When I stayed in Madrid, I was amazed at the simplicity of the salads there. No cheese necessary. No rich dressings. Oil and vinegar is all you need with a touch of sea salt. Simplicity doesn't mean flavorless. Thank you for this video!
This is the salad my host mom made for me when I studied abroad in Madrid! I was SO EXCITED to see you post this recipe. I can't wait to make this at home (in the US) to bring back all the wonderful memories of my time in Spain. Thanks so much for sharing this!
I have lost weight eating this salad for much lunches. I just use about a teaspoon of oil, and water packed tuna. One serving is under 250 calories. So delicious.
Dont obsess over calories. Oil has a lot of calories, but by eating healthy fat you are educating your body to use the fat. So it will use the stored fat. You won't get fat if you don't overeat carbs (sugar). And it's very difficult to overeat fats since if you eat fat you are very easily satieted. One of the best foods you can eat is a greasy hamburger. Very nutritious (more if you accompany it by an egg and some onion) and satiating. By the way, eggs are also very good for you. You can eat over 20 eggs per week. It's a the most nutrituius food that you can eat it just by itself.
@@MrZxcvbnm22 Hi. I just have to say this...I understand what you're saying about healthy fats, and to limit sugar. No doubt about it that's great advice. But..."One of the best foods you can eat is a greasy hamburger. Very nutritious..." ummmm...no. Just no. Greasy hamburgers are neither nutritious or good for you in any way I can think of. There are lots of ways to feel satiated, and you're very right about healthy fats, but in my opinion, a greasy hamburger's detriment to one's health far outweighs any benifit.
@@singingheartjewelry I'm just talking about the meat, nt the whole hamburger (no bread, no sweet sauces). Just the meat accompanied with onions. There's few foods that are more nutrituinal than a hamburger. tons of mienrals, tons of protein, tons of vitamins, tons of fat. Just cook it well, don't burn it and don't eat it raw. I know people link hamburguers with obesity, but it's a misconception. And I say hamburguer is healthier than a steak because it has more fat. Super lean meats aren't the best for you...
@@MrZxcvbnm22 thank you for replying. I'm glad to hear you didn't mean the bun, etc.! I'm still not convinced that a burger is nutritional, but I'm no expert. Just my personal opinion, but then again, I'm a pescatarian who verges on being vegan. :)
Que recuerdos me trae esta ensalada que como buena madrileña mi madre siempre la preparaba para San Isidro y a mi se me había olvidado después de tantos años fuera de España,y mira por donde la veo por esta ventanita Un abrazo desde estas tierras lejanas
I appreciate how you show proper knife skills at a speed that teaches technique. Also, I have an iodine allergy, so I substitute other meats in seafood recipes. I'm going to try chicken with this. The vinaigrette looks amazing.
When I was in high school during summer break, my mother and I would meet my dad several times a week for lunch and our favorite things to get were their big salads. This one was my favorite (though I was partial to a Catalina style red French dressing with it occasionally), but sometimes I’d go for this with chicken and some cheese which was my mom’s favorite. My dad liked his more like a chef’s salad with ham, turkey and cheese. So I know for sure it’s good any of those ways. And this dressing is wonderful with tuna OR chicken!
Hey Albert, just wanted to say a huge thank you for all of your videos so far. I've lost weight from eating so healthily and retaining all the muscle and strength I've built up recently. I've been dieting using your recipes for the last three weeks and the results are tremendous. Proud to be a patron
What a beautiful presentation. I will celebrate San Isidro Day with this wonderful salad. Glad to hear you throw in some of the history and tradition in your dish recipe videos. I am American with a Spanish background. God bless you! 🙏
Wow, I've been searching for this salad at restaurants since my 1st got a small version gratis when I ordered the Menu del Dia, when I arrived in Spain 9 months ago. I was just going to try to recreate it with lettuce, tomato, olives and tuna, using the oil from the tuna as the dressing. I forgot about it having egg. Now I have the recipe. Thanks so much.
Another easy dish to prepare and will not mess with my condition. I made the tomatoes and potatoes and boy they are delicious. I didn't eat as much as I wanted to they are so good. Thank you
Albert: Delicious! I always have these very ingredients on hand - including *sherry wine vinegar* - since watching your videos. I also really like (the part) that I can use _DRIED_ parsley.😌 A WILL-make, and it's on for today. Thanks again! (Fan from San Francisco, California.) *!!~
I discovered freeze dried parsley at Safeway in the cold case (near the herbs) and it was a game changer! Not quite as potent as the fresh but still has beautiful vibrant green color and bigger leaves
@@mamat1213 Yes, all the herbs that you can buy that way are wonderful. After some time, they will dry out but then you can simply use them as you would if you’d bought it dried, but it still tastes fresher.
I was thinking this salad an entree before the main dish is served but this Ensalada de San Isidro IS THE MAIN DISH!!! Thanks for sharing buddy, 👍and will be trying this Ensalada here in central Mexico! 👋🤤
Italians make a similar salad with tuna - use garlic or onion - served with crunchy Italian bread - dine alfresco - when it’s too hit to eat! Perfecto! Italians and Spaniards - SYMPATICO 🙂👍🏻😉
I love this simple salad, a small number of humble ingredients to create something that is both spectacular and comforting. Sometimes I like to add a few good anchovy fillets. Delicioso! I have been following your recipes for a while and have prepared many of them. Tomorrow I'm doing your garlic and bread soup. Keep them coming.
Tip for you: If you have two plastic lids, put one on counter with rim facing up. Add cherry tomatoes. Place second lid with the rim facing down on top of tomatoes. Hold gently and slice between the two lids. y listo.
Oh my gosh, I have been cutting Romain the hard way for 20 years. I am definitely going to try your way, I rinse and let it sit in a colander in the sink and toss it every now and then as I walk by. It's usually dry in no time at all. I wish I had more cabinet space for helpful gadgets but my kitchen is small. Another great video, I have several cans of tuna I am out of ideas for, Thank You, and have a blessed day!
Add some boiled new potatoes and it’s a niceoise. Tip for a family meal, I arrange all the ingredients separately on a large serving plate and we help ourselves…adding vinaigrette to our own plate. This way if there are leftovers, they don’t go soggy and can be repurposed for different meals or sandwiches the following day.
i have been doing my hard-boiled eggs like that pass few years but the way you drained the tuna i have never thought of doing that way but it makes perfect sense. i have always pressed the lid onto the tuna can, i don't know why i have always done it that way or if it is the best way except for less dishes to wash. i have never seen a popped off lid on a tuna can here in the US, all of the cans has to be open with a can opener

Very similar to a French Salade Nicoise. It would taste different because no anchovies and the green olives but not very different. I would use fresh tuna grilled gently on the bbq then left overnight with olive oil. Then the tuna broken up as this recipe. Ideally some boiled new potatoes as well
