This movie is still really creepy. If you don't think so, watch this movie by yourself at midnight on a rainy night while living deep in the country woods. I did that one night and it was spooky as crap. I still don't remember if I slept a wink that night.

Agreed with betsy, it is not quite a Guess Who movie, as you don't add her to be part of the suspects.. i'd have put her in the cafe, and when annie asks about where camp crystal lake is then Betsy should leave out of a back door upset or throw a newspaper over her face to hide her reaction
I would rather a movie to be actually scary than gory. It's called a SCARY movie for a reason. But I love both Halloween and Friday the 13th I cant choose. Here is how I see it. If you want to watch a gory, fun, slasher flick with no character development go with friday the 13th. If you want a scary and creepy movie, with not a lot of gore, but with likeable characters and actually scary, go with halloween
Betsy Palmer may have thought the script was terrible and didn't think anyone would watch it.....but she was wrong fans watched it and loved it. also she was a professional and did a great job in her role, she didn't just phone it in.
I've never found the events of this film to be scary, but the setting, more than any of the sequels, has a genuine creepiness to it. The sound of the cabin doors when they open and shut, for example - I've always found that disturbing.
I agree with the comment about Friday having more appeal than Halloween. What is interesting is that Betsy Palmer, a mid-level movie actress from the 1950s and 1960s, was the "draw" for Part 1 as a result of her moderately famous name. (Bing Crosby's son was one of the victims). She admitted to taking the role of Mrs. Voorhees because she had just purchased a new luxury car, and needed the money to pay it off! The later movies, alas, became more and more fantastically inane in terms of plots.

Nah, part of the creepiness of the film is the killer's seeming ability to be everywhere at once. Even if logically it often doesn't make sense.
