Hey Pete. I thought of a great idea for a Hudson valley squares episode. Put the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc albums of a band against each other and pick your favorites. For example, on one episode put the 4th studio albums of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden against each other (Stained Class vs. Piece of Mind). On another episode put the 2nd studio albums of Judas Priest and Black Sabbath against each other (Sad wings of destiny vs. Paranoid). These albums are just examples and you can pick whatever ones you want. I thought this would be an interesting HVS series that would further “Spice up” this already awesome program. Thank you so much Pete for all you do, you are awesome!
Classic HSV episode with a full house and a fun topic. Highly entertaining and great participation by all the Squares. Thanks, everyone for another must-see episode.
Regarding REM, I'm a big metal fan that had no time for REM in the 90s. I still haven't fully warmed up to their biggest albums - they're just a little too syrupy sweet, or perhaps I've just heard the hits too many times. But from 'New Adventures in Hi-Fi' onward? Just a string of excellent albums. Highly recommended, especially New Adventures - it shows another side of the band that's not as immediately catchy and ultimately more rewarding.
Being a huge REM fan I actually find New Adventures pretty overrated although I do still like it. Personally, I prefer the early, jangle induced indie pop stuff, especially Murmur which is top 5 albums for me. Such a great band who changed their sound constantly with such a unique, eclectic catalogue. But I do agree, some of the hits I can easily do without.
@@JordanGill2002 Come see the REMakes in ATL if you love Murmur and the first 6 records. 90% of our songs are from that era and we play them very well. We only play few times/year now as we are too busy with life in our early 50's. It's lotta fun to rock out those old tunes.
@@michaelvandiver2475 sadly I live in Scotland so that would be some trip to see yous haha. I do agree though those early tunes are so fun to play. With playing guitar as a hobby I know all of Murmur back to front and I play along to it regularly. Laughing is a particular favourite of mine. Just such a beautiful, nostalgic, jangly song.

And even the hits fit in well and have a role to play on the albums. Ok ill say it, why even have anyone else on besides Karen. No one else can comment on anyone else's picks because she immediately starts commenting as soon as the next guest gives their pick
Since she doesn’t get Whitesnake. You talk to much (opening line from Slide it In). She doesn’t seem to get a lot of why people like said band. Also, the other two ladies are way better.
i was just tinkering around in my olive garden never ending pasta spaghetti plate and before you knew it i'd carved out a hole right in the center that would continously fill itself with warm marinara. my waitress walked by and teased me that i was playing in my food like a child and i said no acutally im thinking about david coverdale as a lady and said how the nest of noodles reminded me of a thick luxurious muff and how the hole in the center was not exactly but simular to what would be her void and then she my waitress her name was patricia took a breadstick and started poking around in it and said like this and i gave her a wink and said yeah just like that. then it turns out she had never heard of david coverdale or his band whitesnake but i wasnt really saddened by her ignorance.
Yes side 1 is stacked, but I love side 2! Fairies Wear Boots is lyrically goofy but musically amazing! The long intro is one of my favorite Sabbath moments
An old cast member on Sea of Tranquility was mentioned in this episode, Spaghetti Lee. Does anyone know whatever happened to that guy? I don’t think he even leaves comments anymore.
I've seen him commenting occasionally in recent times as George said. Spaghetti Lee used to actually guest on the show yes but even before that, years ago when I first used to watch SoT, Spaghetti was prolific with posts and he was always in the comments section. I asked Pete about him months ago when Pete was rebooting HVS and Pete said he hadn't heard from him in a while.
Never got into Ambrosia, but one song I kind of dig by them is How Much I Feel. And Hall and Oates was not ever on my playlist, but the song She's Gone is one I can go for. I will also add Dirty Lowdown by Boz Skaggs and Lido for that matter.
Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins……Live to Tell - Madonna……Here Comes the Rain Again - Eurythmics. All took on another dimension with mind altering substances consumed in the 80s!
Chris: "I don't even know if they play that song anymore" Oh they definitely do. I worked the Motley Crue tour last year and Poison played Unskinny Bop.
That combination did occur to me but i was putting the outfit together as cheaply as possible off the Walmart clearance racks. It would’ve been VERY yacht rock though! 😅
Monster Mash waa reissued as a 45 here in Australia in 1973. At the time I was in my early/mid teens when it came out and was unaware that it was an old song reissued. There was an album reissued with it too.
