And violence! The bad man was violently swinging a big black dangerous club at the car and his rage escalated as he kept thrashing it against the ignition. Definitely rated R for violence.
This WORKS! I couldn't believe it when the key turned, I sat in my car and laughed at how my dad used to say, "if it doesn't work after you beat on it, then it's broke"
I had this same problem with my Toyota Sienna. I tried for hours to get the key to turn without success. I came across your video on RUclips and gave it a shot. This is a standard flat key, not a chip key or anything. I removed the key from my key ring and tapped the end a few times with a steel tire gauge. I then tried to turn the key and voila!, it turned! I sprayed some WD40 in the key slot and tried turning the ignition off then back on a few times and it worked each time. Amazing! Thanks so much for this tip. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.
Well this actually happened to us tonight. My husband was worried about a toll truck. Our jeep stopped in the mall in freezing weather. Googled the problem and ran across this video. He went back to the jeep and used his hand and it really worked. God answered my prayer. Thank you for posting.
Thought my key was bad, walked up a hill 2 miles to get my spare. Didn't work. Googled key won't turn jeep and this came up.i beat the key with the service manual a few times and it worked. FTW and thanks for posting!
Omg I just want to say thank you for posting this video!! My ignition has been giving me problems for some time now but today it completely locked and refused to turn at all. Mechanic next door says I had to take it to the dealership to get the ignition replaced so obviously I was not very happy so I got onto the Internet and googled and found your video and my father and boyfriend went out and tried what you did and it worked! Thank you again for sharing your knowledge!
Nov. 1/2020 - yeah!!! We're in Vancouver, Canada. 93 yr. old mom has a Shoprider mobility scooter (7 yrs old now). Today, out of nowhere she could put the key in the ignition, but it wouldn't turn. She was sure someone messed with it as it's a day after Halloween. We doubt that part. We doused the ignition with WD40 but ... the key still wouldn't turn, after an hour. So, we tried this fix - gave it one good whack with a hammer and WHALLA the key turned and she'll be able to go shopping tomorrow as she'd planned! Thanks for the GREAT, INEXPENSIVE fix for a low-income senior. It costs $100 service charge just to have a professional place come to look at her scooter to access the work needed, then the cost of repairs on top of that. Try this fix folks!
Tried turning the wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key and it didn't work. Watched this video when I was at my last wit in knowing what to do and said what the heck.... I watched this video and out of desperation, got my mallet out and tapped it three times on the key. The key turned and the car started. Amazing. It worked for me just fine. Thank you, Warren.
I love that you pointed out that "Tried turning the wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key and it didn't work" cause I got the odd post on here saying thats the problem. We all have experience the key being locked cause you turned the car off with the wheels turned and the pressure on the lock is preventing it from turning. and yes we all know that you just have to turn the wheel to remove the pressure and the key will turn. But that is not issue with the vast majority of people that have found their way here. They are here because of a bigger issue. and this hammer trick doesn't fix that issue, but it is a temporary cure. Glad it worked out for you and so many others. Cheers
my husband had the same problem on his 2000 Jeep.. he had the problem before but it always managed to work. He came in and found your video! at first we Laughed!!! that is hilarious!!!! he went out and tried it and it worked!!!!!THANKS AGAIN!
Amazing tip! Thank you. The official directions for installing a new ignition switch and ignition cylinder lock told me i had to drill through the head bolts on the steering column to replace the latter. No way I was going to do that! I knew there had to be an easier way even though my key wouldn't turn. This was the tip I needed. Once i had the key in the ACC position on my 97 Geo Prizm, i was able to insert the pick and depress the pin so I could pull the cylinder out! Really really easy. I'm so glad I decided I could fix this myself. I now have a brand new ignition switch and cylinder and everything is running great. I probably saved myself about 100 to 150 bucks. But not for the faint of heart if you don't like getting your hands greasy!
