"A step here" rear bumper hangs off 🤣
It’s pretty solid, SAIC know how to makes vehicles just look at the new MG4
Nice review. Hits all the high points and practical elements of the truck.👍
Thank you Fred, considering it’s the first of its kind in the UK it’s rather impressive and has a decent level of equipment.
@@PlanetautoUK calling it like I see it.
Sadly, a lot of people are jaded by EV's - and in a nutshell, the Chinese are pretty damn good at making electric powertrains. Thank you, Fred *A
I came here to look at a review because I’d seen some parked up at a dealership in Lincolnshire. They shocked me; surface rust was present on the chassis. Okay, they have a 5 year warranty. Rusting, already, means in the damp U.K., they probably won’t survive many years beyond their warranty.
Chassis or panels?
@@PlanetautoUKchassis under the bed. They aren’t that worried. It’s only ‘surface’. They are confident it’ll last 5 years and won’t perforate. I can’t get my head around selling a brand new vehicle which comes with rust as standard.
Was it one or a number of them?
@@PlanetautoUKI looked at 3
@sullivanrachael interesting thank you il see what I can find out ☺️
Love your blogs
Thank you Neville - glad you enjoy them! *A
Not a bad looking pickup. That electric sound is pretty cool. The rear tailgate looks very American, in my opinion. What do you think? :)
It’s an excellent way to test the ev pickup market in the UK, be interesting to see how the diesel drives too. Thank you Matt
a quick flashback, maxus pickup begin their 4x4 venture with ford using their ranger platform. Which T60 maxus is based from.
@amierghafran8723 Maxus used to be LDV here
I took one for a spin recently, and was very underwhelmed by it.
It felt very cheap and low quality. Thin steel, a few shitty welds, no cruise control is just a joke. Also the choice to have Apple car play but not Android auto.
And that 3 pin is 150w. You're not running anything off that really. Neither power tools nor coffee marker will work off that.
And it costs as much as the peugeot e-expert pickup here in sweden. Which won't do offroad like this, but has similar specs and better quality on road.
Interesting about the 150w, it felt sturdy and similar to pickups here to be honest, I’d call it strong far less flex than others, we thought interior wise it was on a par with others, tech wise lacking though, the drive impressive even with load. Considering it’s there first ev pickup it’s not bad at all, and will only get better. Thank you Matthias
Yes, it’s been like this since it’s unveil at the CV Show, it didn’t stop us off-roading it with a load.
Serious contender for first UK market entry. Saic have a good EV pedigree already. This is a good looking, practical vehicle that ticks a lot of boxes. I wonder how many people actually use 4WD in anger in the real world. I’ve had a 4WD drive in the household for last 7 years, and can only remember one early morning airport trip when it was snowing heavily, and it felt more secure, although with standard tyres, grip was comprised! Good review as always Ben👍
Thank you George, yes - it’ll suit tradesmen etc down to the ground as well as being the ideal leisure pickup, it’s well priced too and as you say SAIC have established themselves as being EV pioneers with a good track record, lots more coming from Maxus. We’ll keep you posted.
At the end of the day there are certain road conditions that will unhinge any vehicle. As far as RWD goes, you add a winch to this and it’s as capable as any other 4x4 (as in all things - to a point) have you seen our vid where we take it off road, and test the load? *A
If it scrabbled all over the shop i’d agree with you, but this doesn’t, you can essentially climb up rocks etc due to the torque and weight - unladen - it surprised us, when the 4x4 comes that’ll be unstoppable.
