- The Calvin Prison Initiative choir sings Amazing Grace.
Calvin Prison Initiative is training faithful leaders in a prison context.
A partnership between Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary, the Calvin Prison Initiative (CPI) is a unique program that provides a Christian liberal arts education to inmates at Handlon prison in Ionia, MI. This five-year program results in a bachelor of arts degree from Calvin College. CPI brings hope, dignity and the opportunity for real accomplishment.

20 years ago I heard the gospel for the first time in my life. Drug addiction almost killed me. If God did not intervened in my life and opened my heart 20 years ago, I'd be dead. Indeed, I am a depraved & wretched sinner, saved by His amazing grace.

You are misunderstanding the faith. You can and you will go wrong, when following Him. You will do it thousands of time, but by the grace of God, you always will be forgiven.
We all are sinners saved by the blood of Jesus on the Cross.
Every day and each night, I pray for those in captivity, because their destinies were stolen by the Enemy. God can restore them, heal them and give them hope and freedom. Just keep digging in the Word, press in to Him, and rebuke the Devil. He will flee. HE has to. God bless and protect all of you precious souls. You are loved by your king and your brothers and sisters in Christ. Never forget. You are NOT alone!!!
I rejoice in this ministry at Calvin Prison. My prayer is that God will lead, guide and direct the paths of these men as they continue in their lives with the Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen

When I first heard this hymn when I was 20 I could only respond one way. To open my heart to the Savior. I’m nearly 74 and still get touched by the message.
God bless you all, heal any broken hearts and bind up all your wounds. I'm sorry for whatever circumstances caused your imprisonment, but you found Jesus through God's amazing Grace which might not have been possible otherwise. You are redeemed and loved. Many are freer in prison than those unsaved and imprisoned inside on the outside. This was such an inspiration. May God strengthen you and deliver your sorrow from the pain of your past memories. Jesys took our Shane, so we could experience His glory. May Hope, Faith, Love fill your hearts for the remainder of your lives in Jesus's name, Amen.

I have never been to prison and that is because of Gods Amazing Grace!!!! God knows I should have gone but I had a close encounter with Jesus Christ while I was in jail for multiple felonies. I bonded out and 2 years later when I was called to court I had one misdemeanor charge and 500 dollar fine. Ive been serving the Lord ever since. Jesus is coming for His church soon so get saved. Call upon the name of the Lord. Romans 10:9-13, John 3:16, Ephesians 2::8-9 and the gospel is 1 Corinthian 15:1-4. God bless you all.
All of mankind deserves God’s grace. We don’t always know why some people commit crimes and end up in prison, but what we do know is all life has value. Prison for some may be the only place God could slow down a life and force some to need to rely on Him instead of man. If only for a short time in their prison week they get to spend time praising God through song they rob Satan of entering their minds and spirits. I pray that all of you remember everyday you wake up is a day to be thankful. I pray for your continued strength in Jesus Christ our savior. I pray God’s forgiveness for your sins. I pray God’s mercy, grace, and favor for your worship. You are loved and cared for by God. It is through Him that you live, move, and have your being. God bless those free men and women who have taken up their calling to show you God through prison ministry and song. Be blessed in the name of Jesus. Amen.

I would only add that not one of these men is a wretch. As things are, even when they've gotten out, society will never let them forget they are felons. Surely there must be hymns that don't encourage them to think of themselves as wretched.
When people do not just use religion as a excuse to manipulate wardens and jail staff ⚕️ then it's only way to get through one's prison sentence when becoming a born again Christian, God is the only answer

John Newton knew the mercy of God. Forgiven as a slave trader, there is no limit to the love and grace of God that is possible when we recognize we need forgiveness.

Moved to Holy Ghost tears on this. How many of us have been prisoners of our own doing.... Prisoners of lust, greed, addiction etc. even though I've never been In a physical brick and mortar prison I certainly was held captive by own sinful choices!!! Thank you God for your Mercy and Grace Restoration Power to set us free !!!!

I could see a long story on each man's face as the camera panned across - made this very special for me. Tragedy, pain, hope and one man (God bless him) holding back a tear and swallowing hard as he sang. I hope God has graced them all with forgiveness, freedom and peace.
The song went from basic to blossoming. As a musician who has done prison ministries this really touched my heart.
I am so proud of these men singing the most beautiful song, Amazing Grace. This happens to be one of many of my favorite songs. Hopefully they will return to society and continue to seek our Lord Jesus. Jesus died for all of us.
