Outstanding video Evan, great job! Kudos to TeamZ for stepping up and making it possible for a backyard/garage swap. A 600hp n/a small block will certainly grab some attention
For what it's worth - I'm not really a "brand guy" or a purist, but I mostly work with chevy power in part because it cost less to get horsepower out of them, but the Godzilla is an excellent choice for a swap. My current project is a Fox / LS for the strip, but if I was building for the street? I'd want the Godzilla just for the low end torque if nothing else. It shares a lot of features with the LS that made the LS great. I love that style mounting to the K member too, its like the AJE LS swap member instead of having pads to use factory rubber mounts with an adapter. It's the one thing I dislike about the UPR K member. The reason I'm going with the UPR is because it comes in a kit with the front suspension stuff, and all chromoly. Team Z has it in chromoly too, but the kit is different, and that one is a pad mount - or no pads, and use motor and mid plates - which I'm not doing in the near future...
@@johnparrish9215 yeah......if the heads go 300 cfm plus on the intake with at least a 75% intake to exhaust flow relationship at .600" lift and under, then it's a winner. Robert Elmo that doesn’t make the swap easier though, the coyote still fits and can be lowered from the top into the engine bay. The hard part of these motor swaps is the wiring and hooking up all your accessories. When the Godzilla has everything aftermarket for swaps that the coyote has they both will be identical. Not to mention you have to get a 3 inch cowl hood because of the way the intake curves up so much on the Godzilla.

I like Brian's thinking, "keep a Ford in a Ford"! I would love to sit around and pick his brain and your's too! Great video, a new dimension in hot rodding ! 🤺
They could probably do well if they came up with a swap kit to put this engine into Crown Vic. The torque of this motor would work great to get that heavy car moving.
313dieselguy he says in the video it’s a small block based on the bore spacing. I’ve also heard it referred to as a small block multiple times in many different videos by experts on the motor. It’s a tall deck small block with a relatively big 4.22” bore and long stroke which makes it a big cubic inch small block, not a wide bore spaced big block.
I was on the program for the engine before anyone knew it was coming. Between the valve placement and everything else it's a big block. I had a disagreement 2 years ago similar to this except I was told ford would never make a push rod v8 again. And as I told him not only are they going to but it's a 7.3 gasser. The 7.3 Godzilla is a bigblock.
313dieselguy not trying to argue with you. If you were involved in the development, then you obviously know more about it than me and most others here. That being said it seems there must be a disagreement amongst Ford experts because I’ve seen other Ford engineers call it a small block. Real question, for most people what defines big vs small block? I would have said bore spacing and total displacement potential, but that may not be the case. What is Godzilla’s bore spacing? Anyway, thanks for the info.
@@paullane7489 yes bore spacing is part of it but stroke, bore , the way the valves are positioned. CID has nothing to do with bigblock small block because I can take a 351w and make it a 427 and it's still a small block. As for the engineers, I hate them, then know what looks good and works on paper but most of them never put there hands on that part when it comes to installing or even what makes there part work. They know there part works but dont know the parts before it that make it work. The bore and stroke on the 7.3 is at the low end of a bigblock but it is still a bigblock. If you wanted to go by actual size the 7.3 is only a lil smaller then a 460. But the funny part is a 4.6 is actually bigger then a 460 in actual size.
Be great if there is a crate engine and a standalone wiring harness available. I was hoping one of our terrible drivers around here would have wrecked one in the snow last week and i'd get an engine cheap but there is still the wiring issue. A bigger cam and better intake should bump the power a bunch.

At 445 cu in (7.3 liters), some racing organizations have lower limits on small block sizes. For example Hot Rod Drag Week (not a true competition, more for bragging rights), their cut off is 430 cu in for the dividing line between small block and big block. a lot depends on racing organization rules for where this would actually fall on the SB/BB classifications

