- Join Bryan from the Hair Band Basement and I as we talk about hair metal albums that were highly anticipated, but, for one reason or another, were major letdowns. Some of the bands included are Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Van Halen and more! Come along for the ride!
I personally think dog eat dog, warrants third album was their best.
Completely agree.
Not even close.
Ultraphobic kicks DED ass.
Even Jani said it was his nest work...years after he was out of warrant , so he wasn't I\st blowing smoke trying too boost album sales.
I remember Use Your Illusion I & II both getting five star reviews in Metal Hammer. Baffling, but proof that the hype was working. Both albums are selfindulgent, undisciplined, no quality control, scraping the barrel exercises of unhinged egomania. And yet it paid off commercially. The GnR brand was built on sleazy hard rock so solid and genuine that the image was still strong enough to carry those two turds from 1991 to the top of the charts for years hence. They used absolutely EVERYTHING they had, mimicking The Beatles´ wildly overrated White Album from 23 years prior when the Fab Four scrapped quality control in favour of selling more albums, quantity over quality, GnR style from 23 years later.
Now back to the future: Aerosmith copied the Guns´n Roses Use Your Illusion formula of releasing ballads with expensive videos for rotation on MTV, while still pretending to be a rock band. It carried them for the rest of the decade, until the oublic grew tired of the routine. Then they became a nostalgia act, just like Guns´n Roses have been over the last decade.
Damn, this is a great comment, and you're absolutely spot on. Hey, thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
guru…thats awesome u addressed my question. that one effort by u, shows why your channel will always have a devoted viewership. u actually care what your viewers care about. thank u for what you gave our country, and thank u for your content. you have a viewer for life.
perhaps if bob rock didn't muddy the production of subhuman, you may enjoy face against my soul, or iron will. the guitar work on the record is phenomenal.
surprised these didn't make the list:
vicious circle - la guns
hollyweird - poison
revolution - slaughter
marching to mars - sammy hagar (first album after he got the boot from vh)
slash's snakepit
def leppard - songs from the sparkle lounge
europe - start from the dark
Hey, Patrick, thank you for the kind words and support man. Seriously. I actually took "Hollyweird" off at the last minute, but, wow, what a shitshow that was... at least production wise. I really haven't gotten into anything from Def Leppard since "Euphoria," so I really haven't listened to the "Sparkle Lounge" album. Anyway, thanks again man, I appreciate you.
I like "Revolution" by Slaughter. It's definitely different from the rest of their catalogue. It grows on you after a couple of listens.
@@1Vettefan funny that i listed revolution and marching to mars. coincidently, both were released on the same day in 1997.
I would listen to Def Lep's Adrenalize any day of the week over their album Mirror Ball
Me, too.
slang is my fav if their albums.
YES! Adrenalize rules!
New Tattoo from Crue is a cool album. They sound relaxed and existing "in the moment". They sound like the enjoyed the experience of writing songs and not worried about writing a "hit song."
Punched in the teeth by love the the best on new tattoo, drag strip is bad hell on high heels is cool
Yeah, I really like New Tattoo...Motley needs to avoid trends and do what got them here.
Absolutely agreed on the Sweet F.A. second album. I didn't think it was awful, just flat and boring. Disagree with White Lion's Big Game album. I thought it was a solid album - particularly the songs Living On The Edge and If My Mind Is Evil.
Agreed on Sweet F.A. Big Game isn't necessarily horrible, but it was definitely a let down for me after "Pride."
@HairMetalGuru Motley Crue's Nona was a song that Nikki Sixx wrote about his grandma who had recently passed away. She basically raised him.
Hey, thanks for filling me in.
It's still bollocks though.
Congrats on the big 2k @hairmetalguru, onward to 10k, you deserve the success
Dude, hitting 10,000 would be a dream... I don't know that I see that happening, but, man, I appreciate you believing it. Seriously, thank you for supporting what I do, I mean that.
Sweet F.A. apparently parted ways with Jim Quick for the second album…
Babylon AD - Nothing Sacred. That album sounded NOTHING like the debut. It’s truly like two different bands.
