Honestly, that strategy for softening the edge of the cloak shadow with a cleaned brush is huge. I never knew it could be that easy and effective. Nice.
Super easy! I have some blending like that in most of my other Contrast guides, especially the Seraphon videos. Those go into a little more depth, if you're interested in seeing more about the technique. Thanks for watching!
as usuall these look absolutely amazing! i do have one question thats not orc related. Could you maybe do some more Hive fleet Kraken Tyranids? Im following your instructions and im curious to how you would paint the guns on models like the Exocrine and the Tyranofax. I also would love to see your take on the Bone Swords.
Been using this skin recipe for my 40K Orks it looks great! One change is I had to use Mantis Warrior Green instead of Vallejo Orc Skin as I can't find Vallejo very easily where I am.
Great to hear! You're right, Mantis Warriors Green is pretty close. Try to find Vallejo if you can; I've found it dries a lot smoother than Mantis does. Worth the hassle of tracking it down!
That green is perfect. Vallejo Xpress seem to be a lot weaker than Contrast paints but it seems like you've figured out how to get the most out of them.
Yeah you're right, Xpress do tend to be weaker strength than Contrast. I still have a lot of experimenting to do with them, but I think I'll end up using more of them in the future. Thanks for watching!
Been a long time since I've painted any greenskins. I really like the vibrant skin color recipe you used. In fact, your vibrant color schemes is what drew me to this channel in the first place. However, I have to ask, have you tried painting anything in the "grimdark" style that seems to be so popular right now? I'm not looking for a tutorial or anything, just curious if you use a variety of styles for different armies or games. Cheers Mr. Matt.
@@shaneflickinger yes ironically I have a few different painting styles! I've painted commissions for a long time and I've developed a few styles from that. Airbrushing, oil washes, traditional layering, etc. The Contrast style on the channel is a new development for me, kind of a hybrid thing that I dont really use outside of personal armies / stuff for the channel. Maybe I should film some of the other stuff I paint?
Little note on the green (it's a running joke in my house that I'm always on the hunt for the "perfect green"): I used to paint greenskins with Plaguebearer Flesh then shade with Biel-Tan Green. Then I used Mantis Warrior Green and/or Vallejo Orc Skin, but found it too yellowy, so I still shaded with Biel-Tan. Now, I use Speedpaint Ghille Dew. It's a yellowy green, but a little darker, so I don't have to do the shade step. Just a suggestion for something to try out.
Any particular reason why you would want to start with painting the skin instead of the darker colours on the armour and clothes? Edit: Oh by the way, your videos convinced me that I need Night Goblins in my life and so I bought 60 of them right away, together with plenty of Squigs, a huge spider thing and 20 Black Orcs.
Each model is different but usually I prefer to paint the lightest areas first, or sometimes the color with the most surface area on the model. I also try to consider painting any hard to reach areas first. I painted the skin first for pretty much those three reasons. Especially being hard to reach under the hoods. I'm more likely to spill some green on the hood while doing the skin, but the black will cover it up much easier than the other way around, if that makes any sense. You could of course paint in whatever way makes the most sense for you! The order shouldn't matter too much. Thanks for watching and good luck with your night goblins!
I use the standard grey primer available from Ace Hardware stores in the US. It's actually a really good primer, goes on smooth, and I haven't had any problems with it. Not to mention it's really affordable.
I've painted a few orcs so far, still testing some different recipes and I haven't decided yet. Lots to consider! When I narrow down a good recipe I'll make a video for it (it has to be simple, easy for viewers to replicate, and most importantly look good!)
I came for the gobbos, I stayed for that cloak. I can’t wait to give this recipe a go.
thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy painting it

Great video, man. These are the best-looking goblins in my opinion. great tutorial also. New fan and subscriber.
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel! Glad you are here.
These look great and you presented it excellently. Very achievable results if you're following along, great job and thanks!

Great painting...really helpful to me, more gobbos please!

Great green skin recipe - thanks!
Hope you paint lots of goblins with it, thanks for watching!
Looks great Matt! Wonderful to see Fantasy on the channel!
Thanks HTM! I enjoy making WHFB content the most
nice work - also I appreciate hearing chill music in a painting video.
Thanks! I like the chill music too... more relaxing that way!
Still these old models are so much more fun then the newer ones. Love them. Bus the pains job is also pretty awesome ❤
Yeah I love the old models too. I agree, way more fun to paint. Thanks for watching!
Nice paint jobs man. Night goblins can be very dark, I like these brighter specimens.
Thanks! Me too, I'm a fan of the bright colors.
Looking good as usual Matt!
thank you Brother Mundo!
Great job on these!

Thanks for watching, and for the suggestion! I'd like to revisit Kraken again. Hopefully some time soon!

@@MattsHobbyHour Might make for an interesting showcase video if you are not in the mood to do a tutorial. Flex a little Mr. Matt.

Green really is a tough color to get right. Thanks for the tips!
What an awesome video
Thanks for watching!
Matt, could you approach orks from 40k?? Something a bit speedy? Would be really nice to see how do you paint them
You're right, the channel is definitely missing some dakka. I'll see if I can work some Orks into the queue! Thanks for the suggestion!
@@MattsHobbyHour wish i could sent you a few 😅 i have both the beastsnagga boxset and the combat patrol, also the komandos from kill team

What brand of primer did you use? I find the vallejo. Grey is too light and the AK grey comes off to easily

@MattsHobbyHour thanks unfortunately I am UK based!
Great tutorial! Are You considering painting Gobbapalloza? 😁
Thanks! Never heard of that before. What is it?
Are you using the same skin recupe for orcs or is this just for gobbos?
I've painted a few orcs so far, still testing some different recipes and I haven't decided yet. Lots to consider! When I narrow down a good recipe I'll make a video for it (it has to be simple, easy for viewers to replicate, and most importantly look good!)
Beautyfull
Thank you!
Gobbos are the best. The older models always had more character.
nothing beats the old stuff!
If Bob Ross painted minis...
He'd play Wood Elves for sure!
moar Orcs!
Errr.... Brush control, much?!
WAAAGH!
