When will they have updated base sizes for old world? I have already bought hundreds of the sizes they have and would love to pick some up for 30mm square and 30x60 cav
The Grudge is that the Bretonnians commissioned the Dwarfs to build them a new castle, but they mistakenly forgot a single gold piece in the total payment to the Dwarfs, so in the book it goes and a War of Vengeance is required to settle the grudge.
And when the Dwarfs arrived at the castle, Bretonnians called their mothers "hamsters" and said that their fathers smelled of elderberries. That was just too much to handle.
This seems maybe too obvious, but have you attempted to reach out to them? Not sure how you would do that, but I am positive all these other channels have; to initiate contact and get the flow of free models flowing :o@@EonsOfBattle
“The Grudge” comes from an ancient fable the dwarfs tell, in which a Bretonian knight and a dwarf both embarked on a quest to save a princess from a dragon’s den. They got to the princess and were escaping when they were chased by the dragon. Crossing a bridge to safety, the princess went first but right as the dwarf and the knight were about to cross, the bridge fell to the void below. Without hesitation, the knight grabbed the dwarf and threw him across the chasm to safety and then the knight turned to face the dragon in combat. The knight was able to put the dragon down and eventually managed to get across the chasm by rapelling (just like primce charming at the beginning of shrek 2). But when he crossed to safety, he found his old companion bitter and betrayed. The proud dwarf was salty that the knight had taken all the glory for himself. To this day, when people of all races want to refer to the dwarfs in a derrogatory sense, they mimic the motion of throwing a sack of potatos and laugh at the dawrfs. The dwarfs now have a distaste for the bretonians, and still educate their youth to remember that “no one tosses a dwarf”
The Grudge: During a harvest celebration, a group of Bretonnian squires got drunk, and snuck into the dwarven camp. As a prank they shaved the beard off of one of the dwarves. The next day war were declared, as they'd unknowingly shaved the beard of the dwarf kings brother.
Very nice paint job on those Dwarves, Jay. I am surprised if GW doesn't really know you, as your channel has a very respectable following. Your experience shows in the quality of your work. Keep up the great work you do and thanks for sharing.
The Grudge could be that a Bretonnian knight (maybe part of the Royal family) had a quest which ending in a Dragon being slain. That Dragon (Ve’goré) was the guardian to your Dwarves treasure. Great videos keep them coming. Terry
I love the texture you have added to the Dwarfs, your painting just keeps getting better and better. The Grudge could be the Britonnians ran an advertising campaign that their beer is better than Bugmans Beer. The banner icon could be a Bugmans beer standing proud and crushing a knight XD
really looking forward to more dwarfs in the future! please keep up this project! Also I think that the brets made fun of the size of the dwarf's war pony for being small, and that went right into the book!
If you’re going against bretonnians, put you lord on some shieldbearers, and get some hammerers. Anything equiped with great weapons is your friend! So stoked to see you doing some old world! Also with some movement trays you can use your AoS Sylvaneth as wood elves in TOW too! Good luck!
EoB is by far my favorite mini youtube channel, but you usually paint models I dont care about (and I watch them anyway). Seeing you paint square based fantasy is perfect!
The grudge would be one whispered amongst man's oldest stories. One nearly lost to time. The damnable humans were lax in their translation on a gift of finely wrought symbols of friendship. They translated a passage that used the word small using a Dwarven word meaning weak, of little durability, fragile like pumice. The humans, not knowing their error, presented this gift and were taken aback at the insult the dwarves took at the finest craftsmanship of men. In the ensuing row, the vow of vengeance was sworn. To weigh down the men in an eternity of war. Dwarves live long lives, and their memories are longer still. They fight on, never forgetting the slight.
The Bretonians betrayed the Dwarfs. They agreed to ride out and fight for the dwarves against Blue Orcs and when the battle started they retired instead of riding forth. Causing the dwarfs to fight a losing rearguard action. Never Forget Koom Valley!
The Grudge. On a visit to Bretonnia by your young lord(centuries ago). He we out drinking with a bunch of Knights and got so drunk he passed out. When he awakened the next morning he found that the Knights had played a practical joke and shaved off his mustache. This is the grudge of the Hairless lip.
