Not only did we end slavery,which still goes on in Africa to this day, but we paid to buy the freedom of slaves which was a huge cost to this country. A cost that we only finished paying for in 2015, so anyone who has paid tax before that date has paid for the freedom of those slaves. Slavery was bad, yes, but giving people money for "suffering " things that they never endured in the first place is ludicrous. Nobody should have to answer for their ancestors misdeeds, especially when everybody who committed these acts and the victims have all been dead and gone for hundreds of years.