Changes- Yes My Michelle- Guns N Roses Games Without Frontiers- Peter Gabriel Cover Me- Bruce Springsteen Kryptonite- 3 Doors Down Misunderstanding- Genesis
I agree Outlaw Torn is the best Load and Reload song. I didnt even know until many years later that the song got cut down by a minute and there's a even longer studio version thats on The Memory Remains single.
Really good topic, ladies and gentlemen! Entertaining :) Well, my picks are: 1 - Sancta Terra by Epica. Really like the song, but still don't get their other stuff, though trying from time to time. 2 - Theme One by Van Der Graaf Generator. I acknowledge and appreciate their place in prog, listened to most of their catalogue - it's just not my cup of tea. Theme One, though, is a tune that I really enjoy and get back to listening to it from time to time (and I know the reason why). 3 - Serpents in Camouflage by Citizen Cain. I've listened to the rest of their catalogue. Some of it I liked, but Serpents is the only piece that makes me get back to it over and over again. Honorable mentions: Little Girl by Sandra, Christmas Eve by Savatage, Here Comes the Flood by Peter Gabriel, Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group, Take on Me by A-ha.
Pet Shop Boys: What Have I Done To Deserve This Blondie: Rapture Cher: Gypsies, Tramps, and Theives Tom Petty: Runnin' Down A Dream Tone Loc: Funky Cold Medina(only rap song I like) At least 20 more I won't list
SImple Minds "Don't You Forget About Me"; Don Johnson "Heartbeat"; and of course Robert Tepper "No Easy Way Out", that's a classic! Man, just in the 80s movie soundtracks there are so many of these! Thanks 🍺🤘
Great show folks! I second that Ryan on Mike and the mechanics song Silent Running that is an unreal song. Also one of their newer songs from the album Let Me Fly called Don’t Know What Came Over Me, great song.
Poison was one of my choices too, but I would have chosen the song something to believe in. Nick give this song a shot, if you haven't heard it yet. I think you'll dig it and dig the lyrics too. Very unpoisony
Oh What A Night - Franki Valli and the Four Seasons Dream Weaver - Gary Wright Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper Honorable mention: One Thing Leads To Another - The Fixx Something to Believe In - Poison It’s A Beautiful World - Devo Escape(The Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes Summer Breeze - Seals and Crofts My Sharona - The Knack Uncle John’s Band - The Grateful Dead At This Moment - Billy Vera and the Beaters Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
I agree with Count Ralfus' choices, although I do plan to try some more Ram Jam as I'm sure there must be other stuff similar to Black Betty, so ought to be good listening. A while back, I would have also said BOC "Don't Fear The Reaper" - because it was all I knew, but have bought a couple of albums so finding more I like by them now. Off the top of my head, my picks: (1) Living Colour - "Love Rears Its Ugly Head" - I bought the album "Time's Up" but can't say I love anything else on it. (2) Faith No More - "We Care A Lot" - I bought the album "Introduce Yourself" but.... ditto (3) The Knack - "My Sharona" - one of my favourite power-pop tracks, but I never delved any deeper... HM: Crash Test Dummies "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" - liked the track, but not sure I could listen to a whole album?
Everything except for Ratt cuz they’re smart enough to get Milton Berle in their video and in drag no less! Sincerely, DJP And cunt; Postmortem and Kilslug Sony; Earache 🇬🇧 Columbia and TAANG!! Records @ ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Boston Massachusetts Amerikkka naturally. Cheers 🥂
Nick, on the off chance of you reading this, I would recomment you listen to 'death in fire' by amon amarth. By what i feel like your taste is, you could dig it. Great video guys.

