This is a relatively new channel...they are growing. They will be at that number and more in time. But I agree. Love this video in particular. Very very helpful...Would love to see a series on debunking common golf myths!!
I know this isn’t the traditional club fitting video but these are the types of videos I think will really set you guys apart from other channels. It takes golfers several years of playing and experimenting to learn these things and this video will help eliminate that learning curve. Thanks for a great video.
No one gives more insight into how clubs actually work. The most informative channel around. If a 20 mph headwind is dropping Matt's swing down 30-40 yds. when hit low on the face, imagine what it can do to someone with an average swing?
Just joined Cleveland Golf Club...a links in the NE of UK.. Dont think the wind ever lets up! These vids are brilliant and are gonna be saved into a playlist to return to when i get fed up of hitting 150yd drives into the wind 🙃... thanks fellas, great content!
Andrew Rice has done some work on his own in terms of wind effect on iron shots. His working theory for into the wind is every 10 mph is make the shot play 10 yards longer per 100 yards. Example: 20 mph wind on a 150 yard shot makes it play 30 yards longer.
Who put a thumbs down for this video. This is so interesting this video and a massive eye opener. I play at a course that is windy everyday right on the ocean and it blows 20-30 km and more and I do always tee it down but will be playing today and will try the opposite. Thanks for this always putting out quality content. If you ever get a chance to come to Western Australia play at the cut golf course.
Tim Tuinier some troll douche nozzle downvotes every one of their videos. some people have nothing better to do with their time than grind axes for no reason. i love everything txg does. f the hater!
Tim I play out in Wyoming and Colorado mainly for the past couple of years. Big change from southeast golf. It's always windy out here. I used to tee it down or not even try to take driver.
Joes Blogs haha only just saw this. That’s how I feel most weeks but you get used to it. But yeah back 9 is a bastard hole 12 wind off the right and I am lefty so one shot ended up on the 17th
This is one of the best videos of your guys that I’ve watched. I do exactly this and it spins up. I only started playing golf this June but I am loving it. Learning every round and I will try this tomorrow as it 20-25mph winds in Bournemouth, UK tomorrow 👌🏻. Thank you guys
What I don’t get is 5,300 views and only 332 likes and 1 asshat with a dumbs down. By far the best content on RUclips! Keep up the great work!! Great test showing not to tee it low into the wind
Yes! can't wait to see the irons/wedges and also the addition of some either high spinning or low spinning golf balls and that whole package together with wind!! Also, really can't wait to see the elevation series. I live in Northern California, where there are a TON of golf courses with elevation changes up and down (around 60-70% of the courses I play) and even more difficult to choose a club with addition of wind to the elevation change. LOVE THE CHANNEL (knowledge is power) Thanks, Nate Kyle
This is the best golf channel on RUclips hands down. Good, honest material with incredible knowledge and care for the consumer! Makes me wish Canada wasn't so far away!
just when i think i know a thing or two about playing this game, you guys go and blow my mind again. awesome video, and something i’ll definitely keep in mind. it’s interesting that the same high launch low spin is best for into and downwind. i guess the only use for the low tee driver is when you need a higher spin, straighter but shorter fairway finder.
This is great insight. There are days that I got so frustrated at the range due to distance loss from the wind. I didn't think that it would have so much effect but now I know. I often tee up a little low, will have to do some experiment myself. Great video, thanks a lot.
Excellent overview and great job of addressing and slaying a few of the myths when hitting into the wind with data. Makes me understand much better how we under appreciate the impact of the wind on the golf ball. Well done and please repeat with impact of wind and elevation with short irons.
Nice informal video with a casual feel as always. Defo believe you need more exposure on RUclips as I found you gents by random 3-4 months ago and recommend you to anyone who is interested in improving their golf. All the best
Very interesting guys. Opened my eyes a bit to the old thought of teeing it low on windy days. Seeing how that impacts irons and different balls will be great to see.
Great video, my home course is up on the hills close to the sea and we get variable and strong winds, this has helped me understand why the intuitive solution isn't helping!
