I personally think this is one of the most beautiful boards I have seen. Maybe the design is not as complex as some others but I believe this is why it is so beautiful.
Thank you for posting, it inspired me to build one, I used purple heart for the squares, canary wood for the longer pieces and for the skinny I used tropical walnut. It came out beautiful just like the one you did.
Just attempted this board. Came out decent.. only issue is inconsistencies between cuts - too much play on my crosscut sled. Also, to make sure my final pieces are all the same depth!
I absolutely love this, and the board turned out beautiful. I guess patterns like this look nice--and remind me of apple pie! Great tutorial, and I'm so glad that you measured in mm, as the majority of the world uses metric. :)
Loved the video but am just starting to make these and I would have liked to see a bit more on exact measure.ents of wood needed and begin milling instead of music at the start. Thanks.
How has this held up? With the end grain to face grain glue up, I can foresee problems with the wood expanding and contracting in different directions. That being said, I just built one like this and am con about durability. Most basketweave boards are endgrain, which will be my next one.
The huge, HUGE problem is: this guy makes it look so straightforward and easy. Then my dumb ass goes out to the garage and end up burning down my table saw! lolololol :)
hi Melissa. maybe you can help me. I have a good pile of off cuts and want to make a board. all different thicknesses. can you mix edge grain and face grain?
Great video! Hey, are all of these pieces oriented for "face grain" or is some of it end-grain? was not 100% sure, but looked like it was all face grain, since your cuts for final glue-up were varying lengths (while, for end-grain they'd have to all be the thickness of the board). Thanks!!
Cool friend very good your work... friend lives in Brazil and in my region does not have these projects. could you please help me Where can I get the program any link that I can do the course for these projects. Thanks in advance
Very nice work. Instead of keeping the video superfast avoid multiple repeat of the process and record the video in a way a layman can enjoy and understand the whole process.
I have not made a cutting board yet. Thinking of giving it a try. Folks, what is, in your opinion, the best coating or sealer for a cutting board? Thanks.
Mineral oil is good, just always make sure it is food grade. The beeswax based cutting board conditioner is great for a little more protection and for re finishing the board every now and then.
Not all mineral oil is food grade. There are some kinds designed to be used as a lubricant for metal, these aren't food safe. Most mineral oil may be food safe, but it's always better to double check. Have fun on that board!
Hi I’m trying to do this my self and I’m just wondering what’s the dimensions for the mahogany squares I tried figuring it out but I’m having trouble with all the dimensions
Hi, The audio in the beginning was somehow lost but the missing audio is provided in the video description. Between those dimensions and the ones provided in the video you should have all the dimensions. Hope this helps!
i like the video but i have concern for your fingers, when you used the table sled the whole saw was moving back and forth and your laize faire router use are both finger oopsies...
Thanks! Here are Amazon affiliate links for the mineral oil and cutting board conditioner I use. mineral oil: amzn.to/2RSjEmk cutting board conditioner: amzn.to/3brIUH0 Thanks again for watching!
Hallo !
Very nice job . I would like to make one but in the beginning of the video I do not know the width of the wood you are ripping.can you please let me know thank you very much.
Thanks! When uploading the video, the audio got messed up on the first section. What was said, including the dimensions for the first steps are listed in the video description. Sorry about the confusion. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!
I do just one glue because even though it's a lot to do, it makes it easier to get everything lined up right. As for the sled verse miter saw, the sled allows me to make the same cut over and over quicker, and more accurately than the miter. Hope this helps!
Thanks! Sorry I don't have anything I'm able to share right now. Maybe some point in the future I'll be able to put something like that together. All the dimensions are mentioned in the video, with some in the description, so hopefully you'll be able to figure it out from there. Good luck, and thanks for watching!
Thanks! Personally I don't think the end grain glue up will give out because it's glued on so many different sides, including the edge grain, which is supposedly just as strong as if there wasn't a joint. As long as treated properly, it should hold up perfectly fine. Hope this helps!
Gluing end grain to face grain will most definitely fail at some point. End grain moves too much to be glued to face grain. It almost always fails at that point.
Yes, It worries me alot to give away as presents and have it fail later. I went to end-grain boards exclusively. Also, end grains offer many other reasons to consider.
Exactly my concern. The board is beautiful, but I can't imagine end to face grain joints not to break. Pinterest and RUclips is full of these beautiful original boards with various cross sections, dividers, etc. and I'm always wondering how these boards look like after 6 months uf use.
Yes that is true, the face grain of the board will wear quicker than say an end grain board. One like this is meant more for lighter cutting and will still hold up fairly well.
I'm not sure of the exact amount of hours, but it took 3 days working on it off and on. It would have been finished quicker, but you have to wait for the glue to dry thoroughly before moving on to other steps.
Would love to duplicate this. Unfortunately, the first 52 seconds of verbal explanation have been replaced by music only, so no idea of cutting dimensions.
Would it be possible to download plans? This is the most beautiful thing of this kind that I have ever seen, and being a newbie to woodworking I would love to try and duplicate it
Thanks so much! Sorry, I don't have any plans for download. I hope you can figure it out from the information provided in the video. All the best on your woodworking adventure!
Yes, That is the total length of wood you will need at that width to have enough to cut up for the board plus a little extra. It doesn't need to be in one board. Hope this helps.

