- Police have arrested two people after protesters threw soup at the Mona Lisa painting in The Louvre Museum.
On Sunday, protesters from French organisation Riposte Alimentaire sprayed the 16th-century painting by Leonardo Da Vinci with pumpkin soup.
The Paris museum confirmed no damage was done to the world-famous painting, which has been behind protective armoured glass since 2005.
Following the incident, Paris police said they had arrested two people, according to the AP news agency.
TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with Climate Media Coalition’s Donnachadh McCarthy over the protest.

Food poverty and they are throwing soup at paintings? Good food wasted... You couldn't make it up.
How do you know the soups good?

In the 70s most Climatologists were predicting warming. Peterson - The myth of the 70s cooling consensus - Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. What you remember is the sensationalist documentary hosted by Leonard Nimoy. Don't get your science from Spock.

I remember being told Portsmouth would be our version of Venice by the time I was 30. I think he's a good sport sparring with Julia. He's outclassed time after time and he's thick enough to keep coming back.
Their bank balances should be investigated because nobody would make fools of themselves without being well paid for it. I'd wager that most activists are on someone's payroll.
I agree, he is also "Thick" when he said there is a "no cost damage" caused. There is a cost to repair or clean the damage by throwing paint or whatever onto the wall or painting, unless of course French law allows it.

He actually makes a valid point about the poor state of soil where intensive agriculture has been a factor. What he doesn't say is that rotating the use of land and letting livestock graze, drop manure, and thereby replenish the soil is probably the best and most sustainable way to reverse this damage. But then I assume he's also a vegan and doesn't like livestock farming.
We can regenerate the soil with a veganic system - vegan + organic. Look at Tollhurst Farm.
He's also right about overfishing, trawling IS harmful.
The rest however, is just veganist-religious twaddle.
Yep! Crop rotation has been known since the dark ages! I even do it on my Veg Patch - Brassicas -> Roots -> Others in that order!!!

@@user-pj5ub5cp9kDo you know what a rethorical question is?
The earth tilts and the North Pole moves. That’s why when map reading you have to check the date the map was printed to calculate the movement of the north. As the earth tilts in its normal cycle more of the north and south poles face the sun, hence the earth warms then cools.
The medieval, Roman warm periods and Holocene thermal optimimum are inconvenient to the CO2 narrative. The natural recovery from the Little Ice Age is also inconvenient to he warming due to industrial emissions. Don’t even go to the Emmian warm period which even the IPCC state was warmer than the current warmth, no jets or SUVs back then.

@@garygee1468 Battery storage
@@Richard482 You do know that batteries and solar panels require certain metals and other materials that require *lots* of energy to mine and manufacture, and some of those materials are quite toxic and must be disposed of in some manner which is an issue as well.
Oh woe is me we're all doomed, there are bigger issues in the world right now than the climate.
War, disease and famine are the big issues. Both the current mean annual surface temperature of Earth and the current atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration are suboptimal for plant growth. A modest increase in both has the net beneficial effects of increased agricultural yields (main effect) reduced winter heating costs, fewer deaths from hypothermia and postponement of the next glacial maximum.
Fields that have been used to grow crops are still growing food hundreds of years later. Farmers know what they are doing.
crop rotaion started in the 15th century....
Thanks to fertilisers also.
Fallow is what it's called, and fallow is a farming technique in which arable land is left without sowing for one or more vegetative cycles. In short, that allows the land to recover. @@hvidhavn1

If a random tourist did this they would be paying billions in fines and be in jail by now.
They all look the same . Deranged .
Having recently come back from Germany, they have it much worse with food inflation than we do here in the UK, but that doesn’t suit the narrative against Brexit
They say Netherlands are even worse!
Same in the US. We visit the US a couple of times a year and their food costs are pretty horrendous compared to the UK.

Food inflation is over50% here and all due to excess money printing. Net zero wont help of course!
if you believe the bbc the eu is a wonderful utopia....and yet people will risk their lives crossing the channel to get to the uk.
So do we assume that the fields that they are filling with solar panels are the ones with sub standard soil due to the soil crisis?
LOL They are putting solar panel fields in Canada where it takes far more power to create them then they will ever produce. It's truly an embarrassing time to be alive. Say what you will about our ancestors but at least they were headed in the right direction.

