This honestly just looks like a man that was supporting his sons hobby and he’s spent money buying cards online just to find out that they’re fake. I have fallen victim to buying fake cards, even one from a pawnshop where the owner didn’t know much about Pokémon. It was such a hassle, trying to get those cards returned because he wanted to know how I knew they were fake
for me it seems like he probably bought one of those realistic looking booster boxes on tiktok shop thinking they were real and decided to head on up to a card show.
while yes, he could be "socially awkward" and was just ready to pull out the "normal human interaction handbook" and started to nod when asked if he knew something, but once realizing what he said switched to shaking. this is usually not the case, especially when grouped with the rest of the body language, notably no eye-contact, thumbing through packs while somewhat listening, etc. i noticed another seller commented about their own experience with these guys, and i personally (im just a dude, not a detective) would say that they knew what they were doing. the unfortunate part about anything in life is that there will always be people like this, especially when money is involved. the best thing you can do is always use resources available to you, whether it be trusted peers or even (TRUSTED) internet sources. as unlikely as it is to go an entire career without falling victim to the likes of these people, its always good to learn from others' (and ofc your own) mistakes and always work towards making yourself and your merchandise as safe as humanly possible. im sorry to you and anyone else who has encountered people like this, i truly hope you know the large majority of the community are very kind and super caring. dont let one bad apple convince you the entire orchard is bad :)
I feel like the dad and kid bought these from someone else and had no idea they were fake. But today, you never know. Great video, going to check your other content out too
Good on you for giving benefit of the doubt. My son collects Pokémon cards. And I can guarantee you. We both have no idea what a fake one looks like. All that being said, you're probably right, they probably knew
The dad clearly looks like the kind of one that buys his kids pokemon card packs from a boot sale for a dollar, gets angry the kid is whining they are fake and decides to do it himself. The lad clearly knows they're fake and it's simply not going to work before even going to the desk.
I recently read a book on this. Can’t recall the title, but yeah, body language is 100% worthless. We fool ourselves into thinking we know something because the alternative sucks. May have been Talking to Strangers by Malcom Gladwell.
In my localized experience, there are two primary reactions to genuinely learning a card in one's collection is fake. Either "(Expletive)... Really?" followed by vocalizations of disappointment visible embarrassment/frustration, followed by profuse millennial apologies" or "(Expletive) no, no no no... No please no. Are you sure? Ohh (expletive) reallyyyyy? C'mon mannnnn (Expletive) ...God...(Expletive)....(Expletive) I'm gonna kill (Person who gave them card) followed by visible anger/indignation, a slamming of the binder shut, and a storming out the door. (A little performative, sometimes. the scammers do this too.) with a third being "Well I don't know anything about the Yugli-ohs and Pokimans, my grandson (angry quote fingers) "yeeted" his iPad through my television after I turned off his SkibiTy Toilet so he's paying for a new set." For my fellow body language and micro expression dunning-kreugerists, slow the footage down as slow as it can go at 1:15 and just watch that cascade of "oh (expletive)" just rain down his face.
You're giving them way too much grace. As someone who is not into Pokemon, but plays other TCGs, even I can tell when a Pokemon card is fake. I think most people who collect any kind of trading cards can just pick one of those cards up and know that no billion dollar corporation would produce something so cheap feeling and looking. The cardstock material alone is something you'd never see used by a real trading card manufacturer.
I tried selling fake Pokemon cards to a dealer one time, unknowingly, of course. My son and I were into buying and collecting Pokemon cards, and he came home one day and had a few rainbow rares he said he traded for some other things. I thought it was strange, because they looked expensive. Even though we had a few cards, I had no idea what Pokemon cards were worth. I had seen a fake Pokemon card before, but it was easy to tell. It was just a sticker over a cheap card. These, seemed legit, at least to my untrained eyes. Long story short, took them to a dealer, and he gave me a dirty look, and asked if that was all I had. I explained that I had other cards, but these were the only ones I thought might be worth something. He then told me they were all fake. I was shocked and embarrassed. I apologized many times, and explained how I got the cards. I explained that I didn't know they made convincing fakes like this. He then showed me the real cards of the fakes ones I had, and they were completely different. The biggest difference, was the texture. Mine, were rainbow, and not textured. Holding the real and fakes ones next to each other, you could easily tell the difference. Lesson learned.