Bands I don’t care about, but like/love one song by: Social Distortion-I Was Wrong Fatboy Slim-Praise You Climax Blues Band-I Love You Big Audio Dynamite-Rush Soho-Hippychick Pat Benatar-We Belong Scandal-Goodbye To You Lumineers-Cleopatra
UFO never been a fan but Couldn’t Get It Right is my go to track Def Leppard Animal. Hair Metal sellout but love any version of this song ELP could never get into their looooong drawn out songs but when I hear these words, “Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends”, I’m all ears
My three choices for songs I love where I really don't care about anything else they did would be 1976 - STARLAND VOCAL BAND Afternoon Delight 1999 - NEW RADICALS You Get What You Give 1997 - MELISSA BROOKS Bitch Honorable mentions 1969 - THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN Something In The Air 1975 - SAILOR Glass of Champagne 1992 - 4 NON-BLONDES What's Up? 1982 - PETER SCHILLING Major Tom 2000 - WHEATUS Teenage Dirtbag
It was a hit just by chance again in ‘74 because some DJ in NYC played it and Bobby Borris Picket was driving a taxi at the time I heard him interviewrdy
I’ll rattle off a few: Halsey: Finally// Beautiful Stranger Olivia Rodrigo; Driver’s License Shinedown: Lost In The Crowd Lynx: Visions Periphery: Lune
Love it! Its so funny watching other members squirm when one of them suggests a band they hate and the one song they really like! 🤣 Shows how subjective music can be.
First of all, you NEVER apologize for what YOU like to listen to. Ryan said it best: "I like it, and I don't give a flippedy..." 1. Chambers Brothers - "Time Has Come Today" (1967) 2. Crazy Elephant - "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'" (1972) 3. Gary Glitter - "Rock and Roll, Parts 1 & 2 (1973) Honorable Mentions: Commodores - "Brickhouse" (1977) Norman Greenbaum - "Spirit in the Sky" (1970) Zager & Evans - "In the Year 2525" (1969) Waler Egan - "Magnet and Steel" (1978) Henry Gross - "Shannon" (1976) I obviously grew up on AM radio. Many had sappy lyrics, but you can understand them. Some songs had a meaning or they were just fun to listen to.
Addicted To Love - Robert Palmer All Out of Love - Air Supply Baby blue - Badfinger Lwet your love flow - The Bellamy brothers We're gonna rock around the clock - Bill Haley All right - Christopher cross Killer Klowns - The Dickies (sound track) Hocus Pocus - Focus Radar Love - GOlden Earring My Sharona - The Knack Easy Lover - Philip Bailey + Collins Bird of Paradise - Snowy White (probably my all time fav song). Also I think Autograph gets not enough love here here! Sign in Please has some great songs and that's the stuff is a great album too. Songs like ''Built for Speed, hammerhead, send her to me. If you are into glam/hair there is some enjoyment to be found imo.
My number 1 pick for this topic is Surrender by Cheap Trick. I've heard a couple other Cheap Trick tracks and enjoy them but haven't had a desire to check out and of their other music. Surrender, on the other hand, might be my all time favorite song.
I'm with Steves pick on Brandy by Looking Glass...my others would be: "Dancing In The Moonlight" - King Harvest "Silvia's Mother" - Dr. Hook "Time To Pretend" - MGMT "Sweetness"- Jimmy Eat World Great topic people.
I’ll be interested to see if anyone on the show names any of these songs. They’re all songs I heard on the radio when I was young, & I absolutely loved. Years later I checked the artists out. I was disappointed that their other songs were nothing like the songs I loved. So frustrating. I loved these songs so much, but nothing else from the artists that put them out. Lee Michaels -“Do You Know What I mean” Climax Blues Band -“Couldn’t Get It Right” Sniff ‘n’ the Tears -“Driver’s Seat”
Was going to watch this, but 15 minutes into the video it was clear the title was misleading. Mostly this seemed to be I couldn't work within the category and was too lazy to put in the effort.
There's a lot more artists that I don't particularly love that have a few songs that I like. But only one song? I gotta think about that.... Here's my picks: I don't really care about Dave Matthews Band, but Dave Matthews has a solo song called "Gravedigger" that is really cool. I'm never really been a watcher of HBO's True Blood, but I do really love the show's theme song "Bad Things" by Jace Everett. I'm not a big fan of The Smiths, but their song "How Soon is Now?" has a really cool atmosphere to it. I like the song "Starseed" by 90's post grunge band Our Lady Peace, but I'm pretty meh about the rest of their stuff. I'm pretty meh about a lot of post grunge, but I can pick certain songs from those type of bands that I really like.
Heat of the Moment is an amazing song! I got into it during lockdown it seemed to really speak to me. Have you listened much to the rest of the album? If you have and don't particularly dig it, fair play but if not, really give it a go. Some of those songs can be slow burners, spend time with it - as Pete would say. Now I love all of it! Only time will tell, Sole Survivor, One Step Closer, to name a few. It did take for me but now it's a real favourite with no dud tracks on it!
