Ireland’s current leader, the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar will be fighting to win a third successive term in government for his party Fine Gael, but faces competition from the politically similar Micheál Martin and the Fianna Fail party.
The story this election however is the rising popularity of centre left party Sinn Féin, led by Mary Lou Mcdonald.
For decades Irish politics had been dominated by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, but now Sinn Féin are leading in the polls.
Will Sinn Féin’s ‘radical’ message on housing, inequality and the economy earn them a spot in the future of Irish government.
