Hope you all enjoy and hopefully learn something out of this. Thanks for watching! Exoticars19 on instagram: / exoticars19 My personal instagram: / brandonmeek19

      Why don't you leave it in neutral with handbrake up when parking. Avoids potentially driving forward if you turn the car on without engaging the clutch.

    dang man i got a manual brz and i didn't even know how to drive it. My dad had to get it from the dealer ship for me. he had to drive it home for me. he would teach me 2 hours a day for about 3 days.. and after that i had to take it for my self because i had to give back my old car back. i live in LA where its bumper to bumper all day everyday. it was a very interesting experience. i hated it at first i kept messing up. i felt like people were looking at me but then after driving it everyday its gotten to a more natural feeling. sometimes when i get into an auto car i press on the resting pad thinking its a clutch lmfao just a quick story its annoying and irritating at first specially in an up hill. but its worth it you feel like a complete bad ass and not only that but driving a manual is a skill that you should have in case of emergencies and what not.

      Going to probably have a very similar experience next month when I trade in my 3 series for a 370z, Toronto traffic is going to be annoying similar to your LA traffic.

      ivan acuna I feel like I'm going through your exact experience!! I recently started driving a gt86 and it's really embarrassing when I stall. I'm currently trying to find the balance between the gas and clutch to get a nice smooth start but it really helps to see I'm not the only one with this problem! I really felt like I was alone in this situation :)

    One thing... i'm a 17 year mechanic, and something that most people (including you) say, this is the correct way.... when your press the clutch you are DISENGAGING the clutch (disconnecting the engine from the wheels), when the pedal is let out (released) you are ENGAGING the clutch (connecting the engine to the wheels). Just most people don't realize this.
    Playing with the clutch on FLAT ground (like you do) is how I teach people.
    All in all, great video man!

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  7 лет назад +10

      Don't take this the wrong way, but why are you watching this video as a "17 year mechanic"? Just curious...

      Lol I'm a little late to this one but actually yeah, you wouldn't believe how much better I got at managing a manual when I was learning just by having it described to me the way you describe it. once I had understood what the clutch/and pedal are doing inside the car I got a much better understanding of what I need to be doing.

      The thing is, you have 2 rotating disks that you need to interlock... so, low gas and slowly release the clutch
      If you are in an incline road, put a bit more gas.... it's really simple... in 5 minuts you learn it... in diesel cars, way easier, the clutch has some power, put the clutch half way and a bit of gas then you can speed up if you want.. always in 1 gear or reverse.., in gasoline cars, the clutch has no power, so you have to use a bit more gas as you release the clutch... find the balance betwen the clutch and the gas pedal, and you are set... its fairly simple.

    Best way to learn is by going out by yourself, knowing the basics of course. I had to learn myself. If you set your mind to something, you'll do it. First 3-4 days, I stalled about 5-8 times...couldn't get smooth shifts. I kept on practicing until I got it, now I can fully drive a manual car 👌🏽 and hate driving my 2017 Ford Fusion, which is an automatic. I drive my brother's car more than I do mine 😂. At first it's annoying and it makes you mad, but once you learn it you'll hate automatic transmissions.

    • @DarkManzPK
      @DarkManzPK 8 лет назад

      the ideal RPM for chanching shifts is 3000..... it has enough power to take the next shift... for saving gas, 2500 is ideal....
      But you can shift at 4 or 5000 RPM if you want you just waste more gas... to gain speed fast to overtake, just let the gear push the car, till 4000 or more.

    Also a Subaru owner here! i feel bad for owning such an sporty car at a young age; I feel spoiled about it oops. Anyways I'm still learning how to drive manual and my dad wanted me to practice driving in the actual street; which of course I dread and hope I never stall. Guess what happened? I stalled multiple times, one of them being when I thought the car died but I had the clutch engaged; I panicked so badly and tried to start the car when it was already on; that poor starter. I also managed to make the car shake violently because I let go of the clutch quickly. I still need much more practice and this video is very helpful! I don't know when I'm going to drive again but I'll keep this video in mind when I do!

    Letting out the clutch slowly while switching gears can put wear and tar on your transmission and clutch, witch causes it start to slip and wear out.

    For those of you who havent learned yet, I suggest you learn on a car that has a heavy clutch and is somewhat difficult to bring the shofter into the correct gear. Every other stick shift car will be easy as hell in comparison.

    I messed up my left knee when I was in middle school and I've been wanting to practice driving a car that has a manual transmission. Do you think it would be a good idea for me to get a car with a manual transmission? Also great video. A friend of mine introduced me into driving manual but it wasn't as informative as this.

    In days of simple cars i would set the tickover slight high, then when use to the car, would wind it back down to normal.

    To get off smoothly, you have your foot on the clutch fully, let your foot off the brake, then a little gas, then start releasing the clutch?

  • @asedaaboagye5877
    @asedaaboagye5877 8 лет назад

    Thanks for the video, very informative! I know what you meant even if you stumbled over your words sometimes. :) I heard that it's better to remain in gear when decelerating, rather than just coasting to a stop. This is because you no longer have "full control" and I believe in the UK, you fail your driving test for that.

    While giving gas while having the clutch down and slowly releasing it, will this damage the clutch or hurt the car in anyway?

  • @ZiiExx

    When you put some gas to raise the RPM's in your "big tip" part of the video, do you take your foot off the gas when releasing the clutch when going into 1st?

    Nice and reasonable video of how we should drive a stick shift ! Well i have a JDM STI model 2003 ; when passing through a roundabout in which gear should it normally be ?

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  7 лет назад +1

      Depends on the car and speed, pretty much whichever gear that the RPMs are low, but not bogging the engine.

    When coasting, do we let go of the clutch or just keep pressing it until we get back into gear? I'm guessing we hold down the clutch, shift to neutral and let go of the clutch(coasting now). Then we press the clutch and shift into 3rd or something. Is that how it is?