Boyz II Men - End Of The Road (I think this song actually has Toto connections to it) Paramore - Ain't It Fun (I heard Dennis DeYoung, formerly of Styx, likes this catchy and fun number, too) Sara Bareilles - Love Song (catchy and fun, but I don't consider myself a fan of hers) Martika - Toy Soldiers Expose - 3 songs - Point Of No Return, Let Me Be The One and Seasons Change (just those three) DeBarge - Time Will Reveal Ray Parker Jr. / Raydio - You Can't Change That Michael Jackson - Off The Wall Janet Jackson - 2 songs - When I Think Of You (solo) and Diamonds (Herb Alpert feat. Janet Jackson) Brothers Johnson - Stomp! Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You Michael Morales - Who Do You Give Your Love To? Gwen Stefani - Cool Patrice Rushen - Forget Me Nots Irene Cara - Fame (WAY better than her other big chart topping hit Flashdance (What A Feeling)) Killswitch Engage - My Curse (single and music video version, NOT the album version)
Early Whitesnake is criminally underrated. Nighthawk (Vampire Blues) might be one of my all time favorite songs. That entire "Trouble" album fucking rips!
Depeche Mode : Personal Jesus Duran Duran : Hungry Like The Wolf The Fixx: One Thing Leads To Another Gary Numan: Cars Lene Lovich : Lucky Number And the undisputed championship belt goes too……….. 🎊 Hoobastank: The Reason 🎊
@@NaughtyVampireGod I always preferred "Are Friends Electric" (Tubeway Army) to "Cars" (Gary Numan) - if you don't know it then check it out. I also need to listen to some of his more recent albums, as other comments (eg. to the 70s shows) said they were good.
Guys and Gal…… it seems it’s been years since I’ve watched and/or participated in a Hudson Valley Squares segment. Real life has been too damned busy! However here are my three favorite songs from bands that I either didn’t care for or never got into the rest of their discography - no specific order: 1. 1983 - Men Without Hats - Safety Dance…. I’m a child of the 80’s and I was a little kid when I saw that video on MTV and was hooked ever since. 2. 1985 - Cindy Lauper - Good Enough from one of my all time favorite movies, the Goonies. Enough said there. 3. 1967 - Bee Gees - To Love Somebody. I saw it on VH1 when Peter Noone used to host My Generation. Song was catchy and I was about 9 when I saw it on the channel many years ago. Cheers and enjoy music!

Whitesnake throughout 1978-'84 rules, fantastic heavy Blues Rock, "Lovehunter" from '79 remains my favorite album of theirs.
I'm still a "Trouble" guy myself, but I totally agree. Early Whitesnake needs and deserves way more respect.
I love Saints & Sinners
I feel the exact same way as Rob when it comes to The Turtles "Happy Together" - it's the first song I remember as a kid.

My top 3 albums to listen to during the Halloween season is Black Sabbath's self-titled debut, Misfits' Walk Among Us and Cannibal Corpse's Kill.
Misfits and Sabs are bound to get mentioned.
@@seekah1I agree! Both are staples for Halloween! They do awesome on that
Brilliant show guys loved it ❤
Phil Collins heavy gated drums on Frida's album and he produced it I think.
You realize Poison covered Kix?
Yes side 1 is stacked, but I love side 2! Fairies Wear Boots is lyrically goofy but musically amazing! The long intro is one of my favorite Sabbath moments
An old cast member on Sea of Tranquility was mentioned in this episode, Spaghetti Lee. Does anyone know whatever happened to that guy? I don’t think he even leaves comments anymore.
You're mistaken. I just saw comments from him within the last week.
OK, thanks for the info. I thought he was a good addition to the show. Hope everything‘s OK with him.
Show ideas: best 2nd albums, bands you used to hate/now love & vice versa.
Feel it Again by Honeymoon Suite is a tremendous song!! 🤘
I crank that one up whenever it comes on! They had a few others as well, but their full albums are littered with forgettable fluff.
"New Girl Now" is a fantastic Honeymoon Suite song, as is "Bad Attitude".
Just went to see Honeymoon Suite last week and they were awesome...tight and sounded great!
