I am a single mother of 4 and thanks to your video and God's grace and strength I was able to replace my radiator myself and not have to pay someone 500+ dollars. So again thank you for posting this video
wow marry me!
God helps those that help themselves. Good on you, Nicole!👍
Hell yeah. Im going into mechanics and i love to see people wrenching on their own cars. Even though it means im not making money. Keep working and learning.
God isn't helping her brain and willingness to work is. If there is a god he would snap his fingers for mundane tasks like fixing a radiator. Or make things Bruce Willis Unbreakable. Except they let him drown wich pissed us off big time. Not cool M. Night shamalong a ding dong!!! Or god would just let us think and teleport. Yeah sure there's a G-O double Dizzag
I need this for my van. radiator is broken and I don't have money to fix it
Got a price from my mechanic for $ 560.00 to replace my radiator.
With the help of your video I was able to replace my radiator, cap and coolant for $ 160.00! Saved $ 400.00!!
I am reasonably mechanical and it took me about 2 hours from start to finish.
Made my week! Thanks for a great video.
Bill Reinhart I bought a radiator on eBay at $43.00 and have no problem with it. And with no labor it is less than a $50 radiator install in this case my time is money saved.
As others have noted, it's easier if you just remove the top xmember (4 bolts) and if you pull the fans out (only takes a few seconds to unclip the electrical connector), you have more working room and don't even have to get under the vehicle to undo the lower hose. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful; took me a bit less than 90 mins start to finish.
Exactly Stephen. I've done it a few times on my wife's van. You gotta hold the AC condenser down while pulling up on each side of the radiator to dislodge it from their respective holes.
Thank you so much for the video, just replaced my radiator today! You were a huge help. Not only did I save money but I learned a ton and feel empowered. Such a great day. Will be looking to further my skills and knowledge. Pc and Lv
10:06. Removing that crossmember ( the bar that the hood lock/latch assembly is connected to via around the center of it) would have made this soo much easier and it's easy to remove that crossmember out of the way.
That is why you watch more than one video on how it is done !
@@timogreenwold122 yes I usually do I was just mentioning that comment for others
Yeah, I think I can do this! That's what I needed to see to boost my confidence. The van is the same. You and I are like Bookends right down to the broken belt loop from pulling up our pants! Lol Seriously, I appreciate your work putting this out here for those of us who don't even qualify as a shade tree mechanic. The video really prepares me for the job. I've put in radiator "stopleak" several times so I'm going to flush out the system first. I'm hoping thar removes any of that silver or copper glitter that could stop up water jackets in the engine. I'm going to also replace the thermostat, radiator cap and overflow hose. I'll inspect the overflow tank as it sure seems to loose coolant there as well. Also, thanks to the comments of your viewers about removing the top support bracket.
So glad you made a great demonstration. I have to change out my radiator and now it makes it easier knowing which bolts to loose only. Thanks.
Thank you. I had the same problem exactly. Please continue to make how to videos.
good job very easy to follow, very nice knowing where all the bolts are before you start, thanks again
what if the transmission cooler was burst aswell is it ok to just replace one
I think you did an outstanding job buddy thanks for taking time out of your radiator fix to help others! Much love from nc
Nice video but it is MUCH easier if you remove the bar that the hood latch bolts on to.
Because you said this, I looked at my van and it does appear that you remove just 4 bolts to remove that radiator support. That will make the job a lot easier.
and the 2 fans and you'll have so much more room to work in.
I was just going to say that.....
@@michiganwheels3326 thanks for the tip. Here in July 2020, it's going to make my job easier. I'm also putting on a new fan assy so I'm hoping I can pre-mount it and slide it back in place with the new radiator. (we'll see how much clearance there is)
Great tip!
thanks for the video. I have to replace a radiator in a Dodge caravan next weekend.
Thanks for the video. Appreciated the time saved by the fast-forwarding and the music was a nice touch too. Keep up the good work!
Chuck O I like the music too
Thank you for your video i am a senior alone and i need to put a radiator on the same van you have i have a friend who is going to do the job we will use your video great help thanks
Awesome! Yes this video helps a lot. I just replaced the water pump and had to press in a new hose nipple on water pump housing. No fun, but I sprung a bad leak. wasn't water pump. Turned out to be a broken hose nipple. Im just thinking about replacing the radiator even tho it isn't leaking. I thought your van had transmission hoses attached to it? Im very glad it doesn't. Makes removal and install easier. RUclips videos have saved me time and time again :D
awesome video it helped me a lot,I was able to replace my radiator all by myself with this video, again thanks a lot.