His initial reaction to being told the Gengar was fake tells me he knew. He didn’t challenge it and he didn’t act surprised, which isn’t normal behaviour in this type of situation.
This scares me because i have bought cards off ebay and i don't really know what's fake or not. But I'm not gonna go rip cards to find out I'm wrong, lol
You can always look up pictures of real cards. The holo patterns are such good indicators. Fake cards do not have textures. They just shine most of the time. If you buy enough packs and open some real cards you will be able to tell apart the real and fake ones. I like to buy singles, but definitely go for places like cardmarket or some other places where you can buy them with a trustee system. Hope this helps :D
Naaaaaah, father and son 100% know they have a binder of fakes. Dad is all like “ damn son, we got caught out again, this way boy, onto the next vendor”
If you look closely you can actually see the black layer on the side of genuine pokemon cards (although it's entirely possible for this to be faked too).
should ask more questions such as where did they get the cards from to get more gauge of how they answer - for benefit of doubt, could think this way- the kid got scammed from trades at school (often) and the father didnt know too much of hobby and then finding out while maintaining compsure and pride. Then again I wasnt there so maybe you saw more uncomfortable flags.
Not what happened at all his kid is there so he can try to get free cards from vendors then take it from his kid it’s very common for scumbags like this
The way he acts BEFORE you found out the last one was a fake.. kinda sells him out, he doesnt seem until there really worried about not being able to sell a card. Probably thought "this two young vendors will probably fall".. im not worried about him not ripping it off in front of you, im worried about other people that might fall for it. I would have probably asked nicely, to explain why you think its fake, right at the start.. I have worked a lot with all kind of people from my city, and I can sadly say that most people lie. And with things that could make them earn a easy money a lot more lies will come..
He absolutely tried to sell that fake Draginite until somebody bit. Same with the fake Gengar. One person’s intuition going off, sure coincidence maybe. But both of you getting spidey sense from that interaction, you should watch out! It’s because years of evolution have honed your ability to sense danger/ predator which translates into “bad vibe feelings” from certain situations, and that’s why. Your intuition is able to sense things that you may not otherwise notice, specifically underhanded dealings like this. And if you listen, especially when BOTH of you feel the same bad vibes way about that person, and in this case, for both of you, your intuition is telling you to beware for a reason. If that dude was truly outraged and had no idea it was fake, he would have ripped that card. We all know it.
I think as a rule the vast majority of amateur card traders only have a rough idea about how to spot a fake in their collection and you pointing them out should be perceived as helping them to learn, any behavior after your help would better gauge their intent and/or knowledge about it.
The biggest thing especially with Full Arts/Illustration Rares is fakes cannot have the unique texturing the cards have. That’s one of the first things I look for because I got handed a fake Solgaleo & Lunala GX Rainbow Rare from a kid and the first thing I looked for was texturing.
Unless you were going to buy the real card once ripped, nobody in their right mind would rip the card they believe its real just because one seller tells them its fake. That being said, the whole thing was suspicious, but not the fact they didnt rip it.
That’s wild. Sucks cuz any type of community needs to respect eachother. Especially when it comes to stuff like card games cuz it’s physical stuff to buy, sell, collect and play. People shouldn’t be rude, toxic, cheating, or stealing.
@ appreciate it, I jumped into it, it seems most people are honest in this space so I can’t wait to grow our collection. He just pulled Earthen Vessel from shrouded fable so he was really hype.
He wouldn't have told him to rip it if he wasn't 100% certain it was fake. As soon as he pulled it out of the sleeve even I could tell it was 100% fake with that holo pattern.