This is so interesting!! I admit I thought low was always best. So looking forward to irons too! Please do a selection of clubs too like 5, 7 and p wedge. Super vid chaps, loved it!
i really like yall videos, its crazy how 300 rpm in backspin make a difference against the wind. great video! come up with a series named "golf mythbusters 2019" i watch every single video of yours but i would put the golf mythbusters on repeat... lol
I told you guys I would keep you updated w/the new shaft I got from you guys in Orlando (Accra mid launch). Between the shaft and grip change that Ian gave me, on the mends of getting my drives straightening out. Thanks so much again for your help. An experience I'll truly never forget ! Next up,(hopefully this summer) getting fit for new irons. Srixon 585's or Mizuno JPX 919 forged ?(maybe MP's)😊👍
Great video guys, I have been playing around with these ideas lately and generally have always teed it a little lower. I think it is more of a mentality thing for me, wanting to see the ball closer to the ground. Have had good results with teeing it higher and trying to sweep it and now seeing this video I'll stick with that method, well I'll try to. 😉
Would love to see driver side wind and also irons in the wind. Even putter in the wind would really be eye opening if possible guys. Great work as usual.
With all due respect...the data is truly flawed. Why do I say that? I challenge Matt..nay any good golfer, to maintain a such a well-balanced body posture with 20 mph headwind on a tee box swinging at such speed (ie 120+ club head speed & 170+ ball speed). Hence, the resulting data is far better than in reality. All that aside, the information provided, at its root, is priceless. Outstanding insight for us golfers in what to do and not to do. TXG simply rocks!
Being in Orlando for PGA Show 2019, you should try to find a course to do some of this testing. Sunday January 20 is supposed to have 20-30mph winds with higher gusts.
Likely a player would be able to get the strike higher on the face with a 3 wood and square the face easier leading to lower spin and better performance through the wind. Any shot, even something like a lower stinger is going to perform worse into the wind if the spin gets high.
Great demo, guys! I'm definitely interested in learning more about the effects of the weather on golf shots. Currently, I'm facing cold and humid conditions, which seem to be double teaming my driver distance. It's either that or I'm getting old. :)
Great video, especially as I’m off to play in 50mph wind this morning - will I be brave enough to try going for high launch low spin🤔😬🙈. Should we go for high spin down wind🤔
This is very interesting. I typically tee it lower into 20mph wind and can get around 300. If I tee it normal or higher, then my spin gets out of control. I was just fitted by TM with the lagolf shaft with an avg of 2100 rpm.
Keep it up guys. Love hearing what you have to share. Made a huge impact on my driver choice last year and how I see that fitting process. Ended up moving from a very low spin head to a very stable one and was a great improvement for me. With that in mind, I am a bit confused about the effect sidespin has in combination with the tee it high with low backspin into the wind. Matt’s ball looked really stable on the low spin shots he hit and seems to be counter intuitive...maybe it was just the comparison from the terrible results from the low face strike? Would love to hear your input!
TXG Tour Experience Golf. Yes, that makes simple sense...have to hit a good shot into the wind regardless of the strike. Matt commented he was uncomfortable with that low tee. Will be very interested in your future ball test in the wind!
Really interesting video! The modern equipment and balls yielding low spin and gearing effects has changed the premise of the wind ball with the driver. Question - Matty, what have you been doing to increase your club-head speed?
Another great video 👍🏽 on a par 5 with a lot of headwind why not hit a 2 (driving) iron (lower flight by itself) and get in 3 on the green....still a chance for birdie or par ....😇🏌️👍🏽
Please do more of these tests! Question: 2 curved shots, both with same face/path/aoa, but with different strike points (low on face and high on face). Which one goes more offline into the wind? Is the "backspin stabilization" still as powerful? Related: was the wider dispersion with the low tee just due to more inconsistent face delivery?
Great vid! With the irons and wedges. Are you going to vary the swing speed? From what I've heard or have seen if you want to keep the ball flight down it helps to swing a tad bit slower. Can't remember if you've touched on that in a previous video.