Just with an off the shelf mild cam and different intake it makes 600hp+. With a very aggressive cam, good headers, etc it's very close to 700hp. If you go crazy and add compression and really good head work your then your in the 800hp area. Shit my little 427 makes 647hp with a hydraulic roller with under 11.1 comp on pumped 93. I'm a ford guy but 1500.00 for a complete LS Swap 500+ all motor vs 8K+ for a new ford just to be limited by mods... I just wish they would make more stuff for the 6.2L Raptor. I'm looking for a carb intake for that now while I have my Holley sniper kit in my SN95
Epic. Considering cam/tune and headers puts down almost 600hp crank. 👌🏼
Very cool. Looking forward to seeing these go down the track.
Killer content Evan. Dave and Team Z have built my LX and they’re at the top of the game. Glad Brian is getting the ball rolling with some love for the 7.3. Killer potential for big inch pushrod Ford fans!
Thank you.
Outstanding video Evan, great job! Kudos to TeamZ for stepping up and making it possible for a backyard/garage swap. A 600hp n/a small block will certainly grab some attention
Thank you.
This 445” Thunderjet small block is going to hurt some feelings!
I'm not making any predictions until I've seen the head ports and specs.
John Parrish no it’s not. It’s a rv motor
@@johnparrish9215 yeah......if the heads go 300 cfm plus on the intake with at least a 75% intake to exhaust flow relationship at .600" lift and under, then it's a winner. Ford has had a bad habit for decades with weak exhaust ports. Just seeing a cam only 7.3 break 80hp/liter would be awesome.
How much for a crate package?
Brother Django Dakota that’s my personal question, is how much these engines will cost
SoCalBronco70 Back in the day RV’s came with big block Chevy’s and big block Ford’s and big block Mopar’s, and people now and days will take RV motors out, put speed parts on them and make them fast
As a GM guy... That's a damn nice Ford motor.
This is what we’ve all been wanting to see.
This is great! I’m so happy someone is already doing it, this will help the aftermarket get the ball rolling. I hope the do this build in steps, like bolt ons (run it/dyno), cam it (run it/dyno) then boost it
The new 7.3 is an absolute monster, super strong and flow some serious numbers. I hope Ford keeps this engine around for a long time so the price comes down cause they are not cheap.
Yea Brian , your definitely not the only one that loves the notchback ( LX COUPE ) . I really love'm to . Was very heavily involved down here in Miami Fla . Would build'm and race'm . Got cancer . Been outta of it for 10 yrs . There's not a day that goes by it doesn't pop in my mind . Truly miss it .
I'm so glad I found this channel! You're a real Ford channel! I'm so siked for this 7.3L in my Lightning. It will have this engine in it someday!
Don't know what year your Lightning is, but this engine would be bad ass in a first gen.
Or get a Barra.. turbo ones have reached 2200hp
Yes i am thinking about building one for my lightning also 🏁🤔👍
Nathan McDonald yup! 94! I already swapped in a TKO600 manual transmission!
@@MikeVieira hell yea u got the right idea bro. Manual all day.
Ford needs to make this a crate motor with ecm and a wilder cam .
Almost guaranteed to happen. I would be shocked if not.
This is coming from a Chev guy. I’m glad Ford come out with little beast. Bout time. But I sincerely hope the cost will be reasonable. One big reason why I’ve stuck with GM platforms. Always has been cheaper and easier to build and get parts. Good for the blue Oval guys.
Not gonna happen
This is ford we're talking about... I don't it's going to happen
Jason’s Fun will be awesome if the 8.0 gm motor comes out too. Would be more cool than an LS. Long live the big block
3 LEGENDS!
Thank you Tom.
Thank you Tom.
This engine has a Huge potential! I am looking into installing one in my 1998 Lincoln Mark viii CE! Can't wait to hear what power improvements guys are getting with some basic upgrades.
This didn't take long lol
I hope it's a beast.
What a game changer....it appears as if its going to be a lot less complicated than a Coyote swap too.
Now....what's the cost 🤔
Going to be high for a bit until enough trucks get out there and get wrecked!
This swap won’t be any easier then a coyote swap. Especially since ford doesn’t have a swap specific ECU available for it yet.
I disagree, there is so much more room in that bay.
An bolting up the headers, doing something with the power steering where there is no room, I see what you are saying but it looks easier to me.
I sold that white notch to Dave like 4 years ago lmao. I use to work for him, he hates me now but I'm glad it's getting a badass swap!
Lol why does he hate you?
I may be wrong but per the name I'd say weed is a factor....lol

