    Well being I was a teenager in the 90s, I already lost all my favourite singers. Kurt, Chris, Layne, Scott... all gone. So I already experienced it. It sucks to know I will never hear Scott Weiland release another song again, but such is life.

    The Mamas and The Papas' "I Saw Her Again" and Frank Sinatra's "You're Driving Me Crazy" are two songs that come to mind that have vocal mistakes that were left in and give the tracks part of their charm.

    Good point Anthony made , at 53 I am at that stage where " loss " , change, you just sort of become numb to it , that friend group you used to hang with , gone etc . Thing you used to do and engage with change .., you get to that point that the nostalgia sets in , you whether you want to or not become that old man just looking around with that smile .., been there , done that , wrote the book ;)

    It hit me hard when Alexis {forgive my misspelling). From Children of BODOM passed away. Really love that band. He died around my age…maybe a little younger). It also made me open my eyes to take better care of myself. This guy loved to drink and I was heading down the same road he was.
    In Flames In some ways died as well. The last album was killer and so different than the last two NICKELBACK sounding albums. Rip to all the musicians that we have lost.

    There is an instance of not being perfect on the new Tom Petty album. I think it fits the topic that you were talking about pretty good. It’s the last song on the last side and the microphone squeals, he waits a second the band keeps playing then he comes back in and sings the line again and finishes it. It’s awesome. That’s what makes it real. That’s what I like. I’ve heard all the polished albums. They’re great. But I crave anything live, now that Tom is gone. I don’t think there was a better live band in my opinion.

    I am grateful for any new music, but REO Speedwagon has called it quits, when Styx shuts it down I will feel the loss. Losing Edward VH hurt, as did Tom Petty. The fact that Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek are both gone and there will never be a new Cars album makes me sad. But time passes on, and you can't stop it. I believe Pink Floyd sung about that in Time.

    To me this has spawned a new topic for Brendon and Anthony.
    If you did a topic on do we think artists from the 60's and 70's actually had more staying power and lasted many decades like The Rolling Stones and Status Quo, compared to artists today they don't seem to last typically more than 5 years.
    Wouldn't that make a nice topic for you guys to go over and disgust with us.
    Over to you Brendon, what do you think?

  • @ChrisNorwood3

    This title took my brain straight to The Who. They are my absolute favorite band from the 60s and currently we are in that phase where Pete and Roger are both making claims for and against new music. I hope they make several more!

    There is a physical explanation for what they are talking about about perfect things not being "pleasant." The harmonic series of sounds explains that... there is also another theory "the uncanny valley" which is a bit what happens with AI. I think like you, everything perfect stinks!

    My question is with an artist like Prince who has a mega ton of unreleased songs in the vault and can have new stuff come out for quite a while would that change your opinion of what you would consider their last album ?

  • @georgeprice4212
    @georgeprice4212 2 месяца назад +1

    Eventually, every band will put out what becomes their final album. May not always be planned as such (Lynyrd Skynyrd immediately comes to mind), but it will happen…and sometimes, we actually get more music from the members (The Beatles, as an example) than as a band.

  • @HåkonOdinsson
    @HåkonOdinsson 2 месяца назад +3

    You mentioned Tom Petty…it’s a lot harder to take when the artist passes away, they have a last album that is not expected to be the last, and you realise, damn, not going to be anymore original music anymore…Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix for two examples
    Ok, in Hendrix’s case there are new stuff being released, but I mean ORIGINAL new stuff (like he did before his passing)

    Hey Brendon, what's up! Wanted to ask you, how do you go about listening to 12,000+ albums? I am a death/ black mostly extreme metal collector and I find it hard to jump about the collection pulling random albums. I tend to follow a sequence per genre or per country, but there must be a sequence to follow. For instance If I listen to Dio, I'll pick an album and then follow through with the next album after that and so on. That's just psychologically comforting in a way. Do you have a listening style, if you will? Or do you go basically on the momentum of what interests you and dash around the collection?

    Pumpkins new album ? great... again...at last...more than the sound,for me it's all about the craft...this time it's pretty solid...and still very original ...and well sequenced ...two kind of ballads...really sensitive and cool...Billy is still a kind of weirdo...his signature still unique.

    As much as I dig Phil Collins, I think he should retire. Maybe it is cathartic for him go out on stage and sit in a chair and not sound as he did 10 years ago, but it is painful to see him wither away and sound awful, when he is such a legendary drummer, song writer, producer etc. He should help his son become famous who is a fantastic drummer in his own write, write songs for his son, etc., and stay in the back ground except for very special limited appearances.