Great video! For those of you doing this project, please use a bucket or oil pan to catch your coolant. It can be very hazardous to animals and humans.
If you replace your radiator, replace your hoses at the same time. All new is good.
I agree, and why not, they are relatively cheap and rubber will dry out overtime👍
Also replace the thermostat
Great video! Thank-you very much! Gonna start the radiator removal this afternoon!
I have a 2007 Dodge Grand caravan sxt. This is a helpful professional video. But you forgot to mention when draining the fluid to make sure that there no dogs or cats around,bc that would be fatal.
Great video. Showed me what I needed to know for our 2002 Dodge Van. Thanks
Thanks! I did this today with the help of a friend. Spent about 2 hours and $192. Was quoted $850 by mechanic.
I liked the video, and I do like it when you fast forward on the mundane... I would have liked to see if you could change the water pump easier if the radiator was out. 2. Why didn't you check to see if you had any leaks prior to installing the plastic.
3. Why didn't you burp the system first.
Thanks.
Tory Wolten I very recently changed the water pump on my Caravan. Having the radiator out has no effect ln getting the water pump. They're no where near each other, but there are some very good RUclips videos on how to change the pump.
Thanks for the video. This really help to explain how to do this job. You did a great job. Thank you.
Awesome video, it will be my No 1 reference when I exchange my radiator. However, is there no way to catch the anti-freeze? To just let it go to the next sewer is a nightmare for environment, especcially if everyone does it.
Great job on the replacement of the radiator..
Thanks for great vid and heads up what to expect. If all elese fails read the instructions (chuckle)
Seems to be a popular repair for same exact reason/place. Complain to dodge. maybe a recall radiator is needed.(doubt it would happen) Our 01' caravan only has 92k mls is well maintained. I'd expect more.from it. shouldn't have to replace this part for such short mlg .
Suggest buying some power/air tools for if you're going to continue doing extensive repairs.
Good job!
Use 'K seal'
I will be referencing this video. I have to change mine out on my 2004 dodge caravan.
Thank you for your video it really helped us out!
Great video. Thank you. Tells me I need a mechanic and how important car knowledge is.
Great video, it really helped me out in a tight spot. thanks again
Watched your video them went and did my radiator on 2003 caravan thank you very help full
Hey man thanks for posting this video, I’m getting ready to do this on mine and your video was helpful.
Thank you for sharing your video.
thank you, you made it very clear.
very helpful im getting ready to replace mine but i wanna know why you didnt just take off the bumper? Wouldnt it be easier :) thank you and wish me luck guys itll be my first time lol
Great how to. Thanks!
great video helped me replace mine
Thank you for your video !
Great Job
Thanks to sharing !!!
God bless !
Thanks for the video..best one out there by far, really helped me a lot.
thank you for being informative
Hi you jolly man you did it. Nice keep it up. thanks for the demonstration.
GOD bless u man. Good job
next time take the cross bar off two bolts each side makes it a lot easier.
cool ma grea job you helped me bunches.. ill be doing this tomarrow
Its a lot easier to take the upper radiator tie bar off (4 bolts) than taking all the support and latch mechanism off instead.
Pils Nrimgaard you are right
Colorado Cyber You have never changed the alt on a Deville not the biggest pain thats the ac clutch in the deville
I have done it removing the bar as he said and it was a lot easier so yes, Pils is right!
Nice video however I agree with about removing that crossbar and not sure where you are from most states have a environmental laws against releasing anti freeze on the ground
You mentioned that you have a transmission cooler. Or were you talking about the fans?
Thank you for this video! I have a Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L 2007 with 180K km, and the coolant started to leak a bit, I have seen some small wet spots on on the asphalt the driver side in a summer sometimes under the radiator. I am just wondering if this a radiator? I purchased the coolant leak stop, but it did not help.I am just wondering if I should add another coolant leak stop fluid into the radiator or just replace one? Merry Christmas!
I guess there's some radiator fluid in there... made me laugh because I think we all knew what was gonna happen before when you said you weren't gonna use the pan. SMH. However, great video I am in the middle of it so far and very informative. Thank you for posting.
Hola!
Distilled water. Should have removed the red painted radiator support that traverses the entire compartment. It would have opened up the entire area and made it much easier. Good work even though.
i changed the radiator in my 2002 grand caravan. and yes, take the 4 bolts out and remove the cross support bar. my biggest problem was getting the ac condenser pegs/pins in the mounts on the radiator with the rubber grommets in place. not a lot of room. ive got big hands so probably would have helped if i had smaller hands. probably took me about 3 hours total
Should've taken both fans out, takes 5 min.
