2016 - 2024 Toyota Tacoma Amp and Sub Install

  • Parts linked in the description below!
    Watch a full tutorial as a 2020 Toyota Tacoma will have a Rockford Fosgate Powered subwoofer added behind the rear passenger seat in the cargo area. This amp / sub combo is compact and fits great without compromising space in the tacoma cab. We will integrate this powered sub to an existing factory radio.
    *Note - if you have JBL, you already have the factory 8" subwoofer located in the cargo space behind the rear seats. It's a Dual Voice Coil subwoofer, and can be replaced with another 8" sub. The JBL amplifier is attached to the enclosure which powers the entire audio system. Either you will have to remove the entire enclosure and factory amp and replace all, or install a sub in the driver side cargo space with a very small slim subwoofer box.
    This video applies to Toyota Tacoma models for years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. This video also includes amplifier wiring, installation, and testing.

      you can test the output of a single channel by using an ohm's equation.. example: if a sub is rated for 100w RMS, and you want to feed it the whole 100w from an amp, you will do some quick math with your calculator - lets assume the speaker has 4 ohm resistance - 100w multiply by 4 ohm is 400.. then get the square root of 400 - this numer is 20. what you will do is turn up your head unit volume to about 75% of it's "max" with all your speaker wires disconnected, and your eq and bass boost settings the way you want them. if you have a bass knob, turn it all the way up. with your engine running to ensure a full 14v to your amp, use a voltage meter to test Sub channel of the amp by turning the GAIN control until your meter reads 20 volts A.C.
      be sure to first disconnect all the speaker wire from the amp!. *also, if your speaker rated for 100w RMS is fed from an amp that only puts out 50w RMS per channel, you would test for 50W or the max RMS of the AMP!
      it's best to have an amp that puts out more power than the speaker is rated for, it's more efficient and allows the amp to work under it's rated power, staying cool, not working your alternator/battery to death

      Called a line out converter, steps down the signal from a high level amplified signal, to a low level signal for an amplifier input. Some amps can take a high level input, some amps require that as they can only take an RCA low level input. In most cases, yes you will need it.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  Год назад +2

      If you use the same sub we did, no amp turn on wire is needed (we only showed it because viewers may use a different amp / sub setup and wanted to cover all basis). The sub we used has a switch on the amp where you can set it to audio or DC offset instead of REM. It should auto turn on when you play audio.

    Thanks to your video I have my box installed! It took me a few hours. I had the Rockford 12” powered sub from a previous car, but essentially the same. I had to place it on the floor facing the rear between the front passenger and rear seats. I followed your instructions to the letter after purchasing the wolf harness and line-out converter. Eventually I will buy the 8” and swap it in behind the rear seat. For others, I set the pots on the converter halfway (arrows pointing up). 2023 Trail Ed (SR5). UPDATE: line-out converter pots set to half is too high. Pots at half I have to keep my bass knob set close to zero or it is too high. Without yet lowering the line-out converter pots, I would guess the pots should be set no higher than 1/4.

      Totally agree. I don't know much about audio terminology and I'm completely lost. I have my power wire ran and ground set up. Took me 2 hours just to do all that. He fails to mention you need to basically remove the back seats to get the ground wire installed. I managed to do it by only removing the bolts in the video and sanding the holes from there without removing the bracket in the center of the backseats to completely pull the seat out but it was a PITA.
      Now I've got the power wire and ground set and ready, but have no idea what to do from here. To install the LOC or not? He also doesn't go over the wiring going into the AMP very well so I'm not sure how to set those up. There's a hole in the center of the + and - on the plug for the bottom part of the amp. Does a wire go there? Don't see one in the vid ,but what is it there for then?
      I have so many questions...
