- All criticism and praise are accepted. Sorry for the long wait. It took 2 months to complete this video, mostly from having to restart twice due to corrupted files and figuring out why they kept being corrupted. I wanted to make a guide that wasn’t just someone telling you what’s good and expecting you to understand why but more to explain the system behind how the weapon can be used efficiently in a terse manner. I’ve been trying my absolute best at editing and graphic design in order to make quality content which I hope to produce in the future along with my educational videos. Might just make a blend of them, who knows.

Your movement at combat so smooth , your dodge stamina so few , and not moving too far from Rathian , so can always hit on her head , so cool
im always evading and rolling too far , until almost myw stamina depleted
this guide so helpign and made me new point of view of Switch Axe Movement , Cool Content Bro
+1 Subs and Like
No worries about the grammar, I understood it all. Controlling movement is super important. Excessive actions make it hard to stay focused on a specific part. Its the main reason I avoid using Evade extender. Just keep practicing your movement and I do recommend Rathian so you can get the hang of walking, evading, and attack moves.
Thank you for this Switch Axe guide. I just started using the weapon last night after sticking with Longsword and Sword and Shield for so long and I didn't know what I was doing, but this gave me a much clearer idea of how to develop my playstyle!
I'm learning switch axe now in rise and this is a pretty good reasource for that. Thank You so much
Just got back into Monster Hunter and decided to learn the Switch Axe. This has been so valuable and helpful! Thanks so much
So much info here! Really good stuff on the general gameplay.
I only thing I want to say is that Phial Switch Boost definitely increases the phial effect on axe to sword morph attacks. Unclear what the measurements on things like status since increasing status applied doesn't increase damage. However, Power and Element phial with PSB definitely increase Raw or Element (on axe to sword morphs only) by an additional 10% respectively on top of their existing effect. It is not additive to the phial effect either, it's a separate multiplier stacked on top (why the 180 power phial went up to 198. For the element, only the fire went up 10%).
Great video though, can tell how much work and passion went into.
The funniest thing is, after I released the video I was testing things and moticed that all morph attacks are affected by Phial Switch Boost and I've been hoping no one caught that LOL. Thanks for the addition and recognition of my work!
This video was amazing. Thank you so much for the informative guide.
Thanks for the fantastic in-depth guide!
I put a lot into it, I hope you got a lot out of it
Amazing guide specially on the cover of the spacing with the movest, it's something that even still in master rank I am struggling with but I'm getting there
thank you so much
Thank you, even if just a little I'm glad to have been of help. If you want to practice, you can fight any monster you're comfortable with even if they're a low level threat like Izuchi and move up from there. There's no shame in running basic quests instead of anomaly if you need to.
This was an awesome guide. Playing through with my son and went from charge blade to switch axe for something different and am having a blast, this guide has been incredibly helpful
Welcome to the father's side of morphing family LOL! Glad to have been of assistance
thanks for the great guide mate! it helped me as hell thank you
This was incredibly informative. Well done
I appreciate it greatly!
Thank you for your commitment to do this video!
You're welcome and thank you for watching! I'll have more videos like this once Wilds comes out but for now its just ppaceholding content~
this guide is so fucking good
Very good guide as always. Thanks you!
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
now i need guide for every weapon
Oh man, that might have to be an MH6 thing with how long this one took x13
very helpful, i've been playing the franchise for 10 years now. And just got into swaxe. Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much! I hope your switch axe journey is a good one!
thank you for keeping the attack info platform agnostic
great video, the attack movement is something i would like to improve on
Super late response, Im sorry. For attack moves, I'd say start light and be aware of what mode you're in and whether or not you need to shift for what's coming next. Morphing to axe is for mobility while morphing to sword is done offensively.
A good example is morphing from sword to axe to chase the monster to escape or dodge. Axe to sword is your bread and butter starter as you can either morph stationary as a lunge by holding forward after an axe attack(usually forward thrust as its the fastest and gives you distance) or morphing after an evade while holding forward as the sword overhead will lunge.
I recommend practicing on monsters like Arzuros, Rathian, and Tigrex
Crazy cause ive been playing with this weapon for about 3 weeks and ive been waiting for this. LETS GOOOOOO!!