I totally agree. I saw them on the 1st cd tour in san Diego twice. They kicked ass. Slave your body is the baddest song on the 2nd cd. Their new song wrecking machine kick ass. Their last cd was weak. The new cd is ok for the 1st listen but wrecking machine is killer.
Both were good, but I'm sure Babylon AD was under pressure from the label on that second album, but I still thought it was good.
@@ryant3600I think they were under pressure to go more glam. They went from GNR to Poison. The debut is spectacular. NS is meh.
Definitely a valid point here. I actually just listened to Nothing Sacred a couple days ago. I do like it, but, yeah, completely different than the debut. They were trying for a hit it seems. Thanks for watching, man.
Ill never forget 89 and the day i bought my fav rock album ever Lillian Axe love and War
I fuckin' worship that album.
@@HairMetalGuru419 named my first born son TAYLOR after RON of course!
I love that 3rd album by Bulletboys called "Za-za". Their first 2 albums were really good too. They consciously avoided putting out any ballads on their first 2 albums since all the other bands were doing that. Then on Za-za they wrote a couple which I thought were really good as well as the faster tracks.
the ballad “mine” from za za was great. it was in the 90’s teen rollerblading movie “airborne”.
Thanks, man, I need to revisit the Bulletboys albums after the debut.
Yes another video I love this channel
Hey, man, thank you so much. Seriously, I appreciate it.
Btw Dave Snake Sabo recently released a statement regarding the state of Skid Row and whether Sebastian Bach would be invited back in the band. Dave’s basically copy and paste his previous statement. He said no, reason being Scotti, Rachel and myself are very happy now. They are on the look out for brand new singer. They did address Lizzy Hales contribution to their latest shows.
Imo ridiculous to trot out another yet another singer.
Yep, the Bach reunion is a no-go. Time to put that baby to bed.
of the 5 songs ive heard of the ill-fated ozone monday album, id say maybe its time to put those songs out and do ozone monday instead of another singer.
I was a big fan of Def Leppard at the time and remember the upcoming Adrenalize release. I bought every CD single that was released for that album; as well as the album itself. The album was rather meh and feels like Hysteria 2.0. There were some good tracks. Lets get rocked was catchy in a Pour Some Sugar on Me way. White Lightning was Gods of War 2.0 and a good tribute song. Tear it Down was a great closing track. With that said, most of the b-sides on their singles were much better; and most ended up on Retroactive.
Yeah, I like the Retroactive album. And Tear it Down is my favorite Adrenalize song, but, agreed, Hysteria 2.0. Thanks for watchin', man.
Agree with most things here, love the channel. But "Adrenalize" is the answer to Hysteria. Yes, it's a bit corny in spots. But it's one catchy pop metal Lep song after another. I don't skip anything, even to this day. I remember when it came out and it was HUGE. Love it! I'm sure Ryan would agree haha
Surprised Adrenalize and Heartbreak Station were mentioned here. I can think of way worse. HS is actually Tom Keifers favourite Cinderella album
Yeah, HS is great. Adrenalize is appalling.
@@benedictdonald4338 Appalling? I respectfully disagree
from a singer/songwriter perspective, heartbreak station is just like his two solo albums. it makes sense. you never see him play or talk about still climbing, which to me, was the shining star in the cinderella catalog.
@ Really? Interesting
I blame Eddie for the failure of the Van Halen III album
I tend to agree.
Todd In The Shadows video on it is well worth watching
2K is quite the milestone. Congratulations Brother
What do u guys think of Steel Panther?
I love ‘em!
Fuckin' love them. I need to cover them here sometime.
@@HairMetalGuru419 Yeah you do. Stop slackin’ and get on that!
There is some good stuff on VHIII. "Year to the Day" is amazing. "From Afar" is great. I have a recording on VHS of VH playing live in Australia with Gary on vocals. I think it aired on VH1. You have to give Gary credit. He is the one that got VH playing live the old deep Roth tracks that they never hardly played, such as "Hear About it Later" and "Romeo Delight". Gary is a big fan of the Roth era of VH. During this Australian live show they played "Mean Street" and "Unchained" along with many of the new tunes. The live version of "Year to the Day" will melt your face off with Eddie's amazing blues solo. The only Sammy song they did was "Why Can't this Be Love" and during that they took turns singing the verses with even Eddie singing one verse.
i liked from afar…amazing guitar work that demanded to be heard. fire in the hole should have been the first single…
@@patrickreeves4650 Yeah, I forgot to mention Fire in The Hole was a really good tune also.
