Hey y'all. This is a pretty long, in depth tutorial, and it can be a bit of information overload if you're brand new to the series. Use the timestamps in description if you wish to navigate to specific information(or the chapters in video). If you're looking for a much quicker tutorial that gives you just enough information to get started with hammer in Monster Hunter Rise, I recommend KRRool's "5 Minute Hammer Guide"(I have no affiliation with KRRool, I simply think he made a good tutorial). Thank you for watching!
    Things I missed:
You only need focus lv2 in order for your lv2 courage hammer charge attack to insta charge.
Impact burst(the attack part, not the buff part) stun values are pretty good as long as all six hits connect(better than lv 2 charge, for example).
The hammer's upswing(both the lvl 2 charge and the golfswing) can send teammates flying in multiplayer. Just something to be
    mindful of.
When you cancel a spinning bludgeon: charge back into courage charge, if it's a level 1 or 2 charge, it will be a fully charged
level 1 or 2(with the additional hit). Additionally, immediately after performing a spinning bludgeon: charge
cancel into courage, you can also quickly perform a dodge to maintain your charge, much like how you can do so when going from one
charge level to the next in courage charge.
Your level 1 and 2 charge attacks will cover more distance in the direction you hold the analog stick, as opposed to performing them without analog input. Helps close the gap between you and the monster, this is especially true for strength hammer.
In strength charge, your level 2 charge(upswing) has a better vertical hitbox than in yellow or courage.

It's a godsend for hammer. I use that and lvl 2 focus and I'm always on the aggressive against the monster. Just a tip: after you perform a level 3 charge attack (step smash), if you see the monster is about to attack, use sway instead of charging your hammer again. There's a bit of a delay to use it while you're prepping your hammer for another charge.

This is a great video! I learned a lot of things i didnt know before on hammer! Ive mainly played courage in Sunbreak thanks to the buffs it got and i thought I would mention two things about spinning bludgeon charge and courage.
Like you said, During spinning bludgeon charge, you can cancel it at anytime with a to switch to blue and depending on when you switch you get a lv 1, 2, or 3 charge. Its the same for courage but it will always be the max charge no matter when you switch. So you can switch back to blue after one hit and go into a maxed lv 1 hit, then max 2 then max 3 or throw in a impact crater immediately at any one of those points.
Also small thing, you mentioned that courage hammer can do a roll right after charging the hammer to the next lv and it will keep that charge during that roll. when you swap after spinning bludgeon charge in courage, you can get a quick roll in and still keep the charge for whatever charge you swapped to. Really nice for repositioning or if you have evade extender so that you can get back to the head after a swap without losing the charge.
Sorry for the info dump, thanks for the indeph video! Lets go Hammer bros!

  • @YodasMessenger

This is so comprehensive and so nicely explained, i loved it.
I've been in a pretty consistent on/off will they/wont they relationship with the Hammer ever since Tri and gave it a somewhat fair shot in pretty much every game since. It always felt satisfying but also like there was something missing. Sunbreaks new additions really feel like they allow you to roll with the punches a lot more, plus having dedicated ways to directly interact with the monsters attacks seems like it might be just the thing that will get me to dig my teeth into it to the extent i did with LS, IG and Lance. Also in part because after this video i feel like i have a very solid grip on what my options are, when to use them and what strengths and weaknesses they have, thanks to you sir.
One little suggestion i have to make these videos even easier and more comfortable to understand would be to always show the switch skill tree when youre announcing the next move to be covered while hovering over its place with your cursor so its absolutely crystal clear what you can exchange for what in your moveset. I personally find myself getting confused by that more than ever in Sunbreak with the crazy amount of options at your disposal. That being said, please understand this is nitpicking to an absurd degree and you did a marvelous job at breaking this weapon down for all of us apprentice hammer bros.
    Much love

Played hammer since Freedom 2 and I have always loved the simple play pattern of holding charge and waiting for the right moment. As soon as I started playing Courage hammer I realized just how much they have added to my favorite weapon. I am now a combo heavy machine that can parry dangerous attacks, as well as run elemental builds. I hadn't realized how stale the weapon had started to feel but all the tools in Sunbreak have been such an amazing breath of fresh air. Hammer bro for life.

Same mate. I really got into mh with freedom 2, and hammer was the weapon I chose and stuck with. Throughout the series I've played the other weapons a bunch, but hammer was always my most played across all the games. I was actually considering maining a different weapon in sunbreak but all the new moves, and the balance tweaks pulled me back in, and I'm glad they did, because I didn't feel good about the idea of flat out dropping the weapon. Other than getting 1 tail cut, I haven't touched other weapons yet in sunbreak, I'm having way too much fun with hammer.