Never got into Ambrosia, but one song I kind of dig by them is How Much I Feel. And Hall and Oates was not ever on my playlist, but the song She's Gone is one I can go for. I will also add Dirty Lowdown by Boz Skaggs and Lido for that matter.
Shout out "She's Gone"!
GREAT song!
Head like a hole- NIN
Too shy- Kajagoogoo
King of the underdogs- Newsted
Down and Out- Tantric
The Distance- Cake
🇮🇷- Flock of Seagulls
The Distance by Cake is indeed great. Do you know their version of I Will Survive? It’s one of my favorite covers that surpass the original.
@@beetlebum7760 I’ll definitely have to check that one out, never heard it!
Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins……Live to Tell - Madonna……Here Comes the Rain Again - Eurythmics. All took on another dimension with mind altering substances consumed in the 80s!
Chris: "I don't even know if they play that song anymore"
Oh they definitely do. I worked the Motley Crue tour last year and Poison played Unskinny Bop.
I think Ryan should have worn a polo shirt with a sweater tied around the shoulders. That would be some real preppy yacht rock.
Kiss - Black Diamond
Incubus - New Skin
Korn - Ball Tongue
Whitesnake - Children of the Night
Dream Theater - Pull Me under
Changes- Yes
My Michelle- Guns N Roses
Games Without Frontiers- Peter Gabriel
Cover Me- Bruce Springsteen
Kryptonite- 3 Doors Down
Misunderstanding- Genesis
"I Can Dream About You" by Dan Hartman - can't explain why I like it, ...
but I do. 🤷♂
He also sings Free Ride from Edgar Winter
Turn Up The Radio- Autograph
My Heart Will Go On- Celine Dion
Margaritaville- Jimmy Buffett (R.I.P.)
Not a fan of the Load/Reload era, but my pick is Hero Of The Day. They put work into that one.
I agree Outlaw Torn is the best Load and Reload song. I didnt even know until many years later that the song got cut down by a minute and there's a even longer studio version thats on The Memory Remains single.
Hero of the Day, The Outlaw Torn, The Memory Remains all great songs for me. And I'll throw in King Nothing - that is a beast of a song!
Until it sleeps is a great song from that era
Just listened to that Metallica Outlaw Torn, great choice, thanks turn up the radio was perfect for this
Really good topic, ladies and gentlemen!
Pet Shop Boys: What Have I Done To Deserve This
Blondie: Rapture
Cher: Gypsies, Tramps, and Theives
Tom Petty: Runnin' Down A Dream
Tone Loc: Funky Cold Medina(only rap song I like)
At least 20 more I won't list
SImple Minds "Don't You Forget About Me"; Don Johnson "Heartbeat"; and of course Robert Tepper "No Easy Way Out", that's a classic! Man, just in the 80s movie soundtracks there are so many of these! Thanks 🍺🤘
absolutely spot on. And I love those too
Great show folks!
I second that Ryan on Mike and the mechanics song Silent Running that is an unreal song. Also one of their newer songs from the album Let Me Fly called Don’t Know What Came Over Me, great song.
Totally agree with Pete...can NOT whatsoever get into the Clash beyond 2-3 songs and all my good friends don't understand my thinking!
Poison was one of my choices too, but I would have chosen the song something to believe in. Nick give this song a shot, if you haven't heard it yet. I think you'll dig it and dig the lyrics too. Very unpoisony
Oh What A Night - Franki Valli and the Four Seasons
Dream Weaver - Gary Wright
Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper
Honorable mention:
One Thing Leads To Another - The Fixx
Something to Believe In - Poison
It’s A Beautiful World - Devo
Escape(The Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes
Summer Breeze - Seals and Crofts
My Sharona - The Knack
Uncle John’s Band - The Grateful Dead
At This Moment - Billy Vera and the Beaters
Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
The other song from that Michael Bolton album was 'She Did The Same Thing.
Great show and content
I agree with Count Ralfus' choices, although I do plan to try some more Ram Jam as I'm sure there must be other stuff similar to Black Betty, so ought to be good listening. A while back, I would have also said BOC "Don't Fear The Reaper" - because it was all I knew, but have bought a couple of albums so finding more I like by them now.
Off the top of my head, my picks:
(1) Living Colour - "Love Rears Its Ugly Head" - I bought the album "Time's Up" but can't say I love anything else on it.