There's something about the look of warhammer fantasy armies that can't be beaten, and these dwarves look amazing! So excited to see what they all look like together!
Very nice paint job! Great seeing some dwarfs get some loving - they were my first army! Please paint up some more of these and perhaps have a short (1.000’ish) battle report on the channel. 😊
They look good Jay, I have been finally gotten to my Dwarves this year and they are a mix of GW (ultra old from the late 1980's to the early 1990's), Mantic Dwarves and some from Northstar. So far 290 Dwarves have been painted and based and almost done with their war machines (7 in total), just need to ink their fresh and beards and then do their bases. Then it back to finish off my Elves (only 75 more to go for them). This was a project that I started last year (painted 541 miniatures last year, would have been more but I decided that the plastic bases had to go and when with wooden bases had to rebase 601 of the miniatures). I also made an inventory of my 40K Epic last year (found that I have over 17,000 pts in five different armies Eldar, Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Squats & Orks). So far this year I have painted 335 miniatures and when I finish those crew served weapons that number will be around be 370 miniatures painted. Want to get around 540+ miniatures this year. Really want my Empire/Humans (approx around 800+ miniatures), Elves (around 360 miniatures) & Dwarves (340 miniatures) done but know that I won't because of the amount of cavalry that needs to be done. Then there still my Orks & Goblins and Undead to do and combined they have almost as many miniatures as the above armies. Like like big battles and gave up on GW around 25 years ago.
I may be in the minority, but I think those old dwarves are perfect. They perfectly capture the aesthetic of a Warhammer dwarf in a way the new ones just miss, for me. I remember working in a game store back in the early 2000s, when the starter box with dwarves came out, and I painted the entire dwarf half of it. It was so much fun.
Would love to see a part 2. You made me start a dwarf army when this came out a few months ago and now i have watched it again to dust off the old painters block!
The dwarves army box plus Thorgrim and a couple others was my first big comission, and second comission overall. This was super nostalgic for me! Thanks for the video Jay!
This was so cool to watch. I've loved dwarfs ever since they were my main in Total War Warhammer, and it's nice to see new content about this old models.
Seriously, this is one of my favorite videos of yours. All the multi-shot painting parts 4:53 are super informative and fun to watch. Also, I'm going to coin a new term here based off of your video. Your demonstration of CFT at 12:55 is a pleasure to watch Now please get to paining that enormous pile of Dwarfs you dropped at the end. The painted lads need their mates so they can beat that 30 silver out of those thieving Bretonnians.
I haven't finished the video yet but just noticed some warpaints fanatic in the background. Definitely plan on picking some of those up, especially if these greens were from them. Should be perfect for my DA
Absolutley loved this video as someone who played Dwarves , back in the day. I didnt want to paint, but now, now i think im gonna try some non metallic metal, and scoure ebay for classic fantasy minis
Definitely got me at the start, I was super excited for you Love the paint job and have been looking for a new base job for my armies, super cool the grudge: after the Bretonnian's pushed the greenskin waagh back to the worlds edge mountians, they trespassed on an ancient dwarf forge. Even though they cleared the den, the dwarfs accuse them of stealing their secrets of the forge.
Great video! Love the painting. I have had an idea for making bases for a while now : a bog! This will be great for a Death Guard army (when I'll start 40k some day). When I saw your ''Falls stuff'', the shredded and dyed foam, I immediately thought it was made for that... Hope this inspires you!
Great seeing these old minis given a refresh, I have some Bugmans dwarf rangers still in the box to pain up. I would say the grudge is they stole your Beer, cant let them get away with that!!!
I've been in a rut with my armies recently because I want them to be nmm but it's hard. Your way of doing it is interesting, going to start up on them again because of you
Jay!! Thank you for giving Old World some screen time! I know you were on the fence about it. I'm also in the same boat with the "it's extra fun when I have to find that one mini from my childhood on eBay to complete my collection" nostalgia drive.