Whenever a person puts forward a logical argument against their views they choose to brush them aside as irrelevant. I have yet to hear a coherent argument in favour of this supposed climate crisis. We have to be realistic about our consumption of the earth's resources and ensure future generations have prosperity. Our resources are not infinite and should be conserved but not on the scale these activists would have us believe.
We live in an age where all the world's knowledge is in everyone's pocket. The only reason we still disagree is there are delusional and brainwashed people spouting nonsense on social media.

To think a genius of the enlightenment like Da Vinci should have to suffer the indignity of having his masterpiece abused by some uneducated jobless freaks is heartbreaking.
I would be more concerned with the increase in population of the UK (30 million in almost as many years!) and subsequent encroachment into agricultural space, having created a situation where the indigenous agriculture is now no longer able to produce sufficient food for the population, in the event of a 'crisis'. It is imports that maintain the British Isles, and our politicians have allowed us to reach a situation where our import routes are vulnerable in a conflict situation - such as the one where recent calls for conscription have been publicized.

Thankfully there is that protection of the Mona Lisa in place. The reason why this painting is famous is because at this point of the Renaissance, Da Vinci was instrumental in introducing a new way in which people were painted that differed substantially from the rather stylised and idealistic methods used in medieval times pre-dating this period. Mona Lisa was a relatively ordinary subject, not a monarch or aristocrat or senior clergyman, and her enigmatic depiction (rather neutral look) has intrigued people for centuries
Did he really say we should all turn vegan, to save the Planet.Stupid idea Loses 99.9% of support on that idea alone.
Everyone turning to eating bushes means more land needed for agriculture and more crops being grown that will in turn rob the soil further which means more fertilizer will be needed which means more fossil fuels needed to produce more fertilizer. Round and round we go.
No one was hurt? People travel from all over the world to visit The Louvre, particularly the Mona Lisa, at great expense, a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most, and these spoilt brats turn up and ruin everything.
In the 80's protesting meant writing letters, getting donations, etc. but there was always some idiot who wanted to go much further and piss people off. Doing that just harms your cause, and these people do it because they want attention on themselves, not the causes they claim to support that in reality they don't really care about.
A lot of agricultural land is not suitable for arable farming. THe landscape would have to be drastically altered, Terraces built, wet lands drained and a lot of extra fertiliser (from fissile fuels) used.
I’m not eating highly processed plant food! The end.
rice production is very co2 intensive also bad for drainage.

Without fossil fuels for fertiliser, 6 billion people would die from starvation within two years. If you don't believe me, look at what happened in Sri Lanka. If you have noticed food prices going up, then know that the reason is the higher cost of energy, farmers are leaving the land because of the green and red tape created by the government and environmentalists,

The other thing they never mention is the shear volume of grains, pulses and veg you'd need to consume to get an adequate amount of dietary protein. That's a hell of a lot of calories, a sicker population, and it exposes his lie about agriculture being a more efficient use of land.
Yep. If he got his way and we all switched to a plant based diet, the demand would increase so much that there wouldn’t be enough farm land left to produce it.
Rubbish. You get all the protein you need from plants. Your ignorance is profound although, sadly, typical.
Yeah they always avoid going into detail about how we'll grow all this plant based food, and where. Have we to stop eating the sheep that live on rocky hillsides, good luck planting there.

When the billionaires take the climate seriously, I might take a look.
How much fossil fuels did your tin foil hat take to make?
They know its BS, and we shoulda figured that out for ourselves when Al Gore said the ice caps would be gone by 2015. The guy compared pictures from winter and summer and said "look the caps are shrinking", and people still take it seriously to this day.
She's absolutely right about fertiliser; the Haber Process uses fossil fuels to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere into plant food. This process alone enabled the human population to grow from 1 billion to nearly 8 billion because it allowed us to produce so much food by being able to fertilise otherwise infertile soils. In fact 50% of the nitrogen found in human body tissue comes from nitrogen fixated from the atmosphere by the Haber Process.