Yes siiir, you've picked up the best weapon in the game full bias
@@MahnsterHunter I think after I figure out how most monsters play, I can feel more comfortable with the weapon
Its all definitely match up based. I'd say practice against Arzuros, Daimyo Hermi, Barroth, and Rathian
@@MahnsterHunter I am on it! I will make you proud lol
He got me to practice on Rathian and @MahnsterHunter can tell you I improved a lot over my old style of play
Started playing Monster Hunter with World and my first weapon was the Switch Axe. It's a wonderful weapon to use and I've described non-ZSD play as like chunkier dual blades, but even when you're using a lot of ZSD it's so fun to weave in and out of the monster's attacks.
I just wanna point out to not sleep on Status Trigger. I'm not 100%, you should test this first because I may be misremembering, but I think that status buildup occurs on the phial pops too. I know I've used the Kitty Swaxe (Felyne Fatality) against late MR monsters to great effect with Status Trigger though, and it's the closest thing since Kjarr Paralysis in Base World we've had to a good Para Swaxe, as in iceborne it still only had blue sharpness.
Great video my man. Get more people on the Swaxe train.
Thank you thank you~ Yeah I never sleep on status trigger. Paired with buildup boost on the Scorned Magna and Flaming Espinas Switch Axe is disgusting damage. Its a shame the SA didnt get as many status options outside of poison
I picked up Rise again after getting hyped for Wilds and decided to pick up a new weapon. After much debate, ended up picking Switch Axe. I just have to say, this guide may be long, but it has every bit of information I was looking for to get good with the SA. Amazing and informative guide, showing everything the switch axe can do, and why we use specific moves/combos over others. I really hope you gain some traction and get a lot more views, into when MH Wilds comes out so your channel gets all the subs!
I truly appreciate that. I will try my best when Wilds releases as well!
@@MahnsterHunter Of course man! Just pump out all the videos you can every time something new is revealed, one of them has to blow up and get you the recognition you deserve!
I love the switch axe so powerful and easy to learn
great guide, you capture the moveset and playstyle of the weapon well
only things i would say are that invincible gambit can be useful on anomalies that give bloodblight, you can just tank hits and maintain aggression against moves that are ass to counter
also i wouldn't consider kaktus and ludroth swaxes as options, but i would add kushala swaxe to the ice list
I appreciate the feedback. When I listen back to the invincible gambit section, I think my bias crept into my description for it. As for the weapons, I stated them since their decoration slots for people who are either new to the weapon or seeking comfort since the slots can achieve more than their counterparts. I didn't feel good promoting Kushalaxe but I may have underestimated its base element value and sharpness at max aug slots. Something to keep in mind for later
I come from Iceborne and everything that is functional there, it doesn't work here haha I was stuck, I always got stuck in manual reloading and it was frustrating, now I understand it well and I have corrected the combos, Sunbreak has so many new abilities to enhance attacks, states that I feel overwhelmed, I guess it's a matter of time and experimentation, thank you very much for the detailed guide, have a great day!
Thank you very much! I hope it helped and I pray for your growth
THIS! I was so good at using SA in World, in Rise it's not fluid like World. The movement is so stiff and the monster is too wild.
@@PutraRhm Rise SA is objectively more fluid than World SA. It HAS to be due to the nature of Rise's much faster pace, especially come sunbreak. This is quantifiable and qualifiable, and therefore is not an opinion.
If you believe otherwise, your understanding is lacking.
What I suspect you are feeling is the lack of Rocksteady and Temporal mantles allowing player to effectively just shut their brains off and go full ungabunga.
As a vet to the series sunbreak reminded me of the mh4G with the extra added abilities on each weapon. The counter wire bug moves for swax and LS make the game EASY. Btw great sword counter strong arm 💪 stance really does alot of damage with the right build I was doing 3k+ with great sword. After 200 hours u left back to world because sunbreak felt old and world feels newer.
I'm going through MHRise Sunbreak and this is some huge help for anomaly quests because I suck at swaxe (tho I love the weapon)
It can be a little rough, but keep at it. Just remember to focus on popping those monster pimples!
me running compressed finishing discharge because it looks cool and never actually using it:
When I first unlocked it during base game, I would spam CFD and Switch Charger. It does look cool though!
best switch axe guide i've seen. but how should i set up my scrolls? i didnt really get that
Thanks! The scrolls gotta fit how you prefer to play. (Tangent incoming) I dont much like Forward Overhead Slash as axe isnt the focus and its use is the same as morphing from axe to sword while holding forward. Finishing Discharge will always be better for both damage and utility because of ZSD. Compressed Finishing Discharge just isnt good enough to compete. Axe wide sweep gets cleared by 2 stage morph slash. 2 stage grants switch gauge and can remove your need for Switch Charger.