Also, the longer you entertain the deal the more difficult it can be to disengage. Be as quick as you can do not be a hero. A lot of Pokemon cards use a different to thinner card stock, especially the promo and vintage cards so be careful.
neither the kid or the dad were questioning the fake gengar and they followed up the same with the dragonite, looking neither surprised or frustrated at how they have a fake card. I would've asked if they remembered where they got these cards and after the first fake card I saw I would've never entertained anything else they had.
Everybody reacts differently 😂 It doesn't matter where they bought them from... If they don't know they are fake they don't know... It's funny because to me I see it differently from you all wanting to accuse the mand and point blame. For all you know this kid and his dad could have bought these at a yard sale and are bringing them to specifically get the verified or authenticated. Why does he have to be a scammer just because this one guy says it's fake? Is he not allowed to get a second or third opinion? Or return it for a refund instead of ripping it and wasting money

Looks to me like a person who got scammed into buying a fake and doesn’t feel bad about trying to get their money back by scamming someone else into buying that fake
Definitely, judging by their reaction. If that was me, I would of been way more bummed if someone told me a card I have is fake and probably call out the person who sold it to me.
This just shows you are willing to call an innocent person a thief based off of a kids video and opinion. Did he scan it in a machine? No, he looked at it with glasses 🤓 You think this dude can see a fake 😂😂😂😂😂
The card world in general is chock full of ignorance and deception. A bad combination. So many fake cards and not enough knowledge about it or control of it.
He looks like he knows they’re fake. I’d be so surprised and pissed if I had a fake. Like who traded that to me? Who scammed me? Where did I buy it? For real you think it’s fake? Not this guy. He was too casual.
The "dad" is 100% a total scammer. If someone brings you a binder full of cards and every single expensive card they're trying to pawn off on you is fake, you know they're just using the child as a front to lower your guard. If I'd brought these cards and found out they were fake, I wouldn't necessarily have ripped the cards, but they definitely would've gotten the card backing of shame treatment (placed back in the binder with the back side facing up)
Kids are bad liars. You see that he gets very nervous after he looks closer to the dragonite. It feels like they knew (maybe some other seller at the day already told them), they got scammed and now they want to reduce their costs.
Maybe his reaction on the first card was because hes proud of his and his sons collection and did not knew there where fake cards in it, so he played it off because hes a grown adult and thought its a cool collection, so maybe his ego was scratched that he got ripped of by someone in the past? Not everyone is a scammer.
Yeah but he didn't seemed surprised. If I would bought a 100$ card and an expert tells me it's fake, i would ask him more questions. But he seems like "oh ok, I just go away and try to sell it to someone else".
Or staying calm and moving on to the next guy and the next guy immediately to see everyone else opinion, sorry that seems wrong to you.. but would you not get more than one opinion? Or would you trust a RUclipsr that needs content, looks younger than your son, and also wears glasses 🤓 That vendor could have dirty glasses and a vision problem 😂
Well, he was presented with a comparison to emphasize why it's a fake. I guess there's people such as yourself who'd be calm about getting ripped off for $140
Dude knows its fake and trying to scam? Not going to rip it. Dude doesnt know its fake? You tell him to rip it to find out... Why dafuq would he rip it based off some random seller telling him to destroy a card? Either way.. noone is going to rip a card and it wouldnt seem weird to me because they dont. You just have to size em up and go with your gut on if he was knowingly trying to scam.
i wouldnt rip a card just because 1 random vendor to me it was fake. I would do my due diligence before ripping a potentially $140 card. there isn't any benefit for him to rip it on the spot. I think its crazy for you to expect him to do that in the first place. the kid can keep it in his PC for memories as well
The kid was giving away the fact something was up before they ever spoke to you. The dads nearly non-reaction to finding out a card was fake was more than enough. People who can't tell if a card is fake either don't care or don't want to know. When the information is free at any store or online 24/7 you were dealing with thieves.
also if he didn't know the card was fake he wouldn't be as into his phone as he was. He'd be more engaged in the moment. Look at his rotten kid's face, just watching it go down hoping the dealer falls for it
i hope u read this: obv u guys can tell real vs fake... but shyt happens... i would recommend having a whatsapp group between vendors at a show where when someone innocent or scummy come to you with fakes, you msg and alert the group, that way everyone gets a headsup...
