When I left Hollywood and moved back to New York .. and left the one true love of my life .. I played this over and over for two years ...and New York State Of Mind ... until we got back together ... and still are. Bill Joel, you are the songs of my life. You once asked, on here, which was my favorite (if that was really you) and I said that every song that you have ever written, sung are my favorites. You have written the story of my life. Thank you, my friend. From Bensonhurst ... with LOVE!
OMG!!!! This just breaks me up. it was one of my most fav songs by Billy!! I listened to it as a teen when it first came out SO MANY TIMES OVER AND OVER AND OVER! GAWD i miss those days SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!! Can someone PLEASE invent a time machine so i can go back and relive all this great music again and again and again!!!
That voice just as pure and clear as it was in the 70s...what a gorgeous talented man...he wrote songs that are all of our memories from those great years ❤❤❤
My favourite song for nostalgia purposes. When I was 5 years old, 1984, my parents had a vinyl single (45) of this song (Songs from the Attic Version) and I literally played my first record ever as they showed me how to use the record player. Well, I was then hooked on music and records. I played this song over and over so much, my parents still to this day tell the story to our family, friends and acquaintances. I became obsessed with it for months, even years later as I learned how to play piano. Needless to say I became a huge Billy Joel fan as a kid, child, teenager and adult. It still to this day takes me back to a happy place and happy time. I saw Billy in MSG Nov. 2017 and it was unfortunately not on the set list that night (my only time seeing him as I live in Newfoundland, Canada.) But man, what a show and experience for my and my wife on a weekend trip to NYC. I plan to see him again and hopefully I'll get to see this song live before either me or Billy aren't around or playing anymore. And the sax solo on the "Songs from the Attic" live version, is still my favourite sax solo of any band of any timeline. You can feel the soul / passion in that solo so much. Needless to say for me, it's one of my favourite Billy Joel songs.
Wow he sounds amazing. This has always been my favorite of all his songs from the moment it hit the radio, and it aged perfectly. His voice is the same.
When you get a Billy Joel song in your head, it is best to just go ahead and listen to it. They're really just that good. A wonderfully brilliant songwriter, and talented musician.
Nothing to say when speechlesssss- bn since 1970...started listen then..thanx BJ- you made many happy by shutting up my mouth..And I got 2hear you!!❤🌞🤗
THANK YOU! I had a death in the family and had to sell my tickets for this show. This is one of my top five Joel songs and being he NEVER performs it any more, I was so mad I missed it. Hopefully he keeps it in the rotation and I get to see him do it Monday.
I know this is a reeeeeeeeeeeally overdue reply but I just wanted you to know that I attended Billy Joel's concert this past January (2020) at Madison Square Garden in NYC and he performed it. It's my all-time favourite Billy Joel song and it was the first time I'd seen him live. Did NOT disappoint!! :) You'll get another chance x.
I get It. My first concert experience was Billy's in México, but i was so sad because i was at the backseats and i didnt thought about that since It was my first experience. And also It was his farewell concert so Id never see him again, but i still love Billy Joel and at least i could hear His voice live and watch him on screens, maybe i'll have a better experience next Time, not with Billy but with other artists thanks to this experience, all i can do Is to keep enjoying his songs.
Saw him in '89 in Montreal.....had a hankering to find some live footage from this year and this blew my mind how great he still sounds.....time to catch Billy on the road again.

Jong Hao absolute it has. Have a listen to songs in the attic. Different key and a shit load more life. Besides which liberty devito and the others made this song.
Has changed substantially. Ever since he started changing his '76-'81 band lineup it's slowly gotten worse and worse. I'd still pay top dollar to see this guy live (and I did in 2014), but there is NO question his songs sounds much, much different. I'm not even talking about his lowered voice, I don't mind the key changes. Just the overall feel of his songs are a lot worse (in my opinion at least). Though it's not an opinion that his sound hasn't changed. Once again, it totally has. Like Dom O'Leary said, go listen to Songs in the Attic. I'd die to see THAT Billy Joel in concert. Okay, have a nice day. Long live the Joelster.
I guess the 70s were the best years that everything has perfect taste. So the music reached the best level accordingly. The progress in music mainly accelerated by the ignition during 70s.
0:49 begins the "most repeated" that lasts throughout the entirety of the song. The overwhelming majority of the people who came to this video stayed for the entire thing :)
It's not only Hollywood. Hollywood invaded NYC, Austin and where else? If I only could say Good-bye, maybe I'd live in Harmony and Peace. There is no greater Ego. Ego is our greatest downfall. Save me, BJ.
I love the lyric “that life is a series of hellos and goodbyes”
Me too, there’s something so sad about that line. Always gets to me.
Kind of has a new meaning now that you're not 20.
'You are not my fast gun anymore...", I've always loved that song, I've said that to many people, "say goodbye to Hollywood, say goodbye my baby..."
Billy Joel was and his amazing. He's so talented. He's a living legend.
I can't believe I'm still listening to this song from when I first heard it in the 70's! Unbelievable! Billy Joel's music will never die!
My favorite song from Turnstiles. Saw Billy at MSG in 1999. He blew the house down. My favorite singer. William Martin Joel.
Its stunning that his voice has not changed!
it got lower, it matured :)
@@egett And that's just okay, because it's natural. How wonderful if it still sounds great!!!
@@Blueridge1961 yes it's still powerful and clear
Yer Blues, not a whole octave. Maybe a step and a half.
It’s better now

my fav BJ song and he made some great music.....
LesSmith45 ditto
wow, it means you had been aware of BJ's talent before his name became so big.
Billy is so talented, people still want to hear this song and knowing that he is not a young man anymore, he made the song still work brilliantly