Silkbind skills are constantly power creeping themselves but each has tbeir own uses. Invincible Gambit is for taking hits when necessary and it definitely has its uses. Soaring Wyvern Blade works better because it pairs with ZSD. Switch Charger and Elemental Burst Counter are both great in their own right so you can attach them to seperate scrolls. If you're good at meter management, you can keep EBC on both scrolls.
The way I set my scrolls up is red and blue are identical. Its a huge shame that the skills cannibalize themselves
1. Forward Slash
2. Finishing Discharge
3. 2 stage
4. Soaring Wyvern Blade
5. Elemental Burst Counter
Finishing discharge for ZSD spam paired with Soaring Wyvern for follow up damage and recovery. 2 stage for switch gauge management and amped state generation if monster is toppled/not focusing/attacking. EBC for counter and near permanent amped state uptime for prolonged ZSD + SWB spam
@@MahnsterHunter thanks for the detailed answer. it helped a lot
Realy great !
Personally nothing lowers my hunt times as much as EE2 on SA. I don't use EE at all on my other weapons, but for SA it's a game-changer.
Yeah evade extender used to be my go to in 4 onward but after a while of not using it I cant go back. Its still goated af though
you can also enter the sword: morph double slash loop via heavenward flurry
Did I forget to mention that? My b my b
I started with mhw and the first weapon I tried playing was the switch axe but I really didn't enjoy playing it but in rise it's so fun with the counter and soaring wyvern and stuff
I enjoy how free and mobile the weapon feels. No locked in stiffness or lack of morph spots
beestt video i have ever seen
Great video! Though I can't figure out why some combos like axe wide sweep into sword won't work in MHR. Is it the Sunbreak expansion?
You can still morph into sword from wide sweep. If you first played World, they made the attack automatic for some reason when it was always manual in 4 and Gen. All you gotta do is Wide Sweep > Attack 3 button(R2/RT/ZR)
@@MahnsterHunter I see. Then I guess it might be rapid morph lvl 3? I tried that combo with lvl 2 on Rise w/ Sunbreak expansion and it felt pretty cumbersome. I'll give it another try.
Ahhh if Rapid Morph is involved then yes, because the animation time is sped up, you lose a few frames on delay. You can either mash it so that it morphs instantly(shown by the animation where your hunter spins around), or wait until the attack is finished and then press(shown by the animation where your hunter performs the regular morph slash animation)
@@MahnsterHunter Okay makes sense. That's what I'll do then, thank you!
Correction: In the comment above, I meant without Sunbreak, not with. I thought it had to do with some changes in animations between the two versions.
Superb explanation! but do you have a Short Guide for mhr Base Game Players ;-; i only Play the Base Game No sun Break atm ;-; i used to Play dual Blades all the time and got bored (too much Button smashing and playing brain ded) and then i Pick Up the Switch Axe ITS great but im getting rekt by fast moving Monsters Like apex Diablos and apex zinogre. Ik i suk abit in swaxe😅 but swaxe is fun
I don't have a shorter guide or one for base Rise but I can give you advice here. For the most part, your movement, combos, and playstyle remain the same qith the exception of sunbreak only skills like 2 stage or elemental burst counter. You want to take pot shots at monsters, never attacks that leave you entirely vulnerable because you want to evade through attacks. Since you wont have access to the phial switch boost rampage decoration, you'll be using switch charger to offset the loss as well as its invulnerability frames to unofficially dodge attacks. It has i frames on the start up, so you can abuse that to spot dodge roars and the like. Whenever a monster goes down, you want to spam the morph double slash combo. If you have your amped state, you can zero sum discharge before they get up so that you can squeezs in a little more damage.
The game stays relatively the same. I have several speedruns from when I playedbase Rise as well as generic guides on my channel that could help you out as well!
Hello. Great videos. Recently started to play more switch axe, but I seem to keep on missing my soaring wyvern blade on the poke after ZSD. I tried to do the focus camera, but still didn't work. Is there something that you have to do?
