I just started mine with Michael Jackson Thriller. Inherited some Billy Joel and and Elton John. Bought new some Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Madonna, Springsteen Got some ok Soundtrack Albums. Have about 17 albums to start. Just a beginner here Digital is great when i'm driving, but at home collecting physical media is the goal. Just starting with cds again and vinyl will be strictly for the music i LOVE. Love all genre! What a great hobby!!
I Did this exactly 1 year ago. I now own 150LPs and that is a nearly perfect collection to me. It's a mix of albums that I used to own (Adam & the Ants, The Jam, SLF), along with classics like (VH1, Led Zep, Rumours, SGT Pepper). Very happy with what I have. Play them all and love every single one. No filler albums this time around.
You have a great channel, Brendon. Anthony mentioned Morgan Wade a while ago and he got me into her music. Holy shit, she's amazing. Very grateful for that find - thanks Anthony! If I had to restart my collection, I'd buy Nirvana's Nevermind, U2's Achtung Baby, Queen's Innuendo and Alice Cooper's Trash. If I had some money left over, I'd look for Metallica's Ride the Lightning, Machine Head's Burn My Eyes and Deftones' Around the Fur.
Top Stones album for me, some folks don't understand the rough and rowdy production, the raw and loose quality of the tunes fits the Stones song craft perfectly! 70's Rolling Stones is as good as rock and roll gets!
Something Very Close To My Heart I'd have To Go Out And Purchase Straight Away To Begin The Collection Again Would Be... Pink Floyd's - A Momentary Lapse Of Reason & Animals. These Two Are Very Special For Me.
My first replacement albums would be those I can’t live without. 1-Jethro Tull Aqualung 2- Kiss Alive! 3- Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon 4- Jimmy Buffett Beaches Boats Bars and Ballads (box set) 5- Van Halen Debut album
Appetite for Destruction and Master of Puppets are the 2 albums I could never do without. Avenged Sevenfold Self Titled, Badmotorfinger, Vulgar Display of Power, Rust In Peace, Reign in Blood, Nevermind, Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and Blood Sugar Sex Magik are other albums on my short list. If something happened and I could only listen to these albums for the rest of my life, I think I would be fine with it. Their is something to suit nearly every mood for me. Guns N Roses, Metallica and Nirvana have to be in my collection. These 3 Bands are the reason I got into music. As I have gotten older, I have found that the heavier albums in my collectio are the ones I often come back to the most. Appetite was the first album that really blew my mind. The Black Album and Nevermind also completely moved me like few album have ever done after the first listen. Master of Puppets took a bit longer as It was the early 90s and I was only about 14 or 15 at the time and just staring to explore heavy music. Another album I still love to this day is Blood Sugar Sex Magik by RHCP. I don't listen to it all the time but when I do, it moves me. I think it comes very close to a masterpiece. I have done think I have listen to many albums that diverse yet so great. Melon Collie and The Infinate Sadness might just be the most diverse album I have ever listened to. Most Albums I listen to have a similar sound throughout the entire album.
Signals by Rush (my favorite Rush album) was one of the first albums I bought on my own as a 12 year old. I think I'd have to do it again. I also recall buying Van Halen II and U2's The Unforgettable Fire around that time.
Metallica's Black album. SIDE NOTE: i totally relate to Anthony saying he doesn't want the library anymore, i've never been a collector or a completist, i just want the things that move me, subtle but powerful difference.
I had to rebuild at 19 and went with cd only. I went with the following: 1. Dells "There is" 2. Dells "Passionate breezes" 3. Babyface "A closer look" 4. Isley Brothers "Beautiful ballads" 5. Wayman Tisdale "Power forward" The manner of which I built it over the first year was 1/4 compilations of substance for variety with an eye towards artists with out of print works, 1/4 current, 1/4 classic, 1/4 rare and classic. The emphasis was on solid reissues and the currents that would likely go out of print. Common titles were always bought second hand. All of this was on cd with a high emphasis on soul, jazz, and a bit of country. Core favorites were acquired within the first year. Special orders were common. A notebook of anything of note was where purchases were decided and not in record stores. Impulse buys were weighted against knowledge of what you'd be giving up as funds were limited. Today I'm at 80,000 and expanded to imports, some classic rock, and full catalog jazz from the 50's.