Has anyone gone on and seen the couple of videos out there that people who have had auditions with skid row have done? i've found two, and both didn't get it. both sounded wrong for the band too, but still they give quite a bit of insight into what skid row is doing in the audition process, and looking for.
The Illusions project didn't need to be a double album. If they had just cut the fat and put all the best material from both albums into one, they would have had a masterpiece. As it is, for me at least, Illusions 1&2 are just bloated, uneven, and pretentious. Dont get me wrong - theres some great stuff on both. But theres also just sooo much filler too. Compared to the magic on Appetite it's like listening to a different band entirely.
As wierd as it sounds...
The absence of Steven " Popcorn" Adler. He was a nontraditional, swingin, unschooled semi sloppy drummer, which was a magic ingredient. I have spent some time thinkin about this, Sorum is a good pro drummer. And that is part of the problem.
@@saltpeter7429 That's a good point. Compared to the debut, the production on those albums was waaayyy too polished. It's like they were trying to be Queen or something!
@@ciaranmeeks9431 lol, yeah. I hear what yout saying, the charm and magic was in their nasty street urchin nature.
Lighnin in a bottle.
I completely agree brother
Love the Content, Hair Metal Guru. Would love to see a deep dive in some of the lesser known hair metal bands with album rankings and review newer hair metal releases from the past 10 years.
I hate to disagree with you guys but: Love Bites, Love Hurts, & Love’s a Bitch are a trifecta of heartbreak 💔 songs.
I fuckin' love "Love Hurts," and I have no problem with people disagreeing... that's half the fun of doing this shit. Thanks for watching, my man.
A) I'm in a cover band and we do "mama told me not to come" & i hate the song 😆😆
B) the Bach/Skid thing almost the same reason Hanoi Rocks can't get it back together. Andy is hard to deal with. We'd all LOVE it, but for them... it ain't worth the headache.
Haha, do you struggle not to laugh every time you have say, "Mama told me not to come." Cause I fuckin' would. Completely agree on the Hanoi/Skid Row comparison. Money isn't worth your piece of mind. Thanks a lot for watching, Brother.
Congrats on the 2K bro!! Just coz you're a mega star now doesn't make you right about Love Bites yeah!!!!
I'm a mega star? Wait a minute... yeah, I AM A MEGASTAR. And Love Bites sucks. ;-) Thanks, Brother, I appreciate it, man.
@@HairMetalGuru419 🤣
Even though a lot of these albums kinda suck, i stil give praise to them for putting music out to the masses. I write music and nobody will here it. I had a band in the late 90s and life happened. We went knowhere. As 99% bands do end up. That aside, i give "HUGE PROPS" for bands doing what they do, even if its kinda sucky. Ive never had that opportunity to fail like that.
Hey, man, that's a completely valid point, and I totally agree. Most of us would love to be in the situation where we could put out an album... even if some consider it a disappointment. Hey, thanks for the perspective... and for watching.
Actually Big Game was one of my favorite albums, But as for Big Game they were seriously pressured by the label to get it written and get it out fast. Mike said he always regretted giving into the pressure to do that. But most songs I thought were good. Cry for Freedom is a great song, and White Lion was always very political in their writing. Living on the Edge, Don't say its over, If my mind was evil.. Mane Attraction was the album that they wanted to make but they got zero support from the label by then. Mane Attraction was musically the best they ever did. Vito left because of the business side of it. He hated it. Adrenalize was good but lets be real I don't think DL ever could have followed up Pyro and Hysteria with something even better. But it was good. However, my favorite DL post Hysteria was Retro Active. 5150 is my favorite VH album. I saw the VH 3 tour and it was great. Gary was amazing live. I think the problem w/ 3 was Eddie was going through a lot of problems at that time. And VH didn't really know what they wanted to be at that time. As for Crue you gotta remember everytime Crue put out an album the scene had changed from the previous album. They came out kinda "shock rock" then by the time they were working on Theater the whole glam thing was really becoming big and Nikki the main song writer was really into his heroin at the time, so song writing wasn't the best, but I really love Micks guitar playing on the entire Theater album. Girls I thought was a good sleazy album which by then bands like the LA Guns/GNR, Faster Pussycat etc was really lighting up the Strip, it just always seemed Nikki was good at trying to be a little head of the curve on what was about to become big out of Hollywood.