That exact duo tried to sell me the dragonite as well, even offering me 50% market price on the entire binder lol

I have fallen victim to buying fake cards, even one from a pawnshop where the owner didn’t know much about Pokémon. It was such a hassle, trying to get those cards returned because he wanted to know how I knew they were fake
You’re lucky you got a refund if you did. that’s on you
The problem is his reaction when told the cards were fake... and then he didn't seem to care at all because he already knew.
@@aoh4905 100%
you're being WAY to lenient
@@aoh4905the kids reaction was the tell. He knew it was fake too. You can see the kid admit defeat by his nods
No benefit of the doubt was given ! He knew that you knew it was fake,
for me it seems like he probably bought one of those realistic looking booster boxes on tiktok shop thinking they were real and decided to head on up to a card show.
while yes, he could be "socially awkward" and was just ready to pull out the "normal human interaction handbook" and started to nod when asked if he knew something, but once realizing what he said switched to shaking. this is usually not the case, especially when grouped with the rest of the body language, notably no eye-contact, thumbing through packs while somewhat listening, etc. i noticed another seller commented about their own experience with these guys, and i personally (im just a dude, not a detective) would say that they knew what they were doing. the unfortunate part about anything in life is that there will always be people like this, especially when money is involved. the best thing you can do is always use resources available to you, whether it be trusted peers or even (TRUSTED) internet sources. as unlikely as it is to go an entire career without falling victim to the likes of these people, its always good to learn from others' (and ofc your own) mistakes and always work towards making yourself and your merchandise as safe as humanly possible. im sorry to you and anyone else who has encountered people like this, i truly hope you know the large majority of the community are very kind and super caring. dont let one bad apple convince you the entire orchard is bad :)
Hope these scumbags get banned from any event, just testing their luck with other collectors too
True father/ son bonding moment right there
I feel like the dad and kid bought these from someone else and had no idea they were fake.
Or the mom bought them so they both think they are real
I don’t think they knew I don’t know what is real or fake makes me think that I’ve bought some fake ones without knowing 😢
They 100% did and now they’re trying to move them bc they know they’re fake
Even body language experts will tell you, you can't make definitive conclusions without knowing the person's baseline. It could of been surprise
I recently read a book on this. Can’t recall the title, but yeah, body language is 100% worthless. We fool ourselves into thinking we know something because the alternative sucks.
May have been Talking to Strangers by Malcom Gladwell.
*could have
In my localized experience, there are two primary reactions to genuinely learning a card in one's collection is fake.
Either "(Expletive)... Really?" followed by vocalizations of disappointment visible embarrassment/frustration, followed by profuse millennial apologies"
or
"(Expletive) no, no no no... (A little performative, sometimes. the scammers do this too.)
with a third being
"Well I don't know anything about the Yugli-ohs and Pokimans, my grandson (angry quote fingers) "yeeted" his iPad through my television after I turned off his SkibiTy Toilet so he's paying for a new set."
For my fellow body language and micro expression dunning-kreugerists, slow the footage down as slow as it can go at 1:15 and just watch that cascade of "oh (expletive)" just rain down his face.
Looks like guy was just unsure. And then found out he over paid.
I can’t blame a guy for not ripping a $150 card that one vendor said was fake.
He wouldn’t be the first or the last vendor to tell them that- those that have been in the game for any amount of time know what to look for.
A good way I test is just shine your phones flashlight behind it and if the light goes through it's fake
You shouldn't buy cards. Just buy the official Pokemon packs and open them yourself. So you can be 100 % sure they are not fake cards.
@@MaxNeumann-y6d if the pull rates were better, lol.
I honestly think that guy is clueless and knows nothing about trading cards. Can’t blame him for not ripping a card based off of your word.
If you look closely you can actually see the black layer on the side of genuine pokemon cards (although it's entirely possible for this to be faked too).