Thank you! Sounds like a very pretty board!
Purple heart will fade to a dirty brown.
Love the design of this one 👌
Thank you!
Just made this. Your video made it so easy. Thank you
That's great, Glad it helped!
Try alternating your clamps. Put half on top and half on opposite side to prevent warping during glue up. Nice piece.
Wow... One of the most beautiful cutting boards I've ever seen.
Beautiful...
Thanks!
I made that exact board only its 33x45 centimeters - love it
Nice job. We need another cutting board. Getting busy tomorrow.
Good luck!
Beautiful piece ...... Thanks for sharing the video ..
Nice piece and I appreciate the detailed info. I added it to my to do list
Glad it was helpful, hope it goes well!
Sweet. Well done.
A nice slick cutting board. Great stuff!
Thanks!
A true craftsman/artist. Inspiring piece of woodworking. My compliments on a great video as well as sharing your art with all of us.
Thank you very much!
Well I guess that might be a little better than the one I made in high school.
This is beautiful! And a well done video too. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
It turned out to be a good decorative board. The fibers are directed along and should be across.
What do you mean
Just attempted this board. Came out decent.. only issue is inconsistencies between cuts - too much play on my crosscut sled. Also, to make sure my final pieces are all the same depth!
The work was excellent. The richness of the details makes the difference. Congratulations!
Thank you Marcus 🇧🇷
Thank you very much!
I'm impressed. Must have been tedious at times.
Impressive!
Thank you for this video king 👑
GREAT PATTERN, SIMPLE AND VERY NICE
Thanks!
Looks great, relatively simple and makes a great gift .
Thankyou!
That’s perfect. I'll try to copy it in my home turning workshop. Thank you for your idea.
Glad you liked it! Hope it goes well.
Brother as someone who has a degree in wood, fantastic work brother 🙏🙏🙏🤙😃
Thank you, I appreciate it!
A "degree in wood?"
In that case I'd better mention my degree in skepicism
Muito bom, esse trabalho 👏☺️😃 parabéns 👏
This is so cool
Well done young man.
Thanks!
Great job! I imagine you had to work fast when it came to glueing and assembly. You looked very organized. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. It really does helps to have everything you need laid out when doing a glue up like that.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Wonderful work! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏆
Thanks!
Beautiful work,.
Thank you!
That looks amazing. Might have to give this a go myself
Good luck!
Your video is amazing, how long do you leave the cutting board soaking in the mineral oil?
Nice job! I learned a lot! Thanks.

Fantastic...

It's still holding up fine so far!
That is amazing.

Beautiful. How long did you soak it in the mineral oil and what bee’s wax product did you apply afterwards? Thank you.
I let it sit for a couple of minutes. He products used to finish the board are linked in the video description .
The huge, HUGE problem is: this guy makes it look so straightforward and easy.
Then my dumb ass goes out to the garage and end up burning down my table saw!
lolololol :)
Beautiful build. I prefer my cutting boards to be 1-1/2” thick.
Why? just curious
@@davidlamb9154 I would assume because it makes the board more stable. more glue area = less chance of cracks and warps developing.
From the very first cut with the saw, you can see that it is blunt and that it burns the cut. Sharpen!
Hermoso!!!quisiera saber donde pones la pieza al final,es aceite, resina...gracias!!!
Gracias! Puse el tablero en aceite mineral.
This pretty... but I don't see it holding up over time. Cross-grain and long-grain are going to move in opposite directions and pull apart.
Came here from TikTok btw
A beautiful board! Good luck!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Really beautiful!!!
Thank you!
Looks great! I think if you spread your glue evenly it might help with less gaps. Enjoys!
hi Melissa. maybe you can help me. I have a good pile of off cuts and want to make a board. all different thicknesses. can you mix edge grain and face grain?
super tare
Very nice work
Thanks!
Was wondering how thick the boards are before you start milling. Couldn't see it in the description. Looks like it might be 3/4 inch
The boards were 4/4 lumber which measure roughly 15/16ths of an inch.
Great video! Hey, are all of these pieces oriented for "face grain" or is some of it end-grain? was not 100% sure, but looked like it was all face grain, since your cuts for final glue-up were varying lengths (while, for end-grain they'd have to all be the thickness of the board). Thanks!!
It is all face grain!
C’est un travail superbement bien réaliser bravo 👍👍👏👏
Merci!
Im amazed they dont have ariving knife on the saw to stop kickbacks " crazy "
It's an old saw, before riving knives became a standard feature. Definitely plan to upgrade that in the future.
Very beautiful 😍😍
Thank you!
Hey man is that a thin kerf Diablo saw blade

How many different kinds of wood do you use ? You do not tell how long each piece needs to be.
Do you have plans or dimensions for to make this ?
Sorry, I don't have any written plans.
Why didn't you do multiple glue-ups, instead of one at a time? Also, is there an advantage to using the sled versus using a chop saw?
I do just one glue because even though it's a lot to do, it makes it easier to get everything lined up right. As for the sled verse miter saw, the sled allows me to make the same cut over and over quicker, and more accurately than the miter. Hope this helps!

@@CalebsFineWoodworking I was thinking things like fruit or cheese.
Long grain glued to end grain?!?!
hi there excellent job question what cain of oil of water is in the bucket ????
