I didn't have a relay I installed mine in my Dodge truck I grounded mine right to the frame and for the power I just ran it to a fuse and put an on off switch between it, and it worked great I scared the hell out of many people no relay is needed IDC what they say, and u can fit train horn on almost ever vehicle just find the room I got my setup off amazon they have great horn setups at great prices good luck with your install, it took me about an hr and a half to put in

I have Viair set-up on a Silverado. Wired 45amp relays and separate on-off buttons for horn solenoid, and air compressor. Kept blowing fuses left and right! Liked to almost lost my mind, trying to figure out the problem. Finally realized today, the air compressor which I mounted on the frame under the truck was grounding to frame, even though rubber feet still in place. Like having 2 grounds!** WRONG!** The compressor's black wire to pressure switch, which is ground, other ground I did not know about was the compressor itself touching the frame. Now have on-board air, plus some mighty train horns!

Seems like cutting the bottom of the trunk out is a pretty radical move. What happens when you drive on rainy / snowy days ? All that water and road crap going in the trunk can't be good for the wiring, not to mention the mess it leaves in the wheel well ?? But it is a bad ass horn.

@sititlow How loud if your compressor and how often does it turn on?
I’ll be installing a horn in the next couple weeks and am debating between one of those small little compressors that sits next to the horn or a setup similar to yours. Obviously, not as much power or volume with the former. I’m just concerned about a traditional larger compressor being annoying inside of the car/ it re-pressurizing constantly.

There are also digital varieties of air horns for emergency vehicles that produce a similar effortlessly-recognizable sound. These are usually integrated into the exact same system as the automobile's electronic siren, and seem through the same loudspeakers. I have discovered this site www.pbmissions.com/ while my searching on the Internet to put an air horns for my personal car. Thank you for this nice video

Does the output from the relay to the horn go on the positive or negative terminal of the horn? Then the other terminal from the horn would go directly to the chassis ground?

i actually have a few questions..... does it matter what size air tank you use ? i bought an 11 gallon 125 psi tank, im starting from scratch instead of buying a bullshit kit it has a compression gauge on it but only two ports one for the compressor and another for an attatchment which would be my horns, and i also bought a centralpneumatic 150 psi high volume 12v compressor, i know i need the pressure switch ? but what more do i need ? im pretty smart when it comes to installing things, just dont exactly know what other parts i need.... thank u

  • @brianhundemer9603

What would cause the horn to sound like a squeaking sound as if air was letting off at the horn but not going through the trumpets to have a tone? Solenoid is clicking when I flip my switch. But after I leave the switch on after a bit making the squeaking sound, the horn starts making a low tone sounding like a tornado siren of some sort.

Air leak from the hose to were it goes in on the base of horn or the base & trumpet itself, can use loctite or teflon on threads to seal!

you can ground to the negative on the battery or a ground on the vehicle. it'll work the same. deciding factor for most is how much wire do you want to run through vehicle.

John Cimino It looks like in the video he just used a Yellow terminal witch is a 10 AWG terminal and just trimmed the # 4 wire down to fit the terminal. If you go to a True Electricial Supply Store You will find the right terminals. Hope this helps.

I read some forums on this exact subject connecting 4g to a small relay and they said the relay is likely to melt too much power. They also mentioned using a step down block 4g to 8 to the relay. Ur 100% on the money with the 4g. When you made this video why didn't you mention the biggest obstacle connecting the 4g to the relay oh by the way the grd Relay they said should be 4 gauge also.