So if the guy ripped the $150 car and it was good would you pay him that money in cash for a ripped card?
should ask more questions such as where did they get the cards from to get more gauge of how they answer - for benefit of doubt, could think this way- the kid got scammed from trades at school (often) and the father didnt know too much of hobby and then finding out while maintaining compsure and pride. Then again I wasnt there so maybe you saw more uncomfortable flags.
Not what happened at all his kid is there so he can try to get free cards from vendors then take it from his kid it’s very common for scumbags like this
I agree he didn't do anything wrong.
@@mar4626 the only shady one is you calling him a scumbag with no proof! 😂
as a card shop owner that deals with this daily. in my opinion they knew what they were doing.
Its an irrational fear of mine trying to pay for something with a fake bill I got from the ATM. That money feels unnatural.
I don't need to do a rip test, the black of the card inbetween the front and back can be visible just by looking at the sides.
Imagine if the pokemon company was smart like konami by adding a seal to the bottom of the card so you know its legit.
😂😂😂 Imagine he rips it and then it turns out to be real hahahaha
The biggest thing especially with Full Arts/Illustration Rares is fakes cannot have the unique texturing the cards have. That’s one of the first things I look for because I got handed a fake Solgaleo & Lunala GX Rainbow Rare from a kid and the first thing I looked for was texturing.
Unless you were going to buy the real card once ripped, nobody in their right mind would rip the card they believe its real just because one seller tells them its fake.
That being said, the whole thing was suspicious, but not the fact they didnt rip it.
Craziest part about this is that he’s got a kid with him. So sad. Terrible father.
I feel so bad for the son
He didn't know 😂
He honestly looks like hes just new to the hobby... and unfortunately bought some fake cards..
That’s wild. Sucks cuz any type of community needs to respect eachother. Especially when it comes to stuff like card games cuz it’s physical stuff to buy, sell, collect and play. People shouldn’t be rude, toxic, cheating, or stealing.
Give the corrections, but the days of the benefit are over.
This scares me getting into collecting with my sons, I’m 42 with 3 kids who love Pokémon and now I don’t want to invest in these cards.
😂 what? Don’t buy off the internet buy in person and look at real graded cards before buying anything.
so you play for fun or money/investment?
it's not that hard to spot a fake card if you learn what to look for, it'll be fine
@ appreciate it, I jumped into it, it seems most people are honest in this space so I can’t wait to grow our collection. He just pulled Earthen Vessel from shrouded fable so he was really hype.
better not do anyhting then because everything is faked haha.
Selling fake cards knowing it's not real
imagine he had ripped the card infront of you and it ended up being real would you have paid him for it??
He wouldn't have told him to rip it if he wasn't 100% certain it was fake. As soon as he pulled it out of the sleeve even I could tell it was 100% fake with that holo pattern.
Also, the longer you entertain the deal the more difficult it can be to disengage. Be as quick as you can do not be a hero. A lot of Pokemon cards use a different to thinner card stock, especially the promo and vintage cards so be careful.
The son and dad were both in on it 100%. Zero reaction, zero cares. Scammers.
He got scammed and his gonna scam someone else untill he gets rid of it.
Should keep example fake cards around for this exact reason.
neither the kid or the dad were questioning the fake gengar and they followed up the same with the dragonite, looking neither surprised or frustrated at how they have a fake card. I would've asked if they remembered where they got these cards and after the first fake card I saw I would've never entertained anything else they had.
Everybody reacts differently 😂
It doesn't matter where they bought them from...
The only way I'd rip a card is if the cash was on the table and if it was legit the buyer pays me
- owns 3 of the only 4 known Blue-Eyes White Dragons in existence
"Sorry bud, yours is fake, you should rip it to see if it has this strip inside"
- become Yugioh Champion.
Looks to me like a person who got scammed into buying a fake and doesn’t feel bad about trying to get their money back by scamming someone else into buying that fake
So, what was the girl doing flipping back and forth in her binder the whole time? 😅
They knew
Definitely, judging by their reaction. If that was me, I would of been way more bummed if someone told me a card I have is fake and probably call out the person who sold it to me.