Is GC Quad able to calculate the amount of spin added to the ball during flight while going into the wind? I understand that it is able to show the spin off the face of the club but a ball that is higher in the air for longer will spin more (hence ballooning ball flights). Just curious if GC Quad is able to effectively measure the amount of spin added to the ball instead of just measuring the loss of ball speed. Thanks and love the videos.
always played "when breezy swing easy" so you have to modify that so it keeps spin down. Be interested to see how Matt went low tee and dialing back his speed so it spun less
Out of pure curiosity, what about teeing lower downwind? If that tends to spin it up the face a little, will it float enough to compare well to a high-launch/low-spin tee shot?
What about teeing the driver high but low launch i.e. change angle of attack and keep strike higher on face? Also can you do a comparison of driving iron into wind?
Would a low launching low spinning shot like Matts 7 degree shot he hit be better into a 20mph headwind had he been able to lower his spin loft to reduce the spin from 2700 to 2000?
Top class info, So if I have an adjustable driver normally set at say 10.5 Would it be a good idea to set it at 9.5 and tee the ball up if I'm about to play in windy conditions, or would this be an over compensation ?
Does the simulation model different wind speeds at different heights? In the real world it won't be a constant 20mph at both ground level and 100ft in the air.
Bit of a misread! Probably was about 123-124, (based on ball speed which was accurate) for some reason the GC Quad has been reading clubhead speeds a bit high with this Epic Flash head
Well, that vid just destroyed most of the things I do playing in the wind, defo staying in the Bar next time it's blowing a hooley! One thing I notice occasionally and never understand why it happens when playing with the wind behind, is sometimes the wind seems to push the Ball down rather than launching skywards. Is that a spin tilt issue at work?
To keep ball down into the wind just swing with less speed tee it low and because of the slower swing speed the ball will not have as much backspin there for the wind will not eat it up as much and you will have a more Penetrating ball flight
Depends on the swing Aaron, for a lot of people they will end up getting a bit steeper with that type of swing and end up putting extra spin on the ball.
I struggle to understand how you do not have 250K subscribers. This is by far the best golf content on youtube. Well done as always boys!

Great video. Many thanks.
That's a great video, guys! Thanks a lot!
A great video! I do wonder about the effect on clubhead speed when playing into the stiff breeze... Not to mention the mentality of it all...
Awesome video. No wonder I lose so much yardage into wind, I'm launching 14-15 spinning it 26-2700.
Very interesting. Thanks for the video guys.
Amazing stuff!
I wonder how this translates to irons. Good question is how much higher can you go before the wind speed is significantly faster? Excellent video!!
Great insight. Will have to try !👍
Love your content! Do you have anh videos on how a crosswind effects a ball
Great video, especially as I’m off to play in 50mph wind this morning - will I be brave enough to try going for high launch low spin🤔😬🙈. Should we go for high spin down wind🤔

Partly that some of the higher tee shots were just better swings, and had less exaggerated spin axis tilt
TXG Tour Experience Golf. Yes, that makes simple sense...have to hit a good shot into the wind regardless of the strike. Matt commented he was uncomfortable with that low tee.
Will be very interested in your future ball test in the wind!
Your 2nd best video, hitting the ball smoother is the old way of hitting into the wind, what about cross winds?
Will do that in a future video for sure!
Would be nice to see a video that shows the difference you get at different sea levels
will be doing that for sure
love this info.
Really interesting video! The modern equipment and balls yielding low spin and gearing effects has changed the premise of the wind ball with the driver.
Question - Matty, what have you been doing to increase your club-head speed?
Lessons with Larry Cheung, and time in the gym
Great stuff guys. Can you do one with irons? Club up? 2 clubs up? Ball position? Are there some rules of thumb?
Yup we will for sure.
A breeze we call 20 mph in Scotland!
Bob J you sound like Yoda
Great video. Does the GCQUAD software correlate to what one would see outdoors with a Trackman?
