That's an 8 part fugue for solo piano lol. it's is terribly difficult I cannot even begin to imagine how much more difficult it was to write Its gorgeous tho
Alkan was genius. This is one of the best sonatas ever composed. Alkan show his ginialityy, creativity and innovation. And Maltempo's interpretation is one of the best!
I had never heard of the composer Alkan, and I had been taking music lessons since I was seven years old. Why? He is a revelation to me. More than Beethoven, whom I loved until now, but which is now only a poor substitute for Alkan, unfortunately. Just a few bars in the second movement of the Appassionata, with which Beethoven now approaches Alkan. I don't understand why Alkan was kept from me and all of us. He is so beautiful, great, unique! Thanks to Mr. Vincenzo Maltempo for his great work!
Starting at 30:48 magic happens. That part in the third movement gives me shivers in the most positive way. Its so melancholic and sad somehow. I interprete it as the part where the middle aged man realizes he is getting old.
@@stephanjwilliams Yea, certainly. Alkan doesnt get enough attention. I guess thats due the lack of melodic structure of some of his weaker pieces as well as due to the horrible difficulties you encounter while playing many of his pieces.
I'm 15 and I love this so much. Vincenzo's tempo and emotional control is incredible, and so is his technique. The 30 years movement is by far better than Hamelin's pretty goofy recording.
Just the thought of Liszt being nervous in ANY pianist's presence makes me giggle. Then again, he also thought he wasn't worthy when compared to Anton Rubinstein. History begs to differ, but it is what it is.
He slowed down on quite a few of the more technical sections... Still an incredibly performance, but I prefer Hamelin's take on several of these pieces.
Une pianiste extraordinaire!! Bravissimo, Vincenzo Maltempo!!!
14:43 cant imagine someone writing this, Alkan is a genius, truly genius

Maltempo's quite a talent. It's strange that I've never heard of him.
Not that strange - he plays Alkan.

That's also one of my favorite parts. The whole sonata is one of the greatest ever written, in my opinion.

Odd, I realized I was getting old upon my 20th birthday!

He is a gifted master ...
this recording is a real treassure.
There is nothing more beautiful
16:53 Alkan is a genius
Para mi un desconocido Alkan...Sorprendente el virtuosismo de Maltempo ( 35 años en 2020 )
Alkan's music makes me think of Mendelssohn overdosing on Red Bull.
Adderall
Nah
Also i can see beethoven's shadow.
Why is this so true
the 3rd mov is so underated but so magical
Of the sonata?
Maltempo is a music genius. Extremely original and individual playing as Horowitz would have put it

Amazing performance!
Nice name for a musician
5:20
The only performance I've currently heard that pressed that particular note to transition to the beautiful part perfectly well.
Grazie!;)
You need 10 hands and 120 fingers to play Alkan !
Or maybe only one hand with 5 fingers if you are Alkan
@@fishingtrio7823 lmao

Preston and Child's "Book of the Dead" brought me here.
Same here!! I Love P&C books
Me too
*IT’S TOOOOOOOOO GOOD...*
OMG! *IMPOSSIBLE*
Yesssssss!!!
indeed!
5:22 is so good
41:14 - Chopin's Polonaise in C minor Op. 40 No. 2
Piano technique at his highest it is composed to suffer and punish piano players but apparently Maltempo is getting amused great performance .

Maltempo? the tempo is bien

Jake Payne Hamelin plays it very fast. I don't like it. Maltempo has more orgasmic sound)
@@Ar1osssa More orgasmic sound😂😂😂
@@Jamric-gr8gr 😂😂😂
@@Jamric-gr8gr Thank you Franz Liszt for keeping a mask on 😷
Hamelin plays it faster but with a lot of mistakes. I never heard any in Maltempo's performance.
