I am 88 years old and remember in the Third Grade in Wichita, Kansas, we were taken by bus to the East High School Auditorium for an orchestral performance that included Peter And The Wolf. I was enchanted, and had a crush on the Harpist, who was positioned on the left side of the orchestra near where I was sitting - beautiful lady with a big smile for us children. That must have been in 1945. I have such fond memories of that day and have remembered the experience as one of the most memorable of my childhood. Today I have a wonderful relationship with classical music, and I introduce children to Peter And The Wolf whenever possible.
I’ve never spoken to a person of such age. How was it living back then? I’d love to hear how you went from no modern technology to seeing the internet happen.. blessings sir !
And what an adorable version we have here with just wind instruments !!! Even Peter's strings theme sound perfect ! Suggestive painted animals so artistic.
I am 67 years old and when I was a girl in the 1960s , my Dad introduced me to “Peter and the Wolf” to teach me about musical instruments and how they sound. He even took me to a concert of “Peter and the Wolf”. That is a beautiful memory with my Dad of my childhood. Now, I introduced “Peter and the Wolf” to my 3 years old grandson , he recognizes the music.
MY Mom had played the alto clarinet in her high-school, she could also play a saxophone the piano and drums... Me I tried to learn how to play a guitar when I was in my 20s... I only got as far as the G string when my co worker was put on a shift so he couldn't teach me any more... It was my mother who introduced me to classucal music ..My DAD and Uncles Jazz, Rock and Country...
And just like that I’m 4 yrs old back in 1970, in pre-school, listening to this during nap time. I can remember being so captivated listening to how the instruments sounded like the animals. ☺️
1 am 70 years old. I was at Auburn Elementary in Alabama. In 1st grade after lunch we would listened to this. I loved it. That's how I learned the sounds of instruments.
My one year old dos not sit still... unless she's watching your fantastic rendition of Peter and the Wolf. Her favourite part is the bird, and she never hesitates to wave at it whenever it's flying about and "singing". Thank you for this amazing gift of music and animation that we can share together early in the morning while mum still sleeps!
I' m looking at this many many many times with my 4 yrs old granddaughter, after I read her the book. She doesn't understand English, but that's never an obstacle. She loves to see this, also helps when she's upset. She can sing the melodies and knows the instruments...❤❤❤❤
This is one of the best (and most creative) performances of this difficult piece I've heard and seen. The ensemble is extremely talented, and I have no idea of how they pulled this off performing remotely. Loved the narrator too. But OMG the animations. . . Nikki Pet is one talented person. So, so creative. Thank you so much for sharing your talents.
How does this not have more views??? If you're the type of parent that sticks their kid in front of cocomelon for an hour, this might not be something you seek out. But if your kid watches swan lake and the nutcracker, book read alouds, and old jazz videos, this is so perfect. The adorable simple animation, seeing each instrument represent a character so clearly... in case you wanted to know how high I was on my horse over here.
I was looking for Peter and the wolf for my first grader and I was not disappointed! It was so well done and great introduction to music with a story. I refuse to show them cocomelon. 😆
@@katiemurphy3601 amazon prime has the royal ballet nutcracker which is by far the best version. They show the orchestra a lot and and dancing is great. I think its $10. We had it on in the background for hours during Christmas and it was so nice!
Remember the times I would take my nap in front of the beautiful faux combo TV/STEREO!! TO THIS DAY, I'M NOW 60YO I cherish this memory..... and thanks mom.
I remember watching this on VHS when I was in school aged about 5. I was transfixed! This was my introduction to classical music. I’m 35 now and I play piano, go to the opera and today I was learning Paganini’s 24th Caprice 💙
I'm so proud of the students and my colleagues at Yale and impressed with how creatively everyone has adapted to this difficult year. Clarinetist Nikki Pet is the editor, sound engineer and animator, with guidance from Matt Lefevre, the Media Production Manager at the Yale School of Music. The musicians and narrator did a wonderful job coached by Ransom Wilson.
Yes, listened to this many times as a kid must have influenced my love of music. Also my dad playing marching (military ) and all of us dancing around the house to Irish songs …..
I remember this when I was five, I fell in love, I equated instruments and characters when I heard instrumental songs. I’m so great-full for my music/choir teacher’s introducing me to this beautiful world of instruments and all genres of music appreciation, that’s been over 15 years ago. Thank you for sharing your magic ❤️
I'm so sad these five amazing musicians never got the chance to play in person together. This project is wonderfully put together from video recordings, colored illustrations, and the narrator's "black and white silent movies" narration slides.
This is fantastic!! My 4th graders will attend a live performance of PATW in Feb 2023 and I was looking for a fresh take on the score and absolutely LOVE the instrumental visuals and the updated look. Thank you!!!!!
I had a cassette tape of this when I was a child. It took me to a magical world as a child and to this day its still beautiful to listen to. Thanks for sharing 🙏
