    Great video. Whilst I shoot 35mm it is good anytime a film company expands their line - competition is usually good for consumers and hopefully the rise in film prices will soon level off. Although I haven't visited Tacoma and the area since 2011, there is much to photograph there. I am pushing 70 yrs old but found parts of Tacoma stuck in a funky time warp that's easy to appreciate.

    Got a few rolls of Kent 100 and 400 to use and looking forward to trying them, but HP5 and FP4 are so good its going to be hard to make the change. Not used delta that much (shot a few rolls of Delta 100 but wasn't wowed enough to use it more) but find Hp5/FP4 very good value already. In the UK HP5 seems to be around £6.75 and Kent 400 £5.5 so about 20% cheaper, Delta 400 by comparison is £8.00! Shoot on a Hasselblad 501cm, generally 80mm F2.8 if that matters...

    I usually prefer color film, especially with the kind of natural subjects I like to photograph, but I like to process my film at home rather than send it off to a lab. It's less effort to process B&W film, especially when I can stand develop it, but that usually results in less contrast. I think the more urban areas would look better on B&W, like maybe closer to downtown, while there's a lot of colorful autumn foliage that would look better on color film. I almost feel like going down to Tacoma again, but I can't exactly find a reason to make the hour or so drive down there unless I'm going for an event or Amazon Flex sends me down there to deliver a few packages

    Great video!
    Especially loved the indoor 67 shots.
    I'm not trying to be mean, but provide a possible explanation. When talking about the SQ-A's lightmeter "...it was telling me to shoot at 1/15th...resulted in a not-so-sharp image"
    If I understand correctly -- you're saying the blurriness is caused by overexposure?
    That's not what went wrong and it's due to shooting from the hand at a slower shutterspeed. The wider the lens, the slower you can shoot -- as a rule. But 1/30th is usually the slowest anyone should shoot when handholding.

    • @BraeHunziker
      @BraeHunziker  Год назад

      Thanks!
      And that is what I was saying. The light meter tends to over expose images, resulting in it telling me to shoot at a slower shutter speed. Shooting handheld at the slower shutter speed (1/30th) is the reason why the image is blurry. That's what I explain in the video when I say that I shot the image at 1/30th of a second.

    I shoot mostly b&w films from Kodak, Ilford and Fomapan. Seeing the results from this film, I am impressed. I will definitely spend money on this film, especially at the affordable price. I have not shot on Kentmere before, and think I might be missing out not doing so. It would be even more awesome if they would market a 220 version of this film, like old times. Frequent changing of rolls in the field is cumbersome.

    Old Town Tacoma in the autumn once again does not disappoint. Five minutes before watching this I ordered 8 rolls 35 and 120 Kentmere 100/400. While the Pentax 67 is out for repair it's time to test a new to me 70 year old Canon L1 and an Argus C3. Bringing in a film in this price range has me also ready to try some home developing (Speedy ePhoto will still be my local go to developer though).

    • @metalfingersfilm
      @metalfingersfilm Год назад +5

      lmao both parties are benefitting in a common marketing technique

    • @alexv8024
      @alexv8024 Год назад

      Something being common doesn’t make it fair. With these numbers it is not a fair exchange - any online marketing person would tell you that. 20-40k views on a video do not bring nearly as much revenue to a video creator, even proportionally as they do to a product manufacturer. Not to mention it is a cheap product and a perishable (which is unthinkable to be provide a sponsorship offer for). A lot of practices are unfair and unethical, just because they are common doesn’t mean they should be normalized even further. Video creators put in tremendous amount of work, creativity and time into these videos - so if you support these creators, I’d assume you would advocate for them, not against them and their hard work, time and creativity. It’s normal to refuse a sponsorship or a conmpenaation for this sort of work, but to not be offered any is questionable, however common it may be.

    • @metalfingersfilm
      @metalfingersfilm Год назад +2

      @@alexv8024 I understand your point, but obviously Brae found this transaction to be beneficial to him, as he wouldn't have took the opportunity had it presented itself. He's not an idiot, he knows what he's doing and how to navigate this landscape. This video is the 1st ( I think) of what I would assume would be a lasting relationship with Ilford, which will unlock much more opportunities through patience rather than driving away future opportunities for chasing a bag for a single video.
      As a content creator myself, having the eyes of Ilford on my work enough for them to send out some free film, would be so exciting for me, regardless if I'm benefitting monetarily from it right this very moment.
      Your comment comes across as belittling to the content creator, who's seemingly "NoT TaKiNG ADvAnTaGe oF HiS OpPoRtuNiTIes".

    • @alexv8024
      @alexv8024 Год назад

      No belittling at all. Just a comment on illford marketing practices. Like I said the only issue is the fact that they didn’t offer creators a decent exchange. My whole point is that creators are not in a position to not make a video - that’s what a company like illford is taking advantage of. There wasn’t a transaction, that’s the whole point, illford knows creators will make free advertisement, high quality advertisement. There’s no agreement there and that is very smart on illford a part, there’s no long lasting relationship either. They do nothing, send off film to RUclipsrs and wait for free promotion they know they will get. There’s no actual relationship involved - what’s the benefit for the video creators? They will get another new film stock in 2-3 years and make another free ad for illford? Video creators can make videos with or without new film stock dropping and still get similar number of views. In this scenario only illford actually wins, video creators however, with no contract, no benefits, no sponsorship put in days of work for these companies. This is not a common practice, not in a way it’s been going for the past few years. Film companies, are coming back enough to introduce new film stock. They are not startups - they are successful businesses, considering demand for film. I can call into question unfair and unethical business practices and not attack anyone’s intellegence. It’s when people start defending these companies and talking about how common these practices are (they aren’t ) where problems really come from.
