I just received a DGT myself. It’s antique white with the birds. I’m still getting to know it, but the pickups and separate pots for the neck and bridge are what immediately stand out. They allow you to absolutely sculpt any tone that you could possibly want. Add to that the pickups coil split for and even wider array of tone.
Jeff McErlain plays a DGT through his Two Rocks (same two you own) on his RUclips channel. He has loads of georgous guitars and is a great instructor. He has also done loads of courses on True Fire. Intro was excellent James.
Wow - what a project!! Good luck, and let us know how it turns out... you might like my mini doc, called The Guitar Maker ruclips.net/video/Oqfqq81l7Ak/видео.html cheers
You could probably change those neck and bridge pickups controls around if you wanted. One thing I really dont like about PRS guitars is the positioning of the pickup selector switch. I've always felt its too far at the back. I'd also prefer it to be a blade type switch. These minor things aside its a beautiful guitar and I agree its probably the best PRS in the range.
I had five different great guitars, a fender strat and tele, a les paul ... all fine axes...and inused to play them in change, ... until October, 9th 2019. That day I got my PRS DGT ... and since that day i stopped playing the others aside from some very rare moments, i wanted to assure myself, that the five others didn't run away in the between time ;)....maybe i sell the most of them in the next time - there is no more need for them.... Does this answer the question?....
I effin’ love it! It is the ying to the yang of the two rocks, and i cant wait to get a couple more rock machines! Honestly, it is a different but equal happiness to the incredible calm and tone of the two rocks!
@@JamesOnGuitar u need to play in stereo to get the full effect . Cleans from two rock with a dirty Z ... it’s like blackface and vintage Vox having a baby. Throw on that heavenly strymon delay pedal and it’s game over !!
Ah yes, but we aren’t talking super heavy - i just liked the robust feeling. They average 8lbs i believe, perhaps this one is a tiny bit heavier than that 🤟🏼
I am old and sold my Les Paul Custom because it was causing pain. I can play my DGT for hours and it remains comfortable; All my PRS guitars (SC-245, Studio, DGT and 509) are the right weight and balance for playing for hours.
Tbh, listening back, you aren’t wrong. So many variables in not only getting a good tone, but also recording it and getting that over to the end listener. But in this case I am just as unimpressed as you. From time to time i get it right and get some decent tones. I rarely pick up this guitar though - because for some reason i can’t get it to give me what i want. No doubt someone else could and would love it. That’s just the way it goes…
Hello James! Love the videos. Great content. I like some of your ideas as I have some of the same gear. Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you 🤟🏼
Gorgeous guitar, congrats!
Thanks 🤟🏼
DGT in the gold top finish, it’s a modern classic. Loved the intro to this vid by the way - very dramatic
Thanks 🤟🏼 glad you liked it! And yeah, this design is stunning!
That gold finish is beautiful.
Yeah, they did good on this one!! 🤟🏼
Hey James, I'm a huge PRS fan. I have a CE 24 and love it. It's the one I pick up most often.
Paul Reed Smith’s passion is pretty infectious isn’t it! Beautiful guitars 😎 i feel the need for more 🤔

Now that is a nice guitar!
Thanks! Yeah, it feels like it can play any type of music you throw at it! (And I love a goldtop!)
You've got some really good gear, it should really help inspire you to play more and more and you will have fun as you get better. Enjoy man.

Ah yes, i have seen him with it too! I watched a video of his recently about Jimmy Page (my favourite guitarist... next to Ariel Posen now😊) thanks 🤟🏼
Beautiful guitar, I’m building a diy gold top PRS clone right now so I came to see what a real one looks like 🤘

Do a video just playing the guitar it would be great
My dream guitar! How to own one soon. One question - how much did it cost you?
I think they are around £3.5k. It is a beautiful guitar for sure!
U happy with the the PRS?
Oh yeah, boy, this thing is a serious instrument! My es355 feels like an extension of me, but this feels like an amazing tool for any type of music!

That have piezo ?
No - just two humbuckers 👍🏼
Dr Z arrived huh? thoughts?

You’re reading my mind now?! Haha but yes, you are right! And watch my next Finding My Tone on Monday to hear the result of that heavenly union! 🤟🏼
Only mod guitar needs is rubber bands on the knobs😎
haha
Years ago I added some to mine because it gets hot in the bars here. When doing volume rolls the rubber bands helped a lot.
I’m not sure I like that it is heavy. I’m getting older and playing gigs with a heavy guitar is a real pain.

@@JamesOnGuitar I’ve always wanted to get a PRS, but don’t have the $$$. Have you ever tried the Santana model?
I haven’t unfortunately - that was my dream guitar growing up!
@@3cardmonty602 I tried the Santana and thought it was very neck-heavy and felt unbalanced compared to the DGT.

I don't like the tone in this video, I'll assume it's the amp.. a lot of money to be spent on tone that is not great, imo