Hey, thanks for sharing all these thoughts. Agreed on Mane Attraction, and you probably have a valid opinion on Eddie and the Van Halen III album. Hey, thanks a lot for watching, I really appreciate it.
One album off the top of my head that I found disappointing was Faster Pussycat's Whipped.
Man, I tend to agree. Loved the first single, "Nonstop to Nowhere," but after that there wasn't a lot of quality outside of a couple songs.
nonstop to nowhere, big dictionary, jack the bastard and body thief were great songs!
Another good one. I just really find these videos enjoying to hear you talk with these friends about the music you love, and the analysis and back and forth.
If you have a chance, check out the latest ASKA song Soul Stealer. Given your enjoyment from raspy voiced great singers, think you'd dig this.
Hey, Craig, thanks a lot for the kind words... seriously, I really appreciate it. I will definitely check that tune out, thanks for the recommendation, man.
Subhuman Race was a big let down. I think touring with Pantera rubbed off on them. Unfortunately it was a bad move. I do love Breakin’ Down But that’s the only track that I love. That’s my pick. Keep up the great vids Anthony.
not for me. Great album
Sure, Pantera "rubbed off" on them, but when their mama told them not to come, they were defiant and didn't listen.
Slave to the grind was fire 🔥, but subhuman race is just a horrible album...forced heavy sludgy bad songs
@@chipbrosky2263 Holy shit, I almost spit out my coffee reading this.
I saw the Skid Row/Pantera tour, and I remember thinking, "Why the fuck would you tour with a band like this?" Nothing against Pantera, but I don't think the average Skid Row fan wanted them touring with a thrash band... me included. Breakin' Down is my favorite on that album as well. Hey, man, thank you so much for the support, I really do appreciate it.
13:08 Maybe Dave had a part in the arrangements as far as connecting riffs to choruses etc, but it was very clear when he went solo that the Van Halen brothers were much better at coming up with the building blocks of songs than Dave's ultra-mega-super duper talented solo band.
Very valid point, my man. Hey, thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
Fantastic video, really great stuff. I read somewhere that the final straw for Seb Bach was when he told the press that Skid Row we’re gonna open for KISS on the reunion tour and the rest of the band refused? The band got pissed cause they thought they were too big to be an opening band . After Subhuman Race bombed I’d bet they wish they did agree to open for KISS 😂
Baz was pissed because he is a huge Kiss fan.
Yeah, I've heard that KISS story--not sure why anyone would ever turn down a KISS tour, but, on the flip side, I understand the band being hesitant to get back with Bas--he can be a lot to handle.
skids headlined the subhuman album for 6 months, then spent the summer opening sheds for the van halen balance tour, then the winter of 1995/1996 in south america playing the big festivals opening for iron maiden.
they were rubbed raw by bas all the way back to the first record...and his antics during the slave tour made touring a real hassle for them. he had to tour in his own bus so they wouldn't kill him, and they disliked him as a human being.
they were never in a position as a band to open for kiss...and when bach says that rachel's excuse was they were too big to open for kiss, well, rachel and snake have both denied that. rachel was doing a side project at the time, and the band was already working on new material for a new record, which bas told them "the songs suck". it was stand-offish at that point, so it really was never going to happen anyway.
Sebastian needs to let it all go because the reunion is never going to happen. I’m a huge skid row and hate that Sebastian just can’t realize he is the problem. The reunion would’ve happened years ago if he could just stop talking
Completely agree.