Team Z is the best of the best!!! Period
Personally I’d like to see this complete I’m interested how she’ll look afterwards
Team Z got no chill with the Godzilla. I like that.
And people said they wouldn't do it that it was a torquey truck engine, we'll suckas there it is in all its bad-assness!
LMFAO get your ass tore out by a coyote swap foxbody
billy heaton yep, that pike redlines at 5500
SoCalBronco70 so do most LS’s that EVERYONE swaps into and ruins mustangs
Stock 460s were fast in the foxbodys can't wait to see this 445 run. I think there's alot of power left in the tune too look at the wavey torque line on tfl channel Dyno run from the computer limiting torque , plus its variable cam timing should be able to make it lope and rev out a lil more.
Joe Nobody and the addition of e85. Also less drivetrain loss going from truck to car. Gonna be something to see for sure.
Great info guys Tks. I have a 20 f250 KR 7.3 tremor 4.30 axles coming in about a week ordered late November ,, my 17 SD 6.7 has been perfect. 6.2 Raptor before that, lm loosing trq, but gaining the roaring v8 back, we'll see. 🇺🇸
This makes me feel tingly. i want it
Holy heck, I would love love love that setup. I just watched the NA 780HP engine build and the engine is a beast.
Can’t wait to see uncorked performance of this engine. Ford really made a stout engine and I’m sure it’s grossly underrated for severe long duty and abuse.
Big fan for nearly 20yrs of your work at MM&FF Evan. I got start in 2001 with a 1992 Crown Vic LX 4.6L 2v at 18yrs old it was my first car and I got into the magazine to learn and dream. It was 2007 before I could afford to buy and insure a 2005 4.6 3V 5M Mustang GT. Had 7 4.6L 2V vehicles, 2 4.6 3Vs, 2 Coyote 5.0s and a 6.2L F250. Switched in 2014 to GM LS stuff because I was dreaming of owning full size V8 rwd Australian muscle cars since 1996. Would have bought a Falcon...have a '13 Caprice PPV, '16 Chevy SS and '04 GT0 6M.
Awesome vid Revan, thanks!!
You're welcome.
nice job Evan-cool stuff
Forget the Fox body , I want one for my 66 F100 !!!
We need an update man! I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we're all dying for an update
Make ford racing great again 😅😂
Ford does need to offer more of the modern engines for swaps

Can’t wait to see this car finished. 👍🏻
We are going to see a lot more of these 7.3 installations just because of the strength built into this engine and how much long term durability and power it going to have.
I have a lot of Team Z fab parts on my car, great shop! Please keep posting updates on this swap, Def. need to develop an intake, preferably a 4150 style for fuel injection!
Maybe a affordable option many many many years from now. But as of now you can get a 5.3,6.0,6.2 ls and make 1000hp for around a 1/3 of the price of that 7.3 stock. Just engine. Not with transmission or swap kit. Not to mention all the upgrades parts to get it over the 390 whp that engine may make. Ls will continue to rule till ford and there aftermarket can get there prices down to around affordable.
I have an 8.1 liter vortec 496 2005 truck motor in my vette. The intakes from the Chevy and ford look similar. My vortec 8.1 has an LS style design, firing order with cathedral heads. Made 600hp at 5500rpm, 630 torque at 3900 rpm. That's a mild cam with headers at 9.6:1 compression
Look we need to test the 3 gen Broncos as well I'll donate mine as long as I can help test it for durability, tell me where to bring it
Forget the mustang clan. Us vicky guys are going to love the 7.3.
New take on the old 460 swap kit ....
460 a Big Block. 445 a small block i guess
I've been waiting to see one of these swaps!
All hail the new King of the Streets!
Revevan that's killa.
I can't wait to get my hands on one by the end of this year 2020.
I'm in the middle of a dart shp block with billet main caps 351w 427w build with Molnar forged crank, Molnar forged rods and weisco pistons with a set of trick flow hi port heads etc.
That will be my next engine lol
I wonder if Comp Cams will make some aggressive camshafts for it.
I wonder what the cam journal sizes will be on that 7.3 Godzilla engine.
I wonder if they went with a Windsor step down journal set up or a straight thru 50mm etc on that engine.
I'm really excited to see what they do with this engine 💡
The cam has 60 mm bearings, I believe Comp will offer cams.
Brian Wolfe they are right by me in Memphis TN.
I can't wait to see what y'all do with this build..
Look forward to the upcoming videos
I like Brian's thinking, "keep a Ford in a Ford"! I would love to sit around and pick his brain and your's too! Great video, a new dimension in hot rodding ! 🤺
They could probably do well if they came up with a swap kit to put this engine into Crown Vic. The torque of this motor would work great to get that heavy car moving.
..........but why. Nobody cares about Crown Vics except ghetto blasters who want to fit 24" wheels on them.
@@Zer0TX that's the fun in it, because it would be a nice sleeper
I like crown vics... to hell with 24s... give me a nice set of bullitt wheels instead
Right or any Ford Panther car as a matter of fact it would be a great swap for an old Ford Galaxie or even in an old school Lincoln Continental.
@@CJColvin I'd love to have one of these in my 1971 Torino.
I like what Dave is doing, I hope he sells a ton of swap kits.
Super Duty Mustang 💪
I'm glad ford came back out I with a good pushrod engine
WOW, TO SWEET. PS. I didn't realize the 7.3 was a small block.
It's not, it's a bigblock.
Dayum..
A Foxzilla!?
GOOSEBUMPS!!