Bob Dylan Live 1975 The Rolling Thunder Revue ( Bootleg Series Vol 5). I've always said I'll grab my copy if there was a fire! I love Dylan's 70's era albums. Also, I agree with Mike live Grateful Dead over studio albums and I want to hear more from Mitchell on Canned Heat!!! What a band!
Thanks guys for all the great videos over the years. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 day. I will start with Immolation, here and after.Slayer South of heaven, motley Crue shout at the devil,Megadeth killing is my business and Immortal .
The first band i ever got into was Whitesnake with the 1987 album. Once i found out that David Coverdale had been in Deep Purple, i started listening to them. From there Rainbow was next followed by Dio, Black Sabbath etc.... but for me, if i had to start again with one album, there's only one choice. Led Zeppelins Physical Graffiti all the way. It's the most diverse and epic album ever made. There are many albums by many artists that rock my world and have special memories for me but there's something about Physical Graffiti that stands out from the rest.
Basically did this as was in flood in 2016 in which I lost over 150 CD's & Cassettes w/ numerous cases to hold them in , and lost my camper and dang near my life , and was lifelined to Jackson Tenn. after evaluating I decided to redo my collection with what had left to certain groups going back to 70's -90's my favorite era of music and my favorite to build another collection , my first Quest in Rebuild was my Joe Satriani Collection of 20 +studio & live albums and my starter CD was , Professor Satchifunkulis and the Musterion of Rock , and since have rebuilt w/recent upgrades of Black Sabbath, Dio , & Heart Collection.
I have Parallels as my second fav Fates album. They are so important to progressive metal and I also dig their early, straight up metal stuff. I've played the hell out of Asbury Park and Out Of Time, and the lyrics on Asbury Park show what's to come with The Boss writing song after song with deeply detailed and introspective lyrics - the man is a poet, a truly gifted lyricist with a keen eye for the human experience! I'm going to check out Midlake and Lonely Wild. Cheers!
I am with Anthony , I purged a lot about 4 years ago , went from like 3500 records , 2000 CD's , 1200 tapes , ..... down to 1100 records , about 120 CD's , 100 tapes .., however .., erhmm if I pass a record store , thrift store , garage sale , somehow a record or two always comes home .., lmao
I would get that one too...strange that of all Ozzy albums this is the one I play the most even though I never though it would end up beeing my favourite, somehow it just is. And its hard to choose between especially early ozzy records😀
@@nuzztuzz it’s my favorite, I’ve been listening to it pretty regularly since I bought it in 81, with Ozzy’s vocals and Randy’s playing it’s just a fantastic album. Plus it was my first time seeing Ozzy. Rock on 🤘
The brutal loss of Randy hurts deeply to this day - on Diary' his creativity and skill were in full blossom! Title track gives me goose bumps on goose bumps - jaw dropping guitar chops and tones!
lol, that’s exactly what I’d do if I had the money Brandon, buy entire catalogues. I’m a bit of a completist as well. I’d start over again, IF I could have the corresponding excitement I felt at the time of finding the album/single
Fates Warning "Perfect Symmetry " I own 3 copies of it on cd right now 😄 Springsteen "Greetings from Asbury Park" REM "Out of Time" Midlake "Courage of others" Lonely Wild "Chasing White Light"
Trying to figure out the first album to buy in such a situation is a real conundrum! I actually experienced losing many (but not all) of my music collection twice before due to theft, but I had a much smaller collection then. Now I have roughly 200 albums (CD and cassette), which I've largely acquired through used record shops. I would have to start by selecting my favorite artists from several different genres so I couldn't choose just one. I've noticed that there are a few albums in my collection that are go-to choices when I can't decide what I want to listen to, such as Conway Twitty's "Silver Anniversary Collection" and Shenandoah's "Greatest Hits." I also have certain artists that I must have in my collection when I get in a mood to listen to them -- these include Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Judy Collins, and Andy Williams just to name five. So, I think I would probably need a bare minimum of 25 albums to keep me satisfied in the short run!
