    I've not ever seen my numbers on a trackman, but based on yesterdays driving performance this is me to an extent. I don't always hit the fairway, but my strike is usually pretty middle of the face. My natural shot is a fade and when I feel like i hit a drive well it doesn't travel all that far. I have a really high ball flight with the driver (TM Burner Superfast at 10.5 degrees loft) and it balloons up and drops like a pin. Seeing this video makes me want to go to a demo day and get the fitter to let me jump on the trackman and test this out.
    You guys are the best analytical and practical golf channel ever!

    Prior to your channel this was absolutely me. Based on your videos and you guys responding in the comments I got refitted into the M3 weights forward. I have added around 10-12 yards of carry and couldn't be happier! I also have to say i have dropped 6 strokes off my handicap and am finally in single digits. I owe that to you guys I haven't taken any lessons. These three videos have changed my game and my life and i'm grateful. 1. Gapping 2. Golf ball fitting (AVX) 3. Would love to see the same factors considered in an iron fitting. It’s obviously a less common problem, as there are a plethora of irons dedicated to helping players get the ball in the air, but I can’t imagine I’m the only one who struggles keeping the irons low in windy conditions. Amazing content as always, best channel on RUclips for my money!!

    Literally just purchased this driver and made same set up 5 years on to solve this exact problem, had G425 max and i was ballooning up losing 50+ yards. seeing 20%+ launch angle with Ping - Swing obviously the issue but this has made a huge difference.

    This opens my eyes a little. I'm still new with golf numbers when it comes to swings. I notice my drives go high, but I still fly it 310+... When I really try to put one out there, the ball tends to go high. I defiantly hit up on the ball more than most. I'm assuming I should find a different shaft. I might consider to go get fitted. Taylormade gave me a stock Stealth after breaking my SIM and I immediately noticed a difference in height and distance.

    Great video guys! I fall in that category - but with a lot less speed than Matt. As a senior I have a clubhead speed of 93 to 95 mph. I fit the profile you mentioned in the video. I was told by a fitter at a llocal golf shop that most likely I would most likely need a 10.5 regular shaft. Which is the loft my past couple of drivers have been. I switched heads and accidentally set the head on my XR16 to 9.5 and my distance jumped about 15 yards. I was shocked. my ball speed jumped about 3 mph as well. Your video confirmed to me that I need to find what works best for me and not go with something that is a general guideline for driver fitting. In fairness to the fitter he was by himself and he was trying to manage three bays of hitters at one time. Thank you again guys!

  • @eskayla
    @eskayla 6 лет назад +2

    Ian/Matt - what were the playing lofts of each driver (10.5* for G400 and ___ for SZ?) and could you have achieved similar results by adjusting the loft on the G400 down 1* instead of switching out to a completely different driver? I get that G400 has more spin in general than SZ and M3 but I play a 10* G400 LST adjusted to 9* and I still produce a lot of spin and my drives launch crazy high :/
    Also, is there any difference between adjusting +1.0* to an 8.5* G400 LST vs. adjusting -0.6* to a 10* G400 LST? Assuming the 0.1* difference (9.5* vs 9.4*) is negligible, do the lie angles, face angles, open vs closed, etc. change at all?

    I continue to have this problem. I tend to approach the ball more upright, so I know that contributes greatly to the amount of spin I create and how high I hit the ball. I am playing a TSI3 with 9.0 degree loft and a HZRDUS RDX 6.5 low spin 60g shaft. What would be the best setting of this driver to bring my ball flight down?

    One thing to add about Rogue Sub Zero...check your weights when you order it. I (perhaps naively) assumed the larger weight was placed forward by default. Played several rounds (including tournament ones) struggling to keep the ball down. One day, I decided to pop the weights out and sure enough, the heaviest weight came default in the back of the driver head vs. close to the face. Made the switch and saw an immediate difference.

    Guys, really enjoyed the video. I have been to a couple of fittings and struggling to keep my driver in play. I have a GC2HMT in my basement and I therefore really know my numbers. I generally have spin loft numbers between 9-13 depending how hard I want to hit up on it and how well I keep my hands moving through impact. I therefore DONT spin the ball off the driver and it seems to really hurt my carry and also direction. It seems when I hit a really low spin shot and don't hit it perfect, I really pay a price. The ball will hardly carry and dive left. I am playing an 8.5 degree driver, swinging at 106-108, hitting 4-6 up and never see a spin over about 1800 unless I leave the face open by accident. Path numbers are always between -1 out to in up to 2 in to out still hitting up. I think I need about 300-500 more rpm of spin to keep my ball in the air and straighten out the flight. Just ordered a 9.5 degree driver in the same head. How much additional spin should I expect to see from a 1 degree increase in loft? Does this make sense?

