Well i made the mistake of looking up 10+ diagrams online for wiring a relay for airhorn with everybody having this own way. I can now confirm that I have a big working horn in my car.
Thanks for an excellent video showing details!! I've not done any electrical work on cars so your details really answered a lot of questions I had unlike the other hundreds of videos out there that show nearly NOTHING! Thanks again!
Quite informative, Basically wanted to see the Grille area in regards of mounting the horns along with compressor. Wiring through the firewall is not that hard as I looked up google. There's a rubber bulb protrudes next to the steering column. That's where the wire goes through along with dielectric grease. Just a tip or two here
speedkar99 I have had it for over a year and got it for a 79glastron Carlson boat I was restoring. So I finally got around to installing it. I got it on amazon and the horns are red plastic not chrome like yours but other than that identical. Also they sell the very same one at harbor freight.
i wanted musical air horns in my Toyota Rukus but i was told there wouldn't be enough room. now i have 1 horn mounted which is a Klaxton. i have a black soft touch button near the entry key to push to sound the Klaxton. but i would prefer Musical horns. awesome video my buddy.
speedkar99 oh yes. since i am driving a box i really wanted musical horns which play a tune. but here in Australia they are illegal. but you can still buy them in the shops. i am quite happy to have the klaxton which is kinda funny as people are quite shocked when i press the button. they don't expect it. so i am very happy with my horn. thanks my buddy :-)
I really want to make this horn lower pitched, like a truck or a train. I have to modify the horn bell to be longer so it sounds less like a circus and more manly.
Thanks guy, this helped me along in my quest. However i installed one 450 mm alloy trumpet as opposed to two trumpets. Sounds a much lower tone than what we have in this video. Thanks again.
Very good instruction (I liked that your video didn't include any wasted time unlike 99%+ of RUclips instructional videos). The only thing you didn't do, based on your own instruction with, incredibly, an example of the violation of your own rules, is actually use a crimping tool instead of a cutting tool. Could it be that you actually don't have one?
I think it a little strange that you switch the negative side of the battery through the relay... I would have grounded the negative side of the compressor and switched the fused positive side of the battery through the relay to the positive side of the compressor. 2:12
I'm confused where the switch wire connects to. Does it get spiced into the fuse wire? Or does it get wired separate to the battery and a separate wire from the battery to the compressor?
Is it possible to just replace the stock horn with the air horn so that there is no need for the extra wiring and relay? Just remove the stock horn and feed the power to the compressor?
+TheCladi8or Yes the switch needs to go from power to the relay. You should run the switch off of an ignition enabled fuse so the horn only works when the key is turned on.
i realy need the relay ?? if i connect one cable from the compressor directely to the battery and the other one to a button that is connect to the battery does it work ????
Could I install this without a harness? The harness for my Mitsubishi Montero sport (2002) is no longer sold anywhere- and I cant fix my horn the traditional way. SO I thought I'd try to have an air horn mounted.
Awesome video, had a question though. I received 2 large horns with separate motors. Is it okay to run them inline on the same 30a fuse or should I run parallel circuits tied into the same switch??
Ok, wait. Is it possible I can just buy this and wire it right to my battery? I have an existing PA speaker with an extra wire that I can connect the horn too. So why can't I connect that and then run it through the firewall to the battery?
Good video and thanks. I am installing a set of Fiamm horns on my Caliber and this will be very useful. Quick question, do you think you lose volume having the horns facing down?
@@kc8998 , it's basically a planned weak spot that can fail before other more-expensive hard-to-reach wiring or electrical components burn up from excessive voltage. So one fuse per complete circuit (even if multiple items draw electricity from that one circuit route).
+A Bunny Probably not if you sound the horn too annoyingly. It's not that much louder than a normal horn so I wouldn't see a complaint based on noise. It's the tone that catches your attention.
simpler not best but I've seen worse... material: 12 gauge speaker wire, 20 amp fuse and holder, terminals, and momentary switch... 1. you take for example the positive side of the wire with the fuse from the positive battery post to one side of the momentary switch... 2. you take the for example the negative side of the wire from one side of the switch to the positive on the compresor ( both + and -- sides of the wire are positively charged) 3. ground your compressor ...you will know where the terminals go
This was done quite well no nonsense quickly move through it. Thanks for posting. Very informative.
You are welcome
I've spent hours today trying to install an air horn. absolutely no luck. I will try with this video tomorrow. thanks dude
+Stephen Gardiner Hope all goes well. What part were you having difficulty with?