Also Type O Negative, any of them but mostly Bloody Kisses. Hey I appreciate that Anthony doesn’t swear so much anymore. I like him a lot better now in most every way.
Same album that hooked me as a 7 year old in 1974. Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon. My friends older brother was playing it in his basement with the black lights and velvet posters and i was gobsmacked. RUSH'S 2112 would be number 2.
An ace way to start my day! I'm with you guys on this one. Stuff that moves me, edited discographies (if funds are unlimited) and new stuff I've discovered. So, a bit of Madonna, deffo Ten and Vs and as for new stuff, a young rapper called Ren and a band called Wunderhorse. Side note: haven't watched your videos in a while, loving the facial hair, Brendon! Side note 2: Morgan Wade of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fame? (just did a quick Google, wasn't sure who it was).
Maybe the packaging would be a big factor in this. Whatever record has the coolest stuff inside to read and look at. Yeah, that would be a good strategy.
I traded my entire CD collection to various record stores years ago after I transferred all of them onto an external hard drive. I've regretted doing that ever since and am now buting CDs again since vinyl has rejuvenated and become very expensive.
Shotgun (Messiah Shotgun) - 'Live Down Decadencia Drive' would be my number one pickup followed by a completely different end of the spectrum album...Simple Minds- 'New Golden Dream (81,82,83,84) Both of these albums moved me immensely and continue to do so every time I play them.
Tom Petty Damn the Torpedoes was the first CD I ever bought but if I had to start over it would be Supertramp Crime of the Century My all-time favorite band.
Great topic! A couple years ago I had somewhere around 250 cds. Now I have around 1500. I have all the cds that I want but sometimes I find something that is a nice surprise. I enjoy them all immensely but if I was starting over....I don't know if I have the energy to even start. I might finally look into streaming.
First off Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and second, to answer the question, five albums I'd rebuild with. 1. John Mellencamp - Pink Houses 2. Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic 3. Van Halen - Van Halen II 4. Garth Brooks - In Fences 5. Pearl Jam - Ten There are a TON more I'd want to buy, but at the end of the day the ones I picked are all ones that just take me away whether that be to a darker place, a place of nostalgia, something peaceful or something energetic.
I think you mean Garth Brooks "No Fences" -- that was the first Garth album I bought many years ago when he only had two! Back then (early 90s), there was no streaming and CDs were about $15 and tapes $10. I remember debating at the record store between his self-titled debut album (since I really wanted "The Dance") and "No Fences," which had "The Thunder Rolls" and "Two of a Kind, Workin' on a Full House." Ultimately, I got "No Fences," but now thanks to used record stores I can get CDs for about $4 and I have five Garth albums!
@@LoriLeePattonMusic yes that's the one! My mistake on the typo, I've been listening to his stuff since I was a toddler (I'm a little over 20 now) and never actually got my hands on a physical copy sadly. Plan on buying one following the holidays though! Such a beautiful album, Two of a Kind, The Thunder Rolls, Friends in Low Places, Unanswered Prayers... my god it's perfect. My mother and I actually went to see him perform in Vegas back in May, kind of a bucket list thing for us, one of the most special moments of my life. Cheers! :))
I had to really think of this, but I would say Purple Rain by Prince. Followed up by Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin. From then on, I don't know. Like you said, I would have to be in the record store to decide what to buy next after those two.
Are we doing one or five? Besides Bride, my other four are: 1) Operation:Mindcrime, Queensryche 2) A Liquid Earth, Novella 3) Time’s End, SAINT 4) Martin Simson’s Destroyer Of Death
Happy Thanksgiving to any of you who celebrate and Happy Thursday to anyone who doesn't. The album I would get if my collection disappeared would be Dirt by Alice in Chains. It's a masterpiece by my favorite band
Metallica ...And Justice for All. And interesting chat about streaming. While I have a physical collection and will never get rid of it, I do stream quite a bit. I got into playlists and editing catalogues, but now I love editing actual albums. Getting rid of those songs I'm tired of or never liked. And when I do that I tend to change the order of the songs so it's still sequenced in a good way.