Jeffrey Yoder we have an in depth video on this coming soon.
Another great video 👍🏽 on a par 5 with a lot of headwind why not hit a 2 (driving) iron (lower flight by itself) and get in 3 on the green....still a chance for birdie or par ....😇🏌️👍🏽

the lower spin shot will curve more, and yes worse dispersion with the low tee was due to inconsistent striking and face delivery

Can you show the impact of a side wind next? I never know how much to adjust my aim by in that situation
Your videos are soooo damn good! Best on whole of youtube for sure guys
Great stuff guys, could you repeat it with say wedge shots into the wind compared with wedge shots downwind??
Yup we can for sure
What about teeing the driver high but low launch i.e. change angle of attack and keep strike higher on face?
Also can you do a comparison of driving iron into wind?
Would a low launching low spinning shot like Matts 7 degree shot he hit be better into a 20mph headwind had he been able to lower his spin loft to reduce the spin from 2700 to 2000?
Still likely giving up carry distance with launch that low, but yes would be better than the 2700
The most handsome Scottish man in Canada!😂
Great content as always
That was great. Can you do for a 6 iron too and recommended how you hit a shot of 160 yds into 20 mph for say a 145 mph ballspeed driver type guy
What would happen if you teed it low downwind? Would the extra spin keep it in the air longer?
I’m right by Orlando. Is this a vacation or will you be doing anything with potential customers?
We'll be in Orlando for the PGA Show
Top class info, So if I have an adjustable driver normally set at say 10.5 Would it be a good idea to set it at 9.5 and tee the ball up if I'm about to play in windy conditions, or would this be an over compensation ?
Likely yes that would be a good idea
Love it!!! SCIENCE!!! :)
Does his swing speed help negate the effects compared to an average golfer?
Can you add temperature into your course set up? Such as 90* F /40* F..
Yes we can, we'll be doing that in an upcoming video
What about the converse? Down wind teeing it low, does the higher spin help?
Not so much, you want enough spin to keep the ball in the air down wind, but teeing it low will give low launch and high spin which still isn't ideal
Little bit of golf mythbuster action for 2019. Teeing low into the wind... Busted.
When are you guys getting the epic flash fairways in
Hopefully soon
Where in the hell does Matt get that smooth speed from!? I imagine he was a good athlete in other sports too?
Does the simulation model different wind speeds at different heights? In the real world it won't be a constant 20mph at both ground level and 100ft in the air.
Not sure, we haven't done a ton of testing with this feature yet
128mph Club head speed?! Get this lad on the PGA tour!! Insane speed!
Bit of a misread! Probably was about 123-124, (based on ball speed which was accurate) for some reason the GC Quad has been reading clubhead speeds a bit high with this Epic Flash head
@@clubchampionmedia Thanks for clarifying Ian. Still amazing speed..
Brilliant vids, my fav golf channel on RUclips now. 👍
That can be the case if you don't have enough spin on the ball, spin keeps it in the air so the wind has more time to push it forward.
@@clubchampionmedia 👍
if you are steep, lets say -1 AoA and want more launch, what would you do more than tee it highter? shaft profile? loft? weight back?
All of those are potential options, loft is most likely to make a difference though.
To keep ball down into the wind just swing with less speed tee it low and because of the slower swing speed the ball will not have as much backspin there for the wind will not eat it up as much and you will have a more Penetrating ball flight
Would it change if Matt hit down on the ball when he teed it down?
Would make the launch lower and spin higher, so basically a worse result even then we showed here.
What about teeing it back in your stance not down and playing a draw into the wind?
if it lowers the spin rate then yes it would help
How does a fade with even less spin end up?
What about a 3 quarter swing into the wind with driver ?
Depends on the swing Aaron, for a lot of people they will end up getting a bit steeper with that type of swing and end up putting extra spin on the ball.
Good video but could you do the same with someone that doesn't control the face as well as Matt ( no disrespect)
3 wood down wind