After 5 videos this one was one that actually helped me, thank you
Glad it did
Your video and diagram especially, really helped me. I installed Hella air horns in my s10 this weekend. They worked on the first shot! Thanks a lot!
Glad my video helped you! Do you have a vid of how it sounds?
I used this video installing this very horn and it learned a lot referring to this video many times as a guide.
I'm glad it helped. Where'd you get your horn from?
speedkar99 I have had it for over a year and got it for a 79glastron Carlson boat I was restoring. So I finally got around to installing it. I got it on amazon and the horns are red plastic not chrome like yours but other than that identical. Also they sell the very same one at harbor freight.
Great video!!! Quick and to the point! No bs talking other then what we need to know!!
+Michael Vega short and to the point is my style
This is the best wiring explanation ive neen able to find anywhere for the relay ,thank you for posting
I just needed the diagram and you had it. Thank you for showing including it in the video. I can let you knaow how it turned out after i install mine.

+SK4869 Thanks. Musical horns play music when you sound them? Kinda funny on a car haha

speedkar99 couldn't you get a Klaxton horn & use that.? oh yes i too would love a truck horn in my baby. imagine the surprise you would get. ;-)
Yes, I could change the horn, but I want to see if I can DIY rig something.
Other projects in the loops for now though :)

You're welcome. I am curious though, do you have an actual crimping tool as opposed to the diagonal cutter used for this purpose in your video?
The tank was made in 99 - 2, meaning February of 1999.
Nice vid dude. Great editing. Not long and boring but easy to follow 👍
+DOON fpv Short and to the point is my style.