(2) Faith No More - "We Care A Lot" - I bought the album "Introduce Yourself" but.... ditto
(3) The Knack - "My Sharona" - one of my favourite power-pop tracks, but I never delved any deeper...
HM: Crash Test Dummies "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" - liked the track, but not sure I could listen to a whole album?
Beck: Ramona
Kickstart My Heart: Motley Crew
Sara Mclauclin Possesion
Old time rock n roll - Bob Seger
Round and Round - Ratt
Turn up the Radio - Autograph
Nothin But a Good Time - poison
High Enough- Damn Yankees
Everything except for Ratt cuz they’re smart enough to get Milton Berle in their video and in drag no less! Sincerely, DJP And cunt; Postmortem and Kilslug Sony; Earache 🇬🇧 Columbia and TAANG!! Records @ ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Boston Massachusetts Amerikkka naturally. Cheers 🥂
Nick, on the off chance of you reading this, I would recomment you listen to 'death in fire' by amon amarth.
By what i feel like your taste is, you could dig it.
Great video guys.
I will!
Really great episode disagree with some but everyone has pallets of taste and it's just great to hear peoples opinion without it leading into an argument awesome
Bands I don’t care about, but like/love one song by:
Social Distortion-I Was Wrong
Fatboy Slim-Praise You
Climax Blues Band-I Love You
Big Audio Dynamite-Rush
Soho-Hippychick
Pat Benatar-We Belong
Scandal-Goodbye To You
Lumineers-Cleopatra
3. I Melt with You - Modern English 2. Sheena is a punk rocker. Ramones 3. Sweet Jane - Lou Reed
Actually Sweet Jane is the Velvet Underground by, yeah, written and sung by Lou.
Couldn't even tell ya another Modern English song.
I feel kind of the same about the Foo Fighters. I like a couple of their songs but was unimpressed when I bought an album. Didn't go back for more.
UFO never been a fan but Couldn’t Get It Right is my go to track
Def Leppard Animal. Hair Metal sellout but love any version of this song
ELP could never get into their looooong drawn out songs but when I hear these words, “Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends”, I’m all ears
My three choices for songs I love where I really don't care about anything else they did would be
1976 - STARLAND VOCAL BAND Afternoon Delight
1999 - NEW RADICALS You Get What You Give
1997 - MELISSA BROOKS Bitch
Honorable mentions
1969 - THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN Something In The Air
1975 - SAILOR Glass of Champagne
1992 - 4 NON-BLONDES What's Up?
1982 - PETER SCHILLING Major Tom
2000 - WHEATUS Teenage Dirtbag
Great show, folks! My picks: Piano man-Billy Joel. Come on Eileen-Dexys midnight runners. 99 Luft ballons Nena.
It was a hit just by chance again in ‘74 because some DJ in NYC played it and Bobby Borris Picket was driving a taxi at the time I heard him interviewrdy
I’ll rattle off a few:
Halsey: Finally// Beautiful Stranger
Olivia Rodrigo; Driver’s License
Shinedown: Lost In The Crowd
Lynx: Visions
Periphery: Lune
Love it! Its so funny watching other members squirm when one of them suggests a band they hate and the one song they really like! 🤣
Shows how subjective music can be.
wasn’t the drummer for Primus (or guitarist?) in that metal band Possessed?
Yes, Larry Lalonde the guitarist.
I like a lot of Grateful Dead music and I'm one of the few Dead Heads that like the Built to Last album, and the song A Touch of Grey.
First of all, you NEVER apologize for what YOU like to listen to. Ryan said it best: "I like it, and I don't give a flippedy..."
1. Chambers Brothers - "Time Has Come Today" (1967)
2. Crazy Elephant - "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'" (1972)
3. Gary Glitter - "Rock and Roll, Parts 1 & 2 (1973)
Honorable Mentions:
Commodores - "Brickhouse" (1977)
Norman Greenbaum - "Spirit in the Sky" (1970)
Zager & Evans - "In the Year 2525" (1969)
Waler Egan - "Magnet and Steel" (1978)
Henry Gross - "Shannon" (1976)
I obviously grew up on AM radio. Many had sappy lyrics, but you can understand them. Some songs had a meaning or they were just fun to listen to.
