Charles Valentin Alkan est un superbe, subtil, intelligent compositeur Français, hélas méconnu dans notre pays,…mais admiré par les amateurs de “grande” musique ! Merci à ses interprètes comme Mark Viner !
This album captures the unique brilliance and emotional richness of Alkan, connecting with his spirit in an rare and essential way. A gorgeous collection by Mark Viner, whose other music I'll now seek out.
Alkan as a miniaturist is underrated. These Preludes, and his Esquisses and Chants are (in my opinion) the equal of similar series by Schumann, Mendelssohn, etc. We are in Mark Viner's debt for bringing this luminescent, personal music to our ears in such luminescent and personal performances. It will be a joy to hear Viner's 4th disk and further entries in this mammoth undertaking of the complete piano works!
Einfach wunderbar!
The tender and poetic cote' of the adventurous and always experimental Alkan...but here we can find not only musical poetry, but also his inclination towards passion for Religion, and obviously the capability to go deeper into the meanders of human psychology ( La chanson de la folle au bord de la Mer...). A very refined collection, performed in an excellent way by M.Viner, bravo!

Alkan's music is new to me. These preludes are very interesting, but La Chanson de la folle au bord de la mer (18:34) is astonishing.
Don't forget alkan's concerto's and grande sonata les quatres ages. Hamelin's recording amazing
if you liked preludes, I recommen Alkan's d Esquisses op.63 :)
His Grand Duo Concertant (violin/piano) and his Sonate de Concert (cello/piano) are both outstanding.
My Great Great uncle, his bother was my Great Great Grandfather
Wonderful to see you here! I’m in touch already with Mme. Elizabeth Pierce! Fondest wishes from London.
Elizabeth Pearce is my Aunt. I live in Australia but I spent Christmas with her in the UK
Un doux piano. ...♡ beaux morceaux musicaux. Merci

Alkan is sooo underrated
Great upload! I was just trying to find the complete set on RUclips but couldn’t find a good one
Perfect for rainy nights )
13:25 chills
Incredible!!
glad to see you around this side of the internet.
Grandioso...
Very "blueish"... Love it...
Beautiful
These might be the first alkan pieces I like
Chopin still have the best prelude opus imo, but Alkan is insane.
穏やかな ピアノ🎹
The last prelude, Lentement, should be more famous
this opus is to anyone that thinks that Alkan is all technicality
op.48 is divine too
🇹🇷😍🤗
Jeez all his pieces sound the same..
From a distance, one could say the same of Bach and Mozart.
🤣you obviously don't know Alkan's music very well!
Not impressed with Alkan.
