0:27 4 screws, here, here, here, here and here...lol......buddy i got the same fan issue too. thnx for the video. its helped. you saved me a tonne of money going to mechanics
Great video, many thanks. I would have never known that the fan control relay was riveted to the bumper. My fuse was OK and I could turn the fans by hand (they were not seized). So I drilled the rivet out which held the fan control relay to the bumper, using a steel cutting drill bit. Bought a new fan control relay and bolted it to the bumper ... problem solved! RUclips videos are so helpful.
Thank you so much. very well done. One of my fans was making a clicking noise then finally sized. I was able to get a replacement at a junkyard for $15.00but still does not kick in ....so I am going to replace Relay. Funny thing is our Advance Auto didn't carry Relay and to me to go to Dealer. So I will call around. Thanks again you explained and filmed everything very well. All the best
thanks for this information. my fan comes on when i put ac on. 1) how did you diagnose you needed a relay? what was happening? 2) when should the fans turn on automatic, is it when the temp gauge needle goes above the middle range mark? 3) how long should i have to wait to see the fans turning?
+Scott Watkins I checked my trouble codes on it. My fan wouldn't run when the engine warmed up to the operating temp. When the engine warms up maybe 10 to 15 minutes. I'd have it scanned to check codes on it if you can.
Thank you talking the time to show me (us) how to do this. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm nervous. But I'm a chick that's a "go better done" kinda chick . Again thank you for sharing your knowledge about cars with me. #grateful
My AC works perfectly till I stop at the red lights. When I am not driving my car my AC does not blow cold. Do you think the radiator cooling fan relay issue? Thank you very much.
I think this is why mine is over heating.. it only happens in drive through or at a store while idling.. should I start here and go from there? 2001 dodge caravan
Hi. My 2004 D Gran Caravan. AC. Radiator fans not running. Would this make my AC not cool. It ran fine 2 days ago. Swapped fuse. No change. Just wondering this would make AC cold again. I do hear my compressor kick in.
I have a relay to replace due to the fan not working. Once replace with new relay would that make my fan work but if it dosen't what would be the problem then???
I have a 2000 durango V8 4.9 Magnum and the check engine light is always on and had a shop run the code for free and they said it keeps saying fan relay. Is their more than one fan relay or is this pretty much what its saying the issue is? They didn't say radiator fan relay just told me its saying fan relay is setting off service engine light. My fan runs and when I first crank the Durango and drive off it sounds so loud like a jet engine but then after a minute or two it goes away. I never over heat anywhere but ever since I bought this durango near 4 months ago its always had that damn service engine light on and its driving me nuts. Where is the fan relays on a 2000 Durango or am I better off paying a shot to replace it? I'm no mechanic but trying to do this stuff on my own if I can cause shops are so expensive. I just had a idler pulley break and lodge under the alternator and belt came off. Had to have it flat bed towed to the shop as I was far from home or a shop and did not have tools to try and do that myself. 80 dollar toe to the shop and 215 dollars to have a new belt and new idler pulley put on and yet it still squeaks on cold starts. After it warms up 5 minutes to 10 minutes later the squeak goes away and never comes back until it sits for hours and cold out and the squeaks upon startup every time. So pissed cause they said all other pulley's were ok and the tensioner. Yet it was actually squeaking just like that before the pulley broke. So now I'm worried and don't want it breaking again and want to know wtf is off with my belt and pulley system. That chirping sound coming from the alternator or pulley they just replaced that area is really pissing me off after spending 215 bucks to fix it. between cold start belt chirping and the service engine light I swear this durango is really getting on my last nerve. Oh and I smell coolant coming out the heater vents when I turn them on so probably needs a heater core to. Also I noticed the horn didn't work and checked the fuses to see the yellow 20 amp horn and ac clutch fuse was missing. Bought a pack of those fuses and already went through 2 fuses. The horn will work for a few minutes and after a while the fuse blows. Happen twice withing a hour so that is blowing fuses and that has me pissed. This durango is so making me mad. No wonder it was traded in.
+BLUExEYEDxSLICKT So sorry but there should be a relay that is under the hood that has a relay for the fan it just pulls out like the fuses but its bigger.
-First thank you for your video very useful I have a couple of question hope get reply I have dodge caravan 2002 suddenly I found the gauge of temp at the middle before was under the middle ,,so hope any one can advice me and reply these question Thank you -Where is the coolant temperatures sensor located? -from where did the relay get the power to start? -does the relay have fuse and location?
I changed the part and eureka! Cooling fans again.. Thanks alot for your upload...a lifesaver! I was using a ton of coolant drive this beast. Thanks again!
nice video. my fuses are good. gonna change my relay. neither rad fan or ac fan turn on at all. will relay help with ac fan or is that a whole nother issue
JCN1JCN1 Did you check the fuse that goes to the fan ? On the dash cluster does it show that it is heating up on the gauge ? Also did you test the fan by running direct power to it ?
***** Thanks for the reply. Fuse good, and fans work with direct power to them. My temp reads right about half gauge and my fans will not come on. I did put a coolant temp sensor in last night so I will drive it today to see if the fans come on.
I have a question. When looking to buy a relay for my 2005 dodge van. One is $100 it also says fuel? The other relay is $65 and says temperature control.. I'm guessing I need the temperature control fan relay?
@@MrJustDIY okay thank you, awesome video. My temperature went straight up to hot. So I replaced the thermostat. Then the check engine went on.. the code was 480. I guess I need the fan relay

Everybody just make sure that the ground is actually grounded! The sub frame can get rusty and it wont make a connection. Clean off the rust if you have done this and it's still not working.
Same relay for a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. Part is $50 at Advance Auto Parts. Someone backed into our van, and whacked the headlight. I changed the thermostat first, thinking that was the most likely issue. Finally did proper troubleshooting and observation, and I see the drivers side fan never turns on. This should be an easy fix! Stay tuned to see if they still rivet the relay in place. I really hope not! And did you use every socket extension you own? Hahaha... Looks like I will have to use most of mine.
I have a bunch of extensions lol I'm always buying tools even when I don't need them, It's hard to pass up good deals when it comes to tools. Hope you get it going.
@@MrJustDIY After doing some more digging and thinking, I realized that my issue is probably not the relay since one fan works but not the other. If I replaced this already and the code says relay circuit what else should I do to stop the over heating and I can't clear it now. Please help!!
Could be the fan, a bad wire maybe a fuse
i have a 05 Town and C0untry. My fan keeps running even with the key off. Would this problem be the relay. Thank You for the video much help needed.
Yes, it's very possible the relay is stuck in the on position telling the fan to run.

@@MrJustDIY do I need thermal grease to get this to ground properly?
Hey is it for the ac fan? The ac radiator fan the one is working but not to the other one turn ac on still don't come on.
It was for the cooling fan for the engine
For the AC you want to check the blower motor resistor and or the blower motor fan
I have a relay to replace due to the fan not working. Once replace with new relay would that make my fan work but if it dosen't what would be the problem then???