Great stuff and every video gives me something to think about👍🏽

    Right on target. I just moved from the 913D3 10.5 to the TS3 9.5 for similar reasons. Similar shafts; Bassara 55 S in the 913 and Tensei AV 55 S in the TS. Dropped my launch angle by 3 degrees, reduced the spin to 2100 rpm, gained 5 mph of ball speed and dropped the decent angle from 39 to 34 degrees, which produced a lot more roll. I may actually adjust the loft by +0.75 to see if there’s anything more to squeeze out of it.

    • @ReedServices
      @ReedServices 6 лет назад

      I tried changing the TS3 setting from A1 to D4 to add +0.75° of loft, making it a 10.25° driver and the results were amazing. During the Titleist fitting, I got really good Trackman numbers in the A1 setting, but the flight characteristics in D4 were fantastic after more intensive range sessions. Why did +0.75° improve the flight shape and stability so much? I gained more than +0.75° of launch angle, but was still well within the desirable range. The peak height occurred farther downrange and I gained another 10-15 yards, easily ... into a 10 mph wind! Please help me understand how such a seemingly small change made a substantial difference. Thanks.

    awesome stuff. This video reminds me last winter I hit an unusually high drive onto a very soft fairway. Bounced back from pitch/plug mark with negative 6 inches of roll. That's golf in Ireland for you! Quite often "carry distance" is the key number in these parts, but this video makes clear that is not necessarily reached via a super high launch.

    Would love to see a test of tip weights vs lead tape on head for irons. Thinking 7-10 grams. Maybe on a slightly wider cavity back, since it should theoretically have a greater effect on CG location than on thin blades. Also curious to see if there's a ball speed difference, since there should be more mass directly behind the ball with tape. Perhaps there's also a difference in ease of face closure.

    This is me. I'm a decent driver. Accurate, but only about 270 total on an average strike, normal conditions. Into a headwind, more like 240. I'm using 9.5 degrees, and I swing about 103-105. I'm thinking that spin may be the culprit. So I'm curious about the swing weight. Is there a configuration to applying lead tape to the head that I could use to bring the spin down? As opposed to buying new equipment. I simply can't afford that at the moment. But perhaps eventually a new shaft is the answer? I'm using a taylormade stock stiff shaft from 10 years ago, so maybe. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

    These videos are simple the best. This is me in a nutshell, I love my G400max but spin it entirely to high. It does have the stock 55g stiff shaft, what shafts would you suggest to help with the high ball flight? Swing speed 95-100. Forgot to mention that it is 9 degree, adjusted to -1 degree, with that being said, a heavier more stiff tip driver would not help much?

      The shaft likely won't change your spin rate a noticeable amount Jamie, I would look at lowering the loft using the adjustable hosel for a more significant ball flight change.

    Timely video. I hit my driver high and at times get that rising balata spinner that I know loses some distance. I was on Trackman yesterday with my 915 D2 10.5 set at 9.75 (C2) with a Fujikura Speeder 757 Evolution 1 Tour Spec Stiff shaft. Here are my numbers: Swing Speed 96.2, Ball Speed 145.7, Smash 1.51, Spin 2546, Launch 15.2, Attack +1.4, Carry 249.2, Total 271.3. The balls were new Callaway range balls and I do not notice much yardage difference between them and Pro V1 and X's I play. The yardage numbers are what I see on the golf course, typically carrying it in the 235-250 range. Should I be getting a little more out of these numbers with a swing speed in the 95-100 MPH range? I have a heavier weight I can add but the shaft is already heavy at 78 grams. I was thinking of going to a lighter, low launch, low spin shaft. Maybe the 661 Evo II or IV? Others? I've been considering the softer AVX for the Fall and Winter. I've tried it and may see some distance gain in the long end but lower spin balls scare me at the shorter end of the bag. Thoughts on my numbers and direction I should take?

    Ian and Matt - I feel like I hit my Taylormade R7 460 with 11.5 degrees of
    Loft, very far but it feels like it doesn’t go anywhere. When I was fitted for it, the computer at Carl’s predicted it would go further than several other clubs. The ball doesn’t seem to role out.