@antoniog4671 if I didn't know I wouldn't take home
Being a vendor, you should know your stuff. If a vendor does buy it, they need to learn about how to tell what a fake card looks like.
guys defending the scammer. dude had 2 fakes already with a very minimum inspection. imagine if the whole binder got checks out
If he ripped it snd it was REAL, wiuld you pay for the card?
No, he would say "My bad! That's USUALLY how you tell and it really did seem like a fake! Hey at least you know now!" 😂
This just shows thieves come in all shapes and sizes
This just shows you are willing to call an innocent person a thief based off of a kids video and opinion. Did he scan it in a machine? No, he looked at it with glasses 🤓
You think this dude can see a fake 😂😂😂😂😂
*Rips $300 Zard to prove a point*
Now you do it.
I think trying to pass fake cards off as real ones should hold the same criminal charge as using counterfeit money.
If you told me one of my cards was fake, I would want to know how and to teach me. Him not asking anything, he knows for sure.
Father and son duo are in on it, you can tell when you first mention the gengar is fake the kids eye's tense up and he looks a little shook.
how he would rip the card if he thinks its not a fake?
That guy looks like he don't know anything about Pokemon
Good job about just pointing it out saying it was a fake. Just giving the customer a heads up, in case they really didn’t know.
The "dad" is 100% a total scammer. If someone brings you a binder full of cards and every single expensive card they're trying to pawn off on you is fake, you know they're just using the child as a front to lower your guard. If I'd brought these cards and found out they were fake, I wouldn't necessarily have ripped the cards, but they definitely would've gotten the card backing of shame treatment (placed back in the binder with the back side facing up)
The son is part of the scam
Kids are bad liars. You see that he gets very nervous after he looks closer to the dragonite. It feels like they knew (maybe some other seller at the day already told them), they got scammed and now they want to reduce their costs.
Best way to make him rip it would be to say "if you rip it and it IS real I'll buy it at market price"
When you tell them “it’s fake idk if you knew that” you can see the kid slightly nod yes while his dad nodded no
Because the kid knew and the dad don't want accept that he was scammed and he tries to sell it to someone else.
The normal reaction to that news is getting upset with the source. I hope you notified the other vendors to watch out for them.
Or staying calm and moving on to the next guy and the next guy immediately to see everyone else opinion, sorry that seems wrong to you.. but would you not get more than one opinion? Or would you trust a RUclipsr that needs content, looks younger than your son, and also wears glasses 🤓
That vendor could have dirty glasses and a vision problem 😂
Well, he was presented with a comparison to emphasize why it's a fake. I guess there's people such as yourself who'd be calm about getting ripped off for $140
Its scary out there nowdays. Be careful people
They both definitely know they are fake. It's terrible that he include his son in this.
You can also do the flashlight test. Put your phone flashlight on the back side of a card. Light should not shine through.
Too bad there isn't a way you could quickly and quietly warn other vendors about someone walking around with fake cards
How can you tell if its fake
Got some nice stuff from you at the card show! Glad you came out. Sorry about the potential scammers
Glad I could bring something to add to your collection!
they knew hands in pockets the way they reacted guilty
Just because its fake doesnt mean he shoukd rip it. He could just keep it to look at it. Still looks cool. Or use it in a game.
You should generally be shocked that it's fake, especially if you BOUGHT IT. 😂😂😂😂
Why would he rip it if he still thought it’s real?
i wouldnt rip a card just because 1 random vendor to me it was fake.
Look at his rotten kid's face, just watching it go down hoping the dealer falls for it
I doubt they knew. They just probably paid a lot for it and didn't want to lose out. Wanted to pass on their loss to someone else.
i hope u read this:
obv u guys can tell real vs fake... but shyt happens... i would recommend having a whatsapp group between vendors at a show where when someone innocent or scummy come to you with fakes, you msg and alert the group, that way everyone gets a headsup...
Why did i assume the two in the matching shirts are the scammers darn team rocket
Rips card and sees the real material instead then looks at you 😮
