  • The cat 977H track adjuster cylinder blew a seal. In order to repack the gland seals in the cylinder the track had to be split. The side needing repair was already 1 link longer than the other side (was that way ever since I owned it). Pins and bushings are fair so I cut the master link out with torch.....buy a new Berco pin. Repack cylinder and repair track. Back in action. The same could be done even if not needing to remove a link you would just need to purchase a replacement link.

We have to do this same repair on a D7E. Do you have more video? Were you not able to press the master pin out? How do you identify it?

The master pin was not able to be pressed out. Identifying the master link depends on what type of track chain you have. Also the tracks on this machine were longer than needed and I measured and had enough room to cut one link out and back adjustment off.

How did you remove the cylinder out of the spring side?

If I recall the cylinder should just unbolt from spring side and can be pulled out.
