They say awe is good for us Darren and you had an awesome day. The trails got me hooked but so to has the mystery. See how your shoes go. Onto the part 2. Good going. Mark
@@darrencurtisuk Cheers. Was it busy on the trail? And did you book campsite in advance? I have already booked one in Drymen.I assume to start around 12 o`clock (flying from London). I would not like to be fixed to booked campistes. I will find out how it goes as additionally want to reach Ben Lomond too so it my extend original walking plan. Weather will determine my plans :)
Maps.me is tricky to import routes initially. They need to be in the Kml format rather than the Gpx. I use the 'Tracklia' app first step. Import routes into that then share to Maps me as a KML. The route will then in MapsMe. You can then select & save points of interest as 'bookmarks' Remember to download the area within MapsMe for offline use = can fully use in Plane mode to save battery Initially steep learning curve, but bear with it as its really useful
Nice video - we did Milngavie to Rowardennan in 1 day back in July - 27 miles It wasn’t initially planned that way but our fights were pulled forward by 1 days at short notice so we had no choice. It was difficult and later at Bien Glas Farm we managed to offload the rucksacks We’re planning the GGW in June next year
Thanks mate. No I must have got there before they hatched. I had packed some smidge and a head net in preparation for the buggers! Obviously they will be worse near water. Hopefully you get enough of a breeze to deter them
Could you do please do a video on exactly everything you had with you each day like different clothes, food any anything else. I want to do the WHW but I know I will over pack and probably miss something I really need. You seem to have very little but didn’t seem to have any issues. Cheers
Hi mate, I did a kit list video of everything I took Link is here ruclips.net/video/5UyambpNl1w/видео.html Give me a shout if there's anything else you'd like to know
Yes I arrived late and stayed at the Premier Inn, 10 min walk from train station. Then a 5-10min walk to the trail head & greggs in the morning :-) Think I mentioned in the video, there was a tent or 2 in Mugdock Park Wildcamping maybe 15mins into the walk, option to save money perhaps
Well from reading Dan's comments on a forum that Amazon UK were getting stock any time now (earlier this year) I was sad enough to refresh the Amazon page until it popped up as available at about 11:20pm. Thanks for the positive feedback. Enjoy your trip!!!
Enjoyable watch Darren, you definitely clocked up the miles on that first day! What Montbell jacket did you have at the start of the day, I'm considering the Storm Cruiser or Versalite and wondered what your thoughts were if it was either of these? Atb Andy
I have the versalite. Super breathable & lightweight. It claims to be very waterproof but I am yet to wear it in prolonged rain. Perfect for fair weather 3 season use. Size wise its spot on unlike decathlon for example who's clothes tend to run a tad small. Make sure you order the US version as the Japan version doesn't include the pockets or pit zips can't remember which one.
A long & brisk first day but I was keen to crack on out of the lowlands into the good stuff!
total respect for jogging some of it !!

I found it difficult to book as didn't know exactly how each day would go. But most sites have loads of space for hikers so you can just turn up

Balmaha derives from the Scottish Gaelic Bealach Mo-Cha, which means the pass of Saint Mo-Cha.
Hi mate, gonna do this walk end of july/early august. Did you have much bother with midgies. Great insight to the walk. Cheers mate.

Excellent video. I start on May 31st. Question: How on earth did you get your hands on the X-Mid 2? Those tents are like gold dust.

Sorry - that message fired off by accident. Am looking at your choice of rain gear. The montbell looks good...
At that time of year I'm surprised you can walk around the campsite without being swarmed by the midges! 🤣
Few baby ones about, can imagine it gets bad there in peak season!
