    Band that changed my life: Pink Floyd (music could be more)
    Band that surprised me: The Beatles (so young, so brief, so profilic and so bloody good) and Riverside (gateway to looking at bands beyond North America and western Europe)
    Guilty Pleasure: Tori Amos (few channel uncomfortable intimacy better) and A-Ha.

      @@nectarinedreams7208 thank you very much, I personally love Punk Music, yet it’s bands that progressed past the three chord shtick into what would later the “Post-Punk” movement. Wire was one of those bands that sounded radically different by the time the album “The Ideal Copy” was released.
      Their second album “Chairs Missing” and “154” was the band’s natural progression from edgy Punk to Avant/Psychedelic Pop-Punk.

    • @chuckazeee
      @chuckazeee Год назад +3

      Like any form of music genre, you can’t just single out the entire genre as schlock when there are so many great bands that are waiting for one’s ears and open mind to attend to.
      Wire is among so many of the band’s from the original British Punk scene outside of The Sex Pistols and The Clash that were far more innovative and interesting.
      The Adverts, Stranglers, The Jam, Buzzcocks, The Damned were all pretty much brilliant bands yet none could find a niche here in the U.S.

    • @StrappingOldLad
      @StrappingOldLad Год назад +1

      @@chuckazeee I also believe all genres have potential for good music, but I have yet to find a punk band I really enjoy. I like some punk adjacent bands like The Limit, Killing Joke and Death (70's band), but that is the closest I have gotten so far. Sex Pistols and The Damned are ok, but not something I put in my CD/record player. I'll keep looking.
      I'll definitely agree that Wire is an interesting band, but I don't think they are the band I'm looking for. They had an hypnotic quality I can appreciate, but only one of the 10-12 random songs I listened to yesterday (A Question of Degree) did something for me. I might give them another shot, now that I know what to expect.

    • @chuckazeee
      @chuckazeee Год назад +1

      @@StrappingOldLad it’s a mindset, truth be told as mentioned the Post-Punk scene was far more interesting, while on the American side the Alternative (Post-Punk) bands were just as brilliant.

    Guilty Pleasure - Duran Duran (Never really considered them a guilty pleasure, Duran Duran to me were way more than just a pretty boy pop band. Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, Roger Taylor and Andy Taylor were always real musicians that came out in the MTV era. Duran Duran's music was always more post punk, new wave with synth pop. Also Depeche Mode was great too.)

    Another great show gentlemen, and excellent topic. Everyone from the team brings much to the table, and it
    often amounts to a learning experience for me since Prog music isn't my forte. That said, it was good to see
    everyone step out of "character" a little bit and broaden their areas of coverage.
    I'd like to comment on a few of the responses and offer a few suggestions of my own.
    First, Ken's rant about KISS was hilarious. Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel!
    I understand they're an easy target for naysayers, and are one of those bands you get or you don't. I can
    appreciate both sides for and against. That said, Ken and Luis, you're both knowledgable and share terrific
    insights but be careful not to get caught up in confirmation bias and cloud your judgment. "Dynasty" is not
    a disco album, the next was a Power Pop experiment, and the musicianship rose up a notch in the non-make up
    years. Gripe about them all you want, but they've lasted till now with millions of records sold. Ask a band
    like GWAR how many albums they've sold in the last decade. Gimmicks carry you just so far.
    Steven: You were spot-on with Y&T as underrated! One of the best hard rock bands from the late '70s still in
    existence, though I think it's only Meniketti now. They should have become much bigger. I can still listen
    to records like "Down for the Count" and marvel at the guitar work and drumming. Awesome band.
    Eric: I respect your opinion about Punk music, and this may be presumptuous of me, but are you basing your
    opinion on those sort of "birth of Punk" bands from back in the day? The Ramones, Pistols, Clash, etc.
    carved out a stylistic niche in their time, but Punk's evolved over time and I'd like to call your attention
    to several bands that embody Punk, or maybe more fittingly, a metal-punk hybrid, that feature excellent
    songwriting and musicianship that I think might inspire you to take a closer look: Rise Against, Strung Out,
    Thursday, Propaghandi, and AFI (more Gothic, mainstream), great band for over two decades.
    I highly recommend you, and Pete for that matter, check them out and see if they don't change your mind.
    Chuck: I'd be interested to hear your thoughts about the aforementioned, and any others you'd suggest. I'm
    reeling these off at a moment's notice, and there are many more I'm missing.
    Guilty pleasures: Great concept, not to be taken literally right? How about Benny Mardones, apparent one-hit
    wonder of "Into the Night" fame back in 1980. That man could sing! Anything by The Knack, so much more than
    "My Sharona," and a very talented, musically tight band. Great stuff, keep up the good work!

I’ve seen Squeeze in concert about 10 or 12 times and Mr. Jackson, the Jackanape from Jackaloop Junction, (sadly) only once. Squeeze always put on a great, lively show and it’s quite fun watching the ladies dance.

Bonus points to The Chadster for mentioning The Fixx as well. Their debut album is a real corker, especially the deep tracks!

    One of the best episodes of In The Prog Seat ever. I absolutely loved this. It was so interesting listening to all the guys share stuff that we never get to hear about on the weekly podcast. I think we all received some personal insight into our favourite band of brothers through this little exercise, thanks Pete. Ken was hilarious and entertaining as ever, he's always worth the admission price. With regard to Luis's view on U2 - a lot of Irishmen (this one included) would fully concur. The only negative is the absence of Anthony. I'm sure he and Luis would have provided some entertaining banter about Jon Anderson and there would have been a high Jobson count..

    I love CCR & was introduced to their music thanks to quite a few movies in the 80s, one of them being Twilight Zone The Movie.
    I prefer Kiss Alive albums to their studio albums, as the songs have more punch.
    As for merchandise, aren’t all bands doing that now, from toys, alcohol, comics, puzzles etc? Kiss were basically ahead of the game.
    We got to remember a lot of the bands back then were either paid peanuts or wasn’t getting paid at all even when they wrote their own songs due to dodgy contracts. Kiss were using their brains.
