I leave the boat mostly assembled. At the boat ramp, I install the white storage tray, install the oars, attach the tackle bags, attach the trolling motor, attach the fishfinder, and hook up the steering bungee cords.
Neil Dettwiler: I asked you a few questions last year and you were happy to respond. I understand if you are busy but I want to use your steering method and a few close up photos or video of the mechanical connections of the bungies to both the seat and motor would help me to not have re-invent what you have already done so well. A shot of the mounting brace for the PWM would also be helpful. Thank You for all the cool fishing videos too. I also have the C2 30 Motor.
I recorded a couple of videos, but the microphone failed after a few minutes of video. I'll go ahead and upload them, but won't make them public. Will share the links when they are ready.
@@ndettwiler Hi Neil, So nice of you.! Thanks for doing this especially so quick. Today I designed a 3D part that will clamp to the shaft and the 4 inch eye bolts will bolt to. I will be looking at your video links in the morning.
@@ndettwiler Do you think the endura 30 is powerful enough? In the wind or would you consider maybe going to a 40#thrust? I am trying to figure which one for my 9' pontoon
@@herbburris5310 It is powerful enough for me. Another benefit is the low power draw, which allows me to use a smaller, lighter battery. I wouldn't even consider getting a larger trolling motor. My max speed, without wind assist, is 2.92mph according to the GPS on my fish finder.
Neil: I have a Roanoke Pontoon coming and I would like to DIY a light weight trolling motor for it even though no motor mount comes with it. Do you think or know when you register a boat if they will look to see if it is rated for a trolling motor? Also: do you still like the battery you have? Thanks!
When I registered mine, the state of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks did not really ask a lot of questions like that, my *prediction* is that you'll be able to register the CA Roanoke as a powered watercraft. And yes, I really really like my VMAX AGM battery - it is smaller and lighter than most deep cycle marine batteries, and it has never let me down. This battery came with the trolling motor when I bought it on Craigslist; I assumed I would need to replace the battery, but I bought a nice Schumaker charger, charged it up, and tried it out, and it is perfect for my needs.
@@TheWindGinProject no, I don't own a gauge... I pump until I feel some resistance through the pump plunger's handle, then I check the bladder by pressing down on it with my thumb. I keep filling and checking with a thumb press until it barely has any give.
It's in that red and black crate behind my chair. I try to load it in the center of the crate, towards my chair, in an effort to keep the weight centered. The battery is a VMAX CT1000 12 volt AGM battery. It's marketed for mobile audio applications, but works fine for the trolling motor, though its capacity is only 40 amp hours. It weighs approximately 25 pounds.
I suspect the fish tailing is because bungies stretch under the pressure of the thrust of the motor. I will use paracord on mine.
Do you have a picture of the rudder you attached to your trolling motor?

Right on, I'm finding a way to car top my ascend 128t kayak on my sedan. Where there's a will there's a way. Right?
How long of a shaft on your minn kota? Also what type of seat on your boat looks to sit high up.
30" shaft version of the Minn Kota Endura C2 30lb thrust trolling motor. And I have added a 7" pedestal and swivel to my seat.

What kind of foot rests are those? I like them
The foot rests are the standard black steel tubes that nearly every inflatable pontoon includes. This boat is an Outcast Fish Cat Streamer XL-IR.
What size are the pipe clamps for the motor steering?

Could please provide details of your PWM speed control system? Thank you.

If you drop your pets in the water it will track straight.
Nor_Cal_Bass LOL... Typo?
Neil Dettwiler if you hang your paddles in the Water behind you they will act as stabilizers
Ya 350 lb guy can forget about it lol.
I don't know how I got here