10 years later and this video is still helping people. I lucked out having a key with the fob portion broken off so I could hit it with a hammer without fear of crushing the fob. Regardless it worked after 3-4 little taps. Thank you so much.
No kidding, my son called me while he was away at college at one in the morning with the same problem so I told him what to do. He used a pair steel toe boots.
It’s 2022, almost 2023 and your still out here saving lives. Thank so much man. I was able to start my 2001 Toyota 4Runner because of this GEM 💎 video!
Hey man, you are a life and bank saver!!! I was slamming that thing like 30 times, almost gave up and when I did the last attempt it actually worked. So thank you very much and please post more of those videos!!!
@@JessentialLife bit late but I just had to do it too and it worked. Solid sturdy hit right on the key and it was done. Took me one try with a ball peen hammer. 03 liberty
Thanks for the video! After riding my bicycle in the rain for three weeks and attmepting to change the Ignition Lock Cylinder for two days I finally got the key into the ACC position to replace the cylinder, using your method with the hammer!
Although this didn’t ’fix’ my problem it actually saved my car from hurricane rains since all 4 of my windows were down. It was my 04 Honda CRV. I hit that thing and got the ignition to turn on after hours of trying to turn the key. I got my windows up.. couldn’t crank it but even if I had I would’ve prob stalled instantly. Thank you for sharing and if you’re reading this Godspeed ahead.
My parents car was giving me difficulties. The car key ignition somedays wouldn’t turn. It got stuck and I couldn’t turn it anymore. It’s been two days now and I’ve just been ubering back and forth. My uncle told me to spray some WD-40 into the key hole and let the product sit for a while and try turning the key again. Well it didn’t work. Then I saw your video and thought Id give it a try and what do you know??? IT WORKS, This is a miracle!!!! It turned and now I’m driving the car around again today. I was searching for help on YT, I happen to click on this video and it was the best choice. For a non mechanic like me, Thank you for sharing this video.
Just found this video while stranded in my company’s box truck! No AC and in a bad area. Thank you Warren Hardy! I am forever indebted to you and your video!
This saved me from costly repairs just this afternoon. My wife failed to keep the wheels straight when parking and the steering wheel locked. I had to ride my bike to get the key in the ignition using this method. No danger of breaking a key if you don't pretend you're Thor. Think "firm taps."
We had a blinker problem with our Grand Cherokee and learned that using a rubber mallet to hit under the dash fixed the turn signal. Now, we have the key not turning issue and using the same rubber mallet fixes that too! Looks like Jeep needs to be sold with rubber mallets already stock in the glove compartment. Finally, your sarcastic frustration was totally awesome bro!
This video literally saved me from a long miserable wait for breakdown service in a nondescript small village in Ireland on a late Sunday night. I used a tyre iron instead. I'll buy you a beer if I'm ever in your town
YOU'RE A HERO, MAN! Got my Peugeot 107 for three days and locked my wheels. Had to come back from a mall by a cab and the second day i fixed it, following your video! Had to turn the key right to make it work, but I made it! 🙏🙏🙏
I was stuck at a truck stop for hours with the same issue saw this video and tried it. didnt have a mallet so I used the palm of my hand, worked like a champed. Thank You Internet
Thank you so much!! I was supposed to go to orientation for a new job I just got. Thanks to your video there's nothing standing in between me and the road! you're awesome! God bless you!
when I had the same problem it turned out to be shavings from the key being put in and taken out, over time, building up and sitting in there, gumming up the lock. Striking it would make the metal shavings loosen but if that's the case here your lock will jam again once they resettle in a few weeks. I just put paper towel on the carpet below then sprayed a generous amount of lock lubricant in to flush it out, then a blast of air from a keyboard cleaner compressed air can. It cleaned it out without taking anything apart or hitting anything with mallets.
I think I used lock de-icer, but any spray lubricant with the straw type nozzle will do - WD-40 would work fine. Remember to blast it out with an air can after.