I'm one of those guys with 35,000 records. I'm quite a bit older than you two but if I lost it all.... I don't think I'd have the strength to start all over again. I'd probably grab one of the benches down at the beach and blankly stare out across the water for a couple of years.
I'd grab Rush 2112 and Cheap Trick Dream Police and later start with Bon Scott era Ac/DC and then overall I'd for sure I'd have a much smaller collection than I have now....
Just had a listen to Anthony's Johnny Castle album and quite like it. Everyone hears things different and don't know if Anthony will like this but to me it felt like Springsteen kinda folk mixed with Alice In Chain's Sap ep with a dash of Black Crowes' She Talks To Angels feel to it, thumbs up very cool
On sugar beet field with cousin we decided bought "thriller and let's dance" ...then went bout 30years i bought them again, eric clapton:money and ciragettes and whitesnake was on tdk d cassette and i bought them right away when i got cd player..and "piece of mind"..and even today i don't argue with these...✌️
Yngwie's Rising Force or Trilogy album, should just about do it. 👌 I have the Japanese, first pressings of all of Yngwie's Polydor albums. If i lost them,in a fire... i'd have to drink my way out of flagrant depression. 🤭
So like you say how it is currently...on a Bolan kick at the mo so my five albums would be (in with a bullet) Electric Warrior, Kiss - Alive, Rush - Moving Pictures, Bowie - Ziggy and Dylan - Bringing it all Back Home. Tomorrow it's probably quite different.
Something that is specifically better on physical media--like a concept album--would be one of my first choices. I think perhaps Dream Theater's Six Degrees or Met pt. 2. Start with things that just don't work as well broken up.
I have a slightly different take. I wouldn't take my desert island discs either. I would search for those rarities that I treasure so much. I can always stream my favorites by my favorite bands (ACDC, Floyd, Stones, Maiden, Paul Simon), but I would need to find my Pajama Slave Dancers, Six Dancing Women, The Fleshtones, The Long Ryders, The Johnny's, The Lilac Time. Most of these are hard to find on streaming channels.
Hey Anthony. I started listening to Morgan Wade and she's great. If you haven't heard it, check out Tenille Townes Lemonade Stand. I think you'll like it.
Anthony your new album shines with captivating melodies, heartfelt lyrics, it’s a joy from start to finish.

Awesome video guys! I’m streaming Johnny Castle now, SOUNDS KILLER!! Congrats on the album! 🙌
I fell off the U2 train after Joshua Tree.
When I liquadated my collection in '98, the first thing I bought 10 years later was Crime of the Century
Thinning out the collection my JT has to go...first four albums for me and they're done.
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti.
Yup! Same here
Great album
Yep, that or Exile on Main Street for me.
Top Stones album for me, some folks don't understand the rough and rowdy production, the raw and loose quality of the tunes fits the Stones song craft perfectly! 70's Rolling Stones is as good as rock and roll gets!
Great thumbnail pic man, thanks for bringing us all together with your videos, cheers!
In the last three weeks, the reissue of Bush’s Sixteen Stone was a must-add. Complete 90s nostalgia, and a great album to boot.
Is it any different from my og pressing? Or the 20th or 25th anniversary reissues?
Slave to the Grind, my favorite album of all time.
Blew my mind how heavy it was compared to Skid Row debut! Still does - top shelf metal from start to finish!
Easy answer for me. The first record I would buy is Queen's A Night at the Opera; my favorite album of all time.
What a concept. What a scenario to be put into.
If I had to start over my album would be Peter Gabriel’s (Security) record. It is so diverse.

Ultimately, I got "No Fences," but now thanks to used record stores I can get CDs for about $4 and I have five Garth albums!