My two year old and I listened to this version in the car for several weeks before watching the video. We immediately fell in love. The musical performance and narration are that strong and compelling. Then we watched the video and it became obvious this is the best version I’ve found. The animation provides just the right amount of movement and color but allows/encourages the child to complete the pictures in their mind instead of just zoning out. A masterpiece of music presented with the respect it deserves. Bravo.
It is so heartening to enjoy these women in this marvelous production. As a retired teacher, l have always appreciated, enjoyed , and used this particular music with my students, even though it wasn’t strictly on the “curriculum.” I hum it even now frequently. I realize the music is the point, however, the apex in the video is that you are skilled, talented, practiced women who have put in great effort and achieved the height of perfection. What a truly masterful performance. THANK YOU. I wish also to convey a THANK YOU the illustrator, for the shiningly beautiful presentation. This is a video to be cherished, and l do.
Believe it or not, I found this performance while taking a class on beat-making by ill.Gates. In my 50 years, I don’t think I’d heard the story. A very good lesson in sounds/instruments as characters in a narrative. This particular one has great performances all around, and wonderful animation! Kind of a 1970s Charles Shultz vibe. Loved it!
Through many years teaching early childhood, I have helped to inspire children to appreciate musical interpretation using this work. Finally, I have the ideal resource for future lessons thanks to this performance that beautifully combines all of the elements that lend themselves to the child's imagination! Bravo!!!
This was perfect as a culmination lesson! Perfect length and I loved that my 1st grade students could see each instrument being played next to the character. Bravo!
BRAVO! To Yale's Chamber group for their version of Prokofiev's story and music. I had my doubts, big doubts. How could this piece be performed without strings?? But I was quickly and easily assured of authenticity and so impressed. I can't wait to share this video with my 2 1/2 yr old grandaughter! Thank you so much, one and all!
Thank you for this beautiful and mesmerising masterpiece..I used to hear it as a child ...without animation at the time...and I have never forgotten it. I'm so happy to find it here, so beautifully rendered. I watched it now with my 5-year-old daughter who absolutely loved it
Just discovered this jewelry you have made not only musically relevant but the animation is amazing, so warm and childish so lovely congratulations to you all!
Give all credit for a wonderful performance. The clarinetist gives a light touch and expression in that instruments lower registers that very often come across as the heavy fog horn. May all have bright futures!
This is so wonderful. I have a 4 year old daughter, and she can't stop listening to it. Now she'll sing one of the lines and ask me which character it is. Congratulations to you all on pulling this together so beautifully, especially during the pandemic.
A truly beautiful and absolutely spectacular arrangement of this amazing piece!! Beautifully played by you all!! I love listening to woodwind which is my favourite part of the orchestra. I play flute, oboe, soprano and alto saxophone and a little clarinet, and it really has been a joy for me to watch and listen to this arrangement of "Peter and the Wolf"!! I'm especially enjoying playing my oboe at the moment, which is a fairly new thing as I took it up just over a year ago on my birthday!! I would love to find the sheet music for the oboe part of Peter and the Wolf, I would love to learn it, so I will be having a good hunt to see if I can find it anywhere. God bless you all fabulous musicians!! Pure class and talent all round. XXX🤩
I remember watching this as a kid in music class. Except the animation we watched had the instruments as the characters (imagine a bassoon with Googly eyes bouncing around your screen). Tonight I was at bar trivia and the question was “what brass instrument was the wolf?” Sad to say I could only remember the bassoon as the grandfather, likely because the imagine of a bassoon with googly eyes has stuck with me! I could hear the music in my head when they read the question, so I sought out this video and I’m happy I remembered the music correctly. This video is great, I hope I will be able to find it again when I have kids someday.
Wonderful how the incredible musicians were combined with the beautiful artwork to show both the music and story visually! Wow, the duck in the gastric juices!
Phenomenal performance. This was extraordinary. Nikki you are truly a great producer and performer and have always been from a very young age. I was truly amazed by this beautiful piece of work. Proud of you and wish you. Looking forward to more. 😘
Thank you very much for this great performance. My 3-year-old daughter and I have enjoyed it very much. The ilustrations and narrator are the perfect match for the music, indeed.
This is just amazing, thank you so much. So sorry you couldn't perform it all together in the same place due to the pandemic. Its a brilliant performance, thank you.
This is an excellent production! Thank you! I don't know if this is possible, but if you could re-edit the illustrated end to show the wolf spitting out the duck, alive, it would really help with kindergarten classes. They are usually the most scared of the wolf and one way I help them to be less scared is to tell them he swallows the duck alive and then coughs him out in the end. Many productions show this. I understand if you can't, but it would really help with the littles.