+MrMbaines13 It works either way. Its easier to find a ground inside the car than to find a 12v source with high enough amps to power the horn.
I'm confused where the switch wire connects to. Does it get spiced into the fuse wire? Or does it get wired separate to the battery and a separate wire from the battery to the compressor?
To the relay and then ground
Is it possible to just replace the stock horn with the air horn so that there is no need for the extra wiring and relay? Just remove the stock horn and feed the power to the compressor?
Of course no bullshit just remove the good old horn throw it away and rewire the new one and enjoy
Possible - yes. Legal - maybe not. Also, two horns gives an option for a gentle "beep" or a riveting "HONK"!
Of course
Hello why when I lock the car the horn will not beep ?
Not all Toyotas beep, some have a volume knob underneath the dash to adjust the volume
speedkar99 mine is 2013 armada. I have the truck claxon horn
Excellent how-to video!
ok sounds good. but I have a newer car and don't wanna tap into other wires.. so I need to run a 2nd wire to function as the other side of switch?
like another hot from battery? sorry for all the questions !
+TheCladi8or Yes the switch needs to go from power to the relay.
You should run the switch off of an ignition enabled fuse so the horn only works when the key is turned on.
Would the horn remain continuous if you held down the button?
Yes.
speedkar99 oh sweet thanks man
i realy need the relay ?? if i connect one cable from the compressor directely to the battery and the other one to a button that is connect to the battery does it work ????
+Eurgio That will burn your switch
Amperage is high
speedkar99 m.ruclips.net/video/gCcAJrxNz7I/видео.html what is the problem whit me horn
Could I install this without a harness? The harness for my Mitsubishi Montero sport (2002) is no longer sold anywhere- and I cant fix my horn the traditional way. SO I thought I'd try to have an air horn mounted.
+Jonsin Well technically I did my own harness here by rigging my switch from the cabin outside the vehicle. So yes
Thanks!
Hi I’ve just got twin air horn and seen a diagram but it doesn’t show the air horns which as got a silonder
Which as got two black wires coming from it
Why not just wire it to the wires what go to the old horn?? What's the need for keeping the old horn in place.
For legality purposes.
Sometimes you want to give someone a good bye or hello and not alert the neighborhood
Awesome video, had a question though. I received 2 large horns with separate motors. Is it okay to run them inline on the same 30a fuse or should I run parallel circuits tied into the same switch??
I think a 30A fuse is sufficient
Okay I've got the battery + to the + on the mini comp and a ground from the body to - on comp. Please guide me with the relay
The switch with 12v goes to the other terminal on the relay
I have a Vevo air horn kit. No manuel. 2 wires off the 4 horns both red. A red and a blue off the tank with attached compressor. How do I wire it
To the relay as you see here
Ok, wait. Is it possible I can just buy this and wire it right to my battery? I have an existing PA speaker with an extra wire that I can connect the horn too. So why can't I connect that and then run it through the firewall to the battery?
Yes but use a relay
By the time your done with that car you'll have a batmobile. Lol.
+Project DIY Exactly...!
Good video and thanks. I am installing a set of Fiamm horns on my Caliber and this will be very useful. Quick question, do you think you lose volume having the horns facing down?
Yes because it's bouncing off the ground. But I prefer not to have water in my horns
Nice editing installing 1 on my motorcycle
Why cant you use the wiring from the original horn and not use a switch
So you can use both types of horn independently
@@speedkar99 I just want the air horn operational, how do I stop from blowing fuses
I put a 10a fuse in the hot wire to the battery so I don't blow the 25a in the fuse panel and that blew instead.
Could be a short-circuit somewhere in the wiring or components.
Can't I just use the wiring harness from my stock horn???
+borderex Yes but then you won't have the stock horn.
Not sure if thats legal
Why…3 positive hot wires with a ground in the middle…is this wiring diagram in English or Spanglish?
What if you don't install a fuse will it still work..??
It will but could short your battery if there's a problem
@@speedkar99 OK thanks for letting me know. I am going to get the fuse now..
@@speedkar99 Is the one fuse all I need on one side.. ??
@@kc8998 , it's basically a planned weak spot that can fail before other more-expensive hard-to-reach wiring or electrical components burn up from excessive voltage.
So one fuse per complete circuit (even if multiple items draw electricity from that one circuit route).
@@jongregory8554 Ok thank you very much. I needed to know that..
jewels o gina here thanks for the tutorial
Ahh so its kinda of like hooking up a sound system very nice 🙇🏻👍
Are you a mechanic by profession
No, I'm an engineer
Thanks for posting!
Good Work
I need a relay
Whats the name of the horn??
It's from princess auto, I don't remember the brand
hey just wondering im from ontario too is this legal here?
+A Bunny Probably not if you sound the horn too annoyingly. It's not that much louder than a normal horn so I wouldn't see a complaint based on noise. It's the tone that catches your attention.
Speedkar99 How build so Fast? and Quick?
Good job dude ..sweet!...
Hai,
Please help me to install a 3 Pipe air horn on my Volkswagen Ameo. Anyone..........
Muy buen video ese...
excellent
Many many thanks
hahaha all that work for a clown horn. Good install video at least
+Clady Smith yea it sounds like a food truck. I need to get a longer Bell for the horn to get a deeper tone.
So I just installed one and it sounds like a fucking fart in a can something is very wrong with it, but I bought it brand new... What's wrong with it?
+Tommy Mitchell You have a whoopy cushion stuck inside the long trumpet
simpler not best but I've seen worse... material:
12 gauge speaker wire, 20 amp fuse and holder, terminals, and momentary switch...

...you will know where the terminals go
+juan kidd You'll fry your switch. The relay is there to separate the circuits.
i feel like buying you new gloves lol
+Rokkopg24 Thanks. I do have newer gloves but they're too new and not ripped up yet for this kind of work :)
so fast...
+Widyan Widoseno Yes quick and easy to understand is my style.
Seems like you have to be an electrician to figure this shit out
Nah. It's a simple relay
Je doet echt moeilijk je kan ook gwn van luchthoorn naar accu en bij plus van luchthoorn naar schakelaar naar accu
I must be thick I still cant sort my truck horns fml
lol, get a truck horn, much much funner
Haha that would be a blast... literally
@@speedkar99 I mounted it to a bicycle, pretty effective, also very cheap on eBay, like $18 for a kit
Get a boat air horn or train horn - I put a train horn on my minivan (thanks to this videographer for location suggestion).