Addicted To Love - Robert Palmer
All Out of Love - Air Supply
Baby blue - Badfinger
Lwet your love flow - The Bellamy brothers
We're gonna rock around the clock - Bill Haley
All right - Christopher cross
Killer Klowns - The Dickies (sound track)
Hocus Pocus - Focus
Radar Love - GOlden Earring
My Sharona - The Knack
Easy Lover - Philip Bailey + Collins
Bird of Paradise - Snowy White (probably my all time fav song).
Also I think Autograph gets not enough love here here! Sign in Please has some great songs and that's the stuff is a great album too. Songs like ''Built for Speed, hammerhead, send her to me. If you are into glam/hair there is some enjoyment to be found imo.
I think the monster mash resurged with the Dr demento show being syndicated
Good morning and thanks for the wake up laughs. Gotta go to work soon so I'll finish the show later.
So GREAT to be back with my "Friends" with HVS!!!!! But, Pete "London Calling" is one of the BEST albums of alltime!!!!
My number 1 pick for this topic is Surrender by Cheap Trick. I've heard a couple other Cheap Trick tracks and enjoy them but haven't had a desire to check out and of their other music. Surrender, on the other hand, might be my all time favorite song.
If you like Surrender you'll probably like 100 other songs from them
Good evening guys and gals 🤘
I was BORN in 1962!! Monster Marsh? AWESOME!!!!
I'm with Steves pick on Brandy by Looking Glass...my others would be: "Dancing In The Moonlight" - King Harvest
"Silvia's Mother" - Dr. Hook
"Time To Pretend" - MGMT
"Sweetness"- Jimmy Eat World
Great topic people.
Lee Michaels -“Do You Know What I mean”
Climax Blues Band -“Couldn’t Get It Right”
Sniff ‘n’ the Tears -“Driver’s Seat”
This was hilarious.I loved it.
And I'm a big REM fan !
Was going to watch this, but 15 minutes into the video it was clear the title was misleading. Mostly this seemed to be I couldn't work within the category and was too lazy to put in the effort.
That's only one guy. Believe me I hate that too
There's a lot more artists that I don't particularly love that have a few songs that I like. But only one song? I gotta think about that....
Here's my picks:
I don't really care about Dave Matthews Band, but Dave Matthews has a solo song called "Gravedigger" that is really cool.
Don Henley - The Boys of Summer. Otherwise I hate him
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power of Love
Poco - Rose of Cimarron
Don't really care much about Asia at all, but Heat of the Moment is one of my favourite songs ever.
Boyz II Men - End Of The Road (I think this song actually has Toto connections to it)
Paramore - Ain't It Fun (I heard Dennis DeYoung, formerly of Styx, likes this catchy and fun number, too)
Sara Bareilles - Love Song (catchy and fun, but I don't consider myself a fan of hers)
Martika - Toy Soldiers
Expose - 3 songs - Point Of No Return, Let Me Be The One and Seasons Change (just those three)
DeBarge - Time Will Reveal
Ray Parker Jr. / Raydio - You Can't Change That
Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
Janet Jackson - 2 songs - When I Think Of You (solo) and Diamonds (Herb Alpert feat. Janet Jackson)
Brothers Johnson - Stomp!
Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You
Michael Morales - Who Do You Give Your Love To?
Gwen Stefani - Cool
Patrice Rushen - Forget Me Nots
Irene Cara - Fame (WAY better than her other big chart topping hit Flashdance (What A Feeling))
Killswitch Engage - My Curse (single and music video version, NOT the album version)
Early Whitesnake is criminally underrated. Nighthawk (Vampire Blues) might be one of my all time favorite songs. That entire "Trouble" album fucking rips!
Depeche Mode : Personal Jesus
Duran Duran : Hungry Like The Wolf
The Fixx: One Thing Leads To Another
Gary Numan: Cars
Lene Lovich : Lucky Number
And the undisputed championship belt goes too………..
🎊 Hoobastank: The Reason 🎊
intersting . . I'm a big Lene fan but this seesm to be her one hit. Certainly Gary Numan. He has other songs? I wouldn't know. DM a good one.
However here are my three favorite songs from bands that I either didn’t care for or never got into the rest of their discography - no specific order:
1. 1983 - Men Without Hats - Safety Dance….
Madonna-Live To Tell
Bruce Springsteen-I'm On Fire
John Lennon-Watching The Wheels
All of Too Fast For Love is great. Not just Live Wire. Nothing else sounds like that record-why it's so good.
Totally with you on The Clash, Pete.
