It's unbelievable how quickly RMC transformed this industry. What was once the most influential and boundary-pushing manufacturer is now copying from another manufacturer's playbook left and right. Before, the coaster war was about parks fighting over records, and hiring specific manufacturers for the kind of coaster they want. Now, there's one company every park wants a coaster from and other manufacturers are playing catch-up. It's no longer about numbers - it's about expanding possibilities and finding perfection.
I love this point, but have to say it’s still #1 priority to make money, and stats jump out to the GP all day. Just look at the marketing for some of the top coasters coming out.. Iron Gwazi is tallest, longest fastest etc., Yukon Striker and Orion are marketed the same way... Maybe it’s more of a long game inso that once a park gets a GP on the new ride (that’s isn’t the tallest/longest/fastest) they’ll be hooked by the uniqueness/intensity and will come back for more. Anyways, I would also say that RMC has innovated a ton, but I would hardly say they are the only manufacturer in demand and others are playing ‘catchup’... I wouldn’t call B&M adding a wave turn on Orion catchup. Also GCI and Mack are still doing its thing and haven’t ‘changed’. Intiman and Vekoma have taken elements from RMC but who can say RMC didn’t steal from other companies? What’s proprietary anyway? Just a thought, and take care!
@@nicholasowen2338 You make some good points as well. Record-breaking stats are still being sought to appeal to the GP, but ever since Kingda Ka, records have become much closer to each other and most of the time aren't made for meaningful progression, most records nowadays emphasize that a coaster has slightly more impressive stats than other coasters of the same type, just small 1-ups to claim "world records" for advertising purposes that might not affect the ride experience all that much. And I agree that something like B&M adding a single element RMC commonly uses shouldn't be considered "playing catch-up" either, maybe I didn't pick the most accurate term. Still, it's interesting to see. Intamin is taking far more ideas from RMC than any other manufacturer (hell, look at Pantheon and all the elements that coaster borrows from RMC, and now they announce a monorail coaster), but there's no doubt in my mind RMC's success influenced B&M's decision to include that element, and I wouldn't be surprised if more "RMC elements" pop up in future B&M coasters. Even though it's only one small example, it still goes to show that they've taken notice of RMC's success and decided to incorporate something they're known for into one of their own coasters. It's not "playing catch-up" by any means, because B&M is still evolving their own style (and the same could be said for Intamin, since their base formula hasn't changed much in their new coasters either), and they don't need to change their design philosophy - their coasters always end up being universally loved anyway. And yes, I suppose companies have been "stealing" ideas from each other for a long time, taking bits and pieces of other coasters' designs and mixing them into their own style, but I can't think of any time in the past when multiple manufacturers began to borrow specific elements from one source, definitely not on this scale. Arrow pioneered steel coaster design as we know it, so everything since then has been building upon the foundation they laid out, and over time certain elements have become commonplace as new ideas are introduced by various manufacturers. But I can't think of another time, at least in recent history, when manufacturers that are prolific and influential in their own right suddenly start borrowing elements (or entire ride concepts) that are considered "staples" of another company's design philosophy, even if there are only a few examples so far (Pantheon being the most obvious, along with them adopting monorail coasters, and GCI making a move towards hybrid coasters, to name a few).
Your voice is so nice to listen to 😂 Great video, but idk what I think about Intamin trying to make a raptor. It seems like a bad idea when RMC’s will almost definitely be way cheaper
I feel like Intamin is a little salty over RMC's success. Lol they seem to have adapted this anything you can do, i can do better approach. Kinda how after RMC assembled El Toro they managed to come up with a core product that is much like a new and improved version with added steel and inversions that was cheap and took the world by storm. Their track and structures (Hybrids/Topper track and Prefabs) are strikingly similar, so now Intamin copied their Single Rail design and layout elements. It's kind of amusing😄. They're both the best in the world i think so im happy they are copying each other.
Awesome video both manufacturers are amazing RMC may have some competition finally with intamin/single rail and GCI hybrids the more rides for us the better
Hey, I've noticed you've been using some TPR footage in your videos. Although they have some admittedly great footage, I'm not sure how fine Robb and the others are with having their footage used, even if credited in the description. I'd be a little careful about that so as to not get into unnecessary copyright trouble. I really really like this channel and would hate to see it get into copyright stuff when it gets really popular. (Unless of course you've been given direct permission to use their footage, in which case you can probably ignore this concern I have hahahaha.) Just a little worried.
You misinterpreted what Alan said completely. He was hoping for more clones because they are the most profitable, but other companies want unique designs. They have still been selling extremely well, and they have been at max capacity for years.