Oh also the grudge is that they didn't use the EXACT correct honorific to greet the Thane. It was "your royal highness" not "Your mountain's lordship". Instant grudgin'.
Another great video, I would to see a fully painted up dwarf army! I think the old sculpts have some character and your paint scheme suits them like a glove.
Those dwarves are gorgeous, absolute classic minis. Reminds me of my dwarf army from the 90s. It's gonna be a tough call between dwarves and goblins! Just like is was back then
Ages ago, the dwarven ancestors faced a brutal invasion of their home that led to the fall of the dwarven empire, Karak Ankor. Desperate for aid, they sought refuge from the ancestor's of Sean's Bretonians. Perhaps perceiving the dwarves as outsiders or not comprehending the urgency of their situation, the Bretonians refused to offer aid and turned the dwarves away. Feeling betrayed and abandoned during the dwarves darkest hour a deep grudge was fostered against not only Sean's specific clan of Bretonians, but also the race as a whole. As the dwarves clawed back their identities and empire through grueling hard work and suffering (that could have been lessened with the aid of the Bretonians), they now have the strength to act on this grudge in the coming battles. I like this because its gives a reason for the tension using a historic in game background without it being too outrageous. Skavens and orcs are kill on sight because of their evil nature. That is to be expected of them because they are an evil race. The "noble" bretonians ought to have helped but they didn't. They are the reason that the rebuilding of the dwarven empire was significantly harder than it needed to be. This would create an environment that was hostile but not in open conflict until a breaking point occurred over something silly like trade agreements or a dwarven emissary overhearing the bretonian leaders make a joke about height.
Great video. I really enjoyed it. Dwarfs were my second Warhammer army after Vampire counts in the 1990s, and I still have them today. In fact, I played them last week with 8th edition rules. I have all the minis you've painted. I look forward to seeing more of them. Yeah, they were tight on 20 mm bases. LOL - 25 mm would be a luxury. (No, I'm not rebasing. I will use spacers movement trays if I use the Old World rules.) One thing about painting all dwarf beards orange is that colour was sort of reserved for the Slayers. I have a unit of 30 Slayers all with orange beards. Now for a good grudge against the Bretonnians. I think it would have to involve not paying for some work done by the dwarves, maybe repairs or upgrade to a castle? Or it could involve a terrible insult to a dwarf lord's long, luxurious beard. Not sure how you can translate that to a banner, but good luck. Most dwarf banners had runes or images of mountains. I look forward to what you come up with.
My first army! I personally don't remember the details being that shallow (but compared to a 2024 bone dragon...) but I did the simple metallic+wash+dry brush so my struggles were minimal. Those green shields are a dead ringer for my Karak Hirn lads too ❤
Love The Old World. These are looking great. Even the older models make such solid miniatures. I've definitely become more of a collector since they announced the re-launch.
Damb it , making me wana rebase and repaint all my Kings of War 😂😅, love you Jay. The Grudge🤔= The Yowman said Bows were better then Gunpowder. 🤺in the 📖 you go
For the grudge - an arrogant bretonnnian lord, while dismounting his horse, purposefully dismounted on the head of a noble dwarf. Afterwards, he said "Didn't notice you down there".
Jay's a hobbit? I've always presumed that Jay's workbench is an unusually tall work surface; but maybe it is a normal dining room table after all, and Jay has been standing up all this time?! 🤔😄👍 Great paint jobs and enthusiasm as ever on this channel. 🤗 In the Pendragon RPG, one of the locations is a manor house, that has an "unusual custom". Any visitor has to fight the lord of the manor, and, if the visitor loses, they have to shave off their beard. This sounds like the sort of chivalric shenanigans that could lead to a grudge with a disgruntled dwarf.
