For my lake fishing where strong winds are not frequent I use a plastic milk bottle for an anchor. When I don't need to anchor or am transporting the boat I just pour the water out. No use on rivers obviuosly where often I use two regular anchors to hold my Outcast steady in wide, moving pools or is holding near the top of a riffle or upstream of white water etc. BTW When un-anchoring a dual anchoring set up take into account which way the boat will swing when pull up the first anchor. I once, stupidly, found myself hanging by the remaing anchor bouncing up down amidst in a fast channel, great spays of water spewing up between the pontoons soaking and choking me. Suffice to say by the time that situation was resolved I too wet and cold to continue fishing. Changes are most folks are too smart to make such a silly mistake but if you know anyone like me, give them a "heads up,neh". Tight lines.
A huge thank you for posting this! I just got my first pontoon boat. I’m a very experienced fly fisher, with the opposite level of experience in a boat These are fantastic tips, particularly the anchor cleat I searched lots of videos and this was by far the most helpful Thanks!!
@@OregonUnpaved Thanks for the quick response! I live in CO and fish here and WYO and am very excited to take my boat out There is a lot to learn! Could you please tell me the brand of the anchor cleat? I am looking on Amazon and can’t find it. I’ve already order the other items you recommended Much appreciated!
I have that same one lol that's funny i just searched "how to make a platfrom for one person pontoon" and your video came up so now I'm about to upgrade mine
Thanks for the tip on the side rod holders...previous owner left six in the garage....had to bandsaw them down to two slots each, buy hey...really like the result.
I fill the plastic milk bottle "anchor" with water for a simple anchor. When finished empty bottle. One less thing to pack up bank to truck. Caution OK for a light river flow or lake but for fast water still need the pyramid shaped cement anchor. Love your clip/rod holder system.
The life of a fly fisherman they get you to the spots! I’m sure there are more ideas out there but these are cheap and don’t break the bank :) thanks for the sub!
If you have a life jacket on you can float at midnight solo anywhere the hell you want lol. Your safety intro sounds like someone trying to explain that guns not loaded in a gun video lol 😂
I am buying a used outcast tommarow. After 2 years of kicking around buying a pontoon for winter steelhead on the local and coastal rivers. Great rod holder tips! I can't wait to jump on rivers with limited bank acsess. Do you try and side drift out of your pontoon or bobber dog? I plan on mostly hole hoping and just bank fish or anchor. But curious about drifting
Hi I am looking for your help. I have a Bucks bags boat and broke the seat. There are two pins, I’m the sides of the seat. One of them fell out while fishing. I am not mechanical and do not know how to repair it
15lb anchor is way overdone. A 5 would be plenty. The rod holder idea is perfect!!!! I just bought a Colorado! I live on the rogue, if you’d like to go get some springers. Let me know.
I hope you did really well in this video. I had a pontoon and I fish by myself all the time thanks for the couple pointers. And #StayHookdMyFriend #HOOKD

I just got a used one and on the back behind the seat the netting that makes that a shelf to put stuff on like where you have tour pump in your video sitting is gone do you know where I could get new netting that fits that spot?
TU! I'm wondering ...are your oars attachment to the PCV original or did you replace? I can't seem to find any pontoon like it. It appears the newer models don't have it. I like what you have ... it's better because you can adjust it. I appreciate some help where you got it?
I have a pontoon as well and felt like a 10# anchor was a PAIN to pull out. Your system looks better with the pulley how big or small would you recommend on a anchor? Did you make any adjustments to your anchor pulley system. Thanks
Brad Hunkins no the anchor was pretty much stock and with a 15# it is fairly easy to hold. A better anchor rope made it way easier to pull though that’s for sure!
I like both your rod holder ideas and a proper cleat for the anchor line s essential. One thing, if you leave that carabiner clip on your anchor you WILL lose your anchor. I used to run one on my drift boat anchor, after losing the second anchor I tossed the clip, no more problems. I understand your reason but that clip will leave you anchor-less. Also, a roll of duct tape can be a very useful to make a splint for a broken oar, don’t ask me how I Know!
I actually was able to screw it to the frame and epoxy on the screws and under the cleat. Didn’t have to go throw all the way or add washers. It’s been as solid as a rock.
I certainly cannot recommend any fishcat products....Boat was fine. When I purchased it I was told replacement parts were readily available. When one of the outer skins was damaged and I called about replacement. Cost to replace was around $600.00. Check replacement prices and warranty before buying any of theses pontoons. When they work they are great.
Mike Witmer yea that’s the bummer part about pontoons! Almost cheaper to replace entire boat than parts. I looked into better inner tubes for each side and that alone was 100$ each! But there are a lot of pluses to them too which makes it nice to have around.
Nice safety messages with your suggestions. Solid work

I would say just start on something not super technical. They handle super easy, but still good to get a feel for it.

lose the oars and go electric unless you have Popeye arms .@@Thelifeofaflyfisherman

Carabiner that LOCKS.
That U-bolt rubbing on the zipper can damage it.

Great vid! Do you recommend that particular boat? I found a used one online. What was the retail if you don’t mind me asking?
Ryan DeLuca thanks! I also got mine used. Believe they were in the 500$ range back when sold at sportmans.
Oregon Unpaved Awesome sounds good. Also I believe you and I drift the same stretch of river. 😉
Ryan DeLuca nice you Been fishing lately?
Oregon Unpaved Not in about a month on the west side, but been getting over to central OR quite a bit for trout lately!
How did you secure the anchor cleat to the frame? Did you have to drill all the way through the round frame to attach the washers?
I actually was able to screw it to the frame and epoxy on the screws and under the cleat. Didn’t have to go throw all the way or add washers. It’s been as solid as a rock.
What's better a colorado xt, or the fish cats??? Looking to get one soon! Thanks man!
Fish cats for a river for the pontoon durability. XT would be just fine for lakes or mild rivers.
I like this Jacob. You should come see mine and give me some suggestions
What oars are those?
What river ate you floating?

I do not believe that is a Bucksbag. I believe Outcast made boats for Sportsmen’s Warehouse.
It is. Outcast also has made boats for sportsmen’s, which were both green and blue. But this one is an older bucksbags.