Nice video bro. Thanks.
You should consider including in your title that you're working on a 3.3L or V-6, or Grand Caravan. Lots of us looking for info on the 4-cyl with the 2.4L engine and it's very time consuming when this information is not included.
Thank you.
40 years mech . always replace the fans when you do the radiator on a caravan. they have the same life expectancy of the radiator and the hoses .
Thank you
Good video, very helpful, and thanks for posting -- but the added music is extremely annoying.
Where did you buy the new raditor? I have Dodge caravan 2005 se. Engine 2.4. Your raditor looks the same of my old raditor. I bought new one from oreillys, but it didnt fit. They said, someone might installed 3.8 engine raditor. I just want to a year and model of your minivan please. I am trying to find same as your raditor, but i could not find. Thanks
How hard was it to remove ac and transmission stuff from front. Couldn't tell. I have 99 Dodge caravan. Gonna attempt this tomorrow
'white smoke' indicates water is entering the combustion at some point, i.e. breached head gasket, cracked head or cracked block. or, you could be someohow burning brake fluid, did that on a Dodge van once, main seal on brake unit went out and it was sucking fluid into the intake of the engine.
Great video thanks for sharing!
Thank you for posting this video. Very helpful. Have to change one in an 05 caravan.
Is there a bleeder value when you refill the radiator so the motor doesn't have oxygen in it and cause it to run hot?
thanks
You did a good job of explaining what you did, but let us see exactly what you were seeing. We watched you instead of the little details which could end in failure for most of us newbies. Specifically mating the radiator with the ac condenser. We watched you struggle, but we did not see why you were struggling.
I haven't watch the whole video so maybe you address it later. Did you disengage the air bag sensor?
Are you supposed to rinse the new radiator? Secondly did you use tap water or distilled water?
Scott Gurley only ever use distilled, any other water will have minerals and if they build up and stick together then you'll have little stones in your system. It's like having a kidney stone in your body, avoid it at all costs lol
good job...but would it have been easier to take the front grille first?
hamish r front grill, come on
Thanx, but next time take off that crossmember with the latch on - much easier.
Yep !
LOL i would have played death metal during the fast forward moment.
Do we guess what year and engine size you're working on???
nice video great help
Thanks bro
I noticed on my van that the over flow bottle tends to "over flow" from the spout quite a bit lately, my husband did just put water in the radiator, do you think he put too much?
either the overflow is filled past the recommended levels or its boiling back into the overflow
? I have the same van as well but I'm trying to figure out what is the name of the part that the top hose clamps on to that connects to the engine. Because that part is leaking
That is the thermostat housing
Your radiator is leaking because of the shoddy way radiators are made nowadays. I' old enough to remember when they were made entirely out of copper and brazed together. These new units are made of aluminum and plastic and basically just clamped together.
what size engine? I just bought a 2.4L 2001
get rid of the 2.4
Use a zip tie on your return line
Good video.
It's generally recommended that you remove the front bumper cover entirely.
I guess so, would have to get a plastic push pin àssortment from ebay. Cause you would break them getting off the old ones. Depends on how much work you want to make for yourself.
thanks for the vid!
3:45 I've got a completely different mounting bracket why is that if you look at the top of the radiator it's the mounting bracket attached to the crossmember
Good video, but you still need to bleed you system from air. Thanks
VR6 RT how you bleed your system
good
This music is fire
Leave your comments and questions here!
Remove the 4 bolts from the support bar and it will come straight off without taking the hood release and all other bolts out, just becareful not to break hood release cable while moving it
My whole set up across the top of the radiator is completely different even how the fan shroud mounts to it
Will a 05 radiator caravan fit a dodge grand caravan 03?
Is the radiator in the 2.4L 4-cylinder the same as in the 3.3L V6?
This is what Iam looking for. I bought one from oreillys, but it didnt fit. I have Dodge caravan 2005 SE. Engine 2.4. They could not find raditor for my van. I am not sure where to find raditor. Did you find one for your minivan?
I was hoping to see you put the lower hose back on since you just let the coolant run out on the ground, lol! That was a bad move because it smells sweet and animals could be attracted to it and drink it and get very sick.
Be sure to mix with distilled water. 50/50 mix for common folk.
you really should have put a drain pan underneath to catch that anti-freeze
Subscribe just for the simple fact, it helps to bump it up!
thumbs up :)
no trans cooler lines!?
THANKS