@@HairMetalGuru419 i love bas…just saw him on tues in connecticut. paid for the vip as well.
he is the issue, and i don’t blame skid row at all. bas should be happy for the past, but focus on himself, and repairing his relationship with them. that bond would be far more important than any reunion.
When night songs came out, I was a dirtbag shit working at McDonald's. There was this hot chic that worked there about 2 years older than me. I lasted only 11 months there. It would've been much shorter if she wasn't there. Damn she was hot. Anyway, Cinderella came out then. I love the album, but I think of that chic and McDLT's. "Back home again" was a great heavy song.
Haha, I love this comment. The things we do for hot chicks... and I fuckin' love Night Songs.
I can agree with about most of your opinions but I love Use your Illusion!! Love the different songs and variety!! And it brings back tons of memories!!!
I genuinely LOVE "Subhuman Race". If you listen to the earlier mixes of those songs from the Best Of, they're more of a "Slave..." sound, but the later remix was looser, harsher. The band have said they think Bob Rock used "Subhuman Race" as an experiment before doing ",St Anger" with Metallica.
Man, St. Anger is a bigger shitshow than Subhuman Race! I'd never heard that before, so thanks for the info... and thanks for watching, man, I appreciate it.
@@HairMetalGuru419 all the way from England. Great show, thanks!
Bob rock screwed up the skid row subhuman race album. I’ve heard Rachel say a few times that he didn’t think Bob rock even wanted to be there. It sucks Sebastian’s ego is so huge. I get why they band don’t want him
Agreed.
@@HairMetalGuru419 it shoes how the band feels that when they released the greatest hits, demo’s and live versions were all the tracks released from it.
i personally adore subhuman race…and maybe its my life experience with the record. but if you have not heard it in a long time, maybe give it another try?
Theater of Pain was my first major disappointment, when I went to the record store to buy the album, after Shout, and looked at the way they were dressed and saw Smoking in the Boys Room, and I walked out without buying it.
Good point about Girls, like Gary, I think of it as pretty good because of those first two songs, but you're right about the rest.
I definitely like the GirlsX3 album more than TOP.
I actually like Adrenaline, EXCEPT for Let's Get Rocked and Make Love Like a Man (which are two of the worst Def Leppard songs ever recorded). But Stand Up (Kick Love), I wanna touch you, and some of the other songs were very good. Granted, it was not Hysteria but, it was a decent album. I actually LOVE "Have you ever", to me it's their best ballad.
I know I loved "Have You Ever..." when it came out... I don't know that it's aged that well. And I did like Adrenalize when it came out, but I rarely revisit it these days..Thanks for watching.
@@HairMetalGuru419 I just learned parts of “Have You Ever” this week on guitar. It is fun to play, even at my novice level.
Mama Told Me Not To Come by Sweet F.A. is a cover of the Three Dog Night song of the same name, if it hasn't been mentioned here.
Great vid but “Dead Man’s Road” rocks imo! 🤘🏼
That song is awesome
Shit, I just went and listened to it again, and it's definitely better than I implied. I don't know that I love it, but it's not shit. Thanks for watching, Heather.
100% disagree with Motle Crues girls girls girls, love dancing on glass, all in the name of, sumthing for nothing, wild side, title track. Great crue album
I was probably a little harder on this album than I should've been. I think I place Girls in 3rd place after Too Fast for Love and Shout if I'm ranking the Vince Neil Motley albums. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
@@HairMetalGuru419 thanks I'm a fan of the show, and a new subscriber
I actually dig New Tattoo. If I Die Tomorrow from Red, White & Crue and songs from Saints of L.A. like S.O.L.A., Down at the Whisky, Just Another Psycho and White Trash Circus. All Bad Things Must Die rocks!
Tried to get into SOLA, but just couldn't. New Tattoo isn't bad, though. Thanks for watchin', my man.
Hi Guru, great video , recently suscribed. Agree with both your opions, but for Def Leppard's Adrenalize, i would've swapped it with SLANG, now that was a disappointing piece of trash. Keep em videos coming, hopefully a "album with killer and no filler" some day? Regards Tony
most people hate slang, but i loved it for moving away from the stupidity of adrenalize. it sounded fresh, grown up, and well written. songs like work it out, gift of flesh, and blood runs cold are fantastic. i dont think anyone was waiting to see what def leppard was going to do, and have moved on. but for those of us ready for it, it was awesome.
