    I can really see the application of this to the singing of songs. It has made a huge difference for me on many levels. I've always felt I did well on exercises but then I couldn't really apply them to singing. Weird. This is different. I can now get through songs and relax without worrying about losing my breath which then makes the actual tones I'm creating throughout so much better. So much gratitude!

    My neighbours must think I've got a new house alarm. Seriously though, fantastic exercise; especially with the 3 staggered breaths. That took me some time to get my head around. I come from years of choir singing and basically every teacher I have ever had taught me to breathe into my tummy (the breath that felt uncomfy for Jeff). It's going to take a while to get rid of that muscle memory. Thank you again for the video!

    • @JeffRolka

      Thank you for that! Yes, getting taught to distend the stomach is endemic in vocal instruction - and unfortunately it's not quite right. I hope this helps! Keep me up to date on your practice!

    Hi Jeff, I would love it if you would do another video similar to this. Those breathing exercises are the best! As well as those brisk scales. Wide range covered as well. In the meantime, couls you point me to some of your other vids that are similar? Thanks, you're the best and I have directed several people to your channel of late.

      Thank you Claudia! It is long overdue for me to cover this topic in this way again. I have to say, I haven't done any other videos that are quite like this one, and the one that I did for male voices. I will add this to my schedule at the top of the list. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

    Hi Jeff, I really like your videos! But now I'm a bit lost... I can't figurer out in which octave you start. Either it's a fifth too high or too low for me. What should I choose, really love the pace and practises. 😜

      Hard for me to say without hearing what you're doing! Generally speaking, try to sing in unison with the piano.

    Whats the singing range here? I need to review ear training but I'm just curious what the top not is.

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  8 месяцев назад +1

      Singing warm ups that go over the secondo passaggio for sopranos
      and mezzos (which are included in this video) generally go to the area of about a5. I would advise you, however, to try to figure this out on your own, as it's easier than it may seem and will help with your ear training as well.
      There are numerous free piano apps for mobile devices or you can try this website:
      www.musicca.com/piano
      Just so we're clear, I have no affiliation with that website.
      When you come to the note in question, just pause the video, but keep singing the note. Pluck around on the piano until you find it, and then of course, you'll know the note.
      It is important to make these associations as vocalists, so that we come to know the physical feeling of the range that notes are in.
      All the best,
      Jeff