The issue isn't lubrication nor is it metal shavings. The issue is a worn out key. Just like breaks, if you let those wear out too long, you end up damaging your rotors. With a key, if you let it wear down too much, you can wear out your ignition. There is a bar inside the ignition cylinder that is most likely not fully retracting and not allowing the cylinder to rotate. A "new" key, (not a shiny copy of a worn key) will allign the parts in the lock correctly to allow cylinder rotation. However, a worn key that has been ignorred or hit with hammners may be damaged where even a new key can't fix it. When this happens, its time to replace the cylinder. Contact your local locksmith if you experience this problem.
yeah nevermind I had this same problem and metal shavings were the issue, jamming the cylinders, and once cleaned out it solved the problem. Nope, it can't possibly be that thing that happened. BTW brakes are b-r-a-k-e-s, not b-r-e-a-k-s.
Autocorrect doesn't always choose the correct word. Also, I make a good living helping people fix problems just like this. There may be metal shavings in your ignition jamming up your lock, but the reason the shavings got in there is because something is worn, either the key or the tumblers in the lock. Producing metal shavings is not a natural function of using a lock. Speaking of brakes, if your brakes were sparking every time you applied pressure on them, you wouldn't say it's a normal function of brakes and to just spray WD40 on them, would you? Hammering a cylinder is absolutely acceptable method of solving the immediate problem of getting your car to start, but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem.
I was stuck and all the videos I saw said I needed to replace or repair. Saw this video and hit my m'n f'n key with all my might and with a heart full of hope. It worked!!!! Needed to leave a comment to give my many thanks. ❤
Yes!! It worked on my 2006 Chevy Trail Blazer. The key got stuck last night, and today I searched to see what I could do to fix it. I found this video, got the rubber hammer and hit the key twice with a solid hit, and the key turned, I'm so happy!! Thank you for posting this.
Everyone BEFORE doing this try pressing your foot on the break, turn your steering wheel to the left a little and hold the steering wheel in that position as you gently jiggle your key back and forth while also pushing the key inward. If that doesn't work than I'd try this as a last resort.
Yeah I had a Nissan Altima that would do that off and on and it would unlock in the way you describe. Definitely try that first. Hitting anything on your car-especially anything with electronic components-with a rubber mallet should always be avoided if possible. 😄
Came across this video when I was desperate to find a quick fix...just tried it and it worked! Thank you so much for posting this! Definitely made my day 100% better being I had already called a locksmith for locking my keys in the jeep this morning!
Thank you for this, had the same problem yesterday and it worked. Afterwards I bought a quick release keychain so I could eliminate any weight on my key ring. Saved my Christmas 😁
It worked! 2010 Ford F150. Thank you so much for posting this video. I had tried everything before this, resetting anti theft, jacking front end up, just trying for hours jiggling steering wheel and key. Didn't want to hotwire because it is a newer truck and antitheft would probably keep steering wheel locked. But I did this with a hammer, because I didn't have a rubber mallet and it worked. It didn't permanently break the locking mechanism, as I took key out I had to pound on it again for it to turn, but now that it's turning I'm going to just leave the key in the ignition. Luckily I live in a place where I can leave my keys in the ignition, doors unlocked and never worry.