This isn't the first time they've done this recently, they did the same with S&S's 4D Free Spin model, and to this day none have been sold. I'm pretty sure unless they can somehow do something that RMC can't, RMC will be the one who sells these. Also, the Raptor model isn't the first single rail coaster, Meteor at Sportland Pier was in operation from about 1960. rcdb.com/2807.htm
Intamin also offers some compelling water rides. Their new 40 meter Giga Splash is a 24 or 40 passenger state-of-the-art Shoot-the-Chutes with a spiral lift leading to an 87º drop. Riders can enjoy 360º scenic views from the top before the thrilling drop. Also, Hot Racer is an in-line seating launch coaster powered by friction wheels.
Good on them for innovating. As coaster fans we’re bias and need to realize these businesses do their due diligence and market research. It takes a lot of forethought to just get to a concept, and I’m sure Intiman isn’t going in blind. They’ve talked to parks, done market research, polling, P&L’s, and have been in the business long enough to make a decision that this could be profitable. In terms of ‘copying’ RMC, we shouldn’t pass judgement as this happens all the time... one company comes up with a good idea and the next one innovates and improves on it, it how we get progress and modernization. It’s been happening in the coaster industry forever... Also, just because it’s a concept doesn’t mean it’s going to be a thing, it may never make it to production. Thanks for another great video, love the channel!!!
Am I the only one who immediately thought of Kings Dominion with the whole race car theme? KD is known to take on prototypes and new concepts. Plus there's already a race car themed ride. Volcano and The Crypt were both removed so maybe the theme for that area could be themed to Nascar and racing. At least I think it makes sense haha.
When the Raptor was first announced I thought that the amount of moving parts (wheels and assemblies) per rider was much too high! For a train that holds 8 riders you need an assembly of 12 wheels per person (plus 12 wheels for the zero-car). That´s 108 wheels per train/324 wheels need to be maintained for 3-train operation. That´s insane for a low capacity attraction! I guess that´s a big factor for the lacklustre sales. Almost every coaster company has designed their space-saving, "cheap" model that they hoped to sell to small parks and malls in the past. Strangely enough almost none of these ever caught on as planned. (S&S Screaming Squirrel, Intamin Space Diver, Zac Spin, etc). Now we know that Intamin rides come with a massive price-tag and if the Hot Racer is supposed to cater to the same demographic as the Raptor, I doubt we will see one outside of Dubai.
It really surprises me that the Raptor isn’t more popular. I’ve ridden Wonder Woman many times and it’s truly an incredible ride. I do think the capacity isn’t the greatest thing, and it could be longer, but Jersey Devil seems like it will make up for ride length. I do think if RMC gets back to work on the T-Rex track that more parks would take interest. Wonder Woman has been pretty well received, and since the T-Rex would fix the capacity issue, it would be a great choice for bigger parks. I’m curious when and if we’ll be seeing this Intamin! A launched Raptor would be something else!
I would say about the RMC Raptors, they have apparently sold quite a few from what I know, along with JD clones most lightly going to be the most popular model, with Magic Mountain getting one, along with Great Adventure, I wouldn't be surprised if those are the ones that see more, and they allow for a few more variations of layout and station placement compared to the OG prototypes. Example - the Magic Mountain one looks to add a slight turning into the brakes, allowing for the station to be in a better location for the park. I personally doubt that this Intamin model will take off, it has been stated Raptors can launch, so that point imo is kind of invalid, aside from it maybe being the way the ride is mainly marketed.
Maybe it will be a true single rail? Unlike the RMC where it still has two smaller extentions from the main box, making it technically a two rail track. Just like B&M track, but the rails are square and the ties are enclosed. When you enlarge the wheel configuration, you can surround a box, without extensions, making it a true single rail.
That is such an Intamin move, lets change our track design again. But a budget Intamin multi launch coaster could be what a lot ofsmaller and larger parks might want, or could effort in such a time.
I would need to see a ful fleshed out layout, and concept video to give proper assessment. I am totally fine with Intamin doing a single rail style coaster. Cant wait to see if and when one of these comes to fruition (:
I'd bet some talk around a board room table and the artist rendering is as far as this thing has been developed. From the picture it appears that you wouldn't straddle the rail either, so probably a less dynamic ride experience than the RMC counterpart. I agree a launch might help it's cause, but for me personally I'd pick the lift hill and vertical drop. I don't see anyone buying this, which means this will propbably sell like crazy and the S&S Axis will get shelved. lol
I feel like this could perform better or worse depending on whether intamin can use their favor in the foreign market or if their current negative image in the american market limits how it could perform statewise
You said they are not taking off. In 3 years they have sold 3 of smaller raptors and 2 of the larger layout raptors. Thats 5 and who knows any in the future? Doesn't seem like a dud to me.

Some companies, incl them?, have called two rounds rails vertically stacked a single rail.
What if Vekoma takes on this concept because Vekoma makes a lot of models
YES!!!!
I would think capacity of 1000 to 1500 riders / hour works be needed for a park to justify that kind of investment
This was a thing from IAAPA 2019
RMC vs Intamin which is better
This won't get big. I agree with you