All killer and no filler album show is a good idea…
@@patrickreeves4650 yes i agree, Adrenalize was cheesy, corny but even missing the Steve Clarke influence , you can still tell its Def Leppard. Slang on the other hand, its harder to tell, they even removed the iconic logo from the album's cover, it was a commercial failure and fans didnt like it. They then had to revert to a more original sound on their follow up, EUPHORIA, including the return of the iconic logo on the album cover.
Hey, Tony, thanks a lot for supporting the channel, man, I really do appreciate it. Yeah, it would've been easy to put in "Slang," because I am NOT a fan. I tried to stick to things that were put out during the hair metal era, but I agree with you completely. As far as the "all killer no filler" episode... I put it on the list man... it'll happen at some point. Thanks, Brother.
Happy Friday 🎉
Back atcha, my Brother!
What about Bitter Pill off of greatest hits? Pretty solid song.
I called the death of GNR the day I heard that Izzy left. Not because I don't love Slash and Duff, and liked somewhat liked Axl... loved on AFD... but yeah, there was no one two write the songs once Izzy left. At least not an album's worth. Have you listened to Izzy's solo stuff. Really really good. Not hair metal. Nothing will blow you away. But it's really solid.... especially 117° ! Thanks for the reviews... er... list... countdown? Whatever this was, it was fun... I agreed with almost all of it. Thing is... I have one thought about stuff now at 49... but my 13 to 18 year old self has a bit of a different opinion. For example, got into Motley with GGG... then went back to the rest of the catalog. So love Too Fast and Shout... not so much Theatre. I agree that GGG isn't too great when I listen to it now... but my 14 year old self still loves it! ;p Oh... and LOVE Heartbreak Station! :). It's not LCW, but still love it. But Still Climbing is better.
UYI didmt let us down...2 classics. I love Subhuman Race as well....
I agree with UYI, but so many people HATED them purely because they weren't "Appetite For Destruction II".
I know a lot of people love those albums. They just left me hanging a little bit.
To me David Lee Roth's Skyscraper was a disappointment after the great Eat 'Em and Smile.
I like the single, "Just Like Paradise," but that's about all I remember liking on that album. Haven't listened to it in forever.
a little ain’t enough and your filthy little mouth were both pretty bad too.
A lot of people love Def Leppard's Hysteria, but honestly for me that album was a big let down. Pyromania was my introduction to the band and then I went back and got High n Dry and On Through the Night which I still love. Then there was like a 5 year pause due to all the issues with the band and there was a lot of excitement waiting for Hysteria to come out. I first heard "Women" on the radio and really liked that one so I bought the cassette expecting the rest of the album to be similar. The tracks I like include "Rocket", "Gods of War", "Women", and I can even tolerate "Animal" but I was really disappointed with the rest. To be fair, many of the other tracks such as "Pour Some Sugar on Me" sound better live with the raw guitars. I bought the VHS live video that came out around that time "Live-In the Round In Your Face" and those tracks were at least tolerable.
On a side note: does anyone remember having trouble with the clear plastic cassettes back in the day? Cassettes were usually manufactured with the solid white plastic casing but after awhile some companies started making the clear ones with the paper inserts that had the track listings. I had a lot of trouble with those. They would jam in my tape players. I started taking the screws out and removing the inserts and then putting them back together and then they would play better. I remember having Black n Blue's Nasty Nasty cassette that wasn't even very old and jammed up in my stereo until I did that remedy.
I love High N Dry and Pyromania. Loved Hysteria when it came out, but it has aged horribly. I don't remember having an issue with the cassettes...
@@HairMetalGuru419 Not sure why I was unfortunate to have so much trouble with those clear cassettes. I kept my tape players clean and rarely had issues with the white plastic tapes.
No love for "You're All I Need"? I love that guitar solo.
I really like "You're All I Need," to be honest.
