    Reinz and Elring now supplies the seal with plastic cap that imitates the tool and keeps the lip reversed. Only thing that you will need to do is the same as for the special tool - lube the center shaft really well so the inner lip of the seal slides easily and correctly.

    I recently replaced this seal when replacing the clutch pulley. This job requires three special tools, like you mentioned in another video. 1) you definitely need the tool to install this oil seal. 2) the clutch pulley install/removal tool and 3) the a/c compressor alignment bracket (2010 S80 3.2). I would recommend doing this job when doing the 150k mile service. It's only one extra bracket to access the clutch pulley and seal. Chances are the clutch pulley has already failed spinning in reverse direction. Also, to remove the oil seal, I drilled a small hole in one side and pried the seal out with a small hooked pry tool.

    I used a strip of thin plastic film (cut from cat's pouch) to create a sleeve to slide the seal on the shaft. The alignment tools were in an aftermarket timing toolkit already.

    Quick question I recently picked up an 08 LR2 needs a head gasket I'm pretty sure. My main question is when do you write the engine off. At what point is it Not worth fixing. And dropping in another engine. It's got 175k on it with low to no maintenance. My guess is either the fan had issues and caused it to overheat and or a hose started leaking ran low on coolant and caused the to overheat . The oil in the coolant aren't mixing but number three cylinder is wet with coolant or water at this point, and number five coil pack is covered exhaust carbon buildup

    Nice video. I’m about to do the major service on a 2015 xc70 t6, including replacing this seal with the special tool. One question: Should I put the seal in dry, both interior and outer surfaces? My plan is dry unless VIDA and Volvo (and you) recommend otherwise. Thanks. Great channel.

    When sitting in my 2010 S80 3.2 w/170k of tender well maintained miles with radio off; engine running in park; climate fan off - I hear what sounds like a faint knocking sound. When I rev the engine to 1200 rpms and 2000 rpms, the sound also moves with the rpms. When a/c is on, I cannot here it from inside/out the cabin due to the engine fans running. I due run 87 octane but I cannot believe it is that since the knock sensor should correct for that (which is more of a pinging noise). This is more of a deeper knock sound. When climate fan is off so is the engine cooling fan. Since I have replaced the thermostat housing, I cannot here the engine fan kick on (w/ ac off) when engine temp hits 210 to 212 degrees. But, I do see the engine temp drop down to 208 every time. Also, I think it is just starting to use a little oil. I barely make it to the 4000 mile oil change and my oil is down by a half quart. Again, I cannot here any knocking sounds from outside the car. Just hear the injectors. Any thoughts on the knocking sound?

    • @TheVolvoGuy
      @TheVolvoGuy  Год назад

      On the knocking, I would have to hear it. And as far as oil burning half of Qt every 5k miles is nothing that is 100% normal.

    Hi VolvoGuy. Thank you for sharing this information with us. I have a 2015 XC60 with the T6 3.0 liter engine; 107k miles. At fist I heard some sort of grinding noise coming from the belt area. The belt operation has been visually smooth; no shaking, jolting, etc. Now an oil leak developed and it gets splashed against the inside of the engine cover. Some burned rubber smell is present after long drives. My guess is that the seal is getting damaged. Replacing the seal and the pulley is something I could do but I need your advice on whether it is worth it. What is the most likely cause of the seal getting damaged? Could a bad READ pulley cause it or is a bad bearing inside the READ the cause? Looking forward to your reply.

    • @TheVolvoGuy
      @TheVolvoGuy  Год назад

      Normally, we see the belt tensioner pully bearing go and cause this as far as the oil leak, make sure it is not coming from the brake vacuum pump.

    Hey Volvo Guy, I have a question about the belt tensioner and I can't find the answer on the Internet. My question is I had my serpentine belt replaced and the mechanic said that I should also replace the belt tensioner. Well I forgot about it, now sometimes when I start the car there is a loud whirring sound (terrible). Anyways, I'm not sure if I should replace just the pulley or is something else in that area that could also be causing the belt to scream loudly? Seems like my mechanic charges me 400.00 to change the serpentine belt.(ouch!)
    Thank you in advance.

      Hey, so start your engine and when it starts making the noise pull the dipstick out and see if the noise goes away and let me know.

      @@TheVolvoGuy YOU ARE THE BEST! WOW, I knew you would respond quickly. Thank you. It's night time now and it didn't make the noise today when I started this morning. But in the morning I'll start it up. Most definitely will try this. I think it happens when I don't drive it for a couple of days.

    • @TheVolvoGuy
      @TheVolvoGuy  4 года назад

      Once the noise comes back pull the dipstick out and let me know. The PCV box makes noise exactly similar to drive belt noise when you pull the dipstick out it goes away. In that case you have to replace the PCV box.

    • @TheVolvoGuy
      @TheVolvoGuy  4 года назад

      I see so try to record the noise so I can listen to it it could be the water pump bearing or it could be the belt tensioner or the idler pulley.