The focus camera won't help, its all up to the direction you choose to go. When you're in the air, you can use Wyvern Blade in any direction you input, even behind you. You can also do wyvern blade immediately or prolong the activation to the point where you almost touch the ground.
If you want, you can practice this by going into the training room and using ZSD on the training dummy, when you blast off the monster, hold the control stick/keyboard in the direction you want to go before activating SWB.
If I had to guess, you're spamming the button to do it asap, which is dicey. Take half a second to a second to determine where to aim. Sometimes you'll need to wait longer as otherwise you'll overshoot the monster.
Thanks. Your Amatsu video is great.@@MahnsterHunter
Thanks. @@BigDBrian
Hi! Amazing and informative video. Going through the high rank with a friend (and time to time to farm up, solo). Trying to get a grip to when to or not to commit a combo/attack. Reason might be we just hit the high rank and monsters do different attack and combos which can be hard to predict. But after some time i am sure that i will manage to be a better player in rise. I would appreciate if you have any suggestions or tips that would help me (and my friend) before the master rank ^_^ Thank you!
Definitely so. In fact, I have an entire series dedicated to getting better at Monster Hunter on my channel and not just Sunbreak specifically but general information that can be applied to each game. Its called How to Actually Improve at Monster and you can find both series in my playlists.
Here's episode 1 of series 1: ruclips.net/video/MsXOXS9qChI/видео.htmlsi=7YkCImNImrMWyO9b
My best piece of advice is knowing the monster and your weapon. Openings arent always time to do big flashy attacks. Its ok to take your time and hunt the monster slowly or just let it attack while you dodge so that you can physically see what the monster can do without having to feel like you need to attack every second. Playing safe now helos you with becoming more risky, yet confident and secure in the future.
When it comes to comitting to an attack or combo string, you have to be aware of the monsters moves and combos. Things to consider: your distance to the monster affects the next move it uses, certain monster attacks/combos leave them vulnerable as they take time to recover and likewise for certain attacks you use.
Let's take Nargacuga for instance, certain attacks it does will see it pose for a moment, like its tail spin, while another will have it vulnerable for a brief window like its tail slam. If you successfully dodge the tail spin, you only have about 2 to 3 seconds to do an attack before preparing for what it does next depending on your distance. That means you have 2 to 3 seconds to get off am attack appropriate for that situation that doesnt leave you exposed so that you can get away or ready to dodge in the mean time. If you dodge the tail slam, it will have its tail stuck into the ground which nets a little bit more time. During this, you can maneuver what part you want to hit and have more time toset up or do a combo that would normally leave you open.
All of that is done repeatedly until you eventually knock the monster over which you can then get the highest amount of damage possible on a particular part. Once the monster gets back up, you go right back to playing safe with pot shots and taking advantage of its openings.
The moves you may be used to in high rank change when they get to master rank. That Narga tail slam in high rank will track you by slamming once and slamming again in the same animation. In master rank, it will slam its tail once before jumping in a 90 degree angle around you(while tracking) and slam again. You have to be wary of change ups. Once you get the hang of how monsters operate, you can start weaving in pot shots and evading or guarding as necessary. It'll all start to flow and make sense when you see a physical movement or hear an auditory cue a monster makes and your mind automatically understands what you should do next. Take it slow, no need to rush to greatness.
@@MahnsterHunter Thank you for your detailed reply, i will definately watch that playlist all the way to become a better hunter i can be. Just bookmarked the whole playlist. It is the one with 6 videos right? Appreciated, really. Wishing you a good day/night!

35:30 how do you put that blue Monster part Broke Option to see how many Parts You broke already ?
In Rise/Sunbreak, you can accept sub missions from the quest givers that allows you to complete tasks to earn kamura points and items. One of those missions is breaking parts
@@MahnsterHunter ohh So this option Won't be Visible if you Do Like a Anomaly investigation or A Urgent Quest ?
It will show up in any quest type so long as you manually accept the side quest from the hubs

You dont have to apologize, I'm happy to help out, fam. The part break notification will always pop up yellow and if you break an amomaly monsters part, it will show the yellow indicator with a red book in the right corner.
The blue indicator shows for any side mission you accept whether it br collecting herbs or hunting monsters just like at 0:00 when I pick up the spider. The next time you talk to Hinoa, Minoto, or Chich look in the menu for the tab that says optional objectives.