I don’t think motley’s girls album is as bad as you guys think but when we all are these huge fans of those first two albums how can you seriously do any better than that. As far as the girls album goes I myself think that Wildside, girls, dancing on glass is cool. If you know what dancing on glass mean you should understand it. Your all I need could have changed the game on how all ballads go if mtv wouldn’t have banned it. All in the name of was their opening song on that tour and always have liked that one to except the opening line that Vince sings but the song is cool and fun. I know we all like what we like so I get it and I have to say my favorite motley albums are their first two. They freaking rule. So if I could make two amazing records in my life I would be in heaven. With all that said I also am a big fan of the Motley Corabi album in ‘94 and I enjoy saints of Los Angeles a lot. Would I like for the CRÜE to get back to there early sound hell yes but we all get older and change so I’m greatful for those first two albums so much because most bands back then was lucky to have gotten a record deal let alone record two fantastic albums. Love this channel and love to everybody ✌🏼
With an exception of a few songs from some of the grunge bands I thought then and still do think it was the most boring rock and roll of any decade. Come on guys Nirvana were the kings of the shoe gazers. I never bought into the lame and lazy way they would look, talk, act or played. Please someone explain to me how is it that Alice In Chains is a grudge band and released their debut album in August of 1990 and with a big hit man in the box and was all over the radio and mtv yet nirvana doesn’t breakout until late ‘91 and the are crowned as breaking the grunge thing. As a music fan that has never added up. Alice In Chains is the band that broke that different sound and look and feel. Nirvana is so overrated it’s sickening. I’m 52 years old and have never met anyone that has went and seen nirvana live back in the day. I know I’m ranting but damn it I’m passionate about the things I love lol✌🏼🙏🏼🤘🏽

Love Chinese Democracy! Underratred album in my opinion. Most of the songs are amazing.theres a couple that are ok but most of its great!
Spaghetti incident also great!
also love chinese democracy. there is something i love about every song. most people who hate it, were never ready to give it a chance either. i think there was so much hate for him going out in in the years beforehand, with the cornrows, and the revolving cast of players nobody understood. if you sat down and cleaned the house, or did chores with it on in the background a few times, you would start to realize that the album is incredibly well written, and full of all the things people liked about guns.
Great show.
Lynch Mob - Smoke This comes to mind, just terrible
Yeah, that was really bad. To be fair though George was pressured by the record company to label it a Lynch Mob album. They wouldn't release it otherwise. He should have insisted not to call it Lynch Mob so that it would have been shelved lol. Love George and respect that he wants to grow and try new things, but that album was really bad.
Don't think I've ever listened to it, and this glowing review means that I probably won't. ;-)
@@HairMetalGuru419 I bought it with an open mind. Metal Edge magazine even sponsored a contest on behalf of George where fans could submit their own ideas for the album cover and George would pick one. His only direction was "no skulls or snakes" since that had been done to death. I started working on a design but didn't finish it so I never submitted it. The album is basically a hip-hop rock type of record with George just contributing guitar samples. Looking back George jokes that it is his Lynch-Bizkit album and acknowledges it was a wrong move.
I love Theatre 🎭 Of Pain, I guess I’m in the minority lol
I love it as well..." Raise your hands to rock!!"
Granted I was about 8 years old when I first got it, but hell its been a few decades since and I still like it.
I love that cd. I was disappointed when i first heard it but grew to love it quick. Fight is my fav on it. Tonight we need a lover kicksass. Is destroys girls.
Hey, I love a lot of albums people hate! And that album went quadruple platinum, so what the fuck do I know? ;-)
I love it too. I rate it higher than Girls. Songs like "Louder than Hell", "Keep Your Eye on the Money", "City Boy Blues", "Tonight We Need a Lover", and "Save Our Souls" all amazing deep tracks. Mick's guitar tone sounds phenomenal. I believe this is the first album where Tommy got the big drum kit so the drums sound really grand too. "Save Our Souls" was even featured in a horror movie soundtrack "Demons". Love the 2 singles "Home Sweet Home" and "Smokin" also.
“That downtuned guitar shit…”
Motley was always tuned down to D from the beginning.