This vehicle is a Jeep. There are two types of ignition keys for these (as well as other Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler) vehicles. Before anybody starts hammering on thier key, first look at it, If the plastic section of the key is thin, go ahead and hammer the shit out of it. BUT if the plastic portion of the key is thick (like the one in this video), you should think twice about hammering on it. The thick keys have an RFID chip inside it. If you damage the chip, your vehicle wont start no matter what you do and the repair gets VERY expensive very quickly from that point on. The reason most ignition switches quit operating is because people set thier keys on the ground and dirt gets on the key..............people pull thier keys out of thier pockets and lint gets on the key.....so that's how dirt and lint finds it's way into the keyhole. Next thing ya know, the ignition lock tumblers get stuck and the key doesnt rotate anymore. Safest way to fix the situation is to spray BRAKE cleaner into the keyhole.........the brake cleaner evaporates and leaves NO sticky residue behind........spray a bunch of it in there. then push the key in and pull it out repeatedly (kinda like key sex with the keyhole). Do the spray thing a few times and the lock should work again. Let the brake cleaner dry up for a few minutes...........There is a dry powder type of "lubricant" that is used in the keyhole to keep the key switch moving properly. Many people think grease or "WD40" will fix a problem like this, but it just makes it worse. Obviously, the person who posted this video has a fucked up ignition switch, I mean, HOW often does his switch get stuck for him to "learn" the hammer trick.? If your keyhole gets stuck only a couple times a month, it means that the tumblers inside it are getting worn out and the lock cylinder needs to be replaced ASAP. The reason you should replace it ASAP is because if you wait until it is stuck one final time, you will have to break it in order to get it out.......but if you replace it before it refuses to turn one final time, all you have to do is position the key into the number 1 location and the ignition lock cylinder slips out in mere seconds.
I suspect I have a neighbor putting super glue in all my locks because my door locks have this problem as well, when I used wd-40 it seemed to loosen them up they already messed up my passenger door using key bumping
OMG I tried it and it worked!! Worked on my lincoln wipers all day wouldnt work troubleshooting in the rain..to no avail..decided to stress out on the mustang again.that had sat for 3 months..but this time check you tube..saw this video and hating Fords I grabbed my mallett and OMG IT WORKED!! Thanks!!!!! TOday I am the SHit!!! Thanks to you:) and never even broke a nail! lol !
I have a mid 2000s Grand Caravan that randomly the key would not turn. May take 5 attempts one time then 100 another of reinserting and twisting before it would turn. Today I could never get it to turn. A few YT videos taught me it is easy and cheap to replace the lock cylinder but it must be turned to near the start position to be removed. Figured I was screwed then came upon this video. At first I had little faith but gave it a try "or should I say WACK as you instructed" It Freaking Worked !!! As long as it works one more time when the ordered replacement cylinder gets here, it will have possibly saved me ether hundreds of dollars and / or many hours to resolve. Sending some $$$ as thanks if your channel accepts patron payments. Thank You Sir
You saved me today!!! My boyfriend usually has to get it turned for me, but I am stuck away from home and frantically searching for videos similar to what I have seen him do to the ignition. By the grace of God, I found your video and now, I can be on my way home!!!! 🙌
Thank you for posting this. I tried everything (turning the wheel, pressing the brake, putting the key in and out, manipulating the gearshift) and nothing worked. I sprayed some dry lubricant into the ignition (that alone didn't do anything because I tried that first w/o hitting it) and hit the key with a mallet 2x and it started up. 2007 Hyundai Sonata. I'm getting the cylinder replaced next week once the parts show up.
Thank you so much for your video. It really helped me minutes ago to unlock my car ignition switch after following your guidelines and watching your experience and taking me out of this dilemma. I had the exact same problem and your method worked. YOU’RE THE BEST!!! Thank you again!!!
Wd-40 and work the key in the ignition. Worked for me after I bought car for $300 because key wouldn't turn and dealer quoted high price to repair. Seller was pissed, but we already signed title, paperwork and exchanged money. Was an awesome car until daughter wrecked it 8 months later.
Do not use WD 40, this is what it does to lock cylinders. 4. Locks. The spray can prematurely wear down the internal mechanisms, especially in the pin tumbler locks, in door locks and padlocks. Go for graphite powder.
Couldn’t turn the ignition key in my 2006 Explorer yesterday and was late for work (took wife’s car). Watched this video and once I got home, hit the key, and it worked! Thank you!
Came out of the doctors office and the dam key wouldn't turn. Tried everything for 20 minutes. Was just about to call the wife to come pick me up. Saying to myself please key just turn so I can get the car home and fix it. Googled it and came to your video. Didn't have a rubber mallet but did have the boot on my right foot. Hit the key real hard with the sole of the boot and wham the key turns. Thanks for posting this. Saved me some aggravation for sure. 2002 Chrysler sebring.
