    I was a landscaper through college. As a teaching point, the company owner was more than happy to explain techniques as time permitted. It is very clear why the Egyptians built things that clearly stood the test of enormous time.

    I love the expession or lack thereof, on Yul's face, when he's putting weights on the scale. And when Charlton drops the brick on the scale to both make their points. In a way, i find it a little comical, but i ❤love❤ that scene! 2 brother's debating, trying to get their points across. I always get a giggle out of it.😊

    As Seti listed off the accusations to Moses and Moses confessed, Ramses dropped a weight on the scales like a 'Strike one, strike two, strike three'. But Moses dropped a brick on the other end and hit it out of the ballpark.

      Special effects the old-fashioned way. No CGI, but still looking so grand. They spent big bucks on this epic. And Heston and Brynner looking so macho. With Vincent Price and Leo Genn(?) as Sethi. British actor, of course....

    Looks like some great matte paintings as backgrounds in this. Great practical sets and props too. I mean, the scale is fantastic for what's really just a few guys talking.

      The detailed attention DeMille gave to their construction system was great too. It gives the audience a real feeling of the Egyptians' genius while also introducing us to Moses' competence, intelligence and decisive character.

    I’ve seen this film dozens of times and always thought that the pylons that Moses was talking about were those vertical black objects in front of one of the stone lions of Pharaoh. Now I realize that those “pylons” are actually the device that Moses was using when the huge pylon was being raised.

    My parents and I used this film to give my nephews some much needed education around The Ten Commandments. They actually rather enjoyed the film in itself and watched it a couple of times! I love the bit when Moses parts the sea so that the Israelites can cross in safety. But there are many more wonderful things in the movie though i don't agree with the movie's presentation of. Nefertari. Look up Abu Simbel and you will see why.

    What’s interesting is how the scenes are shot in a way that you don’t see the drastic differences in height between these men. Yul Brynner was about 5’7” or 5’8”. Charlton Heston was 6’3 and Vincent Price was 6’4”.

    Little known fact: This entire "city" was actually built in New Jersey, back in '38, BEFORE the War. Near Hoboken, about a stone's throw from West Caldwell. It's original name was lost to time, but it is now known as North Hell. You're welcome. 😮😅

    God's original plan for Moses was for him to become Pharaoh, reveal himself to Moses and then Moses will set the Hebrew slaves free since his word as Pharaoh is absolute. That is a tale worth telling other than the usual story of Moses.

      Agreed. I think Moses had Sethi when he showed the finished city. His other questions about building an army and the slaves' loyalty were just rhetorical. I think Sethi deep down knew Moses was innocent; he just wanted to see for himself.

    It was so hard to please the Pharoah. After Moses showed him many times his loyalty. Pharoah still wasn't satisfied. But...until the statue of his own image.then he was pleased.

    Despite the incredibly blatant cinematic "whitewashing" of a pre-Ptolemaic civilization of the African continent, I still manage to enjoy Heston and Brynner's portrayals of Moses and Ramses.