I understand just running into a army without doing any research. I fell in love with the dragoon Lancers for adeptus mechanicus. Next thing you know, I've got random characters on my paint schedule
You did a fantastic job!! I have never thought about doing NMM with blue. Also I have never tied NMM!! Haha. Maybe one day. The feud you speak of is one as old as time it’s self…the dwarves hate the Brits because the of salt mine disaster back in the before fore time….. I don’t know that’s what I got. Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
Grudge suggestion - Following the defeat of Orc Invaders, the Bretonian and Dwarf allies hosted a huge celebratory feast. At the main table, sat the Dwarf lord and Bretonian Duke. As the feast hit midnight, the drunk Duke spilt his wine on what turned out to be the Dwarf Lord's precious heirloom table cloth. Enraged by the insult shown to his mother's table cloth, the Dwarf Lord immediately ends the feast and returns to his hold. The banners could reflect a split chalice of red wine with the moon in the background.
Looks good! I've also been taking a little break from 40k and doing some looking into the Age of Sigmar/Warhammer fantasy lore (mostly Laying down the lore podcast) plus building a few things for Warcry & rescuing a few used Warhammer fantasy minis. It's a very fun amount of stuff for the old world.
I’ve put off collecting a dwarf army for 30 years because I couldn’t be bothered painting endless beards and chainmail but you know what, sack it I think I’m inspired.. to do a slayer army 😂 Cheers Jay!
The nonmetallic colours you used absolutely did add a lot more depth to the miniatures which let's face it are rather small since they are dwarfs and where the miniatures come from Skull Pass they just lacked a bit of depth to the sculpts to begin with. Really cool army concept and it will be great to see the full force done up.
You had me! I was SO happy for you then...the bubble burst. Good one! I think one of Sean's Bretonnians corrected the grammar of one of the Dwarfs...in public!

This would create an environment that was hostile but not in open conflict until a breaking point occurred over something silly like trade agreements or a dwarven emissary overhearing the bretonian leaders make a joke about height.
Woo!! Old World! Classic minis are awesome, and love the paint job!
Awesome Dwarves... Totally worth the time to get painted up...
This was a fun video! Thanks. I am keen to explore Kobold Keep's base options when I can, they look amazingly functional for my needs.
🤺in the 📖 you go
Come on GW, get on board with Eons and send Jay the entire Old World range! This channel is awesome.
You have convinced me to paint my dwarves! Looking forward to an update to this army!
For the grudge - an arrogant bretonnnian lord, while dismounting his horse, purposefully dismounted on the head of a noble dwarf. Afterwards, he said "Didn't notice you down there".
Cracking work mate. Love how easy you make this look.
Congrats on 200k subs, Jay and the rest of the EoB team. Your content is amazing - keep up the awesome work!
Jay's a hobbit? I've always presumed that Jay's workbench is an unusually tall work surface; but maybe it is a normal dining room table after all, and Jay has been standing up all this time?! 🤔😄👍
Great paint jobs and enthusiasm as ever on this channel. 🤗
In the Pendragon RPG, one of the locations is a manor house, that has an "unusual custom". Any visitor has to fight the lord of the manor, and, if the visitor loses, they have to shave off their beard. This sounds like the sort of chivalric shenanigans that could lead to a grudge with a disgruntled dwarf.
Omg... Jay really had me going with that opening. The switch was perfect. X'D
These are awesome! Can’t wait to see the rest painted up!
These look simple but amazing. I'd love to see more!
These look incredible, they just read so well. Definitely worth the old models.
Your paint job on those old, old little guys makes them shine. 👍
Those Dwarves are beautifully painted, it suits them so well
Grudge suggestion - Following the defeat of Orc Invaders, the Bretonian and Dwarf allies hosted a huge celebratory feast.
Those dwarfs are beautiful. Lovely. Wasted on cross country. Thanks for sharing guys.
I’ve put off collecting a dwarf army for 30 years because I couldn’t be bothered painting endless beards and chainmail but you know what, sack it I think I’m inspired.. to do a slayer army 😂 Cheers Jay!
Love that you dipped into WHFB. Hope to see more projects in the future!
Grudge: They made non-alcoholic beer. "What is the point of Drinkin if ye aint gonna get plastered" - Dwarf Forge King Dul'Garth MithrilHeart
You had me! I was SO happy for you then...the bubble burst. Good one!
I think one of Sean's Bretonnians corrected the grammar of one of the Dwarfs...in public!
This was a really great video. I hope to see more videos about your growing Dwarf army.