I'm not a guitar player, but I think you know what I mean. Even if the old stuff was tuned down to a D, it doesn't sound as low as stuff that I consider 'downtuned' like Sabbath or Alice in Chains. Maybe they played their shit on the A string vs the E. Anyway, thanks for the info.
You've clearly come here to do TWO things. Listen to Butt Rock, and chew on ballsacks
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting... helps the algorithm, Cupcake. ;-)
My comments keep disappearing 😂😂👍🤘🤘
Dudes? You don’t like ‘If My Mind Is Evil’ off Big Gane? Seriously ? And Heartbreak Station is my favourite Cinderella album
David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar were responsible for arranging the songs is what you were trying to get at Guru. Cheers.
You're all I need created some buzz cause the video was banned
Van Halen 3 is in my top 5 VH albums.
I loved a new sound from them .
Use your illusion 1& 2 are Great , minus Dont cry , Knockin on heavens door , My world , You aint the 1st & November Rain.
Warrant's D.E.D is my least favorite. It is over polished and has no real feel. Born again has a more raw , lose authentic feel than it does , & most people hate that album.
It's a three dog night cover geniuses
I just went to your channel to get some education, and guess what? There's nothing fucking there. Genius.
Theatre of Pain is a terrible album much worse than Girls,Girls, Girls, there is nothing on TOP that is passable even the 2 okay songs are terrible. Agree that Adrenalize is rubbish, only Stand up kick love into motion is any good the rest is just horrible early 90s dross
I actually like Girls... it's probably my 3rd favorite Vince album after the first two. Agreed, it's dramatically better than Theater. Hey, thanks for watching, man.
On use your Illusion 1 you are forgetting "Coma" and "Dead horse" are bangers, but yes I agree I was also let down by the albums.
Yeah, I probably missed a few--I haven't listened to it for a while, but, yeah, way too much filler.
for every good song on those two albums, here were three bad one’s.
Haha “Shit Soup”
My biggest disappointment was Native Tongue by Poison. Awful! Way worse than the Crue records you guys mentioned.
Uggh, I could've easily had that album in here. Total disappointment.
Does anyone find it odd that the Hair Metal Guru...has no hair??
I have NEVER heard this joke before! ;-)
I thought Better was a song that could have been on Appetite. The only song on Chinese Democracy that’s any good IMO
Generation Swine is the worse Hair metal album of all time. Cinderella was great at the start . I feel they are way overrated. Winger blows away Cinderella , and Poison. The Use Your Illusion albums have a ton of classsic GNR. Shame shame
Agreed about Generation Swine. Love Winter, but I also love Cinderella and Poison. The Illusion albums DO have some solid shit, but way too much filler. Thanks for watching, Brother.
i feel like everyone has a generation swine story. whether it was the trip to go buy it release night, going to see the tour, or hearing a song on the radio, we all remember where we were when we became disappointed with it!
Off the top of my head - Shy - Misspent Youth. Awful production kills it.
TNT - Intuition. A couple of decent songs but not a patch on Tell No Tales.
White Lion - Big Game. Just terrible.
Motley Crue - Theater of Pain. Just no.
Warrant - Ultraphobic. Dog Eat Dog was excellent. This wasn’t.
David Lee Roth - Skyscraper.
Man, I love Ultraphobic. haha.
OhhhhhhKAAAAY BUD
OhhhhhhKAAAAY Ed
Def Lep’s “Adrenalize” is appallingly bad. Just a complete embarrassment.
Its funny. I was a freshman in high school during adrenalize...and i loved it...but as time went on and i got older, i find it unlistenable. slang is my favorite def leppard record, as it had the best lyrics, the best songs for me, when i needed them the most. love that record thru and thru.
Since when was GNR ever hair metal. They were a hard rock band that exploded in the middle of the hair band era. That being said, Use Your Illusion 2 is a great album. 1 is bloated and full of filler.
Man i very strongly disagree i love Going home tonight and cry for freedom off Big Game.yes main attraction is better tho.
I do like those two songs, but there's just a lot of filler and super cliche shit on there, too.