Watch this space, thank you The Toaster and stay safe
This is a mean machine no doubt about it..if I looked in the mirrors & saw one coming up behind me I'd think let it pass 😁 As you said Ben in cars the ev's add going on for up to £10k if not more to the price of a petrol/diesel vehicle wher as this is the same price 🤔 mmmmmm...something needs addressing in the car manufacturers agenda! surprised no DAB radio on a vehicle costing so much 🤔 but overall the styling looks pretty damn good on the eye...hope you git the loose gravel swept up before you gave the dealership the vehicle back 😉 can't believe that was filming in the lakes as it was cold, damp & gloomy 😂😂😂😂excellent review as always planet auto 🚘 👍
Thank you, David - glad you enjoyed it. Ben and I were good automotive journalists, as we washed, cleaned and hoovered it all before it got collected. Mind you, it needed it, as it was rather grubby by the time we had finished, lol. You make a good point in regards to the pricing, and we saw the same when the MG4 was released. Anything that can make things more cost effective can only be a good thing, especially at the moment. *A
How long does it take to charge roughly at a garage as i dont have the possibility of a home charger
20 - 80% in 45 mins approx on a rapid charger and you’ll find them at supermarkets and McDonalds typically, thank you Mike
@PlanetautoUK Brilliant, thanks alot for the speedy reply 👍
@mikewalker2068 you’re very welcome mention us if you choose to get one, we’ve also vids on off-roading and load carrying - it surprised us off-road being 2WD
Ah, good old Cumbrian weather. I really like the look of this, I want one as a second vehicle for short stop start journeys, just the thing that kills modern diesels with stupid EGR and DPF strangulators !
It's amazing how many people we know who have had serious DPF problems. There are benefits to an EV powertrain, and it's extremely cost effective when you charge it at home. Thank you, @ianwalker4803
Crazy over seas this is a commercial vehicle
It can qualifies and can carry the required payload, simple as that Justin 😀
Great review and the first full one I've seen. I think other car reviews will miss the point of this pickup by comparing it to a 4x4 or stating it's caring specs are less and doesn't tow enough. I think it will suit many trades people who use small two seat work vans and have a cheap second car this double cab could replace. Also most who have a diesel pickup don't use it's full capacity because they don't work on a farm so electric will work perfectly. Personally I'd like one to replace my ZS ev.
Glad you enjoyed it, Andy. Have to agree with you on the versatility of this new ev pickup - it's got so many applications, and they are only just getting started with it. It's going to be interesting to see where SAIC Maxus take this. When you get down to brass tacks - this looks, feels and drives like a pickup - it's just an electric one! *A
😂 Step nearly falls off 8 minutes in.. I think i will wait a few more years 🇬🇧 for some proper trucks to come
Oh, can you give us the exact time code please? because as I remember it they were sturdy as and if they don’t give in after 18st me bouncing all over the shop - they’re going nowhere - try one for yourself
8:16
Yet they’re still accounted for in the next shots…curious
8:15 OMG that step allmost collapsed
Said no one ever 🫠
No I seen that too
You didn’t because I bounce up and down on it at 18st - think of it logically, it has to have flex if it was rigid it’d be a liability offroad
A RUclips guy has just got one for £99 per month.
We’ve one coming on long term review Garry 😀
Even with its limitations it’s an absolute bargain.
@garrycroft4215 it is, we expect to see a 4x4 sooner rather than later too
You can have the t90 for the same price as a diesel hilux. I'll take the hilux as it will last longer than 10 years and can offroad...
If you want a quality cheap Chinese pickup, get a greatwall.
You can off-road in this, we’ve a video coming out this weekend, yes a Hilux is very good, but in the UK with bik, tax etc a diesel won’t do you any favours nowadays, plus the warranty is impressive.
Tows a braked trailer of only 1.5T. A 220 mile range but that’s not towing. And it’s not 4WD. No use to me to tow cars. The vehicle I currently use to transport cars tows 3.2T, is permanent 4WD and has a towing range of over 300 miles and is ready to go again in 5 minutes. These electric vehicles have a long way to go to be truly commercial options for serious trades
As we explained, it’ll not suit everyone, we use Musso to tow, only uk pickup to tow 3.5 and carry 1T on simultaneously - this is the first one, it’ll be interesting to see what their 4x4 will be like, Rivian currently are crushing any diesel pickup in the UK.
