I must admit that I prefer the modern piano vs this Erard 1899, that sounds a bit as a Honky Tonky saloon piano. Maltempo's recordings of Alkan on the modern piano don't lack of authenticity in any way
Yo no conocía a Alkan, pero me gusta lo impetuoso de su música que aplana y subyuga los sentimientos. Dificilísimo de interpretar salvando matices y el intérprete lo logra. Hace un siglo?
Alkan was beyond eccentric He wrote 4 part fugues for the feet for a pedal piano that no longer gets made, as best I can find. However, he also wrote some truly spectacular music.. One of my favorites is one of the most difficult pieces for solo piano ever written. There are tons of attempts to perform it on the tube.. Some are spectacular.. others get close, and some fall flat. I did a quick search and found ruclips.net/video/H509PDE6RCI/видео.html The performance in that video is a midi playback.. It's still spectacular.
My favorite recording of the Trois Petites Fantaisies, Op. 41!
I love that reference to Chopin's Marche Funebre at 24:23
An awesome pianist!! Bravissimo!!

Alkan est vraiment un compositeur obsédant ......

I do not understand a lot about music. Can anyone tell me if the first piece was played in an upright piano?
Probably on a steinway concert grand model D
"Maltempo plays on a magnificent Érard Grand Piano from 1899, lending a special feeling of authenticity to his playing."
Its and Erard, probably from 1840~60