Cons: 👮♂️👮♀️🚓🚔
Be great if there is a crate engine and a standalone wiring harness available. I was hoping one of our terrible drivers around here would have wrecked one in the snow last week and i'd get an engine cheap but there is still the wiring issue. A bigger cam and better intake should bump the power a bunch.
They say good things come to those who wait, and i am so glad ford finely made a ls killer when i get the money thats whats going in my 95 thunderbird lx ,good work guys.
Wonder what the weight difference versus other big block or coyote swaps is ?
Coyote is about 100 pounds lighter, but this is 140 cubic inches bigger.
@@revanevan are the heads aluminum or iron ?
At 445 cu in (7.3 liters), some racing organizations have lower limits on small block sizes. For example Hot Rod Drag Week (not a true competition, more for bragging rights), their cut off is 430 cu in for the dividing line between small block and big block. a lot depends on racing organization rules for where this would actually fall on the SB/BB classifications
Even though I think this is a great motor, I still think the 460-based engine would be a less expensive, more powerful way to Fox it up.
460 is an overweight malaise era boat anchor. 1994 F350 7.5L: 245HP; 410 ft/lbs.
Sure, modern heads could help with HP somewhat, but you still have a heavy lump of iron block.
Aluminum head 460 can easily make 700hp I guess you thought the454 as truck was a hp monster to lmao
@@bamadave1983
Alum heads; iron block. Heavy as hell. I guess, if all you wanna do is go fast for 1/4 mile at a time...it'd do, but throw handling right out the window!
It's 2020; we have options. Specifically, now we have an option that stays brand-loyal. There's no need, in today's world, to toss a HEAVY lump of iron in a car. And with all the labor, and seperate go-fast parts...you ain't saving as much as you thought.
Lol say what you want, but this 7.3l v8 is gonna be the best option, almost bullet proof from the factory and a guy already got 550 hp at the crank with this with a tune. The torque will make it fun for drifting out from car and coffee lol
bcubed72 the 7.3 is iron block lol
I can see it now, blue thunder heads, solid roller cam, Ross pistons, Danny bee timing belt, kooks headers, etc... I'm excited 🤪
"Who would put one of those in a Fox body..."
"...OH I think Me, 30 years ago"

The correct answer is everyone with a Fox Body would love this.
Just needs a twin turbo kit and a E85 setup and it will be ready for the market....😛👍
I said twin turbo...then my brain started thinking....
No... it needs EIGHT tiny little turbos 😋, with the down pipes, up and looking like old school fuel Injection coming through a closed hood...
I can dream too.🤤
I want to put one in my 65 Galaxie..it already has 390..but this would bring it to a new level..go FORD..
I think 700 hp potential without power adders.
With the cubic inch it has. That shouldn't be a problem
Oscar Mayer that’s 1.569HP per cubic inch. I think 606 is more realistic with stock internals. 700 hp is double it’s advertised HP
K Moss the video showed 475 horsepower I thought
@@kmoss9521 that's not double stock it's 425
@@kmoss9521 that's terrible math lol. It made 430 which would be 860 doubled. If you weren't off by 160hp. Which is a big difference. I wouldn't have said anything. The 430 was also with a restricted factory exhaust system and the factory air box and filter. Just adding exhaust, unrestricted air filter and tune it makes 500hp np.
It's because they did such a good job with these heads and the fact it's 445ci that it's going to make some much possible in the right hands.
This car I bet you will shatter world records lol 2020 push rod Ford build forged fully and gonna have a whipple on her
I could definitely work on this motor a lot easier than a mod motor and i think it would be a cheaper alternative than mod motor swaps

Good for the Ford fans. Hope the aftermarket will put at least a 50 percent effort into this as they do for the welfare king LS motor. Going to keep up with this SB Ford
Welfare king? So people who are smart with money are welfare kings?
Sounds really smart.
@@elonmust7470 The past ten years GM has taken over 30 billion from the economy from the taxpayers to survive in the form of corporate welfare. Just a thought ☝🏽💭 instead of nicknaming this engine “Godzilla”, seeing that the Nissan GTR and R32 Skylines are already dubbed that, Ford should have nicknamed it “Mastodon”, considering the position of the throttle body and intake resembles the trunk of a mammoth or mastodon.. and because it will go down in history as a legendary beast!