Besides Bride, my other four are:
1) Operation:Mindcrime, Queensryche
2) A Liquid Earth, Novella
3) Time’s End, SAINT
4) Martin Simson’s Destroyer Of Death
Anthony, Peter Murphy "Deep" and "Cascade" are the only two I really need...but I own everything 😅
When I went from tapes to cd's back in 1990, the first cd I bought was Rust in Peace. It had recently come out and it was my introduction to MEGADETH.
I’d buy the album that started it all for me and started my love for music.
Green Day - Dookie
I'm one of those guys with 35,000 records. I'm quite a bit older than you two but if I lost it all.... I don't think I'd have the strength to start all over again. I'd probably grab one of the benches down at the beach and blankly stare out across the water for a couple of years.
Haha! Most all Dead Heads I know say the same thing. The studio albums exist, but not for listening. Get the bootlegs!
The first album I’d buy is Bob Seger - albums, and greatest hits volume and and two along with the live albums 😎
I am an eclectic person with music, and have so many CDs and Vinyl, but I would start with the Bon Jovi albums to rebuild my collection if I lose it.
"Stoner Witch" or "Houdini" by Melvins
How damn underrated are The Melvin's?
On sugar beet field with cousin we decided bought "thriller and let's dance" ...then went bout 30years i bought them again, eric clapton:money and ciragettes and whitesnake was on tdk d cassette and i bought them right away when i got cd player..and "piece of mind"..and even today i don't argue with these...✌️
Journey - Frontiers
I'd have to go with the Uncle Sally - World of Hurt album. Can only be found at ebay....
And the new johnny Castle - before the flood album....
Born to run Springsteen😊
Reign in Blood! To this day the greatest brutal thrash album ever.
So true.. 🤗
Man, you stole my answer!
Be def in there for me if I was in a thrash mood
Thin Lizzy self titled. But I would rebuy the entire catalog first
Yngwie's Rising Force or Trilogy album, should just about do it. 👌
I have the Japanese, first pressings of all of Yngwie's Polydor albums.
Type O Negative - October Rust
Mmmmmm yeah. The green 💚 man's masterpiece
Something that is specifically better on physical media--like a concept album--would be one of my first choices. I think perhaps Dream Theater's Six Degrees or Met pt. 2. Start with things that just don't work as well broken up.
The entire Thin Lizzy catalogue
Dio: Last in line 👍🤘🔥
RIP master RJD. 🙏
Nice pick! Currently listening to Sacred Heart, marveling at Ronnie's vocals! Vivian Campbell was a beast on first three Dio albums!
Emphasis should always be on rarities. Find the common stuff cheaply. Weigh impulse buys against what you truly want; keep a notebook.
The Replacements-Pleased To Meet Me
I’d have to go with
Slipknot - Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses
Slipknot - Iowa
Motionless in White - Disguise
Ghost - Meliora
Ghost - Impera
Hey Anthony. I started listening to Morgan Wade and she's great. If you haven't heard it, check out Tenille Townes Lemonade Stand. I think you'll like it.
Dylan blonde on blonde 😎🇬🇧
The Doors-The Doors
Kip Winger This Conversation Seems Like A Dream
I would start with The Stranglers' No More Heroes
1. G N R- Appetite
2. The Beatles- Abbey Road
3. Vain- No Respect
4. Alice Cooper- Schools Out
5. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Californication
1. Zeppelin IV
2. The Wall
3. The Doors (first)
4. Volume Four (black sabbath)
5. The White Album.
The Jam The Gift
Def Leppard - Hysteria
That's tough. From the Supremes to Donna Summer or Michael Jackson, I don't know. That's hard.
Def Leppard Pyromania. My favorite album of all time
I'd buy back Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same" and ABBA's "Super Trouper". They started me on the path to everything.
Equinox by Styx
Van Halen - Debut
Great album
Captain Sensible's Women And Captains First is the first album I ever bought and would be the first I would buy again.
Bruce Leroy! "WHO'S THE MASTER? SHO-NUF!"
