- Tristán White and Sharon Crawford continue their journey in Barnes, starting off at the London Wetland Centre (though the full version of this visit will appear in a separate video only for Patrons). They then talk about the Olympic Studios, where everyone from the Rolling Stones to David Bowie to Jimi Hendrix have recorded seminal albums, and where Martin Glover (aka Youth) once worked alongside Simon Posford, before the former poached the latter to work in his new studio, Butterfly Studios. They check out Ironmongers Mews, a road that doesn't appear on Google Maps, and then the Red Lion pub. After that, they visit important sites on Castelnau (via Ferry Road, where they check out the place where Queen came up with their name). It's then onto the Thames towpath (via the Harrods Furniture Repository), where they talk about everything rowing, from the Boat Race, to the Head of the River race, to Tristán's own father's involvement (Terry White) with rowing with Sons of the Thames among other clubs. They visit the Leg O'Mutton Reservoir, talk about the Harrodian School, which used to be the Harrodian Club, then check out The Terrace, then the oldest house in Barnes (Henry Fielding's) and the many pubs of Barnes Village.

The old Barnes Victorian 'nick' at 48'56" was my late fathers first posting when he joined the Met Police in March 1950. I took him back to see Barnes in a wheelchair around 3 years before he died (2015ish) and took his photo in front of it when it was already posh flats. He used to tell me loads of tales from his days in uniform at Barnes - VB (in V division).
The Bulls Head Jazz room used to be in what is now the 'Bolan Room' right behind the bar. It was relocated maybe 5-6 years ago. I've seen blues legend Jimmy Witherspoon there 50 years ago along with others such as Charlie Watts in a small jazz trio, also Zoot Money and many others. Humphrey Littleton was a regular along with George Melly. Sadly not as nice a pub as it used to be IMHO
Interesting video 😊😊😊
Prior to being the old Rangoon it was known for years as The Boileau Arms.
