  • Simple repair, just need a vise, hammer, adjustable wrench, tape measure and a little grease. Oh ya, and a T27 Torx wrench or driver. Part number 4140-791-7207 for the bushing. They also sell them aftermarket, Stens, etc.

Grease is your friend. Had a Troy Bilt trimmer in last week for carb issues. After fixing that. One thing I always do is grease the gear head before returning the finished product. 99.9% of the time, the owner doesn't know about that grease point. Good video Kenny!

Great video. I've never repaired one of them but now I know just how easy it is to do. Thank you.

Good job and tips as usual - now you can use the strimmer to knock out those weeds in the driveway !!!

VW used a brass timing gear on the crankshaft of the older engines that we removed with a hydraulic press and reinstalled by heating in hot peanut oil. May be more trouble than it's worth for your application but they would literally slide right on.
    👍🍻

I could have heated it but figured it wasn’t that tight of a fit with splines. Thanks for watching!

Nice to see it still has the Bows in the end, usually they are missing or broken.😎

I’ve seen them with one broken but never both. Thanks for watching!

@@KensSmallEngineRepair Seems pretty common for both to be missing over here. Trouble s with the solid drive shaft models if they shear there's no way of getting the broken bits out, so it's new shaft.

This looks like a straight forward repair if you have done it before. The tricky bit is knowing you can knock off and refit the bushing. Great video, thanks

They sell the bushing but normally you can re-use them. Thanks for watching Joseph!

if you measure from the other end of the bushing, then you can just measure from the top of the vice to the other end when tapping that back on.

Nice one ken would a couple of washes inside work to stop the plastic wearing out.

I think lack of grease caused excessive friction and heating resulting in the bushing melting its way through the tube wall face.

It is much easier if you use a block of wood on the floor and take the locator clips out

Okay then . Is there a plastic retainer on the string head lower section? Went to put blower on and string head shaft came with it ! So the attachment is broken! 🤷🏼‍♂️