Just tried it on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma, (it was towed to my home) and it didn't work. I spent a good 15 minutes hitting it- all I wanted to do is to turn it to accessory to push the pin so I can pull the cylinder out. I probably need to drill it out- ( not a fun or easy job) it seem like a great idea if it works- and by all the comments it has worked for many. Thanks for the video Warren and for the many you have helped.
You should try using a silicone degreaser first something like a Rust buster WD-40 type that can lubricate the cylinder first. You might have a safer more permanent results
My thoughts exactly at 1st, I tried some PB Blaster then coated my key w blaster and dusted the key with dry graphite powder. No dice. Key seemed to go in on a slight upwards angle. Hmm I'll give this method a shot. I just need to turn it once to get the Cylinder pin exposed to remove it and put a new one in.....
Indeed, I saw suggestions for this but your video shows that it works! I jammed, rammed, wiggled jiggled pushed pulled, did a Fonzie smack, turned and adjusted the steering wheel, jiggled the shifter etc nada... the rubber mallet on the straight in pound on the second time started right up. YEAH and YAY! Thanks that worked!
This Happened to my car just now! Spent 45 minutes trying to fix it then found this video, are used an old portable speaker that I have. Worked the first time! So so so thankful
ahhh thank you for this!! my POS chrysler 300M had this same problem I even had to have it towed home from work last night but watched this & started beating the $#!T out of the key & it works. thanks!
Thank you for posting this video. My 02 Durango has been locking up. My mechanic told me until I get it fixed to jiggle up and down. The last time that worked, but not this morning when I had to get 8 loads of laundry to the laundromat!! I used a regular hammer and tapped my key. After 3 tries it worked!! I am keeping that hammer in the car for the next time, until I can save enough to get it fixed.
So yesterday I arrived at un unloading with my truck, stopped on the weighing platform and went to the office to present papers, come back to the truck and the key doesn't fully enter the ignition and I can't start the truck. The company has only one weighing platform and every truck has to be weighed when he gets in and out. So I'm now stuck on the platform and worse, no-one can load or do deliveryes since the platform is now blocked by me, I tried about 40 minutes to start the truck but nothing, I was waiting for the repair service to come and while I was waiting for them and telling other angry truckers that the platform will soon be freed ( not very probable since to replace the thing where you put the key would take a while) so I checked on the internet to see if there is any solution and found this video, needless to say it didn't work :( Just kidding, it worked immediately and I can't thank you enough for saving my ass
It worked 🙌🏾 I used a hammer and gently tapped on it.. This is a first time experience for me and I looked online and ran across this video and it definitely worked for me but just for safe keeps I'll more than likely keep a hammer or a high heel in the car with me🤦🏾♀️ LBVS!! I'm glad I was already at home when this happened!! Definitely will be getting this fixed tho!!
Hi everyone...Warren I couldn't believe that you were basically talking about the same way my key was reacting ,it felt like the key wasn't going in enough...broke down yesterday and for love nor money I couldn't get the key to turn ,had breakdown come out and he still couldn't do anything. So I tried this ,and you guessed it...it works..had to use a hammer ,didn't want to but that is all I had ,hit it about 4 times and hayprestow ...still can feel that there is still something catching slightly but who cares...Thank you once again Warren..
OMG!!! I am such a girly girl, but my parents needed their truck fixed, and I didn't have all the money. This video just saved us!!! Thank you so much! I feel all empowered and shyt! lol lol
I had this problem last night at work going home. Have to use Uber to get home. Since we do not have a mallet/hammer at work, I saw 2" x 4" wood and gave it a try. It works!!! Thank you very much!!! :)
Key is cut incorrectly or cuts/depths too worn down in some cases not allowing to correspond correctly in binding order to turn cylinder or ignition switch getting stuck (common)
Thanks, Warren! My 2006 F150 locked up but the rubber mallet did the trick. I started with a tap and ended up giving it a pretty good smack before it finally worked... Nine years later and still a hero.