    Hi guys, quick question. I thought the swings between the 2 heads were meant to be the same. Only reason I ask is the attack angle with the rogue is pretty much half of the Ping. Would a club on its own have any influence on attack angle? Also, I’ve seen loads of stuff from Trackman on hitting up on your driver 4 degrees plus. What are your thoughts on this? Cheers

    I have a moderate swing speed. I was hitting driver too high, set at 9.5 degrees with stiff shaft, so I knocked it down to 8.5 degrees and now I am hitting it longer and straighter than ever.

    Lol this was so me in 2018, but in 2019 and even in 2020 my coach fixed this type of issue. My attack angle with the driver was too far down instead of up. I was swinging it 107 mph on average in that lesson, but my spin was way too high. So now I use the downward attack angle with the driver if I want to tee it lower and to just find the fairway. But in a lot of my drives especially on the driving range and wide holes in the course, I’ve been carrying my driver past 260 at times with a more upward angle of attack by just putting the ball way more up in my stance. Shockingly, my swing path is less in to out and I do have a similar swing tendency like Matt in the video and I am left handed. Shockingly, when the ball is more up in the stance and if one swings with no manipulation, the swing path will have a tendency to be more inward on the follow through. To those who are struggling with high spin drives, you guys are not alone because I had that problem in 2018. But now I think I’ve fixed it.

    How much difference would a 22 handicap see with fitting. I started playing four months ago and inherited my brothers older set when he bought new clubs. Thoughts?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      Likely quite a bit Robert, an experienced fitter can get you started on the right path as you work on your game with clubs that will suit you over time and help you enjoy the game more, and compliment your swing

    I found if I tee the ball low I tend to hit it left, with a slight pull (G410 plus, 10.5°). If I tee the ball up, it fades right. Can you do a video on different tee heights and how they affect launch and spin?

    As always guys great content. As I mentioned in previous videos I've got the epic sub zero with Oban devotion 6 X flex shaft. Head weighs 196 grams. Going to order the heavier weights for head and test on GC quad at East Kilbride golf club.

    I always seem to hit it higher at the range ,we have great facilities there with fitting and flightscope so I know my numbers quite well ,the only thing thats not great is that we have range balls ,they are the srixon black stripe ones ,I think they are about 10% less distance so you would need a shot from Heaven to get it over 300 yards which is what the range is .Would you guys say that in general these sort of range balls do fly higher ,I do notice if you get too much height and spin they can kind of drop out of the air almost like they have hit a force field .Once again very good video guys and Matt really seems on it with the driver .

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад +1

      Big variance with range balls across different facilities, some are quite low spin and very firm while others are designed to fly a bit shorter due to distance restrictions

    I'm curious because you've mentioned before how light the standard Rogue heads are. What type of golfer would that standard weighted Rogue head be good for?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      To be honest, not a whole lot of golfers would benefit from that light of a head. It makes for a good build when paired with a super light shaft, for example, but for the most part a higher head weight pairs better with the average player's weight category of shaft and delivers an ideal swingweight.

  • @allenwilson8913
    @allenwilson8913 6 лет назад

    Considering only spin, with assuming all other factors are optimized, is there any condition where a lower spin is going to negatively impact the ball flight? Too much headwind that knocks the ball down...cross wind that moves the ball too much...etc?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      Likely just downwind, not enough spin on the ball could cause it to get knocked down

    I had the same. Problem with the subzero I have put some 1 gram fishing leads behind the normal weights to make it a a lot better and it doesn’t move if tightening normal and accurate .
    Have to do something because they don’t have the weights over here

      Andy V ok I will search for it but the fishing leads works great and it a buck for a box full of them and they rol in easy keep the driver on his side drop in the lead balls and insert normal weight above the fishing leads screw in a bit turn driver upside down separating the lead balls evenly then screw in the rest.

    This is totally me! Ping G25 Driver 10.5 neutral and I need more distance. (255 avg.) Always have the higher peak (not a ballooning things just higher than needed) I usually need to move the placement of the ball further back in my stance to obtain the flight I would prefer to see.

    Again, awesome video. Is there any way to get the launch down on the Max? Would heavier weights or hot melt get the launch lower? How about a low launching shaft to pair it with?
    Thanks as always for another interesting and informative video. Please keep them coming!