Billy joel tremendously talented. What a great piano player. Greg
The Great Billy Joel. A living legend
Let's all give a respectful bow to the medical genius who restored this great man's voice, and gave all of him back to us.
lebarosky , what are you talking about? Maybe you are mixing Billy with Elton? Elton had throat surgery.
Bill's still trying to fuck up his voice.
Billy is an absolute treasure, simply the best. His band is amazing!
That voice just as pure and clear as it was in the 70s...what a gorgeous talented man...he wrote songs that are all of our memories from those great years ❤❤❤
I saw Billy in concert years ago. It was "the best". He is a very talented man. Greetings from Canada. 🇨🇦👋
Glad to see I'm not the only one that
Loves thus song!!!
Always Billy!!! A spectacular music genius !!!
So happy I was there for this one! Billy Joel nails it once again!!!
All his songs tell a story. My all time favourite this one. Cannot beat the attic recording. Awesome

Wow he is on fantastic form here. Brilliant voice.

He created his own genre of music, Bill Joelism. Alot of hits, a Joy to behold, gold.
Flawless vocal of a classic. Cant wait to see him again live in Melbourne, December this year.
I'm going too, can't wait!
A wonderfully brilliant songwriter, an extremely talented musician! Ronnie Spectre did a wonderful version of this song too.
sorry Spector. ;)
So did Bette Midler. Great song!
Great song. Billy is tremendously talented and still going strong. Simply amazing.
Mastery...

I used to believe that old urban myth "it tears up his voice" Don't worry he has been doing it all along and continues to this day
@@ericlee2931 Well, there was about twenty years where he did not do it, so...
Saw him in '89 in Montreal.....had a hankering to find some live footage from this year and this blew my mind how great he still sounds.....time to catch Billy on the road again.
Timeless Billy Joel classic stellar production as always....
Remember kids work real hard and practice everyday and even if you look like Billy Joel you can have all the beautiful girls you'll ever need.
True words.
I remember seeing an article where he said he was so thoroughly out of his league with Christie...
I hate needing anything. Another Voice I couldn't live without. Maybe I needed you so much I hated you. God bless.
Songs in the Attic is my favourite album and this is my favourite track on it - live it's just superb!

Nice and full video of the song

Billy un Maestro así con mayúsculas. Genio, de lo mejor que dió la música de todos los tiempos.
Wish he would have played this at the Philips arena show! I was there!
Once again, MR nails it big on sax......
love this song the timeing and the feel of the song
Im seeing him tomorrow night in philly and am ecstatic!
Well how was it?
So many faces in and out of my life!!
Great line!!
A living musical legend. The East coast's gem of a musical story-teller. Jersey was good for something after all. :-)
He's actually a New Yorker. Close enough though.
If only you come to LA so I can see you perform this :(
He still has it!
The sound has not changed
Jong Hao absolute it has.
Have a listen to songs in the attic. Different key and a shit load more life. Besides which liberty devito and the others made this song.
Quality is the same, but he sings in lower key, however that is understandable, with years it's getting harder to vocalise.

Saw him in 2017 at Dodger Stadium. It felt so right when he sang this song in LA.
Tremendous performer and tremendous song! Love it!
I really love this song
Love u billy❤️
Mi admiración mas profunda para el gran Billy.Desde Argentina❤
"Life is A Series of " Hellos" and "Good-byes", I'm Afraid it's Time For "Good-Bye" Again... tragically true.
I want to billy joel japan come again!
Thank you so much for bringing this tune back. It is a great one. Was ecstatic to see it here in LA when you broke it out.
Perfect
Still amazing

Love This!
outstanding
Every person on that stage is incredibly talented especially Mark Rivera
BILLY: YOU HONESTLY SING THIS SONG BETTER NOW THAN YOU DID ANY OTHER TIME IN YOUR CAREER.
Thanks so much for this! Also thanks for it being complete
I love my piano man!
A great song to say goodbye to 2023 with.
Great lyrics..so true!

Real F''ing music.
Billy sang this at Camden Yards in Baltimore and I freaked!
Deine Stimme ist seit 40Jahren die gleiche. Ich bin ein Fan.
Uno de los mejores el gran Billy Joel y el inseparable Mark Rivera en el saxo .
Melhor do que antes ! ! !

Amazing song, who knows how many times I've actually played it on repeat. :)
The quality of this video is excellent. Is this on DVD?
Craig ‘The Ponzi Scheme’ Carton playing guitar in Billy’s band
The REAL Epic Sax man is at 3:00 and 4:47
Look up the performance of "...Italian Restaurant" at Jazz Fest 2013.
Mr Sax God really struts the stage in that performance too.
声量えぐいな。
I also like Ronnie Spector"s version.
Why are they pumping the synth strings so hard? I can't hear the piano parts!