This happened to me this morning. Went to move the truck so I can take the trash to the curve for disposal..... I was like.... Well.... maybe I haven't woken up yet, so I tried again nothing. Maybe the steering wheel was locked.... nope nothing, so I said forget it. Picked up the trash can which is very heavy push it over the truck slid it down on the side of the truck and rolled it to the Curve!!!! Saw this video.... could find a doggone hammer for the life of me.... so I had a old door knob that I removed from one of my doors in my home.... Hit it twice and it turned... You are amazing. You are now my internet God. Thank you😇
That's what I thought. Then the biggest locksmith in our county said graphite was bad. Use Tri-Flow. So I tried that and it stopped turning completely. aarrrggghhh
Jacki Velez it's actually easier if you hold the key like if your turning it to the on position and with a screwdriver that has a rubber handle you can use that. what it does it mmhelps release any debri that may be in their or a stuck wafer that sometimes it may jam due to the fact of dirt and not enough grease inside the cylinder. I use to buy some cans from ace when I was a locksmith they like 1.50 power lube, that makes wonders on all locks. If you spray a little bit just use the key to turn it once or twice and you should see some dirt or carbon on the tip of the key.
I was skeptical to say the least but with nothing else to do I gave it a try. It worked ! Had to get it to turn so I could align the pin to pull the old one out and was getting ready to drill it. Very surprised and grateful.
DAAAAMMMNNNN IT REALLY WORKED!!!!!! JUST TRIED IT TODAY 06/05/2019 MY 2008 SONATA WOULDN'T TURN I WAS ALREADY ACCEPTING THE IDEA OF PAYING $200+ TO FIX IT SAW THIS VIDEO I THOUGHT "WHY NOT?" AND THIS ACTUALLY WORKED!!! THANK YOU MAN BIG THUMBS UP
dude me and my friend have been battling this problem in his 03 sonota and they do not sell ignition lock cylinders for that car so maybe we will try this tomarrow
yea be careful cause you can bend the key, or worse, break it, you have to have a perfect straight on tap, not from an angle at all, that is what can bend the key.
This will only work if its the tumblers getting hung. Wont do anything if its because of a worn key. (accept probably damage something worst then it is) That said this can be a good temporary fix for dodge/jeep/chrysler (doesnt work to well on other autos) but you should still consider contacting a locksmith to have the ignition refitted with new wafers. Its much cheaper when lock is functioning which it probably wont be for much longer.
omg thanks to the person who posted this video this shit happen to me 3 am in the morning came look on the tube found this vid I did"nt have a hammer but some pliers did the trick smack once , twice I was on my way vooooommmmm
I was just stuck in a parking lot for 2 hours not able to turn ignition key, was really frustrated and pissed off. I decided to RUclips problem and ran across this video. And so, I hit key, with key in ignition with big channel locks. And It freakin worked the first time. Wow Thank you!
So thankful for this video!! My key was stuck with the car on and this worked on the second try. We didn't have a rubber mallet so we used a screwdriver that had a plastic handle. Thank you so much - we tried for about 40 minutes to get the car turned off. The neighbor even unhooked the battery and it still stayed on.

Cheers

But not for the faint of heart if you don't like getting your hands greasy!
p
This would have been my next suggestion.
Now that you were able to get it to turn, pull out the ignition and clean and lubricate it.
Just did this and IT WORKED!! Used the only thing I could find in my car...a high heel 😂
😭
Oh my gosh really!? Haha, I'm trying to fix a neighbour's car but I'm scared to break it (or the key) if I do this
@@JessentialLife if they care then they should take it to a professional
@@JessentialLife bit late but I just had to do it too and it worked. Solid sturdy hit right on the key and it was done. Took me one try with a ball peen hammer. 03 liberty
We’ll just broke the fucking thing
THIS FREAKING WORKED GREAT!!!! YOU SAVED ME THE COST OF A NEEDLESS TOW CHARGE AND REPAIR! THANKS!!!!!