Frank Zappa. A Christmas story. And this. Go hand in hand
Scut farcus. He had yellow eyes. Yellow eyes. Frank Zappa has a song called billy the mountain based off this composition

My life is now all about peter and the wolf this year
Wonderful ❤❤

damn if this was 45 you are quite seasoned haha, thank you and keep on listening..
That's wonderful. I have similar memories. Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories.
My father is 82 and from Wichita Kansas. Did you know the Matthews family?
I’ve never spoken to a person of such age. How was it living back then? I’d love to hear how you went from no modern technology to seeing the internet happen.. blessings sir !
What a lovely memory! Thank you!
This is one of those stories from being a kid that has enchanted me my whole life. It's magical

Peter and the wolf scares me when i was a kid lol! So much memories..
Yes, I was terrified! I would call my mum in to be with me during the scary parts!!
Yea, I heard the wolf leitmotif the other day somewhere, and it reminded me of a distant (and scary) childhood memory, so I had to look this up.
I remember having to sit on my teachers lap it scared me that much😂😂😂
And just like that I’m 4 yrs old back in 1970, in pre-school, listening to this during nap time. I can remember being so captivated listening to how the instruments sounded like the animals. ☺️
Took word right out of my mouth. For some reason this just came in my head at work
Same here!
Random personal observation:And now over 50 years later I can say all the animal names in Russian
I found the record for $5 last weekend.
Yep. I was born in 1974 and my family had this in our repertoire of vinyl records on the record player in the dining room❤

I grew up listening to this, one of my favorite childhood memories. What a great rendition!

Here in 2024! I remember learning this in music in elementary school. I wonder if they still do...
Little Nikki and the quintet knocked it out of the park!
>:)
I absolutely adore this. Thank you for recording and uploading it!
I remember goin to go see this live as a child with my school. I was so I'm awe

Great performance! thanks for posting! congratulations to all students and participants in this project.
Thank you!!
Beautifully done!!
Outstanding work. absolute beauty
This is just amazing, thank you so much. So sorry you couldn't perform it all together in the same place due to the pandemic. Its a brilliant performance, thank you.
I remember watching/listening to this in elementary's mandatory band class.
I cried wolf 🐺. One time to many Dad made me listen to this wow
I use this video to calm down my puppy. I have no idea why but it works every time!
Excellently performed and animation so child friendly. Missed the strings but a beautiful rendition. Thank you.
Is the girl playing clarinet in 1:05 the friend of Trombonetimo (to anyone who watched his vids)

Thank you so much!! 💜
Part of the "we have a substitute music teacher" starter pack
Love it💙
I saw a performance like this as a kid it was a great! thanks for making this, stoners paradise
They used to sit us down at primary school to listen to this all sat on the floor before "home time". 1970
Congratulations! This video is amazing!
Beautiful absolutely beautiful!😊😊😊
thanks so much!
This is gold 😮
It's so well presented and sweet 😄
Thanks!
Thank you ☺️
My favorite part was definitely Peter!!!
This is amazing!
Beautiful story with instruments!❤
The sound quality of the oboe is very versatile.
In Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, the oboe plays the part of the duck. 5:05
The oboe is said to be one of the more difficult woodwind instruments to play.
In general, the top laptop for a very long time, I'm already old, are you
This is amazing! Beautiful animations ❤️
thanksssss :)))))
This is really good
So lovely! Both visually and musically. Any chance you guys have a link to the art blankly that our kids could color or paint while listening?
I remember listening to this on tape and a film strip in elementary school.
This is GREAT
Anybody catch the typo at 18:45-left the word "wolf" out of the narration.
Nice creation...great work
How cute is this!!
Damn, this is fire🔥
reminds me of the movie Haunter Lisa plays those tunes.
Logically, the duck should not have appeared past 13:25, but Prokofiev isn't an ordinary composer. He found a way to get her into the finale anyway!
My teacher is teaching me thjs at school and this helped me alot! Also cna you add a hunters sound full?
