement, I'd get it in a heartbeat. I'd prefer something a little closer to 39mm but I can definitely live with that, I can't live with the coaxial movement.
What is wrong with co-axial movement?
Nice review. Thanks.
Clasp is a little think, but you don't really notice it day-to-day. Worth it for the tool-less ratchet style micro adjustment that's built into the clasp, Rolex Glide Lock style. Great review though, I love mine, and I'm sure you'll love yours even more as time passes.
Nice review and beautiful watch. You’re killing me lol
Hey Nick,
I enjoy your knife and watch videos I spend a lot of money because of it 😆. What do you think about jomashop I’ve never bought a watch their and I’m between buying a Tudor bb58 or the new Omega sea master and saving around $500 is tempting . What’s the catch ?
There’s no warranty bought there. Call my buddy DK at Lewis Jewelers, he may be able to match them from a full authorized dealer.
Thanks 👍
@@NickShabazz are they on ebay?
I am so tempted!
It’s called the ceramic wave dial
This watch retail is now $5200, and i paid $4850 out the door at my local jeweler.
Thanks for the wonderful review Nick. I am looking for a diver companion to my Omega Speedmaster Pro as it is only 50 meters water resistant and have been strongly considering the Rolex Steel Submariner but due to supply and pricing the Seamaster may be the better choice.
Monta on the outs ?
The Monta is thinner, more legible, and lighter than this, with a non-in-house movement, and was less than half the price. It's threatened, but has a lot on its side. We'll see!
Don't agree with your comments on the hands, weight, size and clasp but a very fun review to watch as usual.
I’m having a real problem with that cuneiform HE escape valve!
Man.. I think I'm 95% sold on this exact Omega. Just have sell my PAM 380. The only thing that's holding me back is wanting to see the white one with black bezel. But thinking the black one will be cheaper on the second hand market.
I don't like the round lume on the hour hand, it's functional enough but aesthetically I feel like it blends in too much with the applied indices.
thx for great review!👍 Can you give me some help/advice on titanium water resistant 200m reliable time accurate omega watch/or maybe some other brand/model to be used as daily watch .
Nice vid!
Check out the Omega Aqua Terra 150m, all of the pleasure none of the guilt.
You got sold me on my current bookmark watch, the Seiko Samurai (SRPC93). Now I'm set on my next watch as soon as I sell my Panerai.....this exact Omega! Your watch psa did not stick.
wait so the head of the watch is Heavy but you think the clasp should be thinner
then you complain the watch is top heavy
i think you are so confusing
They need to make both the head of the watch and the clasp thinner and lighter.
Nick congrads on getting watch for an adult man. All your reviews on cheapo $400 watches were entertaining. Now get into some Grand Seiko watches and rock this channel
Do a review on the Seiko sumo third-generation 2019 you'll be surprised at the value
Awesome more watch review video!!!
The key to the watch's size are the sculped tapered lugs which not only look elegant, but helps the watch wear smaller than it is.
well its official... Just scored a black wave dialed Omega SMP! 😁👍🤘 You're 2 for 2 on assisting my watch purchase. First being the Seiko Samurai.
i liked the old one better ( not old but before the wave )
Dude, you absolutely rock, love your channel since ages, however working with calipers is not your stuff ... lug to lug of this is much bigger and was going to be if you measured it correctly :)
how´s dat don´t get into watches treat you? :)