I cant believe it worked, our car of 15 years started to do that and you saved us from paying a tow truck! Thanks!
Thank God for this video. I was literally stuck for hours stressed. Found this and it worked 🙌🏾
I was stuck at a truck stop for hours with the same issue saw this video and tried it. didnt have a mallet so I used the palm of my hand, worked like a champed. Thank You Internet
MY GOODNESS! I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT JUST HAPPENED! You are a saviour ❤️❤️
So funny that this video continues to help so many people.
What type of lock lubricant did you use by chance?!
Thank you for posting this!! I'm literally in the forest and this happened.. didn't have a mallet, but improvised.
Thank you so much!
Hell yeah buddy thanks
Thank you
Yeah I had a Nissan Altima that would do that off and on and it would unlock in the way you describe. Definitely try that first. Hitting anything on your car-especially anything with electronic components-with a rubber mallet should always be avoided if possible. 😄
Thank you, it works!
Came across this video when I was desperate to find a quick fix...just tried it and it worked! Thank you so much for posting this! Definitely made my day 100% better being I had already called a locksmith for locking my keys in the jeep this morning!
Happy Holidays in deed!
Thank you for this, had the same problem yesterday and it worked. Afterwards I bought a quick release keychain so I could eliminate any weight on my key ring. Saved my Christmas 😁
Good idea
It worked on our 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 and saved us a tow, thank you very much for posting this video.
Un-be-frickin-lievable! that worked!! Thank you Internet!
This was awesome! We tried everything else till we got to this video and it worked!
I'm getting the cylinder replaced next week once the parts show up.
thats great, temp fix, glad to hear your getting it fixed proper too.
Oh Damn it !!! The car won't Start Again....
Honey, Please Pass me that Hammer in the Glove Box . I Love it.
Lmao
After this happened I’m keeping a hammer with me all the time

After a locksmith failed to help me with a new key, this worked and saved me a costly tow. Many thanks!!!
people who brake his key you have to do it gentle. it works for me thank you! Warren you are the best
Thank you so much for your video. It really helped me minutes ago to unlock my car ignition switch after following your guidelines and watching your experience and taking me out of this dilemma. I had the exact same problem and your method worked. YOU’RE THE BEST!!! Thank you again!!!
Awesome. Thx
This worked on my 93 Honda Accord just now - thanks!!!
This is one of my favourite comments on this video!!!
Do not use WD 40, this is what it does to lock cylinders. 4. Locks. The spray can prematurely wear down the internal mechanisms, especially in the pin tumbler locks, in door locks and padlocks. Go for graphite powder.
What vehicle?
Karma. Be humble an be honest that the dealer was wrong
my nasty neighbor likes to put super glue in all my locks. but WD-40 seems to loosen that up
Couldn’t turn the ignition key in my 2006 Explorer yesterday and was late for work (took wife’s car).

I worked for me 6 months ago. Didn't have a hamer, so I used my shoe.
It happened again yesterday...and same trick.😘
learn from that and replace the cylinder
Just tried it on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma, (it was towed to my home) and it didn't work. I spent a good 15 minutes hitting it- all I wanted to do is to turn it to accessory to push the pin so I can pull the cylinder out. I probably need to drill it out- ( not a fun or easy job) it seem like a great idea if it works- and by all the comments it has worked for many. Thanks for the video Warren and for the many you have helped.
Been stranded all Albertsons since 11:30a it is now 7:51 pm. I watched your video and it worked instantly. God's sent your here dude. Love from Cali 🌴
I just need to turn it once to get the Cylinder pin exposed to remove it and put a new one in.....
worked perfectly on old Opel Astra! Thanks for this cool hammer solution.
This worked for me in my 08 Ford Expedition! Thank you so much!!