I used to main hammer in the 3DS days but sort of neglected it since world, so the 'blue charge' was sort of foreign to me and I was a bit too risky and dumb with it anyway. This is a fantastic guide, thank you for sharing it. I think anyone watching this can tell that you've been playing Hammer for a long time and really understand the weapon. So many people, even those who've played Hammer for a little while (I'm including myself in this group) just unga-bunga with the same three attacks on repeat, and feel a little bored or frustrated with what seems like far less options compared to the other weapons, but this video does a really good job of showing that there's a complexity to Hammer play that's not immediately obvious.
Also, your production value and showcasing of each of the things you're talking about are incredible for the amount of subs you have. I've seen people with 10k+ subs on RUclips put out videos that look like potatoes compared to this.
Keep up the good work, I'm sure your sub numbers will Rise (not sorry for the pun) with more videos like this.

I don't really know why I watched this(I play every weapon a ton and already knew almost all of the information provided) but it is by far the best weapon guide I've seen, even with the mistakes you corrected in the pinned comment. I think something that a lot of guides miss is that people aren't going to retain the information provided if you don't put it in context. I like that you briefly gave scenarios in which each attack is useful/not useful and took the time to actually show some of the slightly obscure combo chains like being able to level2 charge after most attacks in courage. Also formatting the video to cover each individual move in their own sections is great for players who want to use this as a quick reference, I would have loved if people had done this when I was still learning and looking at guides.
I don't know if you play much of the other weapons but I'd love to see more of these guides if you do.

This was just what I needed! I always only had hammer as a fun pocket pick and didn't fully commit to it. It was always really fun, but I was too nervous about getting KOs so I never committed. In Sunbreak though, it finally clicked and I went from playing GL and IG to almost exclusively Hammer, specifically Courage Hammer. It's SO satisfying, even when I didn't know the nuances of the weapon (that I now know thanks to this video). The Spinning Bludgeon Charge in particular still kind of makes my head spin. From the ingame description, I thought I had to press A to initiate it and it was weird. I even had to rewind the video a bunch for the explanation. The move is weird, but it seems like an interesting option (especially because I avoid the regular spinning attack anyway)
I absolutely feel that last bit about slopes though. Just last week end, I had a Barioth camping near an area transition and I kept sliding and sliding. It was pretty annoying. And also carted me once. I kind of hoped there was a trick to it when I clicked on this tutorial, but I guess not.

    • @florbromh
      @florbromh  2 года назад +1

In case you're still unsure, the easiest way to understand spinning bludgeon charge is just:(in Yellow charge) fully charge your hammer, release and immediately hold zr again to keep charging your hammer mid attack, and then press A when you wish to switch back to blue charge. It is one of those ones that can get a bit confusing.
I'm sorry that I don't have a proper solution other than moving away regarding the slopes. That does the trick in solo pay but in multiplayer you just have to be patient and careful.

    • @justsomejojo
      @justsomejojo 2 года назад

Don't apologize, it's fine! Now I know that I'm not missing some really important cancel tech and that's more than enough for me. Learning to watch out for it is something I can do.
I was just testing the spinning charge on a Rathian and I think I love it, now that I get it. I didn't understand that it was charge-release-charge-mode switch, even though that's pretty much what the text says. But it's actually awesome. I always avoided the spin (and the yellow Lv3 charge) as it felt like sort of dead end move outside of switching to it for Impact Crater. Now that it circles back to blue I find myself playing the modes much more in tandem rather than stick to blue all the time. Plus, it's awesome for dodging.
      Thank you!

Been maining Hammer since I started in 3U. Somehow didnt know some of this stuff, specifically the spinning bludgeon cutting off parts of the big bang combo, thats kinda busted. Its definitely crazy how different Hammer was in Rise let alone Sunbreak and I'm happy to see someone make a video confirming most of my assumptions of what I've found abt the weapon for the expansion. Didnt know about quite a few of the things for Courage as I didnt mess around with it too much, but ive been using it because of the charged bludgeon attack and it synergize well, so good to know how I can use it more efficiently. Even though I highly doubt anyone uses side smash at all after figuring out water strike, I believe you missed in the video that although side smash isnt as strong as the first move in the golf swing combo it actually has higher stun damage. This of course leads to it being easier to get that stun damage off after hitting some of the charge attacks since its so fast. Traditionally this is how I personally got stuns really fast in old games and it still does seem to be efficient in small windows still if someone may not want to use water strike. Good video tho, cant wait to watch ur other hammer content!