I am keeping that hammer in the car for the next time, until I can save enough to get it fixed.
nice
So yesterday I arrived at un unloading with my truck, stopped on the weighing platform and went to the office to present papers, come back to the truck and the key doesn't fully enter the ignition and I can't start the truck. The company has only one weighing platform and every truck has to be weighed when he gets in and out. So I'm now stuck on the platform and worse, no-one can load or do deliveryes since the platform is now blocked by me, I tried about 40 minutes to start the truck but nothing, I was waiting for the repair service to come and while I was waiting for them and telling other angry truckers that the platform will soon be freed ( not very probable since to replace the thing where you put the key would take a while) so I checked on the internet to see if there is any solution and found this video, needless to say it didn't work :(
Just kidding, it worked immediately and I can't thank you enough for saving my ass
thats an awesome story, hearing this, now you have made my day

Hi everyone...Warren I couldn't believe that you were basically talking about the same way my key was reacting ,it felt like the key wasn't going in enough...broke down yesterday and for love nor money I couldn't get the key to turn ,had breakdown come out and he still couldn't do anything.
So I tried this ,and you guessed it...it works..had to use a hammer ,didn't want to but that is all I had ,hit it about 4 times and hayprestow ...still can feel that there is still something catching slightly but who cares...Thank you once again Warren..

Thanks, Warren! My 2006 F150 locked up but the rubber mallet did the trick. I started with a tap and ended up giving it a pretty good smack before it finally worked... Nine years later and still a hero.

I love this method. Going to try this on my van.
Worked first time I was so stressed out 🤦🏾♂️
IT WORKS!!! I had this problem with a '05 Ford F-150, I banged on the key with a ruber mallet and Wa-La it worked. 30-second quick fix.
Thank you😇
dry graphite is best for lock cylinders. :)
That's what I thought. Then the biggest locksmith in our county said graphite was bad. Use Tri-Flow. So I tried that and it stopped turning completely. aarrrggghhh
I'm going to try that now. Hopefully it works on a 2005 dodge durango
Omg I think I love you! Thank you so much, fixed in 30 second
gotta love a girl that carries a rubber mallet LOL
Jacki Velez it's actually easier if you hold the key like if your turning it to the on position and with a screwdriver that has a rubber handle you can use that. what it does it mmhelps release any debri that may be in their or a stuck wafer that sometimes it may jam due to the fact of dirt and not enough grease inside the cylinder. I use to buy some cans from ace when I was a locksmith they like 1.50 power lube, that makes wonders on all locks. If you spray a little bit just use the key to turn it once or twice and you should see some dirt or carbon on the tip of the key.

Do not mess with a girl with a mallet, give her the respect that she deserves!

THANK YOU MAN BIG THUMBS UP
dude me and my friend have been battling this problem in his 03 sonota and they do not sell ignition lock cylinders for that car so maybe we will try this tomarrow
what if it only gets stuck sometimes. .but then other times it turns...??? should I still do this ..because its aggravating
I have the same problem with my truck :( did you figure out the problem ?
+Unique Perez no it still gets stuck..but it's just sometimes I was scared to hit it because I thought I may break it :-(.
+goldmouth100 I figured out that all we need is a new ignition cylinder (: can purchase it at auto zone .
+Unique Perez ohhhhhhh really did you put it on yourself ????
yea be careful cause you can bend the key, or worse, break it, you have to have a perfect straight on tap, not from an angle at all, that is what can bend the key.
Key Works Yep! This trick will only work so many times. Sidebar failure isn't gonna fix itself.
O..
omg thanks to the person who posted this video this shit happen to me 3 am in the morning came look on the tube found this vid I did"nt have a hammer but some pliers did the trick smack once , twice I was on my way vooooommmmm
I was just stuck in a parking lot for 2 hours not able to turn ignition key, was really frustrated and pissed off.
I decided to RUclips problem and ran across this video.
And so, I hit key, with key in ignition with big channel locks.
And It freakin worked the first time. Wow
Thank you!
Awesome. Thanks
